The one-pot meal reinvented. It's amazingly convenient: Cook complete meals on one sheet pan (sometimes two).Amazingly tasty: Food actually taste better when cooked on a sheet pan, because it uses three techniques—roasting, baking, or broiling—that intensify flavor. And amazingly versatile: Recipes ranging from easy weeknight dinners to special-occasion meals, plus extras like snacks and sides, ten quick brunch dishes, and irresistible, brilliantly creative desserts.Simply amazing. “An ingenious book. It’s all the convenience of a slow-cooker, but the sophistication and creativity of a fine dining restaurant.” —Zoe François, author of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

Why wasn’t this cookbook written long ago? Never mind, I’m just glad that Molly Gilbert has finally written a book about cooking with sheet pans. Forget Indian tagines (clay pots), fancy Le Creuset Dutch ovens, $50 pizza stones, Williams Sonoma au gratin pans and all the other high-priced kitchen cookware that overflow our cabinets. All you need is an 18-inch-by-13-inch rimmed sheet pan. Or two.

With that $10 to $15 investment, you can use Gilbert’s wonderful cookbook to produce everything from Breakfast Berry Cobbler or Big Dutch Baby with Meyer Lemon Sugar for breakfast to Herbed Goat Cheese & Zucchini Tarts and Baked Crab & Corn Cakes with Tangy Aioli for appetizers to Classic Roast Chicken and Mustardy Potatoes for dinner to Carrot Layer Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting or Salted Rosemary Toffee Crunch for dessert. And for a mere $1.99, Sheet Pan Suppers: 120 Recipes for Simple, Surprising, Hands-Off Meals Straight from the Oven is a real bargain you can’t do without!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love cookbooks. I have a lot of them, and I read them all the time. I also cook from them constantly, so they are never a waste for me.

Being a mom of two little girls (a stay at home mom, thankfully, but a mom nonetheless), I enjoy cooking real food for my family, using real ingredients. Also, easy recipes with ingredients I can actually find are a plus, too...as is having recipes that use only one or two pans and make cleanup easy.

Enter "Sheet Pan Suppers" by Molly Gilbert. These recipes are amazing...and there's something in here for everyone. Since my husband is more picky than my children, there's even dishes I can make in here that I know that he will eat. For example, there are recipes such as Fajita flank steak with peppers and onions, crispy chicken strips and biscuits (which are two huge winners in my house), and even meatless varieties, such as Smoked cheddar and apple grilled cheese (another big hit at my house). This book doesn't stop there, either...it offers appetizers (although I don't tend to use anything from this chapter), side dishes, breakfasts, and desserts (dessert? On a sheet pan? Yes, please!).

The book itself is illustrated and beautifully presented, and the recipes are amazing. This is one of those books that I am going to find myself cooking from on a regular basis.

My sheet pans are definitely going to be getting a workout!

Are you as sick of playing the crock pot game as I am? Do you have better success with roasting? My answer to these questions is yes! This book is amazing and has so many wonderful recipes! I had started to mark pages that I wanted to photocopy, however it turned out to be most of the book! This will simply have to be a purchase for my personal collection of cookbooks. The roasting method is so simple I feel as though anyone can make these dishes. The author put a lot of thought into including a wide variety of recipes that are not simply desserts. She covers appetizers, various meats, and breakfasts. Nothing is too complicated and most of the ideas make my mouth water. I especially look forward to trying the Pecan "Fried" Fish, and the Spicy Brown Sugar-Rosemary Cashews recipes upon my purchase! I definitely recommend this cookbook to anyone.

This is my new favorite way to cook a meal for the family! Tasty recipes with standard ingredients maybe have to plan ahead for the protein and/or vegetables to include, but also easily adaptable to
what you have on hand in your pantry / refrigerator. I tried a few of the dinner and breakfast recipes, easy to follow instructions and super easy cleanup afterwards!

Favorites: Coconut shrimp with spicy orange dipping sauce, p. 16; Shakshuka (eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce) p. 198; pork tenderloin with squash, apples & onions p. 129

I need to stop reading cookbooks on Kindle and listening to poetry on audio. Neither translates effectively for the medium, imo.

I really liked this cookbook. Harkening back to my rating system for cookbooks:

Recipes I’d like to make:
Most= 3 stars
Some = 2 stars
Few = 1 stars

Other:
Compelling photography = 1 star
Emotional Connection = 1 star

For this book:
Recipes I’d like to make here: 2 stars (12 of 120)
Photography: 1 star
Emotional Connection: 1 star

Ergo, 4 star

The emotional connection was slight at times. But then she’d pop up with a throw back story about a music band or a hair style and I was right back there. She also made me laugh (often, she’s witty) so definitely deserving a full star.

Photography is difficult to rate on Kindle or digital but nearly every recipe had a pretty good photo. Some even had more than one, if trying to illustrate a technique (like what I’d call “breakfast Stromboli” but she said “ham & Swiss pastry braid”).

There are some cookbooks you can sit down and just read cover to cover like a novel. This is one of those. Molly Gilbert gives just enough story to make it interesting, not too much that you're thinking "come on already."

I find myself in the middle of a move with limited kitchen accoutrement, but a sheet pan always wins the day. She gives ideas with variety, simplicity, and enough sophistication to make dinner feel like something I can pull off until we find wherever I packed that garlic press and dutch oven and melon baller and ... ok, you get the picture.

But she's seriously saved me from another night of takeout and I suspect I'll continue to make her recipes long after I've found said melon baller.

This isn’t just a cookbook. I learned things about ingredients, pans, and ovens.

I gave it four stars because I don’t think that we would ever eat anything in there, for various reasons. They are allergies, sensitivities, and many of the ingredients are not in out price range.

This is a great, family-friendly cookbook with lots of low-fuss meals. I thought the apps and fish were the strongest chapters. Worth checking out for some low-effort weeknight meals.

I mostly appreciate this for good sauces that stand up to oven heat, and fish. I used to cook exclusively vegetarian and save fish as a restaurant treat, but have been learning to cook it a bit since COVID has ended restaurant trips for the time being. And this book has resulted in some very tasty, beginner-friendly fishies!

Found a few recipes that I think I'll try. I checked out a copy of this from the library. It was funny, because someone before me wrote all sorts of comments through out. Mostly what I got from those comments was that any time the meat and veggies are put in the oven at the same time, you incinerate the veggies. Something to be aware of.

This is a simple but really nice recipe book, filled with a variety of recipes(120 in total), covering meat, fish and veggie dishes as well as appetisers and sweet dishes too! It's definitely got dinner covered.

The recipes seem pretty easy to follow. There are some that are really simple, and aren't particularly exciting in my opinion, but a few of them actually gave me some ideas for flavour combinations that I hadn't thought of before.

The fact that you can make them all using one pan - nice and easy! There are different steps to most of the recipes, so you'll need to get the timings right - ie. put one ingredient in first then prep the others, then stick those on the tray too, but that's just a question of getting the timings right - and this recipe book takes care of that for you!

I've tried a few out and have been pleased with the results; some I've modified a little but and have been really impressed with the simplicity and ease of the recipes in Sheet Pan Suppers. This would make a great gift for someone going off to uni, too (though check their Halls of Residence has an oven in first, as many don't!). These recipes really save on washing up, too, which always pleases me!

Read my full review on my website, Ivory Owl Reviews : http://ivoryowlreviews.blogspot.com/2...

I love my slow cooker and despite the fact there are thousands of slow cooker recipes out there, there are only so many that I like. Sheet pan cooking allows for crispier outcomes versus softer outcomes from a slow cooker. These recipes are perfect for winter when I don't mind (and actually enjoy) having my oven on. I also like the idea of pulling supper out of the oven and everyone serving themselves from one sheet versus plating for the family or us all reaching over each other to make our plates from several dishes on the counter (we're not big kitchen table eaters.) This cookbook's layout and photos are beautiful! I had never heard of Molly Gilbert or her blog Dunk and Crumble before reading this cookbook, but I've added her to my blog roll. I would buy this book for myself, for a new cook, or as a housewarming gift. I definitely recommend this as an addition to everyone's cookbook library.

I can't even remember how I found this book, but it was on my list for the library so I checked it out.
Basically everything looks good in here! One thing I love is the idea of less dishes (how could that be bad?!).

I liked this so much that I'm going to make this a purchase. I'd recommend this puppy.
Just a friendly warning: DO NOT look at this if you're even a little bit hungry....learned this the hard way ;)

The design and photography was very good; the rounded corners added a little bit of charm. There were a number of appealing recipes, but the interest factor is obviously the preparation method rather than the recipes themselves. Also, with so many pictures on the left-hand side of the book, a lot of the recipes require turning the page, which is a headache in the kitchen.

Wish there were pictures for all the recipes, especially the ones that have unique pairings. There’s nice variety in this cookbook, but the majority of the flavor profile isn’t one we typically eat. I did flag a few recipes to try. I do appreciate her extra tips and instructions, and her suggestions for alternative flavor combinations.

Sheet Pan Suppers is a beautiful book to behold: all glossy photos and heavyweight papers, although I do wish it would lay flat so that I could more easily stay on the recipe. But, of course, the true test of any cookbook is the recipes. And the recipes look wonderful!

The first recipe I tried was Lemon & Herb Sole on Crispy Potato Rafts. Gilbert notes that haddock, halibut and cod are also good choices for this dish so I used the wonderful frozen cod I get from the “fish guys” who come to my door in their truck once a month. I substituted dried thyme for the fresh and I skipped the capers because I didn’t have any on hand. I’m sure that made some difference in the finished product but the recipe still came out a keeper.

My seven-year-old grandson whose usual comment on my cooking for the past year-and-a-half has been consistently only “good”, pronounced these potatoes as “GREAT”. I’d have to agree. As Gilbert says: “They’re hot and crisp and supremely garlickly, a noble base for the delicately light, flaky, herb-, lemon-, and butter-flavored fish fillets.”

One of the most interesting and entertaining cook books I have ever read! I read dozens of passages out loud to my husband and feel sure that Molly Gilbert and I are distant sisters. We seem to have had very much the same upbringing, although on different sides of the country. I would definitely recommend this book for the writing alone, first time I've ever done that.
Now, the recipes... I have tried 2 or 3 and thought they were great, but maybe needed a little tweaking or personalizing for my family. I have 15 or 20 more bookmarked on my kindle copy and will get to more of them this summer.

Unfortunately, for me, this is not the everyday practice go-to recipe book I was hoping for. Having said that, it is clearly presented with nice photos of the food and some interesting meal ideas. Roasted radishes sound interesting, I only thought they were eaten raw in salads. So not the easy throw it all in the book but rather a bit more adventurous and a bit more thoughtful. So for me only an occasional book.

Always happy to have a few more weeknight dinners in my recipe arsenal. The pleasant surprise here is that Sheet Pan Suppers is not limited to the dinner hour. It's also got breakfasts, brunch-worthy ideas, the expected dinner recipes, as well as desserts and/or baked items to gift to folks at the holidays. The recipes are well written, generously illustrated, and have helpful box text to call out particular tips, tools, or caveats. On deck at our house this week will be the herbed goat cheese and zucchini tart (p. 34), roasted sausage and red grapes with polenta and gorgonzola (p. 133), and the fresh brioche cinnamon rolls (p. 225).

This is the way I cook now. It never used to occur to me how easy and delicious it is to roast vegetables (no pot roast required!) until I tried a recipe in The Splendid Table. If you haven't had Brussels sprouts (with or without bacon) caramelized until all the sugars come out, you've not become acquainted with your new favorite vegetable. Of course there are more than vegetable recipes in this collection that showcases a healthier, more flavorful way to cook. Added incentive for Michiganders in the winter--a nice oven-warmed kitchen.

True to the subtitle, these seem very easy to make. I didn't write down any of the recipes, though: most recipes feature an ingredient combination that's outside my family's normal repertoire. We can each be a little adventurous; unfortunately, we're each adventurous in our own way. Other recipes seemed like real possibilities, but the oven time was too long for a regular weeknight meal.

The book is well-organized, the photos are lovely, and the instructions seem clear.

This book is really helpful. highly recommend
something which should be covered in the book.
when choosing a Microwave oven include the size and capacity of the oven, the type of heating element (gas or electric), the presence of a self-cleaning feature, and the availability of additional features such as a convection setting or a built-in broiler.

I have been making more sheet pan dinners lately and was looking forward to getting additional ideas from this book. However, I was disappointed that there weren't more complete dinners presented (the title was a bit misleading). Everyone knows that cookies are prepared on a sheet pan, along with sides and appetizers. The complete dinners were only a small percentage of this book. I loved the pictures, though, and the recipe creativity. I may try the acorn squash filled with salad.

I absolutely LOVE this cookbook! Low fuss meals and I have yet to make a recipe out of here that isn't fantastic. I skip a few of them and substitute some of the ingredients. Molly Gilbert has a wonderful wit to her writing, I actually read the "intros" to the recipes because she puts me in a good mood.

A good read -- I found some good recipes!

I do wish this book would have provided more pictures and more complete meals -- a lot of what was presented was a dessert or an appetizer or a side dish. Only a few of the dishes showcased could be considered complete meals -- main course with vegetables, etc.
