Huh. I had no idea that Viv Daniels was Diana Peterfreund's alter ego. I probably would have read this earlier, but then again, I probably wouldn't have gotten quite what I expected, either.
Hear Me is a New Adult (urban?) fantasy novella with a great big heaping spoonful of romance.
It's short enough that I could easily ruin the plot if I explain too much, but it centers around two childhood sweethearts from different...backgrounds...that find their way back to each other.

I'm not a huge fan of books that center around the sex, but this one had an interesting story to go with it. And Hear Me also felt pretty well thought-out for a novella, so I was mostly happy with it.
If you're looking for something a little different in a short romance novel, then this would fit the bill nicely.

I will say there's a part about his semen being evil that sort of freaked me out, but if you want to know any more about that, you'll just have to read the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy of the book, in exchange for an honest review.

Viv Daniels aka Diana Peterfreund always manages to surprise me with her novels - there's always some sort of science or brainy/cool idea in them, and this paranormal new adult romance is no different.

Hear Me is the story of 20 year old Ivy Potter, who has been missing her childhood friend and lover Archer, for three years. Archer is of the forest nearby, and three years ago, the townspeople of Ivy's town decided that the forest folk were getting too ensconced in dark magic and erected a barrier of bells - the bells having a sound that deters forest people. Unfortunately, the barrier's effect is also painful to some of the townspeople who have forest blood in them - including Ivy, whose forest mother abandoned her and her townie father. Ivy's father helped create a special tea that helps townies like her alleviate the effects of the bells, and that has become her job - to help people in town get by using the tea. Unfortunately, Ivy is also desperately lonely as her father died a few years ago and she's still in love with Archer. The story begins as a rent is made in the barrier - and who should come out but Archer.

I've been reading a decent amount of romance lately, so the sexytimes in this book didn't surprise me (although they were steamy as heck) - nor did the fact that Viv brilliantly created a paranormal world with its own rules of magic in about two chapters (no vampires, werewolves, etc here!).

What surprised me was how dark and creepy this novella was despite being a romance. Maybe it was because I was reading at night, but whoa, did this book scare me. I'm not usually scared by paranormal stuff, but the way that things grow, twist, turn, and go bump in the night in this book had me freaked out. Add to that a very dark hero and you have something I just...did not expect.

Psychologically, Hear Me goes into some really dark places with Archer and Ivy...places I was occasionally kind of uncomfortable with. I've never been a fan of bad boys, and while Archer isn't one...some of his behaviour borders on scary. It's explained well, and it definitely works with the creepy and dark themes of oppression of magic and race in the book, but as someone who likes her feet firmly planted on the ground, I'm not sure it worked for me.

Still, I can't fault Viv with not following through. The descriptive writing had me scared, the characters were compelling, as were the more subtle themes of preserving nature in a world filled with technology.

If you're interested in reading a dark wintertime paranormal romance for the holidays, this one is for you. Pick it up everywhere ebooks are sold for under $3 (or if you're more into contemporary romances, check out Viv's new adult, One & Only).

170 page novella.

Very good. This is a pretty steamy fantasy about a town situated near a dark forest inhabited by "forrest folk" who have magical abilities. The town is encased by magic that is suposed to protect the people from dark magic and evil that was said to be coming from the forrest.

Before the barrier was erected, forrest folk and town folk interacted, but after the barrier, they were cut off from each other.

The heroine is a "townie" and the hero "forrest folk." As teens they fell in love, giving each other their virginity as well as their souls to one another..until the barrier was raised which separated them from each other for three years, until the hero finds a way using black magic to break through the barrier to reunite with his beloved.

I really liked the story, it was for the most part well written, but a bit repettitive at times at recounting past memories (thus lowering it down a star).

The H & h were both likable strong and well developed. The secondary characters were ok, and the antagonists were pretty good as far as complex, they could have been better, but for a short story I suppose the author did as best they could with the amount of pages they had.

I would have liked to seen this as a full length novel...again left with wanting more.

I liked it very much and would reccommend this to others who enjoy tales of fantasy and romance.

Ivy lives her life remembering Archer, he one and only love who was lost to the forest. Years ago, the town erected the Bells to prevent the forest people from coming back to their town, frightened by dark magic. It was then that Ivy and Archer were separated. When Ivy finds a naked Archer, everything changes. Archer needs help but can Ivy trust him, add in to the story the bells have stopped and the town is not wanting to sit idly to see what happens.

Interesting story, it had you guessing about Archer. I liked the idea of this story had a unique plot line and I was intrigued by Archer. Checking out more of this authors books.

Hear Me was a quick and addictive read, I seriously couldn't put it down. Sometimes with a steamy read, you get writing that borders on mediocrity and not with this book. Viv Daniel's writing is brilliant!

"Maybe there was a place where the people were safe, where Archer and his kin had carved out a place free from danger. Or maybe the dark magic her father had feared had consumed them all, and turned the only boy she’d ever loved into a monster beyond reckoning."

And what I loved about this story was the fantasy element of the forest!! *throws confetti in the air*

Archer, came from the forest and fell in love with Ivy, a townie. But as life would have it, they were separated and so begins all the drama of being reunited.

There’s a certain darkness when it came to Archer that I thoroughly enjoyed and I wished that could have been explored more. Also, when Ivy and Archer gave in to their carnal desires *snickers* (don’t mind me…I crack myself up) it was quick and unexpected which felt jarring, the tension would have lasted longer.

The pacing was quick, almost too quick and had it been a full length novel vs. a novella, I don’t think I would have had issues with that or even with Archer and Ivy’s intimate moments. Actually, the more I think about it the more I know that this book had no business being a short story. *sigh*

I’m not one to re-tell a story because I’m incredibly lazy *shrugs* but the less you know, the better off you are. Who doesn’t love being pleasantly surprised? *wink*

“She just had to be careful and clever and brave. She could be Puss in Boots; she could be Jack the Giant-Killer. She knew all the rules. Her father had taught her when she was just a girl, and her father knew everything about the forest.”

Reading Hear Me is like being in a dream because the imagery is creepy and beautiful which was the best thing about the book! Despite its flaws, I still highly recommend it! ♥

cw: illness, death, grief

Honestly, the magic and plot didn’t hold my interest it should’ve, but I did like the characters and that was enough to push me through. I like their discussions and their intimate moments together. I think an audiobook for this would be great!

***Disclaimer: I received a free Kindle copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.***

Ivy is a 20 year old girl living on the edge of a forest rumored to be filled with dangerous magic and beautiful forest folk. In order to protect the town from it's magical neighbor, the town council decides to erect a boundary in order to keep the town and forest separate. Unfortunately, many in the town and forest have grown to love each other and the magical barrier separates them from their lovers. Ivy is part of this unfortunate group.

When Ivy is 17 the barrier separates her from her childhood friend turned lover, Archer, and she grudgingly accepts this separation because her father tells her that dark magic is brewing in the forest making it unsafe for the nonmagical townspeople. Further adding to her misery is the fact that the barrier's bells create insufferable headaches for both herself and the townspeople who posses forest blood. Luckily, Ivy is a talented botanist and is able to make a medicinal tea in order to ease their symptoms. Yet, Ivy is miserable without Archer and grows tired of suffering through an unhappy and, thanks to the bells, painful life. Just as Ivy is about to give up on the town for good, an unexpected visitor appears on her front step-Archer. However, Archer is not who she remembers him to be and his revelations regarding the forest leave her questioning her father and the townspeople she thought she could trust. Plus, Archer's unexpected arrival reawakens feelings Ivy thought she had been able to discard years ago. Ivy is thus placed in the position to discover the truth about both the forest's magic and her own feelings.

Overall, this story is a good read. It's a fairy tale that 20-somethings can sink their teeth into, due to its dark magic and passionate romance. Archer and Ivy's love for each other leaves the reader rooting for them to succeed so they can have their happily ever after. Additionally, Ivy is a protagonist who is more than capable of taking care of herself, which is refreshing, especially in a fairy tale esque book. Plus, she was not a virgin at the start of the story, which I loved because new adult is overrun with virginal women, which sends readers the message that women's value is connected to their virginity, which is obviously not the case. Ivy also manages to trudge on after losing Archer, even though it hurts her deeply. It was fantastic to see a young woman in a novel mourn for a lost love, without losing herself and her life in the process.

I found the writing of the book to be a bit off for the time period. It wasn't until I was decently far along in the book that I realized that this book took place in the 21st century. The dialogue and narration made it seem like it was set in a time quite long ago. Also, while I liked the story, there wasn't anything exceptional about it that made me think it was going to be a book I would remember for a long time after finishing it.

I would recommend this book for those in the mood for a more adult fairy tale read. Also, since it's quite short, there is really no reason not to buy a copy of this book if you're at all interested in the premise!

The town raised an enchanted barrier of bells to keep out the growing evil but that kept Ivy away from Archer whom she belonged to body, heart and soul, but a terrifying magic has bloomed, one that can reunite them or consume their very souls in this fairy tale romance.

The reader can’t help but get pulled in to the emotional turmoil that flows from the pages from the very beginning of the story as it grips readers with its intensity. It’s obvious that what was done may not have been in everyone’s best interest as these compelling characters draw readers into this story that has a bit of a chilling side as well as a magical side. The chemistry between Archer and Ivy sizzles and the sex scenes are hot and steamy but this relationship has been through the wringer and has a major obstacle that only love can overcome.

The steady paced, smooth flowing plot captivates readers with lots of suspense and romance with spine tingling tension building as the bells stop ringing which causes quite the stir from the townsfolk as they wonder just what crossed into the town when the barrier failed. The well written scenes paint vivid images that capture the imagination while the intriguing events ensure that the readers wants to know the whole story.

First, let me say that the overall plot is intriguing and refreshingly different, the story has an historical feel although its not so I guess I would say it gives off a fairy tale or otherworld feel, it’s full of magic and mystery which captured my interest right from the start and I really enjoyed the story but was left with the impression that there should have been more to it, not sure what that “more” should have been though, because it had all the right elements including the fairy tale ending.

I really enjoyed Hear Me. It is the perfect book to read during the cold winter months. There is adventure, magic, romance, and great world-building. It's pretty short and I would have liked it to be longer, but I think that just shows how much I was enjoying the story.

And just look at that cover! Wowza.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal romance, or even those who like fantasy and want to dip their toes into the romance genre.

I completely adore Diana Peterfreund's fantasy works; to my surprise, I wasn't terribly impressed by her NA work. Sure, there is a delightfully creepy background of dark magic and an isolated town seeped with prejudice.

The story revolves heavily around the protagonists, both of whom I couldn't connect to. The author spends inordinate amount of pages describing the golden, young days of their love a.k.a loads of sex scenes.

Completely underwhelming..

Good book. But would have loved to read Archer's point of view and read about how Ivy and Archer met and what kind of equation they had before everything happened.

I haven't read any fantasy books in a while and Hear M by Viv Daniels from the synopsis felt like the perfect mix of new adult romance and fantasy to wet my appetite. I like a book that gives me enough froma synopsis that I have an idea of what's going to happen but not too much that I don't need to read it at all. I never expected to be so drawn in by a book, yet Hear Me captured my one night and didn't let do till I read the final words!

Hear Me tells us the story of Ivy and Archer. Ivy is half human and half forest magic (Her mother came from the forest) and is in love with Archer (A whole forest boy) who she was separated from when the Bells were erected a few years before. That may make you feel like you are going to know exactly what is going to happen in this book, but do not make judgements so quickly. Hear Me has a few twists in it which I didn't see coming and some really interesting characters.

Ivy was totally likeable, in fact she made me laugh out loud on more than a few occasional. Viv Daniels really seemed to get the idea that even when we are in certain situations, completely unsuitable thoughts do cross our minds and Ivy's straying eyes made me laugh out loud! I also loved how Archer came across in so many different ways that I really wasn't sure what way the story was going to go.

I especially loved the ending though and thought the name choosing was completely and utterly perfect. In fact, its probably what really made the journey complete for me. Although I can't say Hear Me will make me want to start reading more paranormal books again, I can say it is a beautiful story that truly captivated me and made me read it from start to end in one sitting (Yes, my other half did have to make all coffee/tea refills and also make sure the children went to bed). I gave Hear Me 4 stars from Viv Daniels and thoroughly recommend it. I feel those looking for a new adult paranormal/fantasy cross over will love it and those who already like a little fantasy in their lives will enjoy it too. A great book and with the snowy setting it really did make it feel like it was nearer Christmas here too!

First posted at The Fake Steph Dot Com.

I received this book for free Mark My Words Publicity in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Thoughts: I want to start by saying that I think there are people who will absolutely love Hear Me by Viv Daniels. At 200 pages, it is a very quick read with a sweet romance, a happy ending, and a great message that love conquers all. (I don't think the happy ending is a spoiler because I can't imagine anyone picking up this book not already expecting that.)

It's an enjoyable read. It just wasn't for me.

The main plot takes place over only a couple days and has a lot of backstory introduced throughout. Part of this backstory is the main couple, Ivy and Archer, falling in love as teenagers. Neither of them had moved on from their first love, even after three years, so Hear Me is more about them dealing with what kept them apart than it is about rekindling romance. It was hard to feel invested in their relationship when I didn't get to see them fall in love.

I also wanted more from every part of the story outside of the romance. For example, the town is seeped in prejudice and distrust for forest folk, which adds a lot of conflict, but is resolved incredibly easily in the last few pages. The town did a complete 360, and it made the happy ending ring false for me. Additionally, Ivy learns something heartbreaking about her late father and it was hard to see her deal with it when the story takes place over such a short amount of time. It never felt emotionally resolved for me.

O.O moment: All the time the townsfolk treated Ivy like a child, especially when the men in charge of the town denied Ivy her rights.

Favorite moment: Any scene that involved Jeb, Ivy's old neighbor, who is maybe a little more observant than she would like.

Overall: Cute, but it felt like the last third of a story instead of the whole thing.

Hear Me is a dark fairy tale-esque story from New Adult author Viv Daniels, who has written some awesome YA fantasy/sci-fi stories as Diana Peterfreund. Basically, if you think that dark fantasy story + sexy adult action equals a win, I suggest you check out this book.

Hear Me definitely contains all the things you might expect when you think of fairy tales and fantasy horror stories. This book may contain a hot romance, but it’s so much more than that. It has the morality element of good versus (supposed) evil, the old ways versus the new theme (modernity and technology encroaching, etc), plus the sense of The Other. This isn’t a super long book, more like a longer novella, so it’s impressive that Viv manages to include all these things alongside an interesting plot and that sexy romance.

The story is in third person, but it's a close third person, so while we don't completely get in Ivy's thoughts, we’re still able to get to know her and understand her motivations for the most part. How Ivy feels for Archer is quite beautiful. The Archer we meet is different from the Archer Ivy fell in love with, but he's still pretty delicious. The glimpses of the "real" Archer show us how sweet and attractive he is, inside and out.

Setting-wise, Hear Me is extremely interesting. This is a modern fantasy, but even though Ivy’s village is set in our real world it’s also very much a fantasy setting. The village has a sense of isolation to it, a part of the real world, but also not really. The forest beside the village is a place of magic without modern technology. Both the separation of these two worlds and how they intermingled fascinated me.

Overall I was very intrigued by this story, and I couldn’t wait to see how it all turned out. Viv Daniels has proven here that she can craft a good fantasy and tell a fulfilling story within a short amount of pages.

Disclosure: I received a free Kindle copy of this from the author, though all she asked was that I leave a review.

First, I love Viv Daniels. (I also love Diana Peterfreund, which is her actual identity, but Viv Daniels is the alter ego she writes her New Adult work under.)
She is, plain and simple, a damn fine writer. Stories and plots that might seem schlocky or ripe for overwrought cliche are, in her hands, deftly handled. Her work always feels sincere and emotionally honest. Yes, that is a hard thing to find in today's world. [See: all the rest of NA, with only a few notable exceptions.]

Hear Me is, like her other work, just wonderful. It's a great story, one about the lost love of youth and trying to reclaim it within the confines of a complex, adult world. Ivy lost the boy she loved when her town erected a magical barrier between the village and the forest in which dark magic was said to be building and threatening the town. Now, as an adult, she lives beside the barrier and leads a quiet life, remembering and resignedly longing for Archer, the boy who chose the forest over her.

When the barrier is destroyed and she finds Archer wounded, lying in the snow, she learns that everything she thought she knew about him, about the forest, and about her deceased father has been terribly, horribly wrong, and she will risk herself to save Archer, but also to save herself.

Daniels creates a beautiful world here, one not entirely unrecognizable from our own, which adds a nice verisimilitude. Furthermore, the lure of a man who wants you to save him is a powerful thing, indeed, and the book is delightfully hot and steamy. Yet... Ivy is a strong, clever character, one who avoids the trite 'damsel in distress' trope. And Archer is complicated, and at times brutal, but the novel avoids the misogynistic, abusive "it's all okay because it's romance" bullshit that plagues this genre. And for that alone, I want to stand on my chair and applaud Viv Daniels.

I really enjoyed reading Hear Me, although it wasn't anything like I had anticipated. The book was really well written, very clean grammatically, and I found the premise very interesting.

That being said, I should tell you that I pretty much always struggle while reading novellas, as I am often left with unanswered questions and generally wanting more from the story. My experience with Hear Me felt akin to looking through a scope at a subject, and being unable to get a clear view of anything surrounding it.

The setting descriptions were beautiful, and I could see it pretty clearly, but some of the character descriptions were a little vague for my tastes. Archer was described very well, but I found myself struggling to picture Ivy throughout the entire story. And I found it strange that almost all of her childhood memories surrounded her and Archer's physical relationship, and that she never talked about any detailed memories of her mother or even her father and Archer spending time together with her. That could've been because the story was shorter, too.

Overall, I really liked this story. I wish I could dive into Viv's mind and see every single detail about her forest folk. I would've loved to know more about their abilities and such, but this truly is a beautiful story and very well written. I also liked that it wasn't primarily a holiday story, if that makes sense? It takes place during the colder months, right around the Winter Solstice, but there isn't a particular holiday theme to it, so you can cozy up with this tale anytime and feel right at home. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this author in the future!

I really enjoyed Hear Me by Viv Daniels. I read the book in one day and loved every minute of it. The story takes place in a world much like ours but they have beings that have magic. Like many other fey tales Iron hurts them and the human world can weaken and kill them. The setting of the story is in a small town that borders the forest that keeps the Fey-like beings safe. However, the humans start to fear the fey and build a fence to keep them in their forest and away from them, thus, cutting them off from the rest of the world. Once the fence is up the half fey humans are struck sick from the fence made of bells.
The story starts up three years after the fence has been put up. The people of the town still fear the fey and want nothing to do with them. The half fey have learn how to handle the sickness caused by the fence. Ivy the heroin of the story is easy to like and sympathize with. She is trying to move on with her life after losing the love of her life, Archer a fey. The night we meet Ivy she finds Archer has broken through the fence and is in need of her care. Sparks fly like old times and the draw between them can’t be denied.
Archer has given his self over to dark magic to break through the fence. He does this to save the lives of those he holds close. However, he also has done it to see Ivy one last time.
As the story progresses lies are exposed and hearts are mended.
I really like this story it was easy to get into and enjoy. The author does a great job of illustrating a story that is so easy to fall into. This story has PNR in it but is not the total story. Therefore, if you are not PNR reader you will still enjoy this read.
I give this book 4 stars.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this paranormal novella with its mix of romance, magic and creepiness. Combining love with dark magic, sacrifice and prejudice, this story is dark and chilling at times, while sweet and surprising at others. At the heart of it is Ivy, who has loved and trusted two men in her life – and been abandoned by both. Or so she thinks. Until Archer returns and she no longer knows what to think. Confusion reigns supreme for Ivy throughout most of this book, as she tries to understand why Archer has returned and just who he is now, amongst steamy scenes in the greenhouse.

I’ll admit that while I did enjoy the darker tones in this book, they were quite vague. I didn’t fully understand just what Archer’s great solstice curse was, and to be honest the whole sex-cure and ending felt just a bit too convenient for me. Then again, if this had been as dark as it potentially could have been, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did.

A quick, absorbing read about the power of real love, with a hint of the nature of curses and the evil of strong prejudice, this is a good paranormal novella with a nice amount of heat. I had the Carol of the Bells running through my head the whole time I was reading – I think it helped.

3.5 Stars in my Sky!

I'm not 100% sure how I'd classify Hear Me. It's a New Adult paranormal/fantasy/romance crossover novella, which sometimes reads like a sinister fairy tale but in modern times. The idea of magic against technology and the isolated wood, reminded me of movie The Village in places.

It's very difficult to discuss the plot without posting spoilers so I'm going to be as brief as possible. Hear Me focuses on childhood best friends/former sweethearts Ivy and Archer. We meet them as they are reunited after a traumatic and lengthy separation. As the blurb suggests, Archer is a forest boy. I kept imagining a grown up Peter Pan mixed with a slightly scary fairy.

The book is New Adult, not YA, so it covers more adult topics and sex. Ivy is desperate to see anything of the forest boy she loved, but Archer is definitely darker and wilder than she remembers. I wasn't exactly sure what to make of a certain um... substance, but I guess it did make sense within the realms of the story (albeit bizarrely).

I enjoyed the novella and would have like to have read a full book about them and their past - I did feel as though a few of the secondary characters needed more page space but I enjoyed this short story.

Hear Me is the first book I have read by this author, I was gifted a copy to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

I get offered loads of paranormal/fantasy books and I love the genre but very few appeal to me. The blurb for Hear Me tickled my pickle and I’m soooo glad that I decided to read it.

This book is such a cool idea!!! I’m completely drawn to the forest people idea and this whole fantasy world really intrigues me.

Archer is just the sexiest little dark lord ever!!! This book manages to be incredibly sexy but also dark and fully of fantasy goodness.

Ivy is adorable and she has an inner strength than poured out of her and made her both a sensitive soul and a kickass women all in one.

I got complete drawn into this world and I was gutted when the story finished, I would have loved for this to be the start of a series. I was not ready to say goodbye to Archer and Ivy and it’s been a long time since I’ve got so into a story that I didn’t want it to end.

This story is magic but it’s not your typical witches and wizards. The idea that the magic is part of the forest should be obvious but instead it’s a cool different twist on this genre.

I really got into this book it was fab.

For an eBook of not even 200 pages, Hear Me sticks with me, a good 7 months after I finished reading it. In one sitting. Viv Daniels (Diana Peterfreund) has cemented herself as an absolutely extraordinary writer and story crafter. Typically when I go about “topic-tagging” a book, as I call, it there are usually about 10 to 15 that I assign, 5 to 10 for the books that are not at all complex or intriguing. This one? 33. That’s on par with a good series and, it weighs in at only 170 pages.

I had previously written off New Adult as being just “young adult with a steamy sex scene thrown in.” Does Hear Me fulfill that? Yes. If there was an R rating for books, this would have it. But Hear Me does so much more than tell the tale of loner Ivy and her aching, Archer loving heart – it explores the themes of oppression and racism, self-loathing and self-acceptance, desperation and sacrifice, all in the name of love, and in a world that is far from kind and frequently cruel and unjust. So, as is often the question with New Adult these days it seems, does it need the sex? No. Does the steaminess make it more enjoyable? Maybe. Does Viv Daniels do an expert job in telling an interesting, intriguing, and thought-provoking story? Absolutely.

I received an ARC from TNT Reviews in exchange for an honest review.

We have town folk and we have forest folk and then we have the "blend" the forestownies as I call them. Ivy would be the perfect example if a forestownie...her father was a townie but her mother was from the forest.
The town folk and forest folk lived together in harmony. That is ,until some of the town folk  felt that some of the forest folk were going dark with their magic so they were "banished" and a barrier was put around then town to protect them. The downside to that was, although the bells kept forest folk out the "forestown" also suffered due to the forest blood running through their veins.

Fotunatly Ivy's dad developed a tea that will alleviate the pain caused by the bell sound.
Poor Ivy , my heart aches for her , she must be lonely, her mum abandoned her and her father passes on and her best friend Archer has be gone for 3 years.

Then unexpectedly Ivy and Archer's paths cross and their chemistry is like molten hot larva.
I like Archer's dark side and the forest with all its elements...sounds like a place I could call home!

A ★★★★ read !

This is a story about two people separated by a physical barrier which is either magic or a miracle, depending on your viewpoint. The 'townies' fear the 'forest folk' and when dark magic started leaking into their town, they decided to put a barrier up to keep out the darkness. At least, that's the story that Ivy believes.

The tale unravels a list of deceptions and prejudices whilst dealing with dark magic and sacrifice. It also deals with love and how deep a love can go, even when circumstances aren't exactly light and fluffy.

It was well-written with no plot holes that I found. The only thing that I found jarred me slightly was the mention of modern technology but that just helped to emphasise the differences between the townies and the forest folk.

A wonderful story that enthralled me, definitely recommended.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

This was a great book. A new take on the supernatural.
I like stories about the Fae and the forest they live in.
This story is about how Ivy and the town she lives in.
How the cursed bells that have rung for the last 3 years have
kept her and her one and only Love apart. And how the find
each other again. Now she just has to find a way to banish
the darkness in him and keep her love this time. As she will
not be without him again if she has anything to do with it.
Viv Daniels has a way of pulling you in so you are
emotionally vested in the story. I really love stories about true
love, and how true love can concur all.
Even the evil in in the hearts of man.
I hope you enjoy this book as Much as I did.

I loved that Hear Me is written in a way that is both Dark and Enchanting. The setting of the town with the magical forest at it’s borders gives everything that mystical vibe. Even though we don’t travel far in the book, I could picture Ivy’s shop, greenhouse and the wall of bells perfectly in my mind. It gave my brain that cozy feel.

I loved the story. It was fascinating to me how things unfolded as we uncover the true motivations of people in the town. Even those close to home and what has happened to the Forest Folk since the town put up the wall.

Archer is swoony and Ivy is tough as nails. This story has a beautiful heart of how love can be a guiding light in darkness.

A great Holiday read.

Novellas don't tend to work for me but I did find myself enjoying Hear Me.

Hear Me is a dark fantasy story from New Adult author Viv Daniels aka Diana Peterfreund. We meet Ivy who is half human and has half forest magic and she is in love with Archer, a boy from the forest who she was separated from when the Bells were erected. The characters were interesting and despite thinking I knew what would happen, the plot twists surprised me which I enjoyed. I also liked the tension and chemistry between the characters, you could feel their connection.

Great writing and an engaging story. Had this been a full length novel, I think I would have rated it higher. I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

Ooh, fae and New Adult genres, mashed together into something surprisingly good and eminently readable. If you've read my reviews before you'll know I'm extremely picky when it comes to faeries. But Daniels' woodland folk (faeries or fairies are never actually mentioned) are just dark enough to hold my interest, and the magic that she gives them feels real enough to perk me up. Mix all that up with some hot action and Hear Me becomes a quick but really good read. It's a novella, which I normally hate, but it's a pretty long one, meaty enough to satisfy me. There's some interesting mythology and world-building, a well-paced story for a novella, and it makes me want to read more of Daniels' work.
