shows its age. Felt like there were racist overtones even just a couple pages in. DNF.

The preview takes up a lot of the ebook. The main story ends around fifty-something percent. I would have liked to see more of the two characters. I started to root for it after a bit which I did not think would happen. It was hot at times but a little sketch. Just the language the two used at each other at times was too much. When I started seeing the feelings there it changed it a bit.Could have used more with that ending, though.

I'm probably not gonna pick up Unprison honestly but that was a good preview. Like wow.

Heat, harsh language and nice red bottoms. Hmm.

It was touching to see how much he wanted to change the life his family had. Empowering to know that being away for so long and him wanting so badly to be I the straight and narrow, that he'd do anything, to help them. Now on the other note...how fun is a good spanking. This was a great quick read. :)

Well, this sure as hell wasn’t that interesting nor hot. I’ve read better sex scenes. The excessive amount of the words “fuck”, “asshole” and “fucker” annoyed me to no end. The author trying too hard to make her character sound “gangster” annoyed me to no end as well.

This one eeked me out. The power dynamic was too out of balance. If it would have happened after he was done with parole I would have been more ok with it. It felt too much like the parole officer was taking advantage of him. Time went by too fast as well. Seemed like it was time jumped.

Lol! This was probably the worst thing I've ever read in my life and I've read some pretty crappy books

The idea behind this though is gold. Done right this could be a great slow burn, hurt/comfort novel... 🤔

Short but sweet

I liked the sex scene. I also appreciated the thought process of the main character. His motivation and kinks made for a compelling read. I was on the edge of my seat.

Pretty streight forward erotica. Parole officer sees his parolee as a lost cause after a mistake they clear it up how you would expect in a spicy story. He makes another mistake and the stakes are raised.

An ok story.

The story was good. The sexy parts were hot. Kinda disappointed that the story ended at 50% though. Might still have to check out other books by this author.

A friend in need

The title makes the story sound darker than it is. The parole officer is using sex as leverage but he really is trying to help change his life for better

Intriguing

This story was nothing like I thought it would be. The characters were very interesting and unique. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

Update in 2021: So, I was going through books to rearrange shelves and I remembered this one. Not only did I remember it with a distinct lack of fondness, I got curious about the disparity (it was originally rated 3 stars!) and decided to open it again.

I hated it so much that I barely made it past the 6% mark before not only removing it from the device but actively going into my account and deleting it permanently. Everything from the stilted writing style to the horribly stereotypical voice (and backstory) given to the main character was just... nope.

Whatever mindplace I was in back in June 2019, I'm lowkey ashamed of it. This was just terrible and past-me was out of her fucking mind.

Original, now redacted, portion of my review from 2019 behind spoiler.

The rest of this remains from the original review with things I no longer feel stricken out:

I'm no idiot, and I know that the story was rushed at the end with the rest put in as page count filler. That's why, despite how good the first two thirds of the story was, I'm only rating it three stars. After the lackluster and rushed ending just before the halfway mark in the book is nothing but self-serving blathering from the author. They stop to complain about piracy of their ebooks and then ramble excessively about what inspired their other books and what the plots of those are.

In fact, there's an uncomfortable rant about how the author focuses so hard on making stories where coerced sex 'becomes consensual instead of rape,' and the characters 'come to truly love' their captors. The focus on how they make these situations romantic and loving is unnerving in that makes me question if they truly understand what consent is. The rules are different in fiction where nobody gets hurt, yes, but call a spade a spade. It's not consent if the person is pushed to do something they don't want to but ends up accepting their fate; it's a dark romance novel. Nothing wrong with that, of course, because it's not real, but don't try to take a moral high road with this subject matter.

After that comes more filler in the form of a too-much-information, somewhat self absorbed, ramble about the author. And at least four pleas to join the newsletter mailing list, buried in a run-on paragraph which lasts a page and tells us all about which fictional demons the author finds sexy. No, I'm not kidding. It also appears to have been intended for the ending of an entirely different book or part of an accidentally unedited copy/paste filler as it says: "If you enjoyed The Eidolon's Prey the kindest thing you could do for me is leave a 5 star review. This helps my ranking which in turn helps my sales. I really appreciate people who take the time to do this! <3" Last I checked, I had read The Parole Officer's Bitch.

From the 67% section onward is an excerpt from another of the author's prison romances and one where a straight roommate is seduced into gay sex. I only skimmed the first because I didn't like the narrating character's personality and I didn't even try the second because I have no interest in the plotline. After that is an extremely short excerpt from a demon/human romance; it was awkwardly written with the demon as a narrator.

I'd have rather had a proper ending for the book I actually chose than an entire half of this ebook being other stuff. I'm very disappointed.

This was such a hot short story!!! I loved every freaking minute of it. This author has one kinky mind and I adore it! I wish there had been more of an HEA for this story, or possibly a 2nd short story to give us some more insight.
But for a hotness factor it was through the roof!
The back story was there, to give you just enough of what you needed to know.
I really loved this.
It was nicely written.
Kinky.
Sorta Taboo.
I would love to read more!

Quick read, more thoughtful content than I expected

I was expecting some scenes that came together as a novella, where the characters pretty much make up the theme or story, but somehow this short novella found time to explore the parole system, how hard it can be to get a legit job, to save money... so many of the aspects that create the situation both of these characters are in.

1.5 stars...

The premise had the potential to be good but this was just kinda meh. Everything felt rushed like the idea formed in the authors head and was put to paper just to be put to paper before it was completely hashed out.

This just not for me.
