The Algorithm

Rate this book
In the near future, America faces gridlock, disinformation, and a public too exhausted to care. A populist president, backed by a pliable Congress, turns to a large language model called AIDE—Artificial Intelligence Decision Enhancement—to streamline governance. At first, AIDE writes laws. Then it replaces the lawmakers. Then the judges. Then the truth.

As democracy fades behind screens and silence, Maggie Smith—a former congressional aide turned invisible resistor—watches a nation choose convenience over freedom. When she uncovers a buried message left by the only person she ever trusted, Maggie realizes she has one card left to unpredictability.

The Algorithm is a tightly woven political dystopia about surveillance, memory, and what happens when governing becomes a system too perfect for humans to belong to. For readers of The Power, The Every, and 1984, this haunting debut explores how quickly freedom can be coded out—and what’s required to remember it back into being.
