Bertie is at it again. It starts when she wants a traffic light at a dangerous intersection. But because the purchase of an automatic traffic counter would cut into the city council's Christmas party fund, Bertie is forced to count each car personally and present a report. Then Bertie, in her inimitable fashion, gets into it with one of the council members. When he dies of a heart attack, she's accused of causing it. Goaded into running for the now-open position, an unlikely political career is launched. That's not all. She finds herself running against Booger Bailey, he of barking goat fame. That's going to be interesting. Who, for instance, is the mysterious donor financing his campaign? And then there's the two octogenarians who talk Bertie into backing them in a business venture: street vending their boiled peanuts. But what are they really up to? Seemingly insignificant events once again twist Bertie's life into a series of improbable, and hilarious, misadventures. Because Bertie is off and running.
I’ve enjoyed this series of books! Getting to know Bertie and her family and the people of Sweet Meadow! At times I just wanted to slap Bertie and tell her to stop letting people walk all over her, but she comes out smelling like a rose!
This series is hilarious. Bertie is the living embodiment of Murphy's Law. But in life's big ticket areas, she has it all. Trying to fend off Murphy while enjoying the good things in life in town filled with all the characters and eccentrics every small town has, is the trick. Highly recommended.
This book was pretty good. Much better than the first one, and I can't decide if it was better than the second one or not. It had some really sweet moments and there was a wedding! The little girl is adorable!
This was such a fun story. Bertie is running for City Council and trying to throw a wedding and trying to see who is against her being on the council. I just wish there were more books in this series.
