Scent to the Feral Cowboys: A Standalone Why Choose Romance

Rate this book
Her nature is wild.
These rough riders aim to tame.

Nelly Shaw was Tacoma’s ballet rising star until a grand jeté left her with a career-halting injury. Stubborn and unwilling to succumb to limitations, her life became a blur.

Two surgeries. Physical therapy. Panic attacks. A desperate comeback attempt. And the dance company she’d once called home kicking her to the curb. She couldn’t hack it anymore.

Staying in Tacoma is a constant, aching reminder of all she’s lost, so Nelly packs up the few belongings she has and moves less than forty miles away to Seattle. Somehow, she finds herself dancing on a stage again. Only this time, she wears sky high heels instead of pointe shoes and literal lingerie instead of a leotard.

The high of the burning lights above, and the appreciative eyes below, are enough for Nelly. All she’s ever wanted is to dance. As time goes by, she forgets the focused, strict nature of her past and embraces being a little wild.

Over seven hundred miles away in Pinedale, Wyoming, the Alphas of Sagebrush Ranch are looking for an Omega to complete their pack. They’re a bunch of brooding, rough-cut cowboys who love a good bar fight and an ice-cold beer. They’ve never met a stallion they couldn’t break or cattle they couldn’t drive. The only animals they can’t seem to wrangle are... themselves.

When the Eros Institute scent matches Wyatt, Wade, Cooper, Boone, and Levi with exotic dancer Nelly, the only question
Can their Omega really leave her stripper stage for a simple life on the wide-open range?

I’m gathering this is an ongoing problem with the author. The book spends legit 50% of itself in a past that ultimately doesn’t matter. The book is nearly 200k words, 100k of those aren’t even with the FMC and pack being in the same vicinity. The author is too wordy and their editors don’t rein it in. 23 chapters into a 51 chapter book. And it’s not like the backstory is establishing callback to the current present. Its character background yes, but it’s almost like this is a book and we can just set small establishment scenes and phrases in the present to give a reader an idea. This author is showing and telling. I’ve read Stephen King novels with less pointless description. It has the potential to be good, but the length is unbearable. For reference, this book is longer than Dune. It’s longer than the first two Harry Potter books COMBINED. Like ma’am, please hire better editors or cut your bulk into two novels.

I’m going two stars because this was a slog and a waste of my time. The romance was stilted (we don’t get actual love between characters til 80% in). The story was just restatement after restatement of the same thoughts and feelings. No I don’t need to know every individual perspective of this one event. I’m good.

Too much time spent in the past

This was a well written book with only a few minor grammatical and spelling issues. The main characters were fantastically unique and it was easy to get drawn in.

That said, the first third of the book is before present day. It was slow to get to the FMC'd current time and I almost put it down because of how long it was taking. It is because of the pacing issues that I give it three stars.

Great Ending!

So a few times I got frustrated, her and the pack not meeting till half way through and the first half felt too long and I would get bored. But, the second half of the book was just so good. I really liked the second half and I loved the ending. If the first half wouldn’t have felt soo long I would have given this 5 stars. She’s a wonderful author and the writing is excellent.

Scent of the feral cowboys

Great book!! Not just another romance. Great plot leading to a wonderful ending. The different character interactions , keeps u wanting to continue reading, wanting more. This is the 2nd standalone romance, in the series, that I have read. If u want something different, with unusual characters, great plots, and not your usual, boring romance, read this book!!!

I’m reading some of the reviews on this book and I have to agree half this book was in the past not needed for understanding the story . I really love long books I got happy to find 600 plus pages , but over half the book was not enjoyable to read in fact I skipped ahead a lot . I’m at 54 % on my kindle and ready to forget it , so popped on Goodreads to look at reviews it’s not looking favourable so might leave it for now . 😕

I genuinely enjoyed this book. It was well written with a very interesting story, and it was a great read for me.

This is not your typical Omegaverse story. It is an extremely slow burn story. The beauty of this book is the characters and their struggles. The book starts out prior to Nelly and her alphas ever meeting, and we watch them struggle independently. It is a very interesting approach, and for me, it really works.

I absolutely loved this book!
