MY HEAAAAAAART😭😭💔 i've always been team taichi and this volume made me so happy and so miserable. taichi is my precious boy and deserves much more than this😭😭😭
Oh my goodness. I've been waiting for this since the first chapter. Yes, Taichi, my guy, wear your heart on your sleeve. Tell her, you love her and then tell her again because you are brave enough. You have grown so, so much.
(Plus, way better confession than Arata's, if I do say so myself)
Holy crap, I don't usually tend to be drawn to male characters, but Taichi is one of my favorite ever in all media. I love him and I am sobbing. He works so hard and sells himself so short and his growth thus far has been incredible to see, I can't wait to see where it goes. What an amazing volume, this series just doesn't stop being great. 5 stars out of 5, 10/10 this series deserves more love.
first review on goodreads and its going to be all about mashima taichi. that sounds about right.
MASSIVE chihayafuru spoilers. (duh it volume 26 my guy)
chihayafuru volume 26. even though this series that STILL doesn't have a physical english serialization (get with the times kodansha), you best bet i have this ENTIRE volume haunting me in every single aspect of my life.
let's start off with chapter 135.
"why is taichi struggling so much? suffering so much? i... i want.... i want him to..... to smile..... i want him to smile."
oh god. just writing that out is actually DESTROYING ME. im crying. im crying as you're reading this section rn.
through another lens, this might just be chihaya wishing her long-time childhood karuta playing friend to cheer up from his recent loss to someone he wanted to desperately surpass. but honestly, to me, this was where suetsugu-sensei started rolling the goddamn freaking wheels. why did chihaya work so hard to make those chocolates? why did chihaya recruit more than 50 goddamn people to host the "taichi cup" for taichi's 18th birthday? why was she so desperately trying to see him smile again, as if her heart broke with him after he lost to arata? why? after all this time?
as someone who is so desperately so stupid for taichi x chihaya, aka, taichihaya (my freaking beloved), i wanted to hold on to something, ANYTHING, in order to save the heart of mine that was falling apart every chapter. and this chapter GAVE that to me.
it tore me to pieces seeing taichi tear up by himself on the train back to tokyo. it tore me to pieces when sumire told taichi to "tell the person you like how you feel! please tell her!" (because at this point i was already beat up from the average chihayafuru experience)
then it was the stupid polka-dot t-shirts (peak chihaya fashion sense). then it was the reward for the winner of the taichi cup being getting a kiss from the birthday boy himself.
but then, it wasn't.
chapter 137.
it was the soft breeze of upcoming spring season flowing ever so carefully in the club room of the club that they both started together. it was taichi telling chihaya that he was the one who stole arata's glasses in order to win against him during their elementary school years. the day he became a coward.
and at that moment, he tells her.
"i've always... always... wanted to be someone who wasn't a coward."
"i'm in love with you, chihaya." 『好きなんだ、千早が。』
please pull the freaking plug. PLEASE put me down.
i actually don't even have the words to describe to you how much this scene broke me. 137 chapters, and those words were finally said.
the words that he's kept so deep inside is heart, i tell you, i didn't even know he could say them. but he did. at that moment. after all these years.
chapter 138. he goes on.
"i love... the fingernails you never grow out... your fingers... your hair.... the mouth you always open wide like an idiot... your face when you laugh... ever since, we were little." 『千早の。。。 伸ばしたこともない、爪が好きだ。指が。。。髪が。。。馬鹿みたいに大きく空く口が。。。笑ってる顔が。。。ずっと、ずっと。。。小さいころから。』
tell me. tell me. why.
w h y .
why were these words chosen, mr. mashima taichi? WHY HURT ME IN THIS MANNER
and yes, i did add the original japanese lines cause miyano mamoru made them hurt EVEN more in the anime and that is how i memorized each word. BECAUSE IT FUCKING HURT ME.
i replay this entire chapter inside of my head. every. single. day.
june 2022. the day i experienced this panel and the day i saw the last light in my life fade away in the distance. and ever since then, i have been a stupid broken record. breaking every piece left of my non-existent sanity, remembering the fragments of this entire volume in my head.
i will literally never forget how much this entire confession changed the trajectory of every single thing i've believed in. this stupid man. THIS STUPID MAN.
who pined for her ALL HIS FUCKING LIFE. who just kept watching from the sidelines, acting like watching her smile whenever she thought about arata didn't hurt him at all.
"but... not everything about you. i don't like who you become when you think about arata."
at this point, my eyes were sore. my eyes were sore from the waterpark falling out of them. he was letting it all out. everything. EVERYTHING. good lord have mercy on us all.
"so chihaya can actually speak in a voice so quiet that it almost gets drowned out by the bell."
"sorry."
yeah, you could just consider my existence null at this point. just don't even think i even exist anymore.
i can't even bring it in me to write about what happens next, so i'll spare you the sappiness and tell you guys that i took a two week break from life after this happened. two years later, and i'm still diagnosed with loving mashima taichi with everything left in the heart he's broken countless and countless of times.
the arguably best written anime character in the entire shoujo/josei industry.
mashima taichi, you changed me. i have never been the same.
nothing will ever compare. nothing in this world could ever be the way you are.
this volume is the reason why chihayafuru is chihayafuru.

I absolutely ship Chihaya with Arata but . . . damn, I feel so bad for Taichi. That kiss . . .
first, the Valentine's Day chocolate fiasco (her dad, seriously) and then Taichi's birthday event - I was laughing so much at all this goofiness, then BANG
nemam gde drugde da zavedem da sam odgledala ovaj anime - ALI jako me nervira što posle 3 sezone sad moram da čitam i mangu jer me zanima dalji character development ovih likova…… ceo sam život stavila na pauzu da odgledam ovo - ipak, let’s take it slow now, one chapter at a time, enjoy the story. jako dobra priča, jako dobri likovi, svaka preporuka!
WOAHHH THE ROMANCE IS KICKING UP!!! Mashima confessed and he quit the club! What is going onnnnn!!?? I will say I was disappointed at first cause they do a match I’ve been waiting to see off screen but the rest of it made up for it. The chocolate making chapter was cute, Mashima cup was funny and the romance at the end!?!? Wow.

Mashima's confession is truly in-depth and heart-warming. He truly loves Chihaya from the bottom of his heart, and for every flaws she has. He loves her as the person she is...Oh my....A wonderful, honest and genuine confession. Truly the deepest form of love.
