The video proves it—at least the parts that weren’t erased. A flash of light. A boy’s fall. A silence that followed.
Sixteen-year-old Emmy Moore feels the disturbance like a bruise beneath her skin. Raised on her grandmother’s whispered warnings and hard truths about the evil that lurks around Eastland County, Emmy knows the house isn’t finished claiming what it wants.
She doesn’t want to go inside. She knows she has to.
With her loyal dog Patch at her side, Emmy crosses a line that can’t be uncrossed, uncovering a legacy of violence, secrets, and a force that feeds on innocence itself. What waits for her won’t be defeated easily—and it won’t let her walk away unchanged.
Crossroads is a dark, immersive supernatural thriller that pulls you in immediately and refuses to let go. It stands powerfully on its own while opening the door to the larger Black Mass universe. A story of courage, consequence, and the terrible cost of surviving the truth.
Mark A. Daniel is a writer of the supernatural thriller genre including the recent release "Crossroads".
Taking the advice of his third-grade teacher to “pursue writing of some kind as a career,” he promptly wrote his first book From Six Feet to Two Inches. It was about 10 pages long. He never looked back.
He has since completed eight novels and two short story collections. Black Mass, Resurrection, The Gifted, Burial Grounds and The Threshold are available today, as are the short stories in Razor’s Edge 1 and Razor’s Edge 2.
Mark lives and writes on a small ranch in rural West Texas, accompanied by his wife of 30 years, a few dogs, several cats, and a varying number of chickens.
I justst finished Crossroads!!!! Absolutely loved it. There was suspense, there was WTFS, there were jaw dropping moments. All of which I loved. Now let’s talk ending, I need more. Give me more!!!!
When a high school student livestreams a dare to explore the decaying, long-abandoned Walker House, he doesn’t make it out alive. One misstep, a fatal fall - and just like that, Eastland County is once again reminded that the past never stays buried.
Sheriff Jason Campbell (MMC) has lived in Eastland his whole life. He knows this place holds more than just small-town secrets - it’s where the veil between worlds is dangerously thin. Although the boy’s death at the Walker house shows no signs of foul play, Jason knows something darker is lurking in the darkness.
Sixteen-year-old Emmy Moore (FMC), along with her loyal dog Patch, feels it too. Drawn inexplicably to the Walker House, Emmy can sense the pull of ancient forces. With knowledge passed down from her grandmother, Emmy along with her friend Moncerrat are the next in line of generational witches. The girls know their help will be needed to stop the evil forces threatening to break through.
As the body count rises, the enemy remains unseen, and time runs short. Sheriff Campbell must work alongside the girls to confront a malevolent force that threatens to consume all of Eastland County. But will it be enough?
Crossroads delivers more than just chills and suspense. Its characters are grounded, real, and familiar - you don't just read their story, you live it. With a fast-paced narrative, multiple POVs, and expertly woven timelines, the tension builds chapter by chapter, keeping you breathless until the very end.
Mark A. Daniel crafts a paranormal thriller that is both haunting and immersive. Ghosts, generational magic, and a battle between good and ancient evil - this is a story that grips you and refuses to let go.
Thank you to Mark A. Daniel for allowing me to Alpha/Beta/ARC for Crossroads. As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, from the author or publisher for leaving a fair and honest review.
If you love supernatural suspense, small-town terror, and fierce female leads, Crossroads by Mark A. Daniel is an absolute must-read.
This is a supernatural masterpiece that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. From the very first page, it casts a spell—woven with generational magic, atmospheric tension, and haunting suspense.
Dark secrets, restless spirits, and a mysterious stranger each bring their own chilling presence, and Daniel masterfully weaves them into a haunting, unforgettable narrative.
The pacing is relentless, the scares are real, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Crossroads is everything you want in a paranormal thriller: eerie, emotional, and completely unputdownable.
Mark A. Daniel doesn’t just write horror—he conjures it.
This book is amazing! It's a classic haunted house tale of good vs. evil but that's not all. It is also a supernatural journey into friendship, trust, and sisterhood. It's about building bonds that stretch over miles. It's about putting your faith in others.
It's also about some pretty wild evil and the battle to stop it! It's about fighting with everything you've got! It's about ghosts and vengeance.
It's a whirlwind that hooks you and doesn't let you go! This was an easy 5 star read!! I fell in love with these characters and didn't want it to end! Thank goodness there's another book coming! I can't wait to read more about Emmy, Patch, and the coven!
Another awesome book by Mark A. Daniel I've read most of this author's books, they just keep getting better, he does not disappoint with this one. Horror meets supernatural in this eerie book you won't want to put down. I love the author's writing style and ability to tell a story while leaving some details to the reader's imagination. I love the characters in this novel, especially Patch, and I like the references to characters and events from his previous books, ties things together nicely. Although this reads well as a stand alone This is a great story about the supernatural and how a group of Witches, with the help of the sheriff's department stop the killing of innocent people by using the powers they have been handed down through the generations. Can't wait to see what Mark A. Daniel writes next Much thanks to the author for the ARC of this novel😍
“Crossroads” by Mark A. Daniel is another gripping installment in the Black Mass series! This supernatural thriller delivers on all fronts—intense tension, perfect pacing, and a story that pulled me in from the first page. The atmosphere is dark and eerie. I’m hooked, absolutely love this series, and can’t wait to see what comes next!
The shocking beginning drew me in. Strong creepy vibes. Enjoyed how the story unfolded from multiple POVs. Loved Patch. Loved the music references during tense moments in the story. I'm still mulling over the unsettling ending.
A big thank you to the author and Goodreads. I was thrilled to win this book on Kindle in a Goodreads giveaway.
What can you say about a book so good you're at a loss for words to describe how much you enjoyed it. When I read the prologue, I was hooked. The characters (some of which have made an appearance in previous books) are fierce and determined, some good and some evil plus a tenacious dog who has suffered numerous injustices. The plot was well thought out and drew me in immediately with a mixture of suspense, supernatural occurrences and horror. The setting of a haunted house, a mysterious well and a coven of chanting witches lend to the intensity of the plot. Mark A. Daniel is a brilliant storyteller and writer. Crossroads is a five star book which will stick with you long after you've finished reading it.
Outstanding. Another great addition to Daniel's shelf.
A suspenseful, terror filled, read. In the small town of Eastland, TX, the supernatural is nothing new. From the Prologue with a haunted house and a pile of clothes, the author makes sure that you have already gotten up and turned the light on. The jump scares are real. Especially when a big black dog is staring you down. The battle between good and evil persists. Who will come out on the winning side? What an excellent read!
Crossroads pulls you in from the very first page, opening with a prologue so tense and action-packed it had my heart racing. Emmy and Sheriff Campbell are back—joined by a fresh cast of characters—and facing a new, sinister force haunting Eastland County.
While it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend starting with Resolution: Emmy’s Story (or better yet, the full story beginning with Black Mass and Resurrection) to fully experience the rich history and tension leading into this sequel. Crossroads picks up a year after the events of Emmy’s Story, and every moment feels like a payoff for fans of the series.
Mark A. Daniel blends dark secrets, restless spirits, and a mysterious stranger into a haunting tale that refuses to let you go.
Crossroads by Mark A Daniel 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is a very entertaining, keep you at the edge of your seat, supernatural thriller!! It’s a dark and mysterious story, that pulled me in immediately. The book is full of suspense and intensity.
An old abandoned house and a mysterious well outside lead to crazy mishaps and murders. There’s dark secrets and magic going on around this house. Emma and her special dog Patch are drawn to this house and want to figure out why. She is brought together with others who make up a coven and are trying to use magic to figure out what is going on.
It’s a fast read and very well written. There was great imagery and I felt like I was watching everything play out in front of me.
This is part of the Black Mass Series, but can be read as a stand alone. I can’t wait to read more from Mark A. Daniel’s!
*I highly recommend reading this fantastic thriller!* 👻🫣🏚️
First, I would love to thank you for the opportunity for reading this ARC!
This book blew me away!! I was hooked right from that awesome prologue! I could not put it down, I was wayyy past my bedtime.
Paranormal and witches… two of my favorites combined into one amazing story!!
Patch is absolutely my new favorite character! (Emmy is up there too!) Patch reminds me of my Vader. As soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had to read this.
Go pre order yourself a copy! Comes out August 9th! You won’t regret it!
OMG! I just adored this book! Giving it a new genre: cozy mythical mystery. It has just the right amount of mysticism to add some scare and just the right amount of mystery to make it intriguing. The story follows a coven of young witches who find themselves battling the evil that has taken residence in an abandoned house. It is a standalone but does make references to earlier books which I now have to go find. Very well written and fun to read. It ends with the option for another novel which I will be keeping my eyes out for. Bravo Mr. Daniel!
This starts with a bang! Literally the first line is "They saw his death live on Twitch." Ummmmm...what?! This story revolves around this abandoned haunted house and the lives that are lost because of it. What else does it have?! I am so glad you asked! It is chalked full of page turning moments, supernatural beings, descendents of witches, an amazing dog Patch, Good v. Evil, and an ending that makes you excited for the next book coming! Seriously, this is a book you DEFINITELY want to read!
I was given this book, by the author, to read and review. This is part of a series; however, I feel this can be read as a stand-alone. I hadn't read the others before reading this one.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had just enough suspense, mixed with some supernatural bits, to make this an engaging read. It was clean and had no smut (so refreshing). I feel I would rate this as YA and up. I will definitely be reading the full series now. And I highly recommend checking it out as well.
An amazingly creepy horror novel. Get ready! This supernatural story is terrifying and addicting all at the same time. It has a haunted house with evil entities that kept me turning the pages. You may want to read with the lights on, which I recommend. I love the witch Emmy and her dog Patch best of all. They are such great characters. After reading this, I don't think I'll ever want to go near a well. Here's hoping this author is writing faster so we can have more please.
This was my first Mark Daniel’s book and I must say I’m a fan.
The story follows a young witch and her dog trying to help save their town from whatever is lurking in the abandoned haunted house.
The book was a good blend of supernatural and witchy with a good amount of twists and turns. It definitely kept you wanting to see what was going to happen next. I also like how he added a few lines from the dog’s perspective. It was a nice touch.
Crossroads by Mark A. Daniel was another amazing novel in the Black Mass series. There were jaw dropping, almost tears streaming down the face, gasping, and cheering going on throughout every page. Haunted house, mystery well, witches, a heroic massive dog with different cool eye patches, sisterhood, and beautiful in depth character descriptions is everything you could want or ask for in a novel!
I was hooked from the first sentence: They saw his death live on Twitch.
What starts off as a dare, ends in death. A small coven of witches comes together to try to defeat an old evil that has taken over a haunted house and abandoned well. Join Emmy and Patch on their journey to stop the death and destruction unleashed in their small town.
This is an excellent supernatural thriller. Haunted house - check, coven of witches - check, mysterious villain - check. If you’re a fan of the writings of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Anne Rice, I believe you will love this newest book by Mark A. Daniel.
This story offers so much more than your stereotypical haunted house with paranormal elements, witches, mysterious death and a war between good and evil. The first pages grabbed my attention and didn't let go. Once I started reading this one, I couldn't put it down. This is the perfect spooky thriller for this time of year.
Crossroads by Mark A. Daniel is a captivating supernatural thriller that pulls you in from the first page. Emmy’s journey as a young witch uncovering dark secrets is intense, emotional, and beautifully written. The mix of mystery, magic, and heart kept me reading late into the night. A powerful and immersive story that stays with you long after you finish.
This book made me think of 80’s horror movies, in the best way. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the style, the ambiance, and setting. A strange drifter who hears voices, a sheriff who has tangled with the supernatural, a haunted house, a magnificent dog, and the heroes who rise to the occasion. Fun read that I truly enjoyed and recommend!
Gripping page turner from the prologue to the last page! This book is a shorter read than the first three but it definitely was not lacking in any aspect. If you haven’t not started the Black Mass series yet you are definitely missing out!
Really enjoyed this book! It was very well written and I liked the different points of views from all of the characters. It had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen.
Take a journey with Emma and her dog Patch in this supernatural thriller about a good vs. evil, old spirits, new spirits, 👻 haunted house and a water well that, let's say it will give you goosebumps! 😱👹
It starts off right from the beginning in the prologue, and keeps you turning the pages all night! With 207 pages and a great story makes this a quick read. 📖
There are 3 other books before this one, which I have not read YET but I'm going to!! It's so well written that you don't need to read the other books first BUT you're going to want to!
If you haven’t read Crossroads yet I definitely recommend you get it! This was a great supernatural thriller by Mark A Daniel - Author that had me hooked from the beginning and kept me guessing right up to the end. I loved it !! I can’t wait to read more of his books.
Crossroads had me from the very beginning with suspense and immediate action in the prologue. I enjoyed seeing Emmy and Sheriff Campbell again along with a new cast of characters. Of course there is also a new source of evil plaguing Eastland county that demands live bodies be fed into a well located on an abandoned property.
After reading Mark's other books I couldn't wait to get to read Crossroads! While this can easily hold its own, I'd recommend reading Resolution: Emmy's Story first as it involves many of the same characters and continues around a year after the events in that book. Heck! If you haven't read it, I'd also recommend Black Mass as it is the beginning of this whole saga.
