Spanish Islam is acclaimed for its sourcing from original sources, arabic and Christian. The narrative begin from general description of arabian culture in conjunction with taste for refined verses of the arabic poets, whom writer has hugely drawn and ornamented his elegant prose. The writing style depicts 18th century, neither much superfluous. The arab history has its own dilemma of centuries born rivalry between maadite and Yemenis tribes, the former sons of Ishmael while later stock of greater kahtan of Old testament.
Besides, tales of bloodshed caused by each side, incurred on each other, the rivalry of these tribes, caused check to the moorish advances.
After that, Ommayads enter the stage with Abdu rehman I (عبدالرحمن الداخل) and successfully carry one the legacy, producing some great leaders like Abdu Rehman III and Al Hukum. The two rulers follows a period of prosperity and educational and cultural renaissance which is a bit devastated by Ibn Amir ( albeit he also patronised some).
With all the prejudices of the author where sometimes he seems to much faithful to historical narrative while in times his pen slips and he wrote some lines favouring reconquesta.
His source usage is the best although he has to dramatise narrative in times so that pace of the story is least effected.
