Love, like a fire, can burn you, or ignite you. Sometimes, it’s both.
1 Corinthians 13; 4-7 tells “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy. It is not self-seeking, and it not easily angered. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Fenix is a high-born fae who will one day rule over Ellewood as its High Lord. In the interim, a war looms beyond their realm. Fenix’s powers are unmatched, and he is the key to defeating the darkness.
Coraline knew better than to fall in love with him. She knew one day her status as a lesser fae would tear them apart, but her heart was traitorous. On their last night before Fenix leaves for battle, Cora makes a decision that alters everything.
Three years later, the war ends, but celebration is short-lived, as the current High Lord of Ellewood has fallen ill. All assume Fenix will return to Ellewood and take his father’s place on the throne, but when he comes upon a little inn on the way—one which his comrades have praised for giving them hope during wartime and which holds a sense of familiarity and comfort that he immediately recognizes as hers—Fenix puts his travels on hold.
Can love transcend time? Will Fenix and Cora find a way back to each other, or will the old laws of class keep them apart forever?
This was a sweet short story I read between stops on a road trip. Coraline wasn’t my favorite, but only because “I’m breaking up with you because you’re more ______ than me, and I don’t trust you to not hurt me.” I love that Fenix returned more determined to make their love a public - and legal - one.
If you enjoy light fantasy and sweet romance, this is a great pick! Read it!
“Love, like a fire, can burn you, or ignite you. Sometime’s it’s both.”
Such a sweet short romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I feel like it could be turned into a full length story, and expand on the magic system, her world of faeries, and of course the wonderful characters! I had to remind myself it was a short story, because a few times I felt like it moved quickly, but it makes sense being a short story.
Such a wonderful debut from Alyssa, I look forward to more of her works!
Amazing read, the storyline was so captivating. The characters were well thought out. Great story from the author. Can’t wait to see more from this author.
It was an amazing for a short story. The amount of detail about the characters was really good for the low amount of pages. I really wish this was a somewhat 400 page book so it could go into detail of how they met, how they felt when they separated, how her life was for the three years without seeing him, his place in the war, if he gets the throne. Just ahhh so many things i want,no NEED more detail on. Only complaint is the lack of length.
"I'd pushed my desires aside and shattered my own heart into pieces."
I'll always be a sucker for a story about someone who makes the wrong choice for the right reason. Cora puts the fate of her realm and the needs of Fenix above her own and exemplifies the true meaning of love backed by actions.
This is a sweet romance with spiritual undertones that never come across as preachy and insistent. It's more of the broad strokes of good vs evil, which will appeal to most readers.
So many powerful themes: Love against the odds, discrimination, war times, and a real love that is hard to achieve but worth the fight.
Feliciano delivers a heartfelt story of the things that matter most. I'm looking forward to reading more from her in the future.
Love's Flame was a beautiful short story Romantasy. Alyssa had beautiful world building and a lovely couple that has you rooting for them from the very first page. Fenix and Cora story really shows that true love surpasses all and will have you swooning until the end. I would recommend this short story for anyone who enjoys Romantasy, and is looking for a quick one-hour read.
Favorite quote: “Only you is exactly what I want. Magical children or not, I would love them the same. Wealth or not, I would love us the same. You are my home. Let me come home.”
Tropes: - Childhood Friends to Lovers - War - Prince & Tavern Owner - Happy Ending - Fae realm - True Love - Christian Based
Alyssa Feliciano’s debut short story, Love’s Flame, packs an impressive amount of emotion into a brief, enchanting read. The charming village setting and heartfelt characters drew me into this cozy fantasy romance, leaving me eager for more. I hope the author expands this world into a full-length novel!
Subtle spiritual undertones weave through the story, offering a framework that explores profound themes like war, death, social class, and the courage to stand for what is just and meaningful. The phrase “love that transcended time” resonated deeply, capturing the story’s essence. The characters’ dedication to doing the right thing, even through loss and heartache, builds to a profound happily ever after that feels timeless.
A sweet romance wrapped in a magical world. A backdrop of war, a caste system and an heir to the throne. Alyssa Feliciano manages to squeeze a lot into a short story. A glimpse into a fantastical world. She will have to write more to satisfy her readers curiosity. Follow her and stay tuned.
I really enjoyed this story ot was short but the author did a good job of filling in the gaps. It was sweet, light-hearted, and clean, I really appreciate that. I'm excited to see what Feliciano will write next.
I’m all about a good Romantasy, and this one was absolutely worth the read! Short, sweet, and full of heart, I instantly fell in love with Cora and Fenix’s story and the vivid fantasy world Alyssa created. It’s a quick, magical read that left me wanting more!
