Body Count

Rate this book
By day, I teach third grade. By night, I rate men like Uber rides and write anonymous recaps on the blog that’s probably ruined a few egos—and inspired even more group chats.

Hi. I’m Rivah. But to the internet? I’m Soaked.

And before you judge me, let me ask you when men sleep around, they’re called experienced. When women do it, we’re called everything but free. So I stopped caring what anyone calls me and started telling the truth.

My blog, Body Count, isn’t about sex. It’s about choosing me. About turning every red flag into a teachable moment and every body into a boundary I built myself.

Then Kross showed up.

He’s... different. Like, green flags in bulk. And while my body wants to rerun him like my favorite show, my heart is still blocked and unavailable.

But things are getting weird.

Men I’ve been with are showing up dead, and I don’t know if it’s karma, coincidence, or something else entirely.

All I know is…

This isn’t a blog of regrets.

It’s a record of reclamation.

Body Count? Nah. This is Character Development.

Loved Wild

Wow what did I just read.

This story gave so much in a short amount of time. Rivah was your typical bad b*tch...fine AF, educated, with just enough petty in her blood, but but over the years men had humbled her. So much so she resigned herself to never fully giving into a man again. She was in control, she held the power and she made sure they knew and felt that. She didn't care if she was seen as promiscuous, she relished in the freedom to do whatever tf she wanted to do with and for her body. She took that power to the next level by rating her sexual interactions with men like yelp on her blog. I enjoyed it way too much 🤣🤣 She was eating those men up, sis didn't hold back. I fell out at the side tooth bandit 😩🤣😩🤣 and the drama surrounding him was hilarious.

To say her interactions were underwhelming would be an understatement until she met Kross. Kross was a wet dream walking .. dark skin, bulging biceps, with too much confidence, looking like the money he possessed. Kross knocked down every wall around her heart. He didn't tame her, and I quote " he loved her wild." That is what every woman wants the freedom to be loved without having to lose themselves in the process.

The story is wild though and as secrets are uncovered Rivah has to decide if she can love this version of Kross. I like the shift she made at the end.

My only call out is I wanted some more descriptors for Kross. Did he have waves, did he wear dreads. Did he tower over her? Other than that I enjoyed the story, it was different and that was refreshing.

Wow OKAY Netra I wasn’t familiar with your pen. Rivah and Kross were different both fighting for dominance but Kross was in control all along. I honestly didn’t see that twist at the end but I did enjoy Rivah and Kross love story.

ARC REVIEW

5/5

Baby, I ate this book up and left no crumbs. The story had me hooked from page 1 to the end. The growth of Rivah was probably one of my favorite elements of this book. I was worried about my girl in the beginning. I loved the humor, all the side characters… literally everything !! The plot twist ?! Girl !!!! I did not see that coming at all. I need book 2 asap 😂

I had a good time….

This is my first read and I really enjoyed it. I loved Rivah from page one but I knew she had met her match in Kross. Talk about a man with a superior mouth….the things he said has me smiling big. I didn’t expect the glimpse of suspense and honestly I wish the author would have leaned into that just a little more. It felt like a tease and then if was over and it’s not a bad thing, just a me thing. I can’t wait for Niv’s book, I hope she gives ******* a huge taste of his own medicine.

It’s definitely a fun one and the twist was only unexpected because of the reasoning, from early on I figured who was responsible for certain things but the reasoning was really sweet. I can’t rate it higher cus a lot of the lines just have corny lmaoo like very RH Sin coded “She was danger and flame and all you could hope was not to be burned” LIKE ENOUGHH we get she’s a Baddie but enough tell the story stop with the lines. Like it felt like the author was chasing quotes and highlights vs telling a really vulnerable story. I also struggled with Rivah’s thought process like not from a place of judgement but mainly confusion. My issue I think is she was waxing poetic talking all this boss stuff and body is a temple but sharing it with losers, LOSERS. Like men so bad that they getting no star ratings, had more drama than even worth discussing but we are supposed to believe this is an empowered woman who owns her body and knows her worth??? I just couldn’t follow what was being shown like was she hoing because of heartbreak or was she hoing cus she enjoyed it? Overall the author is talented but overly descriptive which began to get repetitive. I do wish we would’ve saw more of her and Vane’s friendship dynamic but I did like meeting all the brothers.

Body Count by Netra Antionette was a ride I didn’t expect but absolutely needed. Rivah is messy, honest, and free without apology. The story feels like reclamation in real time a woman choosing herself so loudly the world has no choice but to adjust.

Lawd, that Kross. He’s giving green flags in abundance, the kind of man who makes healing feel possible without ever forcing it. And when the bodies start dropping, the story shifts from romance into suspense, reminding you that loving yourself isn’t always pretty, but it’s always necessary.

Body Count isn’t about sex. It’s about sovereignty. About a woman who stopped shrinking, started speaking, and dared to choose herself first. A bold, addictive, emotionally rich read that lingers.

It’s was going all right at first. The typical “I’m the baddest bitch” behaviour then it got weirdly unhinged.

This is hands down one of my top reads of 2025! I wish I could give it 5000 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ /5. Just a heads up, this review will be a lengthy one, so bare with me…or don’t 😂

While the title might make you pick up this book immediately to see what exactly goes down like I did, I was in for a surprise that not even my own curiosity could have prepared me for. I was blown away by the strong, veryyyy relatable emotions this book evoked in me. I am talking TEARSS, real tears. Laughing tears, sad tears, happy tears, all the damn tears chileee. Point is, I was in my bed, in the hair salon chair, crying crying 😭 The author touched on personal and sensitive themes such as strength, loneliness, grief, healing, sexual empowerment and the stigma surrounding women who embrace their desires, body autonomy, and love, especially black love, and the cost of it that many of us have paid just by trusting the wrong person, and she wrote about it soooooo well, while showing us it is possible to be done correctly THE FIRST TIME, in a HEALTHY way! Whether it’s due to past experiences with heartbreak or not, she wrote about love and healing in such a profound way that will leave me remembering this book for a very long time, and hell, I can’t tell you what I had for breakfast yesterday, let alone remember a book for too long. This book touched my heart in ways I honestly did not expect, I went from cracking up in the first half, to clutching my damn chest like wth, and when the hell did all of this happen?! Rivah and Kross had an undeniable connection, and I’ll never get over how their story was shared in such a beautiful way. No cheating, no mind games, no gaslighting, not having to take a man back 5011 times and get dragged through hell just to prove that you’re a good woman and worthy of respect because you stayed. Not the glorified version of love that we’re guilted into by unfaithful men, and even sometimes society as a whole. That entire trajectory is garbage, and Ms. Netra Antionette said nuh uhhhh, not Ms. Banks and Mr. Givelle, hunnie! ❤️❤️‍🔥🥹🤏🏾

Rivah could finally breathe and feel loved, valued, respected, soft. She is a wildcard, and Kross never once tried to change her, only love her exactly how she is, and show up for her wholeheartedly, without judgment, a reprieve from the life she endured. I loved that for my girl! 🫶🏾

Lastly, I absolutely loved the message of it all. It almost felt like I was reading an ode to women like myself, who have felt all the emotions Rivah felt, feeling like you’re too much for a man, for the world, for family, feeling undeserving and constantly needing to live a life rooted in survival mode so much, that you shut yourself out to the possibility of happiness in it’s purest form. 100000000000000/10 would highly recommend this book to anyone 🥹💓🥰⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rivah has been through it, okay? Life threw her some fake love and lessons wrapped in heartbreak, but she came out the other side walking in her light and doing things her way unapologetically. Her healing? Oh, it's intentional. It includes taking her “body count” into her own hands and blogging about the experiences with full honesty.

But listen… not everybody’s ready for that level of real. 👀

Her reviews start ruffling feathers, but just when she’s good in her groove, in walks Kross. And baby, the way this man was moving had her attention stuck. Real smooth, real direct, real “let me talk to you for a minute.” She set rules...but this man? He had her breaking every single one. 😩

Kross doesn’t just say the right things, he does them too. And what’s even scarier (and realer)? He’s getting through to her heart, the one she’s had in lockdown, wrapped in concrete. The one no one’s touched in a minute.

But here’s the thing: when that veil lifts… will she choose to hold on to what she truly wants—or fall back into protection mode and let it go?

Chile. THIS BOOK. The way Rivah and Kross were moving? Whewwww. It was giving sexy. It was giving grown. It was giving “this ain’t no little girl love story.”

And Netra?? Be for real. This NEEDS to be on audio because the way I was imagining Kross’s voice? I need to hear it in my ear. ASAP.

Body Count by Netra Antoinette is a love letter to women’s sexual empowerment

Have you ever had a this is my body and I can do who I want with it moment? No? And that’s probably because society place these crazy standards on women’s bodies and their sexualities while men are slanging ding-aling like crack in the 80s.

Have you ever linked with a guy and before you gave him some kitty wish you can read reviews from previous lovers like yelp or car fax? Well, our girl Rivah has our back. Sis is in her sex em and leave em era and helping out the girls who come after her with a blog where she rates her experiences and is letting us know there is nothing wrong with being sexually free. “Body count? Nah. Character development.”We love a girls girl.

Rivah is always in control…That’s until she meets Kross and Rivah might’ve bitten off more than she can chew.

Kross. Whew. That is a grown ass man and puts it down and let Rivah know from day one, he ain’t going nowhere so she might as well get comfortable. And that he is the one that is control.

This was such a fun read it was like I was on FaceTime chatting with my girls about their sexcapades. I mean there’s sex, romance and suspense, what’s not to enjoy with that combo.

BABYYYY, THIS BOOK?! STRAIGHT 🔥🔥🔥
Shoutout to Netra for the ARC, ’cause whew—you knew what you were doing! Release Date: 📅 7/17

Let me put it like this: Rivah is THAT girl. By day she’s teaching third grade, but by night? She’s dragging dusty men like Yelp reviews and blogging her truth like her healing depends on it. And honestly? It does. Her blog Body Count ain’t about bodies—it’s about boundaries, breakthroughs, and being DONE with the double standards.

This book came in swinging with all the energy of a Black girl reclaiming her time, her space, and her story. It’s giving “yes, I slept with him—now here’s what I learned.” It’s giving “you gon’ judge me anyway, so let me help you take notes.” It’s unapologetic, juicy, and laced with gems.

And then boom—Kross.
Tall, respectful, emotionally intelligent? Whew, Lord. That man is walking green flags in designer cologne. But just when you think it’s all vibes and vibe-checks, the bodies start dropping. MEN. ARE. DYING. And suddenly this blog ain’t just hot tea—it’s a full-blown murder mystery.

Throw in her loyal homegirls (Vane and Niv stay ready), emotional gut-punches, sexy slow burns, and plot twists that slapped me outta my seat—and baby, I was HOOKED.

This book ain’t just character development—it’s character REVOLUTION.
It’s for every woman who’s ever been called “too much” and decided to be even more.

🔥 One-click pre-order IMMEDIATELY

Rivah didn’t come to play. She came to reclaim. And I’m obsessed.

This is my first ever read by this author and I was not disappointed. We explore women in this book and their experiences and what comes with dating men in this world. Rivah was such an articulate and interesting person who was wild and unhinged mentally, spiritually and emotionally while the physical part was more ownership of her body her choice and letting other women know they have that right too and to not be ashamed about it. She was such a girls girl and I loved her for that. I loved how she read people for filth and got people together in an instant so classily 😂👌. She had such a way with words it made me just wanna keep reading. This woman knew exactly who she was and what she wanted and was unapologetic about it.

Now here comes the man that was made for her; matches her energy on point and more Mr. Krossli aka Mr. Big Steppa Kross. This man was not playing he was for Rivah from day one and has done some questionable things without a care for Rivah and I loved it 🤣👀. He was her peace and she was his ! He didn’t have to break down her walls and try to “tame” her he loved her the way she was and nurtured her spirit, they matched equivalently. Also the way they connected and came together was organic to me even if circumstances set it up they progressed and finished it together of their union.

This book was very good but to me had potential to be even more great I would have liked to see Rivah meeting the parents officially and intertwine with his family more and vice versa of him with her person vane. See her with her bestie too in more scenes felt like I didn’t see her much. Have more scenes on Kross family. Get more scenes of their foundation getting stronger after overcoming the trials. More about the blog stories of what’s to come after opening it up to guests. Niveah aka Niv was such an interesting person as well and I hope to see more of her too. But then again maybe it’s all left for another book to come hopefully or maybe it’s just meant to end and be like this.

I was satisfied and hope to read more of this authors work so check out the book and enjoy the ride !!

Body Count had me up late trying to finish as I couldn’t put it down! Netra is a naturally gifted storyteller. I was pulled in by the messiness of the blog and my feelings were being tugged as I kept reading - I cried a few times, but I’m a softy at heart.

I don’t do spoilers but I can say that if you want to read a story about a woman who is unapologetically herself and feels no need to bend, submit or dim her light for anyone - this is the book for you.

And let’s talk about Kross - A MAN who accepted her for who she was and did not care about nothing else. He liked her from the moment he saw her face and stood ten toes down about her. He’s complicated at times but you’ll come to understand why as the story progresses.

I loved the plot, the characters and the pacing. I felt full when I finished.

Netra, it was a pleasure to read about Rivah and Kross so thank you for the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’m so happy I got this ARC 😝

Baby, I ate this up. This book was entertaining as fuck from the very beginning. It’s a short read, but don’t let the length fool you…the short is giving.

It started off with us getting to know and love Rivah and how she became the baddie she is today. She’s a boss-ass bih who lives on her own terms and refuses to be defined by her body or what she chooses to do with it.

Then there were thriller aspects sprinkled in… and Netra just said, fuck it and emptied the whole damn bottle. There were moments where I literally had to pause and check the genre because I couldn’t believe the twists I was reading.

We had love, we had mystery, and we had some unhinged AF behavior. Rivah and Kross? I just love them. If he’s not unhinged like Kross, I don’t want him. Period.

I really enjoyed this and can’t wait for book two 👀

Now this is what i’d imagine a girls group chat is like. Babyyyy, This book was so tea!!!
From the dedication page I was hooked. I was literally reading this book as if I was talking to an imaginary homegirl giving her all the juicy tea!! I read this in one sitting and I was giggling, kicking my feet, blushingggg, and a whole lot of “and I ooop”. That man Kross belongs to me now, He’s MINE 😮‍💨🥰 that man don’t play bout his Rivah! The growth of Rivah was also one of my favorite things, chiiile I honestly didn’t think she could do it, but we are so proud of her!!! Now that plot twist!!!? I kinda had a feeling when Vane first called and told her, I thought to myself “could it be?…noooo” but you so locked in just oblivious to what’s going on. Girl this was so fun to read I can’t wait to start Body Language.

This book was PHENOMENAL! 10/10 would definitely recommend! You want messy?✅ You want a man that stands 10 toes down behind the woman that has his heart?✅ You want an FMC that says the quiet parts of the reality that most women spend their lives facing out loud?✅ This book brought all of these things together and told an amazing story of a woman who took the hand she was dealt and lived her life on her terms. Rivah was so relatable and real through out the entire book and stayed true to herself no matter what. When she fully thought she was cool off of love her comes Kross. And before you ask, no he did not swoop in like she was a damsel in distress. I absolutely loved this book and am so thankful to have been able to read an arc of it. 💜💜

ARC REVIEW:

I am OBSESSED with this book! MISTER KROSS WITH A K?!?! Yeah that is what you call an M A N. Every time his character spoke life into Rivah I couldn’t help but highlight it. This book shows it’s possible to be loved while you heal and that all you need is someone to SEE you to get through the hardest parts of healing. Kross made Rivah feel safe and protected and that was what everyone needs in a relationship. This book was funny, sexy, mysterious and honestly I PRAY there will be more of the G family! I IMPLORE you to pick this book up and enjoy the ride! *wink*

This story was so different but I ate up every bit of it. We love a story that embodies women empowerment but also allows the opportunity for said strong woman to be vulnerable and soft. Mr. Kross came thru and showed Rivah what it do, love that for my girl. This was a fun read, very entertaining. I loved how wild Rivah was lmaoooo

As you can see this book was chewed day in a day and I honestly am sick that there isn’t more to this story. I feel cheated.

First and foremost there were several warnings in the beginning of the book. HEAD THEM !

Although I immediately knew Kross was behind the foolery there was so much to the twist that had my little edges in an uproar.

It was the perfect amount of spicy
The perfect amount of honest
The perfect amount of humor

I wish there was more

"Body Count? Nah. This is Character Development."

Third grade teacher by day, naughty blogger by night. Rivah Banks anonymously blogs her encounters with men and OMG they read like a group chat with your girlfriends...pure comedy!! Rivah humbles men one blog post at a time, "rating them like Uber rides", until she meets Kross and is humbled in the sexiest way. It's all fun and games until the bodies of her past encounters start dropping and her blog becomes the hot spot for internet sleuths and bitter lovers. A time was HAD reading this!! It's hilarious, spicy, empowering, and sprinkled with a dose of whodunit. Highly recommend if you like darkish romances served with a side of comedy and suspense.
