I don't want to hurt her... but she definitely wants to hurt me.

Betrayal doesn’t sting. It hurts worse than that; it feels like a rake over coals, a disembowling, a slow, agonizing stretch on the torture rack.

Myf is hurt, and she’s found someone to blame. She’s focused all her pain on one target.

Me.

WELL GOD FREAKING DAMN. This is the best one yet! Yeah I know I always say that but it's true, each book in this series always manages to top the one before and BOY is this one a doozy. Once again I've been thrust a hundred miles an hour into the chaotically crazy, bizarrely wonderful world that Lauretta has written with such panache. The thills and spills just kept on coming, either having me holding my breath waiting for the shoe to drop or laughing hysterically like a loon, sometimes at the same time (and believe me it wasn't pretty). And even though there is lots of tension, extreme humour and a lot of hope and love, there was one brief moment when I thought it was all gonna come crashing down, instead I got something so unexpected, so utterly left field it left me with my jaw unhinged and applauding Ms Hignett at the same time for her genius. And that cliffhanger, well BAM was that a bolt from the blue. Yes this is a well loved series and I want more, more more....

Daphne captured my heart from the moment I met this wonderfully complex quirky character and she has come a long way from where she started. That's not to say she still doesn't have major problems to deal with, but now she has friends to help her in her battles. I especially love that Brain Daphne and her are on the same page and work together (even if Brain Daphne still has a fixation on stabbing people). But it's the essence of her heart and the love she projects into to others that really makes me adore her beyond all measure, that and the fact she is a total badass. Yes, Daphne is simply magnificent and I'm dying to see how her journey ends.

Romeo is as commanding presence as ever, fiercely determined to keep the woman he loves safe while knowing she can protect herself makes my heart flutter every time. This sexy, protective downright lethal warlock is every woman's dream, but it's his tenderness with Daphne and the love that he shows her that will always have me swooning over him.

Dwayne my absolute legend of a murder goose, is just so very unique in every way and I can't help but love him for it. He finds trouble like a pig roots for truffles, sometimes without even trying and often with hilarious results. But even the god of chaos isn't prepared for someone out to get him. However, as always he keeps me giggling with his razor sharp wit and delightful shenanigans ...

I'm literally counting down the days until the next book and although it will be the last book in the series something tells me that I'm not going to be ready for whatever Lauretta has in store, but one thing I DO know is I'll be riveted to the pages until the very last word... Absolutely fabulous 10/10, totally recommend 😁

Daphne is back for another story. I was a little worried that this was going to be the last in the series because I’m enjoying I’m enjoying this series far too much to say goodbye just yet, thankfully, the story continue. There’s lots of interesting reveals in this one though.

Even though there’s quite a lot of characters and sub plots going on, but not once does it get confusing, rather it’s gripping, funny, moving and just so good. I love Daphne as a character but the side characters are just so well-voiced too; especially, Dwayne.

I tried, I really, really tried, but I couldn’t stop reading to do housework when I started this one. Yes, I read it all in one setting; I should have known better. LOL! Anyway, Daphne and company are back, and they are trying to get Myf back using whatever method they can, and it is a complete and utter wild ride. The ending(s) wasn’t one I had thought, in a good way, and I was left speechless at all that had gone on in this one. This is a wonderful installment, and I wish we could read about Daphne forever. Satisfying, fun, jaw-dropping entertainment at its finest! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Wow this series just keeps getting better. Better, more twisted, and more bizarre - in all the best ways. My favourite part of all these books has been the mini-bios at the beginning because they're so hilarious. Well... the intro humour got topped in this one! No spoilers - go read it!

Never one to disappoint, my favourite urban fantasy author has crafted another fabulous tale that is overflowing with heart and courage, stuffed full of hilarious antics and steeped in mystery and marvels galore as we join the Hidden City crew for the latest epic addition to the series as we draw near the end (insert never ending tears here).

Still reeling after learning that her pantry dwelling, dragon shifter friend Myf, has left with none other than the evil Christopher Jupiter, Daphne must get on with things, regardless of the pain she’s feeling. Putting it to the side for the moment, she gets on with her job and investigates a possible abuse case involving a seemingly odd lynx shifter. The case appears cut and dried, but Daphne’s senses tell her there’s more to it. As usual, her instincts are spot on. Coming to her aide is the lovely and fierce Holly Le Beaux, with her wealth of knowledge and legal expertise making Daphne’s life a tad easier so she can tackle the many other, never ending, issues that pop up, all the while dealing with a huge personal revelation.
Romeo continues to be the complete package, making women everywhere swoon. We get a very unexpected and definitely strange new nest master, Cindy implements her original brand of justice, causing office chaos, and our beloved most chaotic, frisky god, Dwayne, well, he has some, ahem, consequences of his actions to deal with. This book really does have it all.

As usual, Lauretta continues to entertain her readers in the most hysterical, make sure you’ve done your kegel exercises, way possible.

Daphne Ironclaw's first OPCS appointment of the day is a frail, frightened Lynx Shifter mother accused of child abuse. Brain and Heart Daphnes battle over her guilt, and, as usual, combined, they ferret out the truth. Its nearly impossible to do her job these days with all the horrors vying for her attention. Immoral and corrupt Christopher Jupiter has summoned a God of fire within himself, and brainwashed Myf to think that Daphne abandoned her. Goblins and Pixies are attacking her Alpha, Dwayne, God of Chaos, with threats and cannons. Soul-stealer pigeon Stephen is still stalking her. Romeo, her man - the High Priest, the Prince of Shadow, the scorchingly sexy Warlock, is searching the heavens and earth for solutions. There are so many brilliant and dazzling twists and turns in this magnificent, magical 7th book of 'The Hidden City Supernatural Sleuth'! Dwayne is bewitching in his racy, raunchy, risque way, though a touch wary from the magical bombardments! Romeo and his coven are champions, protectors, and warriors. Her former rival, Holly, a powerful witch, joins them in the fight against evil. Will Daphne overcome Myf's unearned hatred? Can they stop the Christopher-combined-with-a-God iniquity? Love, affection, and hilarity are entwined in this tangled tale of Good vs Evil. I love Daphne and Dwayne together... they're like dark chocolate, decadent and delightful yet sweet and smooth! 5 stars once again, Ms Hignett! (arc read)

Honest? I’m shook. That was one of the funniest books I have ever read. I’m still bodily chuckling out loud everytime I think of this book! It feels trite to say, because Lauretta is a hysterical wonderful author, but with every book and series, I feel sure that I couldn’t love and appreciate Lauretta more. And then she writes a banger like this.

I don’t believe in spoilers so I’ll just leave you with one of my favorite quotes. “Zap her with the nipples of hope, babes”.

LOVED! A MUST READ!

penultimate story, liked the previous one better

Rating: 3⭐️

This is yet another review I found myself editing due to my exasperation with the main character, particularly how, at the penultimate book in this series, the author is still continuing to have Daphne’s character remain in the same place as it was at the beginning of the series.

Hignett has previously promised some growth for Daphne, especially with her annoyed “2 personality” inner dialogue, an element of the story and character that was highlighted prior as an issue.

Those constant ongoing conversations between violent‘brain Daphne’ and the other kind, naive and frankly, TSTL Daphne are an element that are repetitive, slow down the narrative, and honestly, irritating at this point. I thought the two halves were reconciled but ,no ,here we are, still with the same ongoing arguments that were old several books ago.

Brain Daphne: let me stab whoever. Emotional Daphne: No it’s wrong. Brain: stabby Stab!
ED: no, we must carry on with our internal dialogue while there’s some poor soul watching us stand here.

Just no. At 23 percent. Well the entirety of the book. Then it gets worse when one part of her calls the other part an idiot. And I’m agreeing.

Myf, the tortured alcoholic dragon shifter is now an enemy. Guess who is whining about that betrayal after Myf stayed locked in cabinets, soused after drinking binges with Dwayne, for ages, while Daphne deals with other drama? Daphne. SMH.

There’s multiple side storylines. The ones with Dwayne , which I’m sure will have ramifications in the finale, still feel like literal fluff.

By the end of the story, while there’s some good stuff here with Myf’s rescue, and a revelation, Daphne’s still such an oblivious, whiny character that I just can’t care about her anymore.

Daphne has gotten to be almost unreadable. Dwayne, her companion Chaos god, as well.

I’ll probably get the last one just to see what happens. But characters like Daphne? Are only interesting to me when they evolve and develop as the series progresses. By book 7, she shouldn’t be the same person as she was in the first novel. Now she’s just one more uninteresting trope.

Too bad because there is interesting mythology and world building going on, and some fascinating concepts here. Those got the rating points.

Well frek and frekaloo, Lauretta has penned another masterpiece! I don't want this series to end, I really am soooooo in love with Daphne and Romeo, Dwayne, Myf...my heart is breaking! This was a very exciting read, with Ms Hignett at the helm, good golly, the ship she steered had me drenched by the end!

Daphne always has a lot on her plate, in this book, she's balancing a huge platter! Her work as a social worker is becoming more complicated, her pain at what Myf did has turned her stomach into a knotty mess, Christopher is back causing havoc, Stephan just won't stay...down, AND there seems to be someone out to get Dwayne. It's impossible not to adore Dwayne, he's snarky, he's sassy, he's protective of those he loves, his reasoning is unlike anyone, he's hilarious and he has ferocious carnal desires! His lovelife is a hoot a minute, HE'S a hoot a minute, unapologetically Dwayne!

Greekology meets present day, yes I do think that would be an appropriate word to describe gods who are self serving, refuses to believe that anyone is above redemption, ok, maybe NOT Christopher but most everyone else does. I love how intricate the plot is, how taut my emotions are pulled and I adore these characters! Daphne will always hold a special place in my heart, since I met her, endured her hardships with her, overcome so much with her, rejoiced with her. Daphne's optimism is one of her exceptional traits, she loves deeply, unconditionally, which is why she gives it her all to get through to Myf. Another character so complex, abused and manipulated, I just want to hug her!

Romeo is a dream any woman would want, sexy, gorgeous, powerful, protective and incredibly loving, he's there for Daphne every step of the way. Daphne has come a long way and has real friends, friends who offer a lot of support in every way. I absolutely loved that she's not a loner anymore, with friends like Holly, who once was a major thorn in Daphne's side and Valerie, a slightly, ok, REALLY weird vamp. Ms Hignett delved deeply into Daphne's psychi, I felt her passion, her determination, her pain, her internal struggles. And when Daphne memory unlocks, who she is, what she is, I swear I was bouncing up and down in my chair. If Ms Hignett was next to me, I would have planted a big kiss on her cheek at her innovative, compelling and timeous bombshells. Of which there were many!

Here I am, expecting the apocalypse to reign, the world to be gobbled up, but you know what this ingenious author did? She brought forth the biggest snort laugh I've ever delivered! OMG, what a twist! Superb! Never, in a thousand years, would I have imagined, the fear, the despair, could manifest into.... well... THAT! Ms Hignett not only delivers an immensely riveting and exciting read, full of drama, emotional angst and unimaginably awesome drama, through the lens of fantasy, she also tackles very real issues, depression, feelings of unworthiness, ruthless and unscrupulous people, and many more real world issues, drawing attention to very pertinent social problems. She does so with flair, with heart, with care, without skirting round these issues, allowing us to face them head on.

This author is so talented, I'm wrapping up in her story the moment I open any Lauretta Hignett book, drawing me in, spiking my adrenaline as though she has an on and off switch, and I'm helpless to resist, not that I want to...The hope infused throughout, no matter how dire the situation or circumstances are, is like balm on a burn, soothing and comforting. The tension and action is cleverly woven with humour in this fast paced, engrossing read. But heck, that ending threw my brain into a spin, all I could think of was, GIMME MORE!

Where to begin?! I absolutely love this series - it has SO much that is just fabulous! Daphne is an MFC that you cannot help but love - appearing so small and weak to those who don’t know her, but having been forged through a lifetime of unimaginable challenges, with an inner strength and determination that shouldn’t be underestimated. Then there is Romeo, the perfect foil for her, able to understand her in a way no one else does. As for Dwayne, well who couldn’t love the resident murder goose, God of Chaos?

In this book Daphne is focused on bring Myf ‘home’ and refuses to believe that she is beyond hope of saving, despite her apparent betrayal in leaving with Christopher Jupiter. Myf has been a character that has tugged on the heartstrings from the beginning, and you just don’t want to believe that she would set out to hurt Daphne. Obviously, the story is also focussed on working out what Christopher Jupiter is doing and how to stop him.

I love how characters in these books are never quickly drawn and moved on from, but given substance, personality and their moment to shine. Some of those moments may come as QUITE a surprise! I’ve also always loved that Cindy has a part in this storyline, having gotten so fond of her in Prue’s story, but she definitely is a shining star this time around…and I LOVED it!

The story keeps you gripped throughout, with different events keeping you enthralled, and never losing any momentum through all the action packed pages. You could never begin to guess at how things would unfold - the rich imagination and fabulous storytelling of this author keeps you guessing, right until the very end. I cannot wait for the next book and just do not want this series to end.

Myf has been gone for about 6 months. Daphne is doing her darndest to suppress her hurt at what Myf has done. Not only did she leave Daphne for Christopher Jupiter, now she’s going out in public and is head of his security. Plus, they have also figured out Christopher is going to try to build a new Pandora. Daphne and Romeo have to figure out how to stop that as well as getting Myf back. Oh and I can’t forget that now Dwayne is being followed by the Devourer of Worlds, whomever that is!
This book sees Daphne tested on her resolve to see the good in people. She’s been hurt by Myf, but she can’t just let it go. There is just something about Daphne that has eternal hope, even if brain Daphne is shabby. she definitely does some soul searching in this book and makes a huge realization. I loved how much we got to read about Dwayne in this book too. Dwayne, the unflappable, has finally found something that scares him.
This book had me snorting laughing so many times. I would love to tell you about them, but that would absolutely ruin the surprise. Even with all the worry and suspense, Lauretta comes through with her hilarity. And there is definitely suspense in this book. From dealing with Christopher and Myf to Dwayne and the goblins, I was glued to the pages. And that epilogue - HOLY COW!! With everything that has happened, I can’t believe this isn’t over yet, but am happy to say there will be yet another book for Daphne!

Oh My! What a great book.
Daphne is out to get Myf back, she is now working for Christopher Justice and seems to think that Daphne betrayed her. A mystery to work out.
Some one is after Dwayne, goblins with rocket launchers, banshees and pixies. He has no idea who and is definitely spooked.
These are the things Daphne has to figure out as well as the usual problems with her job.
This book has a lot happening, not necessarily related but problems nonetheless.
There is action, magic, mystery, surprises (a couple of BIG ones), suspense, romance and humour. How can you not love Romeo, he’s kind, loving, protecting, and everything else you could want. Dwayne is his silly self but the insecurity he shows while being attacked is telling.
The bad guys are really bad; the good guys have a chore in front of them.
This series just seems to be getting better and better. I am So glad this was not the end. Definitely need more Daphne and friends.
The ending opens up the idea of another great story coming.
I sure hope it comes soon.
This is a series and author I will recommend constantly.

Myf goes through a lot in this book, it’s an emotional rollercoaster and poor Daphne just having to roll with it breaks your heart. Dwayne goes through the wringer in this one, but in true Dwayne style his brings the belly laughing humour.
Holly really stood out to me in this story she’s a strong woman that isn’t afraid to take on the mean, corrupt and powerful to fight for what’s right. I’m glad her and Daphne are friends, I want to know more about her story.
I love it when we get a glimpse of loved characters from previous series and Cindy’s cameo is nothing short of hysterical and I mean in both meanings of the word, I couldn’t stop laughing whilst the crazy scene unfolds, Dwayne missing out seeing it and getting peed off about it made it funnier.
This book was brilliant, I can’t wait for the next one!

Absolutely phenomenal, but no surprise there, this series is one of my favourites, written by the extremely talented Lauretta. I wasn’t well and wanted to read it in one sitting as I usually would, but my body wasn’t cooperating, which left me paused at some really emotional and rough times with all the betrayal and hurt feelings, the writing style is just that good that I can be left feeling down and disheartened just like Daphne, but as always I knew there was hope - and that has more context after this book than when I said it in my review of the previous one - you will see!

I love the way the story is woven, with multiple threads going on and you sort of know what is happening, except you don’t fully - like the plot twists, and the long game, it is excellent. I literally cannot wait for the next book, that epilogue confirmed some things for me and left me so wound up for what comes next - this book, this whole series, is both an emotional roller coaster and a feel good read, if you haven’t read Lauretta’s works yet… what are you waiting for!!!

Another 5-star read from Lauretta! First of... Daphne and Romeo... I just LOVE them. But okay... the Countess is still my favorite, she's just so fabulous, and always seems to just KNOW things. I so want to be here when I grow up!

And HALLELUJAH! I loved that Judy got what was coming to her! I do think they were a little harsh on Cindy, considering that Judy was as useless as tits on a boar hog. And poor Myf! I was thrilled to find out... um... oops! Can't say more (spoilers!).

Seriously. This is a FANTASTIC BOOK, I dropped everything the minute I got it, and stayed up all night until almost dawn... "just one more chapter..." until I hit the end, and then it was noooooo!! More! Want more!!!

Wow, I was really looking forward to this book and Lauretta has not disappointed me at all.
I love the characters in this series and how they are all an integral part of Daphne' journey.
This book is both shocking, with so funny. That I had to stop reading at one point because I was laughing that hard I had tears running down my face 😂
I will only say that you will not be disappointed with this book, because I feel that if I say anymore I may spoil your experience and give something away, which are two things that I do not want.
Lauretta is my unicorn 🦄 author, because every book that I have read by this very talented author has been a 5 star 🌟 🤩 book. If I could give it more stars I definitely would 🪿♥️😄

Oh my god I fell into this book and came out with my heart torn in two and a desperate need to know how it all ends. Daphne has come a long way from the naive little shifter girl who came to Philly and I have loved every minute of her journey. The insane and powerful family she has collected along the way are some of my favourite characters ever and Dwayne’s little problem had me hooked and then laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe! Love the characters, love the world building and just adore this series. So make sure you have a cuppa and snuggle down to laugh, cry and curse the author for that ending!

good

I really like this series and Daphne. I’m sure Daphne has a split personality by the way she refers to her brain. She’s definitely quirky, but I like her anyway. I felt bad about the way that she was treated by Myf, but on the other hand, Myf was young and treated like crap as well. Daphne just had to realize what was going on with Myf. Dwayne for some reason thought that somebody was trying to kill him, but he got a very interesting surprise at the end of the book. Judy finally got what she deserved in this book as well. I definitely will be reading the next book in this series.

I loved Wolf vs the Dragon. Daphne’s growth was wonderful to see, and Dwayne’s adventures continue to lurch from the dangerous to the ridiculous in the best possible way. The story is enchanting, with Christopher staying menacing and just unpredictable enough to keep me hooked.
What I especially enjoyed was the way Lauretta walks the tightrope between trusting our hunches and then unveiling new, important information at just the right moment. It made the whole read both surprising and satisfying.
A brilliant continuation of the series—I couldn’t put it down.

OMG!!!
Talk about a roller coaster, Wolf vs the Dragon is unbelievable. Well, believable if you have even a 0.001 understanding of Lauretta Hignetts mind...

Totally gripped from the first word as always. Throughly enjoyed of course, but the ending! Sheesh, (trying to be polite here). Talk about leaving me with my jaw hanging down to Australia. Now there's needing to know what happens next and then there's NEEDING to know.
Only two words. Bloody hell!

love, love, love

Tensions are high as the group wait for the next shoe to drop, so to speak.
Dwayne is convinced he’s being stalked by someone trying to kill him.
Myf needs to be rescued.
There’s a new vampire nest master incoming.
Glitter bombs and much more.
This book has answers, questions, love and revenge and so much more. A delight to read and as it should leaves you wanting the next instalment

Such a fun series

I love this series, it is full of crazy, zany characters, lots of action, magic and as you can figure by the crazy and zany, tons of humor. Daphne and Romeo are great together and all their friends just add to it. The storylines will not let you put the book down and you just keep turning the pages to see how they get out of the troubles that find them. I cannot wait for the next book.

Lauretta never let's us down

Phew when I started this, I never thought Daphne could have equal standing with Chloe, Prue etc but...I was wrong.

I can't get enough of Daphne and the gang and I really, really dislike the nasty villains in this. I am happy we will have another installment and can honestly say that these will be added to my 'to be read again' list.

I was looking forward to the next book in the series and was not disappointed. I’ve never been disappointed in this author. The characters continue to be true to their nature but with each book you learn a little bit more about them. The humor will keep you entertained as more mysteries are solved.

nasty nasty cliff hanger

Delighted another book is coming. What a twist to end on though.
Evil is so evil in the series, hope also strong. Lots of OM G moments and an unusual experience of Dwayne.
