Kissing Potions and Elves: A Cozy Fantasy Romance

Rate this book
I've been hopelessly in love with Lyrion—the aloof, devastatingly handsome Elf lord—for months. Not that he's ever noticed me. Until the night I accidentally brew him the wrong potion, and suddenly he's noticing me far more than I ever bargained for.

Now we're magically bound together by a potion that draws us irresistibly close and punishes us if we drift apart. As magic keeps pulling us back together, forcing me to stay in his elegant manor until we find a cure, I discover unexpected warmth beneath Lyrion’s cold glances and noble manners.

But as my feelings deepen, I worry what will happen when the potion finally wears off. I'm already falling hard for the broody Elf lord, but we're from entirely different worlds—he’s a High Elf, and I’m human. When the magic fades, will I be left with nothing but a broken heart, or could this enchantment lead us to something truly real?

This is a cozy fantasy romance brimming with humor, heart, and a magical happily-ever-after.

**Spicy content. Not a dark romance.***

**This is a standalone romance set in the same world as my Once Upon a Fairy Tale Romance series. It is not necessary to have read the books in that series to enjoy this one**

Not even the fated mate and dual V can save this in my eyes.

Well, this was something, and it pissed me off to no end. It's very predictable, but wow, it was still rage-inducing.

Ugh! The moment it was told that he was engaged, I knew this was going to backfire at some point. 🥴

Anyway, Lyrion, the MMC, was engaged, and Isobel, the FMC, only found out about this at the 79% mark. 😑 Not because he told her, but because his betrothed visited him, and the revelation happened right then and there. He had multiple chances to come clean about his engagement, but not once did he do it. His brother and personal cook could've said something too, but they didn't either.

While I know it's for duty and he didn't really care about the OW, that was still shady as fuck, making Isobel the side chick when all along she thinks they're the end game. Sure, he finally realized his feelings for her; that's why he wanted to end the engagement. But he wants to handle it quietly, making me think so Isobel doesn't have to know about the arrangement at all. 😤

“Why not tell me then?”
“Because by that point, I feared you’d be angry that I hadn’t confessed my betrothal sooner.” I sigh heavily. “I should have been honest, but I was terrified of losing you. And in the end… I lost you anyway when you found out the truth.”

And if you expect some sort of grovel for the lying and cheating, oh well, you're going to be disappointed because there's none of that here. Zero, zilch, zip, nada, nothing. All he ever did was show up in a theater play, profess his love, and propose in front of the audiences, and voila, everything is forgiven.

I feel like Isobel's loving personality is more of a drawback atp. She was way too forgiving and it just didn't feel right to me. Imo, she really got the short end of the stick, because Lyrion didn't deserve her. I’m pretty sure he knows that too.

All his good deeds seemed icky because how can he be sweet and loving to her and still be a lying jerk at the same time??? So yeah, his acts of service don't mean any crap when he's a freaking liar all this time.

magical

I have no idea what happened to my review after I finished this book! But in my crazy, hectic life i made time to write while everything was still fresh in my mind and it has disappeared!!!!

So this review will not be as detailed as the details are blurry. But what does stand out is that this book made my whole day. Work was rough, kids are back at school and life was stressful and this book just brought all the feelz and smiles! It was cozy and funny—(the hero is telepathic and communicates with the heroines cranky cat!)

I loved the heroine. She was clumsy and adorable and vulnerable and sweet! The hero was perfect for her—stern and stoic and rigid and gentle and tender with her.

There was very little angst, this was just a cozy comfort read. There is a SMALL OW complication. The hero is engaged, it’s arranged and he doesn’t love her or have any physical or emotional connection with her. He delays telling the heroine due to fear of losing her. He had every intention of breaking the betrothal when he gets with the heroine

Anything this author writes, I gobble up and this was such a delightful surprise when it dropped! I cant wait for more!

Safe. Its implied hero is a virgin. Heroine is a virgjn and belongs only to her hero. No others, no cheating or sharing or abuse. Hea with epilogue

Once upon a time

It was a light fun reading tale that I consumed quickly. A fairy tale indeed. The ending was absolutely adorable. I think I'm going to enjoy the next one as well. I think everyone should read a fun romantic story once in awhile. Read it, you'll enjoy it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This in no way impacted my opinions.

This was such a warm and cozy read – cute, comforting, and exactly what I needed. While it’s a little different from Jessica Grayson’s usual work – no grand adventures or high-stakes drama – it feels perfect in its own way. Like curling up in a blanket with a mug of cocoa, it’s a story that wraps you up and lets you just breathe.

Lyrion and Isobel are both wonderfully relatable, and watching their romance unfold is just plain adorable. The supporting cast is equally delightful, each with their own quirks, and I’m already eager for future books in the series so I can spend more time in Oakvale with them.

Oakvale itself is pure charm: a whimsical little haven full of friendly faces and cozy corners that make you want to move in and never leave. It’s the kind of setting that feels like home, even though you’ve only just arrived.

There’s so much to love here: a sweet yet sassy FMC, a grumpy-but-soft-hearted MMC, a delightfully smug feline sidekick, charming potion mishaps, and even Dire Wolves (!!).

If you’re in the mood for a magical, feel-good escape, this one’s a treat.

The heart knows

This is a romantic tale with Elves and dwarfs as well as a bossy cat. Isobel is the sunshine Lyrion didn’t know he was missing and the family Isobel needed.

Not all cozy fantasy hits, unfortunately. This could have benefitted from a second pass from an editor and a single POV. The FMC is so pretty and delightful and doesn't know it and she keeps saying the MMC is broody but he's just an introvert and a little bit of an asshole.

“A sunshiney human. A grumpy Elf. One potion gone very, very wrong.”

This book is pure cozy fantasy charm! Unlike Jessica Grayson’s usual grand adventures, Kissing Potions and Elves is a warm, heartwarming tale full of sweetness, humor, and swoony kisses – simply adorable.

Lyrion, the stoic and grumpy elf, finds his carefully controlled world turned upside down when he meets Isobel, a sunshiney and sensitive human who brings light and warmth into his life. Their romance is equal parts funny, tender, and completely charming to watch unfold—especially their first kiss, where you can’t help but laugh when poor Lyrion mutters, “That… wasn’t normal,” utterly undone by what was supposed to be a simple headache-relieving potion.

“I want him to like me for who I am, not because of some accidental potion.”

Oakvale itself feels like the kind of whimsical town you’d want to move into—cozy corners, quirky townsfolk, and plenty of potion mishaps to keep things lively. The supporting cast shines, especially Errol the cat, whose sarcastic commentary and fierce protectiveness had me laughing out loud (and wondering what my own cat might say if given the chance).

“Listen, elf. You’d best not try anything with my Isobel. She’s got a pure heart, and you’d better not break it… She’s trusting. If you hurt her, you’ll answer to me.”

Add in dire wolves, swoony kisses, and a cast brimming with personality, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a comfort read.

“I’ll face whatever storms await me. Because losing Isobel is not an option.”

If you love grumpy x sunshine romance, found family vibes, and whimsical, low-stakes fantasy, this book is pure delight. I can’t wait to return to Oakvale for more!

✨Arc Review✨

Thank you to the author Jessica Grayson for sending me a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

-All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Charming, Lighthearted, and Just a Bit Bewitching

Kissing Potions and Elves is a cozy, whimsical escape into a fantasy world full of charm, potions, and slow-burn romance. Jessica Grayson delivers exactly what the title promises — a gentle, feel-good tale with just enough magic and heart to keep the pages turning.

The chemistry between the characters is sweet and satisfying, and the cozy setting feels like something out of a magical cottagecore dream. Fans of low-stakes fantasy and romantic tension will find a lot to enjoy here.

That said, I wasn’t fully swept away at every moment. Some parts felt a bit too predictable or slow, and I occasionally wished for a deeper dive into the world or the characters' backstories. Still, the writing has warmth, and Grayson clearly knows how to create a comforting atmosphere that fans of the genre will appreciate.

Overall, a lovely read for anyone in the mood for magical romance with a cozy twist. Perfect for fans of Legends & Lattes or anyone needing a soft fantasy hug in book form.

Very generic and shallow human sunshine x grumpy elf story. I think with some proper editing this could be a lot better. If you like low-stakes, typical romantasy stories this might be enjoyable.

There were two plot holes that really took me out of the story. First, the male lead somehow knows the female lead’s name without any explanation.
Second, the female lead stays over at his house, as his guest, but then decides she will make him a tea. She’s literally there for the first time and doesn’t know where his kitchen is. Mind you, he didn’t ask for that tea (she literally just goes into his bedroom unasked and wakes him up (despite him having a headache before) to tell him she will make it for him). He also has a servant who could have made the tea. This whole scene was so weird and unrealistic.

This was a light-hearted cozy cute romance read that tickled my fancy. This story is about Isobel our waitress and Lyrion our Elf lord. Isobel is cleaning and closing up the cafe. Then a knocking on the door calls her to answer and it's Lyrion wanting to be served Tressa headache potion tea. Isobel who has a crush on him takes pity on him and mixes the tea only the potion is mixed wrong. What occurs was an entertaining story as they find themselves bound to each other. Loved our characters they were very engaging as the tea made Lyrion amorous toward Isobel, but when the tea potion ends will Lyrion feel the same? I'd volunteer to read and review this enchanting romance story I'd received.

While action and tension make great elements to show how a couple can work together or tease us with the build-up, there is something to be said for the cosy tale that has managed to escape all the angst. That's not to say that the both our lovable leads don't have problems to solve only that it happens in a far calmer and more relaxed setting, no stress which it just what I was looking for.

The only way that I can describe thes two is adorable. She is very much the sunflower he didn't know he needed, bringing light into his life and he became the home she's always really been looking for but never found til now, albeit just a little bit grumpy. A really enjoyable read.

This book was cute, and very low stakes. It had cozy vibes along with some sad moments as well. A nice book to read on a do nothing day with a cup of coffee or tea and a snack all cozied up. I really enjoyed it along with the characters while they weren't anything to scream about I do like them and the world.

This book was a warm drink on a rainy day. Reading this your heart will immediately break for everything the FMC has gone through in her life, and with every turn of the page you hope for the happy ending the at she deserves. The world is tied the popular fairytale series, so if you like that series l know you'll like this one. While I am looking forward to the next book, l can't wait to read Brakkus’s story.

3.5 ⭐️ This was a really cute romance. It wasn’t earth shattering but it was the kind of low stakes cozy story I wanted right now. Isobel is a poor cafe waitress who accidentally doses the elf lord Lyrion (who she was crushing on) with a love/proximity potion. Elves generally believe that humans are beneath them so their developing relationship is a problem.

I adore Errol and side conversations we got between him and Lyrion.

This is book one in the Oakvale Ever After series. This is a fun and cozy fantasy romance. In spite of being magically bound together, Lyrion and Isobel were perfect for each other. They are loveable characters made better by hijinks and errors. I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and easy to read. A heartwarming magical romance.

Mix a FMC that's the equivalent of a quivering lip that every male side character wants(and threatens the MMC "take care of her or else") with a miscommunication trope and this was just not for me.

Skimmed the fuck out of it. Ha literally. Kindleunlimited
