A group of English high school graduates have their hedonistic summer holiday cut short when they are trapped in a small town by deformed and deranged killers.
Wow! What an amazing novella, I was hooked and drawn in from the very beginning! I honestly couldn’t put this down and finished it in one sitting, I needed to find out how it ended!
Kept me on the edge of my seat rooting for characters I initially wouldn’t have thought I would have. The gore is intense but I think it only adds to the intensity of the devastation being caused.
Myah’s death destroyed me especially as I was hoping for Noah’s happy ending, and with Cleo being so close to the escape was amazingly brutal.
This has become one of my favourite reads of the year and I will probably go back and read it again very soon, because why not give myself more heartache?
Thank you so much to the author Jason reaching out to me and recommending me to read his novella I’ll definitely be looking into more of his work as this one was so well written!

Pecton is an imaginative and gripping read that had me hooked from the start. The storyline was fresh and unique, with an intriguing mix of suspense, emotion, and subtle twists that kept me turning the pages. The author has a real talent for building atmosphere and tension, and some of the imagery in the book really stuck with me long after I finished.
One thing I will say, and this is just personal preference, I did find some of the language a bit repetitive at times. I also would’ve loved to see the book broken up into more chapters or sections to give the pacing a bit more variety. That said, the core story was strong enough to carry me through, and it didn’t take away too much from my overall enjoyment.
If you’re looking for something different, with a bold voice and a story that lingers, Pecton is definitely worth checking out.
I was hooked! The book was very well paced, the characters were well developed and I honestly just enjoyed it all. This was my first ever horror read and I expected it to be a lot more gory etc and I would struggle but I was so pleasantly surprised. I was a little sad over some of the deaths but honestly it was expected and I didn’t expect that many to survive haha.

This was a great short story that I read in a day. It is a story about some kids who graduated and went to Pecton to party and celebrate their graduation. It's while they are there that things start getting interesting and people start being unalived by people with swollen faces. The book is a horror story, but although there were some gruesome parts, the story wasn't that bad. The ending had me asking why, why, why? Seriously, why??? Overall, it was a great read, and I did enjoy it.
Pecton sounded too intriguing to resist and it hasn’t left my mind since I started reading it. All of the emotion, trauma, grief… so powerful and affecting. Jason Boje’s writing is so beautiful and eloquently put that it paints a clear picture in your mind and feels as though you are living it.
The horror aspect was perfect to me, with an abundance of creatively violent and brutal deaths. It is clear a lot of research has been done into the themes presented in this book. Events were described in such a way that there was enough danger to be spooked (with literal chills!) but just enough information was held back to be mysterious also. The author has built up good anticipation and tension, always keeping you guessing and wanting more.
Characters were all unique and developed well. The banter and humour of characters was well-placed and provided some necessary relief from the heavy events. One of my favourite quotes by a surprisingly likeable character: “not everyone can be a perfect little prick like you.”
Although not the ending I secretly hoped for (HEA where everyone survives!), I was fully satisfied with the ending, feeling like the story comes full circle, with plenty of life lessons thrown in. Jason Boje has a gift and I can’t wait to read more of his stories.
Read this is one sitting! Different to my usual reads, but still is a good book! I found myself thinking “don’t go into the forest!!!” And had no idea who was going to survive and was very unpredictable. A little too gory for me, but still a good book overall.
Was a pretty good read! Very easy to get through since the book is so fast paced. I do kind of wish the plot wasn’t so rushed and that the characters would have had a little more depth.
3.5 stars for me! Nice little horror novella which was action packed from the start! Hills Have Eyes meets Friday 13th which I really enjoyed. Loads of cool characters and Cleo was my fave!
