A demon’s life is never easy. Join Xoe as she’s thrown to the wolves, the werewolves that is. As if witches, human sacrifices, and other demons weren’t enough to deal with, Xoe must struggle to rein in her powers before she sets something more important than a washing machine on fire. If she can’t, her whole life might go up in flames.

Her series include:
Tree of Ages The Thief's Apprentice The Moonstone Chronicles Xoe Meyers Bitter Ashes
Xoe is immature and whiney. She's mean and sarcastic to all of the people who care about her and always seems to talk back, be rude, and disregard everyone's feelings. To her own, and their, detriment. They are consistently running from problems caused by her attitude, losing eachother, she and her friends think they have to be involved in everything they shouldn't, and she's not able to protect her or them when she's being such an obnoxious brat. For reasons I can't fathom, they think she's right and let her get away with it and worse, follow her. Really?! I like the demon, werewolf, vampire, Naga thing though. It just seemed overwhelming attitude issues bugged me a lot.....
I love Xoe, but then I love sarcastic female protagonist. This is a fun fast read reminds me of early LKH before her books got boring and overly formulaic. Even if you're not YA like myself it's still very enjoyable.
Not terrible, but one of the clearest things that I can remember on looking back... Is the clothes. 'I'm an anti fashion queen, but I wear this today, and that today, and that today. And that person just walked in and they are wearing that today and that today...' it really just goes on.
So for this to work out you have to understand I am reviewing the three books together more of an account of whether or not character development was excellent and if the plot of each book was well executed. Honestly the author developed the main characters rather excellently and the most mainest character was the best developed where she fell a little was the villains, they lacked background and being well developed. Like in the first book Dan the werewolf was not given enough history, maybe he needs his own book, I don't know because I don't know him that well. Next Nick in the second book had no character development he just sucked and what about his little group taking powers. In the last book Maggie was the most developed bad guy she was a vampire and had history with one of the main characters. I just felt that while these books were fast paced and exciting major parts were missing and there were a lot of plot holes. Overall the books were exhilarating to read and I do recommend them just know they lack some things and go in knowing that.
I love YA usually, but this series seems to contribute to why YA has a bad reputation for producing quality books. The characters are dull and there is no depth. The descriptions of characters use stilted language and seem to mainly include height, weight, and hair color. At any one time, I found myself thinking of much better YA novels that involve werewolves (NOT TWILIGHT) and vampires. Yeah, I just could not get into this story and all the characters could have died and I wouldn't have cared.
Needs to stop using the words "mumble" and "pizza" every 2 sentences.
Very angsty kids playing at being adults. Personal pet peeve that the author used "mumble" way too often to describe characters speech. Plot was decent but could have used less whining and rudeness. I always hate when an author allows their character to be such an unlikable brat. Also what's with the constant eating of pizza??? 99% of all their meals, I mean seriously...!!! Maybe they're mumbling all the time because they're constantly choking down pizza.
I'm not going to spoil the book much other than to say, i was really surprised by how this book set drew me into the series. I wish that there had been a little more depth on a couple of the characters. Mom needed a little more back story but I'm hoping that because it wasn't covered inn these books it'll be converted in the following books.
The multi-"species" angle has been done before but this version really works well and i can't wait to see the continuing growth of the characters.
All said and done this series of books I'd give a 4.5 star rating if Amazon wasn't so worried about bad reviews. I withheld .5 star just because like any book, movie, real life, it could be just that much better.
xoe: cute beginning to the series. had a long start up, lots of teen angst. descriptions of things, rooms, people, etc were very long, almost winded. 3.5 to 4 stars. accidental ashes: I enjoyed this book much more than the first. There was more action, definitely but that isn't why. It wasn't as slow, plodding and wordy. I missed the strong-female-not-relying-on-male vibe that Xoe had before but we all change in a relationship and this was minor. I absolutely look forward to continuing this series. 5 stars broken beasts: another very enjoyable addition to the series. we meet more of the supernatural community in this book and it is a whirlwind of political drama. also humorous. 5 stars
Fast paced, snarky teens who are in a heap of trouble of the demon vampire werewolf kind. A fresher take on the rules of being supernatural. Vampires can be in the sun, werewolves are the most common and most rule driven, and demons are a part of the mix. Technology, parent rules, teen angst and pizza abound --but the angst part is all short lived because of their huge problems. Similar to acne ashes and other ways to know your half dragon. And the Lucy Series...Xoe Meyers has 4 more books so maybe I will add them to my collection!
I just couldn't put it down! I'm at work 2:35 am and usually reading this late makes me tired, but between Xoe's snarky attitude and the apparent/unapparent love triangle, I HAVE GOT TO FINISH THE SERIES!!!! I have to see how much more trouble she gets into and out of. I HAVE to see he KICK ASS!
Normally I really like young adult titles. These three books are engaging and have good story lines but I found at times it was hard to suspend disbelief with some of the characters. Overall I enjoyed the books but wouldn't be rushing to pick up the rest of the series. I will try to track down other of Sara's books or series that may engage me more.
Story flowed well, had action, humor and some romance! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal stories and even though it's supposed to be for young adults,I enjoyed it aswel
The story flowed well, had everything I enjoy- humor, action and a little romance. Even if you're not around adult,I you like paranormal stories, you'll enjoy this one.
I was pleasantly surprised with these three books; they were a fun read with characters who grew and developed in an interesting way. Humor mixed with action makes this book hard to ignore.
Supernatural adventure at its best; werewolves, vampires, and demons galore.
I certainly enjoyed reading about Xoe and her friends. While it’s not one I would get excited to share with my kids or friends, it was a still fun and easy series to read. I could have done without the cursing, but I also know that’s pretty typical for most people, I’m the weird one there.
A lot of werewolf and demon stories around today. I liked the first book best, although my mind couldn't figure out how to pronounce "Xoe" -- is the X like Mexican Xochimlco (sh); or is it a Z sound (then why doesn't she get a name "Zoe" ?) super annoying. Anyway, Xoe is a snarky teenager who is basically mean to everyone, and there are major descriptions of clothes (to appeal to YA audience?) although Xoe says she doesn't care about clothes. Confusing. Good story, though, lots of action, and believable paranormal creatures. And 5 stars for clear writing and almost no typos. Thanks.
I wish this book was out when I was younger. Life as a teen is covered so well. Intro to paranormals was great. I was able to keep the characters straight as they were each distinct . There is a recap of sorts at beginning and end. Read it !
This book was absolutely amazing. I loved this book so much and could not put the first three down. This book was one of the best books I have ever read. I do recommend this for anybody who is looking to read this book.
My only complaint is they are a bit short. Great books overall. Excellent plot twists and development of characters. I hope that some of the mystery in the books will be revealed later in the series.
I find the stories to be very good. Use of some words, and some errors such as one time it was supposed to say Jason and said ason instead was noticeable to me. The typo could have been on whomever converted it to kindle. This was very minor to me.
I enjoyed the writing style and the characters in this book. The only thing that bugged me is the attraction of a several hundred year old vampire to a teeny bopper. That always weirds me out a bit.
A fantastic read that I just couldn't put down. I fell in love with Xoe and felt I was one of the group. Looking forward to more adventures with Xoe and the gang
I love the characters, especially the heroine. What I like most is that she is not afraid to speak her mind. The adventures seem to keep growing, and her and her friends keep learning more and more each time.
This was very interesting. I loved the story line, characters, & writing style. I also liked it was the first three books altogether. Now on to book four. Can't wait to see what these crazy kids do next.
These books were had really good bones. It could use a bit of fine tuning because there is a lot of mixed up names and a lot of details that got overlooked. Overall a great read just would prefer the finer details fixed up.
This was a fun read! Fantastic characters and a great plot made for a really fun and great read. The characters are well rounded, the story well written and full of action.
I love these xoe stories and this book did not disappoint me! There is so much action on every page it goes by too quickly. Can't wait to read more of her adventures
Considering I picked this up after reading a crappy free kindle book, this one was a 100%. But still not as perfect as I like my favorite stories. Great read though.
This was a very innovatively way to present supernatural power, romance and lifetime . The story started very slow in the first book but it unravel in great tempo now.
