She came to say “I do.” She didn’t expect the ghost or the body count.
Ryley St. James came to the island to get married. Sun, sand, and vows in front of friends and family. That was the plan. She didn’t expect the place to be haunted. And she definitely didn’t expect a ghost to crash her party.
The dress is perfect. The vows are ready. The guest list includes psychics, FBI agents, and more sarcasm than champagne. But when a ghost girl no one invited latches on and starts making demands, the weekend spins straight into supernatural chaos.
Now Ryley’s dodging a spirit with an attitude, unraveling an old mystery, and trying to keep her dress blood-free. Without her reaper bracelet, she’s basically defenseless, and it’s going to take more than a sandcastle shovel to dig up the truth and the bones to send the dead party crasher into the light.
As the bodies start stacking up like some twisted scavenger hunt, Ryley has to solve the case before the island claims someone she loves. The dead don’t care about wedding vows.
And this time, the living may not be able to save her.
I write the kind of books that make you check your locks before bed and leave the lights on just in case.
I'm Kate Allenton, an author who lives in the space where paranormal suspense, supernatural thrillers, and edge of your seat crime fiction collide. My stories range from psychics and reapers in small towns that look perfectly normal until they absolutely aren't, to gripping FBI thrillers where the monsters are all too human.
You'll find me writing the Lost Souls Society series, where death is just the beginning of the mystery, and the Psychic Oversight series, where seeing the future doesn't always mean you can change it.
With over 80 books published, I've spent more than a decade perfecting the art of the cliffhanger ending and the 2 AM "just one more chapter" problem.
Soooooo good. I LOVE this series. Ryley & Adler are such great characters. This series is amazing. It has it all…mystery, paranormal, characters that leap from the pages and an epic love story.
I can’t wait for more. I especially love how she brings characters from other stories together. I highly recommend this author. She is a favorite!
This book was great! It’s got mystique, an incredible mystery that I didn’t figure out although I did have my suspicions, a tight plot that had twists and turns, and even made me cry a couple of times. Just to be fair, I laughed too. Ryley’s comments were amusing and I don’t get tired of them.
In this installment of the series, Ryley and Adler are finally getting married. They’ve booked their wedding at an exotic tropical paradise, friends and family are there, everything is set until a ghost little girl makes herself known. That set the stage for chaos and drama. The tension screamed from the pages and had me flying to a most satisfying ending.
I felt bad for Adler more than once. He wants to protect Ryley and Josh (their adopted son), but he doesn’t have the abilities that they have. He can’t see ghosts or speak to them like they can. How can he protect them from something he cannot see? It isn’t stated in the story, but he had to feel as if it was an exercise in futility at times. He hung in there, though and trusted Ryley and never gave up his masculinity. I loved him and the sugary things he said.
This was a stellar read, but I really wanted some character descriptions. I read a lot of books and I can’t remember details like that from book to book, especially when some time has passed between releases. I know I sound like a broken record, but descriptions really do help me connect with the characters. Just saying…
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Ryley had hoped for a destination wedding that was peaceful, and not interrupted by ghostly shenanigans, but it wasn't to be. Instead she finds herself at a haunted resort, where the ghost is almost as dangerous as some of the residents there-- at least one of whom seems to be a murderer.
Poor Ryley doesn't quite get the wedding she had dreamed of, but when it does finally happen, it's one she enjoyed because her found family is there. And yes, it takes most of the book, but it does happen- just not without some typical Ryley-type issues. Adler was certainly a star in this book, as a good portion of it actually came from his point of view. He struggles with being able to protect Ryley and Josh, and it was nice to see both his struggle and his determination to not let the fact he can't see the ghosts prevent him from helping. We do get a little visit with Savanah and Mason from the Psychic Oversight series which was nice, but I remain a little confused about the references to haunted taxidermy, and am not entirely sure if that's somewhere in this series, a reference to a crossover in another series, or an event off page! In the end, this is a fast paced, enjoyable paranormal mystery/thriller, featuring all of our Lost Souls Society favourites, and with a promise of more yet to come! Don't read as a standalone, because it does build upon events that happened in previous books, but definitely go enjoy the rest of the series if you haven't read them yet!
What is a wedding without murder....or a ghost? Ryley and Adler are finally going to get married. Ryley chose their venue, a luxury resort, based on a destination magazine. She had never personally seen or visited Dolphin Bay. As they say, big mistake, huge, in fact. Ryley felt like the site felt "off" right from the start but was determined to make the best of it. Nothing was going to ruin her wedding.
It doesn't take long for the turmoil, crime or ghost to enter the picture. A great story that will have you turning the pages to see what catastrophe will follow next. You will wonder if the marriage will ever really happen. Will Ryley and Adler finally seal the deal? You will only find out by reading to the end, but it is worth the read and you will enjoy every page.
Kate Allenton's latest novel, "Grave Devotion," is a gripping and suspenseful read that keeps readers thoroughly engaged from start to finish. The book showcases Allenton's exceptional storytelling skills, drawing readers into a compelling narrative that maintains high tension and excitement throughout the story. Her masterful writing style ensures that readers remain captivated, eagerly turning pages to discover what happens next in this thrilling literary work.
This series delivers on every level. It has a bit of everything romance, mystery, adventure, all served up with a paranormal twist. The characters are as interesting and unique as the storylines. I love the intertwined characters from the sister series. This appeals to me as it keeps the other series and characters fresh in your mind. Read the series and enjoy!
Wow this book keeps you on the edge of your seat . I wasn’t sure what was going to happen next with Ryley ,Josh and Adler There were so many close calls for poor Ryley. I’m glad Adler and Ryley finally got married. It’s going to be interesting to see how things turn out for Josh.
I’ve really enjoyed this series, and watching how everything unfolds. It’s packed with action and adventure, with some mystery tossed in to balance everything out. I’ve also read all the Cree series and the Savannah spin off. I can’t wait to see what happens in the future!
Grave Devotion is an excellent addition to the Lost Souls Society series! Adler and Ryley finally make it to their wedding destination, but things are never easy for them and the family they have created. There’s nothing like a dead spirit, murder, and a hurricane to make their wedding a celebration! I’m now looking forward to the next book in the series!
Grave Devotion by Kate Allenton. (Lost Souls Society Book 7)
This is another great installment in this series. In my opinion this book 7, is not really a stand-alone book, this story continues the overall story arc in this series and sets up the next book. I liked the way that Josh was integrated into the family of the heart and at the end of the book, Josh was assured of his place in the lives of Adler and Riley. A nice read. For me this story is at 3 and half stars.
I enjoy this series. Paranormal events, sarcasm, love, sarcasm, humor, and more sarcasm. There were a couple loose ends from the plot, but overall the story flowed well. It got a big wordy at the end, and of course we have a , but wait! There’s more moment.
I’ve read all of the series so far in about a week! I was devastated to find that the next book isn’t out yet. I LOVE the story the build up in all the books about the story of the book and the build up of what we will eventually find out about everyone! Can not wait for the next book!!!
The ghost story was good. Josh was good. The rest of the book was meh. Too much filler regarding wedding prep and the destination, not enough action and ghosts. I was super excited for this book. What a let down.
This was another excellent addition to this series. My only regret? It ended. Now, I have to wait for the next book to be written. I love this series. It's a seriously solid series. I highly recommend it.
This is a fabulous series - I have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Aside from ghosts, there is romance, family and intrigue, all bundled together with a perfect amount of sass and sarcasm.
Another great instalment in this series. Great storytelling with full enjoyable characters. I just could not put the book down, sadly I have come to the end, I look forward to reading more from this author.
