Rule the Night: A Dark Why Choose Romance

I consent to be hunted.
I consent to be stripped.
I consent to be marked.
I consent to be owned.

These are the things I agree to when I sign up for the Hunt in the tunnels under Blackwell Falls.

But none of that prepares me to be stalked by the three men known as the Blackwell Butchers.

They’re huge. Inked. Deadly.

And they’ve decided I’m their prey.

But desperate times call for desperate measures, and I’m in dire need of desperate measures — namely someone to take out the man responsible for my sister’s murder.

Now all I have to do is avoid being caught by the Butchers.

Outlast them for twenty-four hours, and they’ll become my avenging angels.

Let them catch me and I become their slave for three long months.

What could go wrong?

It's not a game... it's a Hunt.

Rule the Night

The plot was definitely plotting in this one. It started strong, slowed down a bit in the middle, but picked back up around the 75% mark. The ending was solid, and honestly, I’ll probably pick up the next one.

I seem to be in the minority but this book just really bored me. I loved the concept of the hunt and those scenes were really fun and intense and I was looking forward to that energy through the rest of the book but it fell flat. We followed the FMC mostly going to work and cooking for the men. The guys were also dull and spent the book doing vague criminal things

Plot: 4/5 • Smut: 2.5/5 ————> She’s out for revenge for her sisters murder when it leads her to “The Hunt”. Bram’s an asshole. Poe is a romantic in disguise and Remy, well it’s still to be decided on Remy.

In the end she walks away. Again, fuck you, Bram. However, this ends on a cliffy with the start of another hunt, and Maeve in attendance once again.

Prey vs Predator 🌶️
A first read of this authors for me and honestly I’m sad I haven’t found her before - will definitely be heading for that backlist 😃
This book follows Maeve who’s heard rumours that an underground hunt offers the winner a ☠️ of their choosing; failing that you become the captors slave for three months 🙈 Maeve needs the instigator of her sisters murder given and its taken her down this route- this plot line is the undercurrent to the trilogy and there’s some snippets of intrigue dropped throughout that there may be more to that than there seems 🫣
Maeve is a strong character who knows her worth but she finds herself at the mercy of the Butchers and there’s lots of unwilling attraction and tension from the guys in this book in their belief in not needing attachments or being undeserving of them and this creates the majority of the angst in this initial book 😅 Bram is the huge leader - he’s stoic and slightly emotionally stunted; Remy is the overgrown clumsy puppy dog; and Poe is easy go lucky but has some drama going on 🤨 each show their attraction in various ways, some make you swoon 🔥🔥and some shake your head 🙂‍↔️
I personally wouldn’t class this as a dark romance; the men are morally grey and she has a murderous plan but nothing dark actually happens between her and her morally grey men. There’s an attempted SA (outside the harem) that gets stopped before it goes anywhere but that’s the darkest bit for me.
This was an engaging read that I found easy to blitz through and looking forward to the next 😀

I really enjoyed reading this arc. I couldn’t put it down. Literally read it in 4 hours. This book consumed me. I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the three guys, this book was spot on, the storyline was awesome. Poe is so sweet and charming, and loved the fact that Remy is so clumsy. Bram is an ass. I can’t wait for the next book. Excellent book if you love a spicy 🌶️ romance story.

And she’s done it again folks… I swear not a day goes by that I don’t cheer to all who will listen about Sadie and her books!

Seriously, I just know that out of all the Blackwell books that Butchers is gonna be my favorite.

I have been salivating for these books since I heard the potential for masked men books with a HUNT! I’ll tell you right now this is only book 1, I’m hooked once again and I’m so ready for book 2!

So this book, is book 1 in the Blackwell butchers trilogy. It involves the Butchers - Bram, Poe and Remy, our MMC’s and Maeve our FMC.

The butchers hold an event every so often in the tunnels under the fight club knows as the Orpheum. Maeve, whose sister is no longer alive. Wants revenge which is the prize for winning the hunt. However, should you lose, you’re stuck living and doing whatever the victors want for three months.

Maeve is a fierce FMC but not able to do it all on her own, Remy is the lovable clumsy golden retriever, Poe is the artistic one and Bram well Bram has a sweet tooth the Size of Texas but won’t eat her sweats and is a giant jerk.

The cliffs that Sadie dangles me over are full of shark infested waters…Ma’am you know what you did.

Legitimately one of my fav reads of the year a solid 5 ⭐️ and the heat is just beginning solid 2🌶️!

Suggested reading order for the Sadie/Blackwell Universe :

Kings & Corruption
kings & Chaos
kings & Carnage

Gather the Storm
Pay the Price
To the Grave

Into the Fire
He!l to pay
Shame the Devil

Rule the Night

Hide and seek gets dangerous

For anyone who is unfamiliar with Sadie Hunt's work, I highly recommend you run straight to the store to purchase this book.

A dark RH romance book with morally grey men and a kick-ass woman.

Maeve is seeking revenge for the death of her sister and has been told about "The Hunt". Set in the tunnels under the Orpheum and Blackwell Falls, a group of females are hunted by packs of 3 masked men. Nobody wants to be hunted by the men in the bone masks, "The Butchers", but Maeve has caught their attention and the men have all been warned, that she is theirs.

The men are large, tattooed and scary to look at, but Maeve gets to see the real men behind the masks.

Poe and Bram have suffered trauma in their past, and readers of earlier books will know Brams sister Cassie.

Poe is sweet, caring and adores Maeve. Remy is accidentally hilarious and also is falling for Maeve, Bram refuses to submit to his feelings.....yet

There is lots of character development, you get back stories, visits from previous characters and just enough spice, that doesnt take over the story.

There are triggers, and dark themes but if these dont worry you I highly recommend you read this book.

Sadie can write a character and the cliffhanger as we wait for book 2 is amazing....5 stars doesnt seem enough. Love this book

I received a free ARC edition of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have not been paid to leave this review and do so willingly and truthfully

Well well well, what a cheeky wee welcome surprise this palette cleanser was!!! After weeks of reading PG fantasy I needed an easy step back into the dark side of my TBR.

Although not especially dark and spice on the tame side I really loved this read. The story is brilliant - the idea of the hunt and its prevalence being a juxtaposition to Maeve’s story you think it’s never going to work. A contradiction in terms, yet it is so cleverly written and the strength of the FMC makes it cunningly possible.

Yes there is romance with spice that could have been off the charts BUT written as it is gives the actual story its chance to shine. The main story and the reason behind June’s murder is hugely relatable in our currently crazy world and I love how the Butchers normalise how wrong this behaviour is.

The cliffhanger was expected but still brilliant and I cannot wait to read to book 2.

F*** me! This was insanely good
I read each of Sadie’s books and think they can’t get any better, but every single time, she proves me wrong. Maeve, strong where she needs to be, but not some kind of super badass.
Poe, the artist, first to fall
Remy, the spatially challenged, who gives in next.
Bram, sugar fiend who won’t eat any of Maeve’s desserts, because this is only temporary and who hurts her so badly.
I thought my love for Blackwell had reached it’s peak with the B***ards, but I’m prepared to admit that I was wrong.
The whole book was absolutely fantastic, the spice is low but that tension between them all thrums throughout the whole book and when it kicks in, is so, so satisfying.
And that ending, knowing who could be after Maeve……omfg!

DNF. I feel like I’ve either read it before or am confusing this with another book. Either way, I haven’t been compelled to pick up my kindle to get back into the story. So I am putting it aside for something different for now. The concept is fun but a bit of a slow start. No real tension though our MFC seems to be attracted to some of them men. Just not enough chemistry or urge for me to get lost in this world to continue.

I love this author. she tells good stories with unique characters. I wasn't sure bc of the covers (yuck) but it was so good. fmc needs revenge for sister's death...the butchers run the Southside and strike a bargain with fmc to kill for her....and characters from previous books make cameos. so fun!💯🔥☠️👹

Not a Dark Romance

There’s nothing dark about this book at all. I loved the description, but it was incredibly deceptive. The “hunt” is downright boring—nothing exciting happens, and most of it is just them running around tunnels.

Spoilers ahead. When they finally capture her and you think things are about to get interesting… all they want her to do is cook for three months. I actually laughed.

The guys were built up to be big, bad, and dangerous, but they don't use any of that. The entire book fell completely flat for me. Defiantly shouldn't be considered a dark romance.

This book brought me back to my roots; Wattpad. LOL!

The writing has this casual style to it that I havent seen in years. Like the parentheses of clarity from the previous statement and the brief acknowledgement to the readers from the FL. Its a little refreshing!

Moving on, I thought this was going to be dark and take the route of us HATING the MLs then loving them but it didn't. This book is like going to the movies to watch Scream but instead Scary Movie is playing LOL!🤣 Not tryna say its a parody book, although it does have its comedic moments but its light for a dark romance reader.

Now with the MLs, they are actually chill, just intimidating and maybe sell a lil crack and drugs on the side but they still have a heart in the best way I can put it. Of course they have their jerk moments but its still better than other MLS I read about from other authors. The FL is also chill, she consented to everything and felt like it was fair to go along with their rules.

Long story short, its a good book, not too much angst and the author delivered what she said. No cheating/ OW Drama. I gave it a 4 star cause it was a smooth read for me and still got some emotions whirling. I figured a method when I get tense from the characters actions, I would read it out loud like a audible voice actor. It works like a charm helping me disconnect a little LMAO!

Decent

The Hunt & the 3 guys weren't as bad as the synphosis made them to be- thank god! 2 of tge 3 mmcs were freaking sweethearts! The guys treated the FMC wonderfully- she legit just became their chef.

The fmc p-ssed me off here & there because of that fact & the way she acted towards the men. Refusing to share her plans or history with the guys.
She's also the stubborn & overly dependent fmc that refuses to accept help, refuses to call 1 of the guys to come pick her up when she & her bestie drank to much & decided to walk home from a bar, drunk late at night. Nearly resulting in both of them getting sa'd.

All homegirl had to do was ask the guys for that favor, 2 of the 3 would either done it in a heart beat. She could've added on another 3 months to get that favor.

Ugh, that cliffy hanger. She's so stupid to do that, so stupid to risk it because if she gets the wrong guts, shes done.

Slight Confession: I held off on reading this series because the concept of being hunted down in the dark tunnels makes me nervous. How stupid is that??? I was worried that it would scare me. 🤣🤣🤣 It was dumb and now I have a whole TBR of books involving hunts that I need to revisit reading because this is why I’ve pushed them all off. Oh, brother, that’s embarrassing to admit…. Anywhoozers….

The premise of this hunt is actually pretty wild. It’s not just about sex (which I thought was the case). I mean, people get pelvic but that’s not the reason the girls sign up for it. Women consent to be hunted for twenty-four hours in the tunnel system below Blackwell Falls. If they avoid capture, they win and are granted the gift of a murder. They name the person they want dead and it’s done. If they do get captured, they lose and are contracted to three months of living with the those who hunted them for… whatever. Our FMC Maeve is participating in the hunt because her sister June was murdered and she’s out for vengeance. She’s already tried getting it herself once and found that she needs help to make it happen.

The Hunt was nerve-racking to read. I was a little right about how that was going to be. It’s intense and keeps your heart crammed right up in your throat the whole time it’s going on. I didn’t know what to expect going in and I felt like I was prey in the dark right along side Maeve as she tries to evade her hunters. It was intense and how it washes out what not what I was expecting at all.

Maeve is a fun character. She arrives on the scene strapped with a gun and an obsessive thirst for vengeance, yet she’s an absolute sweetheart of a human being. She only wants to hurt someone so they’ll stop hurting others. She’s the polar opposite of everything the Blackwell Butchers are. She grew up in a safe middle-class neighborhood with a tight, loving family and little knowledge about how dangerous the world outside her little bubble really is. The death of her sister changed all of that. It reshaped her. When we meet Maeve in chapter one, her obsession with getting justice for June is her sole driving focus and it’s really derailed her life in a lot of ways. Meeting the Butchers, in a roundabout way, helps lightly nudge her back toward the path she belongs on. Pretty quickly, we see them begin to chip away at the shell she’s built around herself, even those who aren’t intentionally …

The Blackwell Butchers live up to their label. You know and feel how much fear he puts into people even going by his appearances in prior Blackwell books. It’s well-established lore in the Blackwell Falls Saga world that Bram Montgomery runs the town. You simply don’t cross the Butchers. Those who do disappear never to be heard from again. They rule the criminal side of Blackwell Falls, keeping their activities from becoming a problem for the innocent citizens who live there. As the leader of their merry band of murderers, Bram Montgomery seems almost more animal than man. Everyone instinctually gives him a wide berth, the only exceptions being the Butchers, his little sister Cassie (of Cassie’s Cuppa fame), and Maeve. Although she shows him a spine of steel, Bram is determined to keep his distance from Maeve

Poe Killborn is charming AF. Yes, he’s a Butcher, but he’s also an artist who smiles easily and meditates every morning in his birthday suit. Naturally, he’s the first one to form a connection with Maeve. They pretty much get along from go. Remy Taft is a little more reluctant but not really in a dick-ish way. Our girl wins him over pretty quickly though (I can’t say why because of spoilers). Remy actually provides some moments of comic relief because despite being a big, scary man capable of unspeakable violence, he’s a bit of a klutz. The poor guy trips, drops things, and makes messes pretty regularly and you can’t help but laugh at him. Deadly predator? Yes, yes, yes, but don’t trust him near an open blender.

The antagonist in this book is Andrew Tate and I am here for it! Okay, he’s not actually Andrew Tate but he’s definitely an Tate facsimile. He’s a misogynist puddle of fetid shit who spews anti-female hatred as science and fact, and having been married to one of these assholes IRL, OMG, I HATE THIS MAN. Knowing that Maeve takes a shot at him was… awesome. Right out of the gate, I’m on #TeamMaeve and can’t wait to see Ethan Todd get his.

Patience, gentle readers….

I loved RULE THE NIGHT so much, I read it in one sitting. Never set the book down until I hit the end and dove right into book two like it held my next breath. I cannot recommend this trilogy enough. However, although it can be read as a standalone trilogy, I would urge you to read the other Blackwell Falls Saga trilogies first (Aventine University, Blackwell Beasts, Blackwell Bastards), if not for any other reason than the Bram glimpses you get but more because they are excellent. Sadie Hunt really does a great job of building up Bram’s lore throughout the Saga so when you finally meet him face-to-face in Rule the Night, you have a appropriate amount of fear. 😉

Nothing groundbreaking, though I did enjoy the Hunt at the beginning. But then it just seemed to grind to a halt in the "dark romance" way. The relationship building is slow and sporadic and doesn't really seem to be the focus of the series - which should be something

The book had dark themes, but I wouldn't necessarily call the romance dark. The three Big Bad Crime Lords? Actually misunderstood teddy bears who only participate in the hunt for the fun of it and because they need a cook. If they lose and get to kill someone, sure who doesn't enjoy some violence? But mostly they want a live in cook. Good thing the MMC went to culinary school! Would've sucked if they hunted someone who can't cook to save their lives... Just seems like there are easier ways is all. I mean, great that it worked out for all involved and, hell, I ship it.

The three MMCs were fine, in a "big-hearted tatted sexy criminals" generic way. Poe is the Native American artist, Remy is the blond middle class boy, and Bram is the dark brooding (but really family man) leader. They all run crime in the town, but only so they can control how bad the crime gets. So, you know, good drug dealers/enforcers.

I vascillated between sympathizing with Maeve's trauma and just being pissed at how stupid she was being. Her sister's boyfriend Chris killed her after being endoctrinated by Andrew Tate Ethan Todd, a manosphere influencer, and losing his damn mind. Since Chris' already in jail, the only logical step is to murder Ethan since he is ultimately responsible. I appreciate that her friends and family tried to point out that had it not been Ethan, Chris could've been influenced by anyone and that she was taking this blame a bit too far, but that was only one or two conversations.

Most of the book read like a deep dive/take down of the Manosphere/Toxic masculinity with short breaks for relationship "building" and drama. The TW do mention references to DV, missing women (of which there were references) and radical misogyny - which was the whole plot of the book. And had I known that going in, I might not have picked up the book. I get enough of that discourse IRL, from all sides. I don't need it as the plot for a book where pretty much only the 3 MMCs are enlightened and everyother man is a sexist pig - but it's ok because she mentions #notallmen one time before immediately saying "but..."

I'm glad Maeve got herself out by the end after the encounter with Bram. I respect her for knowing her worth and that she deserves respect. But that cliffhanger? I mean I'm here for it and reading the next book, but girl? Seriously?

I LOVED every minute of this dark, delicious book! I finished this in one day and my only regret is that it is finished, and I am left with quite a book hangover. Rule the Night is a why choose dark romance complete with feminine rage, loss, revenge and the unexpected.

Maeve may have grown-up in an average, typical life but that did not spare her from the all too powerful reality of grief’s grip and the encompassing revenge that can accompany. Now she is set on revenge and if she cannot enact her revenge herself, she will seek out those who can. Strong, stubborn and bonded to her word she will do anything, even enter the Hunt. When Maeve enters the Hunt, she knows what she is signing up for but the risk of being owned is worth the reward if you win…a favor.

The Butchers…I mean words cannot describe the hold Bram, Remy and Poe have on my being! While the three best friends may have different experiences and motivations they share a common vice. To satisfy this need they created their own outlet…the Hunt.

When their paths cross in the darkened tunnels their lives will be forever changed in the harsh light of day.

Bram had to, at a younger age, take on more responsibility than most. He did what he had to and now runs his city. Remy has always had a darker side for as long as he can remember, despite his pretty typical upbringing. While he is not always the most graceful, he always brings an upbeat attitude to life. Poe has had his fair share of struggles too many and too few have had to face. He is as creative as he is dangerous and on a personal quest to find some form of peace. All three of the butchers are devastatingly gorgeous, tattooed, muscly morally grey men, that no one would want to choose between!

This is well-written, and I could not put it down. The plot is amazing, the characters are still living in my head, and the spice is unbelievably hot! This is the first book in the Blackwell Butcher’s series, and the ending had me screaming for more. Dark romance lovers, morally grey enthusiasts and those who crave a why choose…this the book for you!

This is a dark romance so please check the content warnings.

Thank you Sadie for the arc!
I don't know how she does it, but they manage to get better with each book and they drop right when I need them.

What better way to kick off spooky season then to
Return to Blackwell falls and meet the butchers?

The guys in this were teased in the previous series, their games in the underground tunnels where they hunt their willing victims.
I could tell from that brief description that they were going to be my favorite.

You'll like this if you enjoy:
Why-choose
Primal fun predator & prey
Light bully romance
Captive romance & forced prox
Avenging anti heroes
Morally grey, complex characters
Tough MMCs with a soft spot
Touch her & 💀

Maeve is determined to win the illusive Hunt that is hosted a few times a year. If you make it 24 hours in the tunnels without getting caught and claimed: you get to name someone who you want to be murdered.
If they catch you before the time ends? You have to live with them for 3 months.

She immediately catches the eyes of the butchers because she shows up with a gun and is seemingly the most prepared to participate. The butchers are pretty much the most intimidating gang participating in the game, and they stake their claim on her.

I love how the guys are alike, but also so different.
Remy is the health nut who is super clumsy.
He loves to read and has a massive library of books.

Poe (our cover model) is an artist who loves working with his hands and kicking off each morning by doing some nude yoga. He's the one who ends up spending the most time with Maeve.

Bram is the silent leader. He's the scariest one of the bunch, he's intense, but I get the feeling that he's a big softie underneath.
He's also got a massive sweet tooth and appreciates Snickers bars (same).

All of the guys are dark, and have a primal craving for blood, hunting and capturing that need to be regularly purged, which is why they enjoy the hunt so much.

All of them come with secrets, and baggage, but they have more in common than they think.

✨Rule the Night

If you love:

🔹Masked men
🔹Being chased/hunted
🔹Vengeance
🔹Why choose
🔹Blackwell Falls
🔹Gun toting FMC

✨ Sadie Hunt has done it again—I devoured this book in eight hours flat. It was THAT delicious.

From the very beginning of the Kings of Aventine series, Bram Montgomery was the mysterious shadow in the background. We heard about him…but we never really knew him. Until now.

🔥 And hot. damn. Bram is DARK, devilishly handsome, emotionally unavailable, and completely magnetic.

But the best part? His two best friends are just as irresistible:

* Poe – the shameless nudist artist who lives to tease Maeve.
* Remy – a giant cinnamon roll with zero spatial awareness (sir, please learn how doors work), but the biggest golden-retriever heart.
*
💔 Maeve Haver, our FMC, is still grieving her sister’s death and spiraling into vengeance. She’s fierce, stubborn, and an incredible baker—constantly tempting Bram with desserts he refuses to let himself taste. (The self-control on this man??? Unreal.)

🔥 Oh and the spice? PLENTY. So. Much. Spice.

My favorite scene? The apple orchard. That’s all I’m saying. 😏

But what I love most is the PLOT. It ties back to the Blackwell Bastards and Blackwell Beasts series—Sadie Hunt’s interconnected world is masterful. The threads weave in every direction, and yet everything still fits together perfectly.

✅ Dark MMC ✅ Found family ✅ Revenge ✅ Banter ✅ Spice ✅ Emotional depth

I highly recommend this book—and honestly, her entire universe. You will NOT regret diving in.

I know it's integral to the plot but Maeve’s obsession with Ethan Todd* seems far fetched to me. Her sister’s boyfriend/murderer is solely responsible in my opinion. His weak willed character had him taking Ethan’s outlook on women to heart, although there is no indication that Ethan advocated killing your S.O. if they disappointed you. Her sister bears some culpability as she had been told “a million times” that Chris was no longer the boy she’d initially fallen for. Her excuse “but I love him” is pretty much the refrain of most abused women.

I’ve thought a bit more about this and I’m no psychologist but do adults completely change their personalities as this guy supposedly did? Was he on drugs? Speaking of drugs, Maeve's new little trio of boy toys are drug dealers. One of them picks up a shipment of MDMA (Ecstasy) Oh yeah, they’re so righteous not allowing drugs to be sold near schools. I think Poes’s brother is in prison for drug use. Hypocritical much?

Anyway it just so happens that there’s a “game” held every three months where teams of men chase women in underground tunnels. If the woman is caught she has to be at the men’s beck and call for three months. If she manages to elude them for 24 hours she can have a person of her choice murdered. Maeve is bound and determined to have Ethan killed. Of course it doesn’t work out as planned and she ends up living with the three Blackwell Butchers. Two of them eventually succumb to her charms but Bram, the leader, resists until he doesn’t. His lack of affection causes Mauve to renege on her agreement and she returns to her old life. Everyone involved is devastated. To be continued.

*More about Ethan in book 2 where his personality and beliefs are explored in greater detail.

Are you ready for your next dark romance obsession? Welcome back to Blackwell Falls home of secrets, shadows, and the irresistible Blackwell Butchers.

In this twisted, gripping continuation, we meet Maeve who is a fierce, determined FMC who’s unafraid to step into the darkness to avenge her sister’s death. When she enters The Hunt, a brutal game where survival means everything, Maeve knows she needs help. She’s tried doing it alone. It didn’t work.

Enter the Butchers: Bram, Poe, and Remy.
• Bram: The ruthless leader who practically owns the town and definitely owns the rules of the
Hunt. Power drips from him, and everyone knows not to cross him.
• Poe: Haunted by the loss of his brother, he carries a quiet grief that shapes his every move.
• Remy: The wildcard. He's never known loss the same way, but that doesn’t make his demons
any less real.

The three men are bonded by blood, violence, and a shared thirst for control. The Hunt is their world… until Maeve crashes into it. From the moment they see her, it’s clear this Hunt is going to be different.

Maeve gives it her all but she’s caught before the 24 hours are up. Now, the rules demand three months of “ownership.” Living under the same roof as Bram, Poe, and Remy means cooking for them, continuing her day job, and digging deeper into the conspiracy behind her sister’s death. All she has to do is survive the three months without falling for the very men who might destroy her or save her.

Sadie does it again. From page one, I was hooked. Grief bleeds through the pages, the tension is electric, and the spice? Absolutely delicious. That ending left me wanting more and I so can’t wait for Bleed the Shadows.

Dark romance lovers, this one’s for you.

I CONSENT!

Sadie does it again! This is book 1 of the Blackwell Butchers Trilogy.

Rule the Night starts out at The Hunt. A 24-hour event where groups of 3 men chase women through the underground tunnels of Blackwell Falls. If you get caught, you're stuck with those that caught you for 3 months. If you're not, you get a favor from the men who didn't catch you.

Meave, our feisty FMC, is there to win and use the favor to avenge the death of her sister.

The Butchers, our MMCs - Bram, Poe and Remy, run The Hunt, and most of Blackwell Falls through various enterprises. Once they see Meave - they know who they're hunting.

As the Hunt goes on, we see the grit and determination Meave uses to last as long as possible. Unfortunately, she's stuck with the Butchers for 3 months ... During that time, we learn about all of them.

Meave and her grief about her sister's murder, and how she's really holding up.

Poe and his background with loss, grief and guilt over his younger brother's addiction and prison stay.

Remy and his healthy food addiction, and adorable clumsiness.

Bram tries to stay stoic, but Remy and Poe can see the cracks starting to surface.

After the 90 days, it's time for a new Hunt ... Will Meave be able to win this one?

As usual, Sadie hooked me in the first chapter and leaves me on a cliffhanger. There were some parts that I felt moved at a slower pace, then others I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The grief is palpable, the yearning is tangible, and the spice is delectable. I can't wait for Bleed the Shadows!

*Thank you to Sadie Hunt for the ARC!!

Emotionally squishy, morally grey men meet a badass woman on a mission.

Uhg, not only am I realizing the parallels to the FU series in these books, which, by the way, I constantly reread. 😅 I am way too invested in seeing how this evolves in Sadie's way. Aaaaaaand, clearly I was too excited to read this that I didn't bother checking to make sure the series was complete 😭 I read this in one sitting and was not prepared nor anticipating a wait.

Maeve is incredible. I love a strong, take-no-nonsense, sticks to her guns (hehe, iykyk), female lead. The world building is, as always, spectacular from Sadie. I feel the pain the characters are going through. I can imagine myself in the space, allowing me to live in this story.

As for the 3 MMCs, Poe, Bram & Remy, I wasn't drawn/connecting to them at first. I'm still struggling with Remy. I feel like there's a lack of true interaction between him and Maeve. The 3 MMCs don't have much "on air time" either, to really get to know them (which for a why choose, is always challenging to balance), but I have a sneaking suspicious we'll get more depth from them in books 2 and 3.

Now I wait, but don't you wait to read this if you're a dark and twisty girl who likes marshmallowly, beastly morally grey men. This isn't truly dark. The men don't hurt her in the same way I feel "dark romance" stories normally do. Ley's go with, the TW section isn't as full as, say, the FU or Witchwood Boys series, but there's still plenty of suspense and thrills!!

Amazing work, as always, Sadie!

Maeve enters what's known as the Hunt. She needs help finishing revenge for her sisters death and she knows she can't do it herself. She tried.

Bram owns the town and everyone knows not to mess with him and his crew. He's the one who runs the Hunt and makes the rules.

Poe knows what it's like to have loss in his life. He lost his brother to drugs and then to prison.

Remy never suffered the loss of a loved one but he has his own issues.

All 3 guys work, live, and breathe together. And so of course they do the Hunt together. They live for it. And they don't mind winning or losing because they get something they want either way. But when they step into the room and lay eyes on Maeve, they want her and they know things are going to be different this time.

Maeve gives the Hunt her best but she eventually gets caught before the 24 hours is up. She takes the loss and follows through with the three months of living with Bram, Poe, and Remy.

3 months with these guys, cooking for them while working her normal job, and researching the man that was involved in her sisters death. Maeve just has to get through the 3 months of ownership, so she can join the Hunt again and win this time. And maybe not get feelings for all 3 broody, mysterious, dangerous men.

But the guy she's been researching has been doing his own research on Maeve, and he's dangerous.

Oh my! Sadie Hunt - you have done it again! This world of Blackwell Falls just never ceases to intrigue me more & more with each book!

The story line of this series has thrown Blackwell Falls deeper into an area that I’ve not read about before & I can see Sadie tying it all in with the town’s previous book history. I’m not giving away any hints here but let’s just say I was a “tad annoyed” at the book baddie & his beliefs he was sprouting.

So onto the other parts of the book that we all want to know about… The Butchers & Maeve! 🫠 Yeah… I’ve melted for Poe & Remy & am loving the Bram dynamic. Our heroine is strong & human in all the ways… Maeve’s story is realistic with love & loss & so many morals & feelings and… she’s just a beautiful character to read. The boys all come with stories of their own & they each unfold as the book goes on.

The spice is great (who doesn’t want to go apple picking!) 😜 & in line with storyline & world building. This book ticks all my boxes!
✔️ Spice 🌶️
✔️ Alt POV
✔️ great storyline with believable characters/backstories
✔️ really well written
✔️ flowing timelines

While you can read this book/series without knowing Blackwell Falls history, I highly recommend the other series from Sadie as well, Aventine Uni, Blackwell Beasts & Blackwell Bastards. They are really awesome reads.
I really am looking forward to book 2…

We start off at The Hunt. You win you are owed a favor; you lose you are
theirs for three months. You’re hunted by a pack of three guys. And nobody
wants to get caught by the Butchers, who rule the Hunt.
Maeve wants to get revenge for her sisters’ death. She has a complicated
grief story. She is an amazing cook. I love her sassy, spunky, strong
character.

“You’re a fucking fire starter, Maeve. And you’re going to burn the place down while
you’re still inside.”

Poe sweet and charming. He loves to do yoga butt naked. He’s an artist and
the one to fall first.

“A meditating beast who hunted women in the tunnels under Blackwell Falls?”

Remy is a clumsy, health nut, who is sarcastic and funny.

“Remy’s nutritional fixation was going to be a pain in my ass.”

Bram is our alpha hole. He has a sweet tooth but denies Maeves awesome
sweets. He is the one I am excited for and cannot wait to see when he
finally falls.

“He’d been wrong: he was the fire-starter, and he was lighting matches in every
corner of my body from the inside out.”

There is so much amazing chemistry between all the characters. We get our
mystery and drama. You can feel the tension between characters as you
read. I will never look at an apple orchard the same way again. I wish life
didn’t get in the way; this was a book I didn’t want to put down

Review: Rule the Night by Sadie Hunt

Sadie has done it again! Rule the Night is a wild, addictive, and emotionally charged ride that kept me hooked from start to finish. I’m usually the kind of reader who waits until an entire series is out before diving in — but her books completely break that rule for me.

From the very first page, I was pulled into a world full of danger, desire, and unforgettable characters.

Poe brings the heat in every scene (honestly, someone get me a fan), while Remy adds charm and warmth with his clumsy, relatable energy that made me smile through the chaos. Bram may be an arse right now, but I have a feeling Maeve will have him wrapped around her finger by the end — and I am here for it.

And then there’s Maeve, the fierce, loyal, and beautifully complex heroine we all root for. Watching her evolution — and knowing she’s destined to rule the tunnels as the Queen of the Butchers — made my heart race in all the best ways.

This book made me laugh, blush, get angry, and even tear up (which I was not prepared for). Sadie balances action, emotion, and romance with incredible skill, leaving me desperate for the next installment.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️
A thrilling, emotional roller coaster that will leave you breathless and begging for the next Hunt.

Griping from the first sentence

Sadie Hunt is genius. The last of the Blackwell Falls stories has us exploring the towns mysterious Bram Montgomery and his two business partners and friends. These three men own Blackwell and run all its various business interests.

Every three months, the men run a hunt. Three man teams hunt women who consent to be hunted, marked, and owned for 90 days, used as their captors see fit. For the Butchers, it's to cook for them.

Maeve joins the hunt wanting to win. If you last the 24 hour hunt time, without capture, you tell them who you want eliminated and it's done.

Maeve's sister was murdered a year ago. Her boyfriend is in jail because of it. However, Maeve wants the man who influenced him to pay as well. Unfortunately, she loses and spends nearly 3months with the Butchers.

S3xual tension fills the loft as the four share the loft belonging to the 3men. Bram has an iron will, resisting her, even though his attraction to her isn't fooling his friends.

Despite the tension, the men discover who she's gunning for. Poe and Remy want to do the job anyway, however: Bram forbids it. She lost.

As they near the end of the contract, A clash between Bram and Maeve ends it early. But there's always another hunt.
