I selected this from the Amazon Prime library as a freebie/loan - it's very short. There are several pages at the beginning and end that are promotions for other products. Really - this is a good web page or wikipedia article about meditation.

This book offers a nice primer on meditation: the author discusses the benefits of meditation, different types of meditation, some tips on how to make the time and create a comfortable space for meditation.

One of the chief principles repeated throughout is the difference between your self/mind and your thoughts and reactions/actions. Meditation is a great practice to help clear the clutter (seems to be a theme in my reading lately) and allow you to let go of unproductive thoughts, feelings and other distractions so that you can make better decision, reduce stress and enjoy life more fully.

All excellent goals and there's simply no arguing with the content of this book, albeit a brief reminder/refresher of why one should meditate.

Simple, concise book to get you started on thinking about and practicing meditation. I enjoyed how quick the book was to read and the insights it gives you into the mind, stillness, and meditation. I took off a star because of poor editing.

Starters guide

This book is a great starters guide for those interested in meditation either because they are curious about it or because they are interested in meditating themselves. I personally read this book because I'm learning about Buddhism and everything that falls under its umbrella. Will definitely recommend this book.

Excellent introduction.

I have been meditating fairly regularly for a good long time now, but it was still helpful to read this book and be reminded of why and how. I like the fact that it recognizes Christian thinking as a valid part of meditation life, too. Not too long, but well written and very much worth reading. Highly recommended.

This was a good introduction to meditation for me. While, yes, it has a lot of information that could be found online, I liked the presentation. It goes over the basics of meditation, suggestions on how to get started, and some nice inspirational quotes. I knew nothing about meditation. This was a good bite sized introduction. It was really short. Each page had large margins, large print, and large spacing.

Welp, it does say "for beginners..." At 20 minutes, however, it's more of a pamphlet than a book. Gives a basic rationale, some different types of meditation, but not much in the way of "Do A, B, and C, and you're aiming for this." Pretty sketchy on details and I suppose it's intended more as an orientation than serious instruction. Freebie, at least.

really good guide

Really great meditation guide . Highlights common obstacles and the various types of meditation. But rather than just explaining the benefits this book actually explains how to meditate in a practical manner!

Very helpful overview of the purpose and process!

This is a practical guide to the meditation experience for someone who wants to get started on a regular practice of meditation. It seems like a simple thing to do, but having some clear guidance on the preparation and environment to facilitate the experience is so helpful for establishing a new habit, which this needs to be. Thank you for a quick read to start the process!

Chevan would have benefitted from an editor to catch grammatical and translation errors that distract the reader. However, I totally recommend this book for anyone who is curious about meditation but unsure if they’re the “right” type of person for it or how they should start. This is a concise, practical guide to the fundamentals, and from this text I can very easily research further into particular topics now that I have a basic understanding.

This is a good primer and a short concise book on meditation. The author discusses the benefits of meditation, the different types and some tips of how to start and where to meditate. It does not go into great detail but it was a good starting off point to now lead me to more detailed books. I found this to be helpful in this endeavor.

One page summary

Fortunately I read this for free from Unlimited Kindle. This book could have been summarized in 1-2 pages and provide the same amount of information. I'm sure a quick internet search will give you more information. If you can read it for free, might as well because it doesn't take long to read, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Learning New Things

So many simple concepts 1) being patient, 2) knowing the reason “why”, 3) posture, 4) making a priority, 5) breathing, 6) subduing chatter, and much more. Simple to understand, absolutely! Easy to master, no! Joy must be in the journey not in the accomplishment.

Great starting point.

This book is exactly what I needed. I am fairly new to meditation but I let my practice suffer due to new job and moving. This book reminded me what and how I should be practicing. I would recommend this book to anyone starting a new practice.
