The Cocky Kingmans #5

The Jack*ss In Class

Rate this book
He’s the campus king with a no-girlfriends rule.
But he’s about to break it for the most irritating, sassy-mouthed woman he’s ever met.

Flynn Kingman’s senior year plan is simple: class, getting drafted in the first round, and no romantic complications. Until he chases a rogue baby donkey across campus and meets Tempest Navarro—the one woman immune to his charm.

Tempest Navarro is hiding her bestselling romance novels, anxiety, and a baby donkey in her sorority house. Nope, nothing to see here. Especially not for a jock that’s too hot for his own good. Why does he have to be in her Shakespeare class, saying smart things, and driving her insane?

When they’re forced together by a university tutoring program, verbal sparring turns to undeniable attraction. Especially when Tempest’s emotional support donkey, her meddling sisters, and a whole lot of Kingman siblings are all conspiring to push them together at every turn.

This steamy sports romance features a protective football player with hidden depths, a curvy heroine owning her talents and learning to take up space, an emotional support donkey with perfect timing, and that Bridgertons-meets-American-Football family that’ll make you wish you were a Kingman.

This book actually made me mad. I was hyped to read it and ended up so disappointed 💀.

At first, I liked them individually, but the second they got together… it was a disaster. They turned into middle schoolers experiencing their first crush, not two seniors in college. I get it’s their first relationship, but there’s a limit. It got so childish I couldn’t take it.

The quirky vibes? Cute in the beginning, but they got old fast. And him calling her “my queen”? Unless we’re in a fantasy book or his name is Joey Lynch, I don’t ever want to hear that again.

Honestly, maybe it’s the hater in me, but I couldn’t handle how immature they were compared to the other (much more mature) characters in the books. Overall, this just annoyed me the longer I read.

We got another kingsmen!!! It’s Flynn the twin in the family the playboy who only dates girls for 2 weeks.. he has his reasons. Which he speaks on why. But he’s cocky and all that he meets Tempest who doesn’t care for his name or reputation. He’s shocked and interested why she isn’t interested in him. There banter goes back and forth plus he loves that she loves animals and loves the baby donkey he tried to catch. Beside Flynn worrying about where he’s going to go for Pros Tempest is worried about her identity being leaked because she’s a secret author. I love that her bestie had her back making sure no one found out. And I was Glad Flynn didn’t snoop and waited for her to tell him on her own time.

With lovable animals we have the kingsmen family and Tempest family.. now I’ll be honest the mother and few sisters in Tempest family pissed me off I wish Tempest didn’t forgive so easy. Her grandma was a hoot.
We learn why Flynn does his 2 weeks rule and I felt for him. Losing a parent and seeing what his father went though I kinda understand where he’s coming from.
I wonder who’s next.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, secondary charas, drama, sexy time, virgin gal sorts manwhore (not shown just mentioned)

the heroine left me cold, and the insta love just sort of fell flat for me. "I'm having a panic attack because I'm too successful and my mom won't like it" is just ....wildly unrelatable? "no one ever chooses me" when the hero is all over her whenever she goes ..? my disbelief, she is not suspended. I'm really tired of female leads who don't believe in themselves until a man does, which is what happens here, no matter the flimsy feminist overlay.

Overall, 3.5 stars. This was my first book in The Cocky Kingmans series, and it was easy to pick up as a standalone book, I didn't feel like I was missing anything starting in the middle of this series. The part I loved most about this book was Tempest finding her voice and a sense of belonging. I found it to be super relatable, especially of finding comfort and belonging within someone else's family and never feeling good enough for your own. The humor and college shenanigans gave me such a sense of nostalgia. I loved that Flynn ended up being such a gummy bear, he was so sweet and protective. What I didn't like about this book is just a matter of personal preference. The book felt choppy at times and the story just seemed so farfetched.

*Dual POV
*College athlete/Romance author
*Forced proximity
*Family drama
*Found family

Format: audiobook - Vanessa Vasquez and J.F. Harding did a great job!

As usual, this is far from the best book I've read but it certainly wasn't the worst. The worst part about this was the crazy page count when nothing of substance happens in this story. Like, 500 pages and I literally could not tell you anything about these people except Flynn plays football (that we never see except when he's on the bench) and that Tempest is plus sized. I literally know more about the damn donkey.

We didn't need the donkey getting that much screen time tbh!!

The drama was overcooked. No way you want me to feel bad for Tempest when she has a multi million dollar netflix deal and is a repeat best seller of romance books. The shy girl act was foolish. Her family being salty that she writes romance is also foolish like yall are mad that she's a millionaire? REALLY? It was too silly to take serious.

The romance was questionable. Flynn overused the word "queen" and Tempest was a virgin who knew how to throw it back in reverse cowgirl "all from writing romance books". Flynn didn't care that she was a virgin but was also *checks notes* hot from the thought of him being the only man to do this TO her. It's a no from me!

Overall, this book wasn't for me. I knew that before I read it, but the Bad Book Club™️ is called that for a reason. If you love it? I love that for you.

2 stars because it wasn't extremely offensive to listen to. Had i been reading though? Would've been game over. My eyes were glazing over and it was like on 2.5x speed.

The Jack*ss in Class by Amy Award
The Cocky Kingmans series #5. NA sport romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Tempest Navarro is keeping a baby donkey in her sorority house room. He’s for emotional support of course, though he’s not technically allowed in the rooms. When the donkey gets loose at the football field, the Kingman brothers come to the rescue.
Flynn Kingman is happy to help catch the baby donkey and is instantly smitten with Tempest. She’s a little cool with him but he’s willing to sit through study sessions with her for her company. She’s not used to total acceptance given her curves, past experience and family negativity but Flynn is all in. Can he be for real? Is she brave enough to try?

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Vanessa Vasquez and J. F. Harding. Both narrators did an excellent performance making emotions clear and helping the characters come to life.
I listened at 1.5 and slightly higher to better match local conversation speed.

The donkey is amusing. The falling of Flynn is swoon worthy. The draft and Flynn’s thoughts during the event - amazing. His acceptance of her is beautiful. Her book popularity is awesome.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Dreamscape Media.

This book was so quirky and fun, I laughed out loud multiple times. The secret donkey made my entire life! Flynn and Tempest were so cute, I really enjoyed their banter and the growth in their relationship. I love a forced proximity romance especially set in college and this really did it for me. If you’re looking for a fun college romance I definitely recommend!

OMG, THE DONKEY SCENE HAD ME WHEEZING 😭
Okay but seriously, who knew chaos could be so cute? When Burrito Petito (yes, the actual donkey) just trotted into their lives like a matchmaker from hell, I knew I was about to fall in love with this story. And fall, I did. HARD. This book was not just hilarious, it had me kicking my feet, giggling at 2am, then suddenly SOBBING because the way Flynn and Tempest connected? Too real. The tutoring program, the awkward moments, the “wait do I like you?” slow burn tension built so beautifully I could feel it happening even before they admitted it. Flynn being all “no distractions” and then turning into the softest, most protective, most down bad man ever? Yes please.

Flynn + Tempy = Soulmate Era unlocked 💘
Tempest was EVERYTHING. A secret bestselling author? In college? While juggling a chaotic donkey and a clueless boy with NFL dreams? I was in awe. And when Flynn found out her secret and still chose to stand behind her, proud and loud, I knew I’d never recover. Their chemistry was chef's kiss—so much banter, longing looks, and the kind of slow burn that feels like electricity under your skin. The found family vibes, the sorority girls, the sanctuary, even the Shakespeare nerd moments, they made this story feel like a warm hug and a hype song at the same time. Also, the way the book showed body positivity, cultural identity, and quiet bravery? It hit so deep. Tempest’s journey to love herself, and Flynn loving every inch of her before she did, was absolutely beautiful. 5/5 stars and a new favorite couple to obsess over ✨

Thanks to Amy, her publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an advance audio copy of the latest book in The Cocky Kingman series!

I fell in love with this series last year. I love how Amy always gives us a strong, sometimes flawed, plus-size FMC ANDDDD the glorious sexy Kingman men who worship them. There’s always some issue the FMC deals with that is common among plus-size girls. The MMC helps them through the issue in some way. Oh, and there’s ALWAYS a fun animal friend.

I’m always anxiously awaiting the next book in this series because I love how Amy writes. This book was no exception. Our FMC is a spicy romance author that writes under a pen name. Our MMC is a star defense player in the college football team. He is one of the younger Kingman men. He also has a 2 week dating rule. Until her.

I was lucky to listen to the audiobook that was narrated by Vanessa Vasquez and J.F. Harding. Both are veteran narrators that I adore. I’m glad a Latina narrator was selected to narrate the FMC, who was Latina. They both did an excellent job and brought the characters to life!

If you’ve read any of the other books in this series and liked them, don’t hesitate to pick this one up!

Ok this was fun and super easy to listen to. Had a lot of fun with it. Loved Tempest and Flynn. The way the story develops is so funny and the whole donkey situation was extremely hilarious . I do like how Flynn gets vulnerable and growths thru the book. I do enjoy too how Tempest stands up for herself and follow her dreams . Overall easy read and fun.

Big thank you to Amy Award & her team at Love Notes PR for the ARC copy of this book! ✨

Let me start off by saying that Tempest Navarro is my all time favorite character in The Cocky Kingmans series. 10/10. No notes. She means everything to me. Flynn was equally as adorable and I really enjoyed their banter.

This is a cute story, with plenty of animal shenanigans, pure love, and all the emotional family moments. That's what I really enjoyed about this book. It made me laugh and cry and want so much more. Amy is a great author.

I will say that if you're looking for spice, then this isn't the book for that. What used to be pretty open door slowly turned into close door romance which is totally fine, but it's just a weird transition considering how the series started. The spice/smut gets less as the series goes on, so if that's why you're here, then I wouldn't recommend this book in particular FOR THAT REASON.

BUUUTTTTTT - this is an adorable love story about self-acceptance, sisterhood, found family, and truly just finding one's own self. It's cute and sappy in a good way. I can't wait to see what Amy Award writes next. ❤

The Jack*ss In Class🫏

Firstly,I want to thank LoveNotes Pr and Amy Award for trusting me with this ARC 💙
OH.MY.GOD.
This was the most pure & beautiful romance I have read in my entire reading life. So,let's get it from the start:
We follow Tempest Navvaro, a best selling author who no one knows her.Yes,exactly what you read. What will happened when she will get into a tutoring program with the hottest guy on the campus, who, surpisingly, knows everything about literature?
Oh,There is also donkey sitting tangling them up together!
Starting,we have a hillarious rom-com going on.The times I bursted out laughing in this book were uncountable, especially with the donkey and the way it is always messing out around with everyone -yes,they are my new favourite animals from now on 🫏.Accompanied, with those funny scenes was a slow burn romance that was based on books, and books only. They way the fell with each other at the same time, without actually admitting it,when the reader could clearly see it was the cherry on top!Even when those two,got together the love got into in an another planet, they were cutetsy, passionate and so supportive of each other!Plus,I loved that she choose many co-plots as found family, one bed etc, because she made everyone understand how strong where the bonds in Kingman family, something that has a huge impact in understanding the universe & the story itself!
Added,we have a book with full smut scenes, those that they won't leave your head even after days of reading Amy's story.Flynn was THE MAN during these times,he knew how to take care a woman and my girl Tempy was his one✨.
Personally, even though I laughed and fell in love with each page, towards the end I really did found myself crying, because that woman KNOWS how to write about diversity &representation .The way she did not just went through letters, yet made the characters speak for themselves about their fears, struggles something that made it so real to me,that I just couldn't keep my eyes off the pages 💌
5⭐

Detention Worth Taking: My Love for The Jack*ss in Class

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ – A hilarious, spicy, and surprisingly heartfelt ride

I’m obsessed with this series, and The Jack*ss in Class absolutely delivered. Amy Award knows how to mix outrageous humor, swoony romance, and just the right amount of emotional depth. This fifth installment had me laughing out loud, blushing, and rooting hard for the characters.
The dynamic between the heroine and the Kingman brother (aka the “jack*ss”) is pure chaos—in the best way. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry is off the charts, and the tension? Chef’s kiss. I loved how the story balanced the ridiculous (in-class antics, anyone?) with real vulnerability. Beneath the sass and snark, there’s a genuine connection that made my heart melt.
What makes this book stand out is Amy Award’s signature style: bold, body-positive heroines, cocky but lovable athletes, and puns that are so bad they’re brilliant. The classroom setting added a fresh twist, and the slow-burn enemies-to-lovers arc kept me hooked from start to finish.
I gave it 4.5 stars because while I adored the ride, I wanted just a bit more depth in the resolution. But honestly? I devoured it in one sitting and already want to reread it.
If you love rom-coms that are spicy, smart, and unapologetically fun—this one’s a must.

Thank you to Amy Award and Love Notes PR for the ARC of The Jack*ss in Class. I’m so grateful to have had the chance to read this early—this book was an absolute blast! 💖

A couple that studies Shakespeare together stays together!!

I love how Amy continues to find a way to make me fall deeper in love with the Kingman family. Tempest and Flynn’s story was perfect soothed my little theater obsessed heart. As a girlie who went through a bit of a Shakespeare phase in high school this story felt very much like one of his…except with less murder and more donkeys

Tempest was perfect as the introverted sorority girl with a (not so) dark secret. I could relate to her complicated relationship with her family and the need she had to make them proud while still wanting to pursue something that made her happy. She’s the kind of writer I want to be one day and to see her take control of her career and her confidence was inspiring

Of all the Kingman brothers I never expected Flynn to be the intellectual one. But I guess a major point in this book (and series) is subverting the expectations that society puts on you. He was a very male lead and you could tell that his personality spanned far wider than the football field he plays on! And as always the familial connection of the Kingman family manages to perfectly connects each story and its characters together, long after they’ve ended.

I felt like the story was very easy to follow and leaned more towards Tempest’s journey of self-confidence. Flynn’s story was about accepting love into your heart, but Tempest had to learn to accept herself even at the cost of her family. It would’ve been easy to make her parents and older sisters the villains and have Tempest cut them off but what happened instead was much more realistic to a lot of people.

Speaking from experience as a Hispanic woman, family is super important to us and we tend to forgive a lot more than we should just to keep the peace. But there comes a point where you have to put your foot down and demand respect. A lot of times you’ll realize that the issues your parents passed on to you came from similar experiences they had, causing generational trauma. Luckily the Navarros were able to see the light and start to forge a better path!

The central idea of family and acceptance made me feel warm and happy while reading this book and in all the murkiness of Tempest’s struggles it was nice to revisit the Kingmans and get a dose of wholesomeness.

I recommend this book to anyone that needs that wholesomeness or maybe just needs a little confidence boost and a reminder that they can take up all the space they need!

I adore all the Kingman brothers, and Flynn is no exception. His story kicks off by chasing a runaway baby donkey across campus, which leads him straight to Tempest. Though he's known for being a charming playboy who avoids commitment, their connection is undeniable. When a tutoring program and a shared class throw them together, sparks start to fly. Flynn surprises Tempest by revealing a deeper, more caring side, especially when she needs it most. The chemistry, humor, and heartfelt moments shine, and narrators J.F. Harding and Vanessa Vasquez bring it all to life beautifully. A perfect addition to the Kingman brothers series and a fun listen!

Honestly I enjoyed this book more than I thought. Amy award books are so cheesy but are meant to make u feel good. Sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I have read the previous books but never really connected with characters until this one. The fmc is a plus size Latina and I lived for that. I related to her and her family so much. I love how Flynn wasn’t so overbearing. He left tempest fight her own battles but would step in if she needed it.

rescue yourself."

My thoughts: 🔖Page 78 of 466 HOT FOR TUTOR ~ FLYNN - This is going to be a really long slow book, but I'm committed to finishing this series. It's like there is so much going on but no real plot.
🔖194 A PRAYER TO SAINT WHOSIEWHATSIE ~ TEMPEST - This story is past ridonkulus but I have gone too far to stop now. I am struggling with whether I'm going to read the goat book or not.
🔖388 THIS ABOVE ALL ~ TEMPEST - This story should have been over a 100 pages but I'm going to see where this is dragging to, the love story is over but we have a second storyline to finish.

I am still on the fence on whether or not I will continue with this series and I think I always say that at the end of each book but the covers are so cute I talk myself into reading. This book was way too cheesy, I know the author tells you it's gonna be a fluffy Reed in the beginning but I don't care, So many parts of it did not make any sense and I had to give it 3 and a half stars because I was very disappointed with the consequences for the character that did her wrong, like that made no sense and it's unrealistic, you can't dropout of school on the behalf of somebody else without their permission and against their will. There are so many storylines in this story that just didn't fit for me the only storyline I was into was the female MC's authorship. FYI the Spice was toned down compared to previous books.

Recommend to others: Maybe but not likely since half of the people I recommend this series to don't like it.

Memorable Quotes: AbuelaNovela never just arrived anywhere. She made an entrance. “Mi Tempestina!” She threw her arms wide, her array of gold bangles jingling like wind chimes. “Abuela,” I whispered, relief washing over me as I crossed the room into her embrace. The familiar scent of her perfume enveloped me, a comfort I hadn’t known I desperately needed until this moment.

The Jackss in Class* — Amy Award

Okay, here we go… another book in the Kingman Brothers series. I read this series back in either February or March, and now here’s another one. I went in hoping there’d be no fuckboy business or other-woman drama — and thankfully, just like the previous books, it stayed clean.

Tempest Navarro has parents who push her toward “respectable” success — law school, the family’s idea of prestige. Under a pen name, she’s actually a bestselling romance author. She writes a Shakespeare-inspired romance that her parents openly criticize, not realizing it’s hers.

The first time Flynn Kingman really gets under her skin? She’s reading smut in class, he’s sitting behind her, and when she turns the e-book page, he leans in and whispers in her ear: “I wasn’t done with that page.” The nerve.

Tempest is also hiding an emotional support donkey in her sorority house after a flood at the animal sanctuary. Her sisters help her keep it secret. Flynn, the notorious “two-weeks-then-done” guy, suddenly wants to pursue her — mostly because she’s the one woman resisting him. And yeah, there are women throwing themselves at him, but he turns them down.

He invites her to a party while he’s the designated driver. At one point, he leaves to take Sasha home because he’s DD for everyone. While he’s gone, Tempest starts drinking, gets adorably chaotic, and ends up teaching all the football guys Spanish insults about Flynn. He comes back looking for her, takes her home safely, and earns major points.

Her actual siblings are hilarious, and I loved the family dynamics. She meets his family, he meets hers, and he stands up for her without hesitation. He’s her first kiss — and yeah, it’s swoony.

When Flynn’s football drills are televised, Tempest is at home with her sorority sisters in “Team Flynn” shirts, watching him on TV. The camera zooms in on him, and he makes a gesture just for her.

They both head to LA for Spring Break. An earthquake strands them in a one-bed B&B — cue her losing her virginity to him, and also confessing that she’s the author behind the romance novels now being scouted for a TV series.

Then, of course, the drama hits. Someone leaks her identity. She has a panic attack in the bathroom, and Flynn is there, grounding her. Her family’s reaction is messy: her father supportive, her grandmother thrilled, two sisters supportive, the rest judgmental — especially her mother. And the leak? Her own sister Rosalind, trying to protect her future political career by shaming Tempest’s “smut-writing.”

The confrontation is satisfying. Her grandmother lays into the family, and things finally get resolved. What I especially loved was that Tempest never pushed Flynn away when things got rough — she leaned on him. They work through it together, and the book closes on a solid HEA.

✔ Plus-size Latina heroine with a secret powerhouse career
✔ Banter that balances spice and comedy (the Shakespeare class moments were gold)
✔ A hero who openly praises, protects, and supports without ego
✔ Found family energy from both the Kingmans and the sorority sisters
✔ Open-door steam that fits the emotional beats
✔No breakup-for-drama — they face the climax together

❌️Dislikes❌️
✘ Flynn’s “two-week rule” gets repeated a bit too often before it’s dropped
✘ Minor side-character moments of fatphobia and family judgment can be frustrating
✘ Sister Rosalind’s betrayal is wrapped up a little too neatly after such a hurtful reveal
✘ Some pacing drag in the late-game family resolution scenes

Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading and it has easily moved up to my favorite of the series. “The Jack*ss in Class” is a swoony, heartfelt and laugh out loud college football rom-com that was a fantastic addition to the series.

It’s senior year for Flynn Kingman and the focus is on the NFL Columbine and being drafted. He also dates but has a strict two week rule to make sure he stays focused. But thanks to a rogue donkey at a pep rally, he meets Tempest Navarro. Tempest is a senior as well and while getting her degree, being a part of a sorority and writing her best selling romance novels under a fake name. The two are opposites but are forced to hang out when they are paired up in a university tutoring program. As they spend time together, it’s clear that they are compatible and feelings start to develop.

The Kingmans are forces to be reckoned with and each one has been so much fun to read about it. Flynn has all the confidence, intelligence and is such a genuine guy. He has all the confidence on the outside and backs it up when he supports someone he cares about. Tempest is such a wonderful woman and I loved how she was going to college for a degree she wanted vs what her mother wanted. She’s a big animal lover so volunteering at a sanctuary and befriending a donkey who likes to cause a little bit of chaos. It made me so happy she was a romance author and so successful while in college. Flynn and Tempest had great banter and they had me laughing out loud more than once. They might have been forced together in the beginning but the chemistry they had was undeniable. I loved that Flynn had fallen for her first and realized that he could have it all, thanks to a good pep talk from his Dad. And when he found her secret, he was her biggest supporter and had her back when she needed it most. As always, I loved the plus sized reputation and the confidence Tempest found during this story. The ending was so perfect for them and I loved the possible hint we got for the next book in the series.

This has been my favorite Kingmans story yet. I absolutely adored Tempy and Flynn; they were so dang sweet together. And I really loved her character development as she learned to let her secret author side in the light, even more so when she handled the third act with confidence and strength.

The audio was great. JF Harding and Vanessa Vasquez were both fantastic. They brought these characters to life so wonderfully and I really enjoyed this listen. Thank you so much RB Media for the advanced copy!

I love all of the Cocky Kingmans books!! This book quite literally hit me in the feels. There was love, betrayal, family, joy and a lot of self discovery all present here.

Flynn and Tempest are perfectly matched and Burrito Petito is a little sweetheart. I love the genuine friendships shown and was definitely surprised at one point. Overall the range of emotions in this book are on point!

I highly recommend reading TJIC! I am already looking forward to The Goat In The Bedroom. Woohoo!!

This one was kinda mid. I didn’t go in with big expectations (and good thing I didn’t). At this point all the Kingmen brothers are basically the same dude in different fonts — football, trauma, fall in love after three days, move in after five, marry after twelve. Copy, paste, repeat.

The plot had a few twists I didn’t see coming, so that was fun, but still… not enough stuff happening. The characters felt flat, the spice didn’t hit, and a couple moments were just straight-up cringe.

Not terrible, just not great either. Definitely not my fave in the series.
