The Osseous Chronicles #2

Sorcière de Sang

Rate this book
Tu me trahis une fois ? Honte à toi. Mais la deuxième fois… je réduirai tes os en poussière.
Je m'appelle Lennox Osseous, et je suis prête à déclencher ma colère.

Ivy Asher is addicted to chai, swearing, and laughing a lot (but not in a creepy, laughing alone kind of way). She loves the snow, books, and her family of two humans, and three fur-babies. She has worlds and characters just floating around in her head, and she's lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people who support that kind of crazy.

I was 100% on Leni's side through most of the book. She hated Rogan for taking her consent away, kidnapping, and drugging her. I read 140+ pages of her constantly ranting about him. She even goes so far as to kill him in a vision? Very graphically I might add. Then after reading all of this hate, out of nowhere she is telling Rogan that he has to give her "five orgasms" and they start to get hot and heavy. This dude did not even grovel. He did nothing to redeem himself and Leni is jumping his bones?? What. At which point I noped out. I love Ivy Asher's other series but The Osseous Chronicles is no longer one for me.

Arrrggghhh garble garble.

I soent like 70% of this book hating Hulk Hogan and then the other 30% wanting him and Leni to bone T_T

Then I spent like 90% of the book wanting her and Saxon to smash cuz hes like, my love. Seriously, my ovaries love all these dudes and wantsnall the dick. But obviousl Hogan and Leni are endgame and by the end of this book Im cool with that even though hes a treacherous snake who deserves to get drop kicked in the balls and dick so hard until his sperm shoots out his throat.

Lesss talk about Elon. My sweet baby boi.

Hes a gem, we must protect him at all costs.

I wanna tit punch Leni for not using blood magic sooner until the end. I wouldve twisted everything in my power to get outta that cage.

Anyway, this book was amazing and hilarious and excitinf. My favorite line was "sometimes they were the poison not the antidote" and I died with this whole book.

Please gimme book 3 now 🤣🤣🤣

I loved this sequel even more than the first book! The Blood Witch added a lot of new layers to the story, one of the best developments in this sequel is how we get to explore Leni's powers even more (her reading for Colby was one of my favorite scenes).

Ivy Asher was able to add a lot of depth and heartfelt emotion in this sequel. This complemented the series perfectly since the first book is very action packed, funny and sarcastic while the second book is more profound with a dark and chilling atmosphere and heart-breaking scenes. Blood Witch delivers a truly blood-curdling maniac villain that had me biting my nails.

Book 1 spoilers below! You have been warned ***

I was not expecting the ending at all! It took me completely by surprise and now I cannot wait to get my hands on Bound Witch.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review!

Wow! Another great book in the Osseous Chronicles. This book no way suffers from being the middle of the trilogy! Leni learns much more about her magic and has some pretty traumatic experiences. We also learn more about Rohan’s brother. Really looking forward to reading the last in this series- pure brain candy!

Maybe I would’ve liked this book. Maybe I would have enjoyed reading it. But I didn’t and don’t and now I’m about to have a rage fit.

ROGAN, that festering sore of a traitor!

Lennox is way too weak in the knees (for Rogan) and it is NOT CUTE! Nothing that anyone says will excuse him for what he’s done. Leni is a foolish bitch for pining after Rogan when she knows he will betray her again - he flat out told her he would do it! How many times does he have to betray a bitch before she gets smart and takes a hint?

AND THEN Lennox turns down a hot werewolf because she lurrrvvvves dirty ol’ Rogan... sooo, yeah. I’m still mad and this situation is not kosher.

I almost DNF’d the book when I realized Rogan is an unrepentant ass and Lennox is a walking vagina. BUUUT I ended up finishing it (...because stuff) and I will read the next book...only because the way it ended though! Stupid cliffhangers.

Side note: I was slightly less mad at Rogan by the end of the book. But I still don’t want her in a relationship with him. There is literally no way in hell that she will ever be able to trust him after everything.

I was so lucky to get the ARC ebook copy for an honest review because I have discovered a series that I truly enjoy and probably wouldn’t have found. In order to give this a true review, I had to read the first installment and this. I loved the first installment so much, but this second installment took a turn I NEVER expected. It was brutal, emotional, and threw me in such a loop.

Lennox, the main character is such an amazing character and in this book she was EVEN more amazing. I mean she could be a little too trusting of people in a world that she didn’t really understand and I thought she didn’t show enough willpower when it came to Rogan. However, that girl NEVER gave up and she put out some major courage and that I could only hope to possess. Ugh she is such a sweet soul and I just love her so.

So regarding her love interest.... I DON’T WANT HIM, AT ALL!!!!! This boy has this whole broody, deep, and stupid prideful behavior and I am just not digging it. I mean that type of man is so old and tired and I thought we were done with that kind of man. GO HOME ROGAN AND LISTEN TO SOME COLDPLAY AND LEAVE MY GIRL ALONE! I honestly think Prek would be a much better love interest for her because he is so much more interesting and downright sexier than this fool. I wish my girl, Lennox, would just make better choices.

Although the romance in this book for me is lacking, the villain that this author created was GREAT! I found her to be extremely interesting and just downright crazy. It honestly made the book really interesting to me and I found it so fun to read about this certifiably insane piece of work.

The only thing I didn’t really enjoy about this book was I found the plot to be a little slow. I felt like the story dragged just a little bit too much for me. We seemed to be stuck in the same place for a little too long and I just got a wee bit bored there for a minute. However, when it picked up, I was so back in and devouring the book like chocolate cake.

The ending of this installment really threw me and left me with SO MANY QUESTIONS! Lennox's decision to do what she did (sorry not sorry, you will find no spoilers here) broke my heart into a million pieces and it killed me. June honestly cannot come soon enough and it makes me feel like a toddler with a tantrum waiting for it.

At this point, the Osseous Chronicles has become one of my comfort reads.

THE BLOOD WITCH takes off right after the events of The Bone Witch, and I found it in the elements that I’d already grown to love in its predecessor. Lennox isn’t just one of the funniest protagonists I’ve ever read about, but her reactions to the events happening around her are so easy to relate to, and it makes the entire story far more realistic, despite the fantastical elements within it. I loved that we got to meet a new set of interesting characters, even though I selfishly missed the presence of some secondary characters that only made cameo appearances in this one.

The author more than makes up for it with the world-building, which expanded a little bit more to better incorporate the intricacies of the witch community, and with the engaging plot. The mystery from The Bone Witch thickens in this installment, with moments that had me at the edge of the proverbial seat and a pacing which was, as always, thrilling and fast paced throughout and high stakes at the ending. Did I shed a few tears? I definitely did.

I missed a bit of the romantic element compared to the first book, but after the events of The Bone Witch, it couldn’t be helped. I do have a feeling that the next installment will more than make up for it, because things are happening that have my full and undivided attention!

Thank you again to the author for gifting me a copy of the book to review. All opinions are my own.

1 MILLION STARS. YOU GUYS!!!! Oh my god--holy guacamole. This has been my favorite read of the year so far.

After having super mixed feelings about book 1 in this series, I almost didn't pick this book up to continue. Let me tell you, I am SO HAPPY that I did. This book is leaps and bounds better than the 1st book, and it fixed everything that I didn't like in the 1st book. I was legit on the edge of my seat for the last 40% of this book--it was really fucking good.

This book is a lot less romance-focused than the first book. The Blood Witch is much more focused on the action/mystery, and it made it so much better. I usually love the romance parts in these books, but the action in this book was SO DAMN GOOD. I couldn't get enough. The villain is actually freaking psychotic--like a literal crazy unpredictable psychopath. I had no idea what the villain was going to do next. My heart broke for all of the people she tortured, but she was so evil, it was addicting to read. The ending is HEARTBREAKING and that cliffhanger has me literally shaking while running to get the next book. I also think Lennox is A LOT more likable in this book--I loved her friendship with Elon.

This series is SO WORTH IT, if only to get to this book. Book 1 is fine, a bit underwhelming tbh, but this book is freaking amazing. Highly recommend!! One of my favorite fantasy romance books I've read.

Ahhh somebody give me book 3 asap! What...it releases at the end of August? *screams*

My, just when I thought I couldn't love this series any more than I already did, Ivy Asher threw this book at me and proved me wrong. The Blood Witch is the perfect sequel to The Bone Witch . It turned up the angst and longing, it gave us an intriguing peek at the important players in witch politics, it moved forward with the investigation and it completely smothered my soul with those final chapters!

My love for Lennox and Rogan is renewed tenfold. Lennox is such a badass and compassionate woman. I admire her bravery. She stands up for what's right and would go down swinging before admitting defeat. Definitely confirmed her spot as one of my new favorite female characters. And Rogan...I love him, okay? I love Rogan Kendrick! He deserves love. There's also another Kendrick that deserves some loving but I will shut up about that because everyone needs to read these books without a hint of spoilers to ruin it for them.

I am so excited for the next book. And when I say excited I mean I wish I had it in my hands immediately so I could binge! I need answers and I need things to happen.

Thank you again to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this and sending me a copy. Opinions are my own!

Luckily for us, the second book picks up right where the first one leaves off. After the epic betrayal, Leni finds herself knee deep in the Order. Struggling to know who to trust and why she's being hunted, Leni pushes Rogan away while protecting herself and her heart.

I'll be honest, I was PISSED at Rogan. After all they went through in the first book together, he went and did that? I get it, his brother is missing. But at least communicate your plans or strategize with the one person who is helping you with it all. It's almost as if his entire personality changed in between the two books.

But while I was super annoyed with Rogan, I really liked the direction this book went. Ever since hearing the secret Rogan and his brother shared, I couldn't help but wonder how this would affect his tethering with Leni. But was 100% not expecting it to go the way it did.

The entire part of Leni in captivity was INSANE. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how she was going to get out of this alive and with Rogan's brother. I'm super excited to read the conclusion and still very happy that I found this series.

“He told me that he was pulled into my orbit, but really I think the opposite is true.”

5 stars:

WOWWWW I love this book so much. I wish that Lennox was a real person because I’d want to be her best friend. She’s hilarious, smart, and so normal! Even though she’s one of the most powerful bone witches…Also Rogan is the perfect blend of dark, broody, and sensitive and I just love him.

This book also introduced me to one of the BEST villains I’ve ever read. We only really spend the last 1/3 of the book with her but OMG. She is TERRIFYING. Like move over SJ Maas villains, there’s a new evil psycho in town. I found myself anticipating her scenes because I was so anxious and scared about what she was going to do. Pure evil, guys. Such a good villain.

Am I actually dying while I wait for book 3? Probably. I’m going to binge read it the day it comes out because I’m gonna need some answers and some…other things 👀

Thanks so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

* You need to read the previous book to understand the story in this entry, there is no recap.

After being stuck in the neck with a tranquilizer and being knocked out, Lennox finds herself in the headquarters of the order. Knowing Rogan betrayed her and she is on her own, Lennox tries to keep solving the mystery of the other missing osteomancers. But even though they say she is free, Lennox is locked up and every move could mean death or serious injury. But then the kidnapper makes his move to get Lennox and everything will become very clear to her.

Pro's:
+ Another high-paced story and I have to say, the underlying story is really strong and very powerful. Love the world of these witches and the way their powers are different and strong in their own way.
+ This story stays in one perspective and I think that helps this story a lot. Rogan stays a bit elusive and an asshole, which helps us a lot to see the world through Lennox's eyes. It makes the whole story easier to follow.

Con's:
- At a certain point in the book, you as the reader can see the solution to a certain problem and then it takes a couple more chapters for Lennox to reach the same conclusion. It was a bit frustating, mostly since she did it before without knowing.

This was a fun read, which follows directly in the footsteps of the first book. No recap, just jumping you straight back into the story. It was really fast-paced and sometimes, you think the time passed has been longer, but the author does a good job of keeping you on track of the timeline. It was also fun, Lennox is still as quippy as she was in the first book and with an ending like this book I cannot wait to jump into the next entry really, really soon.

Okay who gave Ms. Asher the right to make my cry like that at 11 O’clock at night?? Seriously I don’t ever remember tearing up like I did for this book for any other book in a long time. The ending was absolutely immaculate. But I also hate her a little bit because now I have to wait for book 3 in order to figure out what is gonna happen next because shit hit the fan.

Although this book did not have as much continual action as book one had, it was perfectly spaced and timed. I feel like book one really set up this world and the characters, where is book to continue to develop those characters and thick and the plot even more. As any good book 2 should do.

Lennox is probably one of my favorite female leads. She’s badass, funny, witty, and resourceful. She doesn’t typically act first and think of repercussions later. She lays it all out on the table and doesn’t hold back. She’s selfish, willing to sacrifice herself for others.

I have so many questions now that I finished the book. Like I need three right now so hopefully they’ll all be answered. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in search of a good witchy read!

Ok I want to start of by saying I love this series, it’s seriously one of my favourites right now, but I can’t help but feel book one and two are just the same book split into two parts. It really pains me to rate this book 4 and not 5 stars, but if I’m honest I’m annoyed that it wasn’t just released as one book. Anyway, regardless of my frustration, I am looking forward to the next book of this series! :)

Rogan is still an asshole, Lennox thinks too much with her vagina, the plot started pretty boring but got interesting in the last quarter and the finale was grabbing enough to make me want to read the final book of this series (sigh).

I read the omnibus of this as I have a pretty special edition that I picked up at Rare so I'm reviewing this one as a complete whole. For the most part, I found this an enjoyable read. I'm a huge fan of Order of Scorpions so I was expecting to be all over this as much as I was that one. Unfortunately, this just wasn't in the same hemisphere for me, to be fair to this book though it wasn't the writing, more the writing style. This had a jokey slapstick vibe and Order of Scorpions just read darker and much grittier. So this is more than likely predominantly a me thing.

This follows the journey of newly initiated witch Lennox after she inherits the mantle of Bone witch after the demise of her grandmother. Rather than being born with magic, her line inherits it upon the death of the current Osteomancer and the magic itself crosses over to their successor. Leni never expected to be chosen and this event changes everything for her.

Pulled back into a world she purposely distanced herself from Leni is shockingly ignorant of the politics and internal intricacies. When a gorgeous blood witch turns up at her late grandmother's shop asking for assistance she's dragged headfirst into the mystery of missing witches and when Leni then accidentally tethers them together it makes for a very rocky start.

This is all told from Leni's POV and there's a whole lot of slapstick humour and innuendos thrown around mixed in with all of the danger. I did find myself laughing aloud several times but there were instances where it could get a bit too much. There were also some definite deep moments i just think it was overshadowed somewhat by all of the included humour.I liked Leni a lot she was quite the character, I also found Rogan appealing he was a lot more beta than I usually go for but he was likeable. I did find some of the cutesy PDA used here to be quite cringe but again that's going to be down to personal taste.

Overall though I enjoyed this it isn't one I'd probably re-read but it had a decent strong storyline and it did manage to keep my attention. My favourite part of this was probably the final resolution I appreciated the way this was all wrapped up and vengeful Leni was delicious to behold. In conclusion, this probably rounded out at a 3.5 star read for me some parts shone more than others and were stronger mainly the emotional cliffhangers and the finish which I found strong.

Wtf- the ending? All missing stars due to cliffhanger

Ok fine. I’ll buy the third book. I won’t buy anymore from this author before. I have a serious hate for the cliffhanger ending and this one was a Mt Everest sized cliffhanger. Spoiler alert- the “escape” had been telegraphed so far in advance that I was tired of asking for her to try the blood magic - what other reason was there for the tether? The ending was just a visit from the drama llama without a need other than the authors laziness or self doubt about trying to write books that people will read without a cliffhanger ending. This isn’t General Hospital or Batman. I do t want to “tune in tomorrow, “ next month or a year from now to have a plot line finished. Learn to write a book with an ending but a promise of things undone. Finish your story arc within a book while allowing for a future story line to continue. You are better than this and have the ability and talent to keep people interested in your writing without resorting to tawdry tricks and manipulation.

“Lesson learned, always hop on that dick first, ask questions second.”

Lennox continues to be the star of the show. She could run her own standup comedy show, and I’d attend every night. If you were hoping that the heat between Leni and Rogan would finally come to fruition in this book, I’m sorry to share that you’re going to have to wait a little longer (Ivy Asher is really making us work for this one).

A few jewels we discover in this book:
✨ What happened to baby bro
✨ Who has been kidnapping bone witches
✨ Why is Rogan such a grump
✨ Who the heck thought it would be a good idea to involve demons in this mess

It’s a wild, torturous ride, and the story ends on a cliffhanger that will make you want to immediately download book 3.

OKAY. WOW.

I blasted through that in one sitting it was so good. This book was way better than the first. It made me laugh, cry and cringe. I absolutely loved it. And the ending... Ohhh baby, was that emotional. I don't even know what to say. Rogan by the end was pulling my heartstrings and the spice gets somewhat hotter but ultimately the slow burn is real. And the massive 🐓 block the author throws our way is just plain rude but so good. Read this series, you won't be disappointed.

This series is great for binging! There are cliffhangers at the end of each book and all of it happens in short amount of time.

I liked second book even more than the first one! I was a little confused at the beginning but I got right into it after my confusion parted. I really like how Lennox does readings. These moments are always one of my favourites (in both books). And we finally got to meet Elon!

the plot is interesting, the characters complex and the pacing fast

and that ending made me click on the buy button of book 3 right away!
