After I Fall

Rate this book
When EmLynn’s dad loses his battle with cancer, the last thing she wants is to move across the country to live with her mom. Her mom left her dad years ago to start a new, improved family with her new, improved husband.

When Eric finds himself in the middle of a mess of someone else’s making, the last thing he wants is to be dumped into the foster care system. He’s spent most of his life on his own, so he doesn't see the point of having a pretend family now.

A chance meeting leaves them both thinking that maybe their new town of Roseville isn’t so bad. But as they grow closer, a mutual enemy, along with a tangle of secrets and a web of little white lies, may just be enough to make their new found love unravel completely.

I have always enjoyed the books I've read by Hope. AFTER I FALL is no different. It starts out with us getting to know EmLynn and her past. And then there is the little bit we learn of Eric and his. He is more closed up about his past and EmLynn is fine with that. She enjoys her time with him and has no reason not to trust him. Until she can't. Life shows up front and center and EmLynn is forced to face the facts. Maybe she doesn't know him at all. Maybe it is time to close that door and move on.

While I loved this story...it wasn't the emotional roller coaster I have been on before with Hope's other books. And truthfully, it was exactly what I needed right now. I didn't need a book that would give me an emotional beating or have me in a fit of tears. I needed a book exactly like this one that would have be happy and content in all the right places or would have me feeling some feels at just the perfect time. And it did. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter, more fantastic read.

I adored these characters. Hope gave us some genuine characters that readers could relate to. That is one thing I love about this author. She takes some of her characters and gives them a background that a lot of readers could relate to and doesn't sugarcoat them. Because in real life, teenagers don't lead sugarcoated lives, do they?

AFTER I FALL was a wonderful read I blew through. I loved the plot, the characters and especially the sweet romance. As always, I would suggest anything this author writes. 5 Read This Book Stars!

I don't read too much YA anymore, but I enjoyed this one. I appreciate the fact that most of the characters are pretty normal teenagers. No manwhores with 6-pack abs, no insanely beautiful girls, no painfully awkward virgins. They just seemed like fairly normal teens. The angst, while not absent, was not over the top. The story felt believable.

Em was really sweet. She had some issues with her mother and stepfather, but considering how her parents divorced and the fact that she had lost her father to cancer, it felt like her issues were valid. When she meets Eric, they flirt a little at first, then get to know each other before jumping right into dating. Eric is hiding some big secrets, but he's had a lot to overcome, so it's pretty understandable.

I think Em overreacted a bit to Eric hiding his past, in his shoes I'd do the same thing. But I'm glad it didn't drag out over the course of the whole book and become an overly-angsty mess.

Em's mom redeemed herself in the end, but she was really awful for much of the book. I found myself struggling to see what Phillip saw in her. Phillip seemed like a really good guy, I liked him. Em's slowly learning to trust him felt authentic.

I love Everything that is written by the author! Her writing is flawless and she knows how to weave a beautiful story that sucks you in from the first page and keeps you hooked till the last page! I wasn't ready for it to be finished though!!! I want MORE!!!!
A lot of indie pub books arent the greatest but Amity's are amount my favorite. Between the writing and realistic dialogue and intriguing story lines you cannot go wrong with ANY of her books, ESPECIALLY this one!!!

If you're in the mood for a low-angst, cutesy YA romance, then this is your book!

I had no idea this would be about high school students but both EmLynn and Eric were likable and adorable together. Em's little sisters were pretty cute as well.

A little too adolescent and predictable for my taste. I didn't like the characters, the dialogue was dull and the plot entirely too easy to guess.

I prefer a little more complexity in books- this fell very short of my expectations.

This is the 4 the book I have read by this author and I think I'm done. I just don't care for her writing style- it's oversimplified.

A nice, but nothing special, YA book. Probably would have been much better if I hadn't read a million other similar books.

This was a very interesting story.  The relationship between Eric and EmLynn was fun to watch.  Jace was the perfect mean boy.  Eric's insecurity was touching.  And there was a fun side-story about EmLynn's friend Clara.

There were a number of conflicts in the story.  Eric's past (that he refused to talk about), the mean kids at school, the foster parent situation, EmLynn's relationship with her parents, etc.  They were all developed well, and though I did realize what was going on with the situation with the house (don't want to give anything away!), it was handled well and written in an interesting way.

I did not like the way that Eric snuck into EmLynn's room at night, and though the story was clean, there was way too much touching and intimacy going on.  I would not want my middle school or high school thinking those things are acceptable or normal by any stretch of the imagination.

Excellent read!

I was graciously gifted a copy for an honest review.

This is not my normal genre to read and while I enjoy YA, it's not normally my first pick for a book but Amity Hope is an author I will make an exception for. I have read Twisted and really enjoyed the writing so go enjoy the chance to read this, it was a no brainer.

I was not expecting to be instantly hooked and could not put the book down! I started it this morning and in between things today just finished. The characters are well crafted, the story very entertaining and I admit, I am a sucker for this story line, the mystery guy, the bad guy and a parent we all hate but redeems themselves.

I will definitely be looking back at my Amity Hope purchases (there are a few I found in my TBR pile) and reading them. I think I have a new auto buy author to add to my list. :)

After I Fall is a book about a girl, EmLynn and a boy, Eric. EmLynn has just lost her father to cancer and is now living with her mother, her step father and her step sisters, twins of five years, Madison and Natalie. Eric has just moved to the same town and is a foster care child.

When the two meet at a country club, he is working and she is watching the twins, there is an interest sparked between them. Another member of the club, Jace, seems to always be around and seems to be interested in EmLynn. It goes through months of them dating, Jace having altercations with one or both of them, EmLynn trying to find her footing in the family and Eric adjusting to his new life and family. It is a cute read, you can almost see the plot and where it is going when you start reading, but a good story. There were no big plot twists. 3 stars

She is a really good writer. She sucks you right into the emotional entanglement of the characters. You love the characters your supposed to and love/hate the ones your supposed to. A sweet love story and coming I to one's feelings as a young adult. It did have mind swearing in it. I personally would not allow a boy in my girls room, knowing or unknowing. Other than that is was clean and really good.

This was a pretty good book. It didn't really hold my attention though.. I ended up reading a few books in between reading this book. This was a pretty light/fluffy read.

3.5 stars Not as good as some of her other books, but still an engaging fun read.
