An imperial mission. A kingdom on the brink. A captain carrying the weight of a name both feared and despised.
Captain Ben Stiger never asked for this assignment—transport a chest of imperial gold and a letter from the emperor across the sea to a volatile foreign kingdom and secure a vital alliance, or at least buy their neutrality. But duty is rarely a matter of choice. With only the enigmatic elven ranger Eli at his side, Stiger sets sail for the Kingdom of Thresh.
What begins as a diplomatic errand soon spirals into something far more deadly and dangerous. The kingdom is a tinderbox of political rivalries, old grudges, and whispered betrayals. Stiger must navigate threats both seen and unseen—all while wrestling with the legacy of a family name stained by rebellion.
The Fires of Thresh continues the acclaimed Tales of the Seventh series with a gripping blend of military action, political intrigue, and richly layered world-building. Marc Alan Edelheit delivers an epic tale of honor, resilience, and sacrifice as Stiger walks the fine line between soldier and statesman—where one wrong move could ignite a war.

Bestselling author Marc Edelheit has traveled the world, from Asia to Europe, at one point crossing the border at Check Point Charlie in Berlin toward the end of the Cold War.
Marc is the ultimate history fan and incorporates much of that passion into his work to bring greater realism to his fans. He is also an avid reader, devouring several books per week, ranging from history to science fiction and fantasy.
I was desperate for a new novel & was waiting for Marc’s new space story coming out this Friday. This book came out of nowhere. But try as could, I could not read it slowly. Maybe, I read it again, lol or another favorite but many of I have already read multiple times.
This one started slowly with the world building but I did enjoyed it. Slow down and savor the descriptions. It was a remarkable island. When the action started it was nonstop.
Highly recommend!! Great characters, as usual. Looking forward to the next story.
Love his switch to his earlier work with no fantasy. I tolerate some fantasy but it’s not really my thing.
I believe I have read all of Marc’s books and they have all been awesome…the kind of books you read in a day, then berate yourself for finishing the story so quickly and then curs the author for not writing more books more quickly. Hope his publishers read these reviews cause I put Marc up there with SM Stirling, Taylor Anderson, JL Bourne, RA Salvatore, And so forth.
Wonderful read. I have been waiting for this installment for awhile.
I read the proceeding volume prior to this one. I even found one of the ?little "nuggets" Mark has planted in an exchange between Stiger and Eli . Eli teasing him about the future. The last quarter of the book is full of action and suspense. Well worth the wait
Marc is such a talented writer and this book is no different. I just love all of his books. The character Stiger is so well developed. Eli's is also and his humor is hilarious. I can't wait for the next books in all the series from this world or the struggle to get there with Karus and Tovak.
Just finished and Marc has done it again. Great read from start to finish. Stiger and Eli find a lot of trouble on a mission from the Emperor, they have to make a run for it with the enemy on their heels. Political intrigue, battles and an escape from enemy forces and Stiger saves a princess what’s not to like.
Stiger, along with Eli, has been detached for the purposes of transporting (essentially) a bribe to the Kingdom of Thresh. The problem? The Rivan have representatives on the island as well. In order to be successful, Stiger has to be a diplomat as well as a soldier, and with the forces arrayed against him, some things are easier than others.
I have been waiting for this book. As usual it is a fitting tale of the 7th. Pulled me in quickly and kept me interested. No the waiting game begins again. Excellent job sir, I await the next adventure of stiger and his boys
Book number four was an awesome read. I just wish it was a longer story LOL. I can’t wait for book number 5. I highly recommend this series and its author.
another spectacular book by Marc Edelheit. Stiger and his comrade Eli are a twosome of adventure unchecked. I highly recommend all of his books to you… and I hope you enjoy them as much as I have
Another great book in the tales of the seventh series!
As usual, Mark does not disappoint. I really like the action and the descriptions really take you there to the story. I’ve always liked the witty reparate between Stiger and Eli as well. Looking forward to the next one.
I’ve read a number of the books in the service. They’re all outstanding. Please read them and enjoy them. The characters are engaging and realistic, very believable.
