Their deaths will represent the birth of something much more dangerous. Something that shows the beauty in her darkness, her rebirth and her transformation; the black lotus
Serena I'm in love with the man of my dreams, literally. The only red flag I see? His mother wants me dead. Since she's still locked behind bars, she put a hit out on my head and sent who knows how many notorious serial killers to do her dirty work for her. She doesn't even know me, or what I'm capable of. But if she wants a fight, then a war is what she will receive. After all... everyone has a secret.
Aster By planning to have my vixen killed, my mother put the nail in her own coffin. One she might as well have already been in somewhere six feet under. She may be the woman who raised me to be the monster I am, but she's no longer the most important person in my life. I've already broken all my rules for Serena and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to keep her alive. If that means this fox has to kill a million lambs, so be it.
This is book 2 in a duet and can't be read without reading book one first; The Blue Rose. This book is only for 18+ Please check all the TW before diving in, which can be found on all social media platforms and my website. Your mental health matters!
5 Diabolical and Mind-blowing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I absolutely loved the first book in this duet and thought there was no way the author could top it! Boy did she prove me wrong! This book was everything I was expecting and so much more. K. Cardella is such an amazing author, and I will literally read anything she writes. She is an Auto-Buy Author! I can't give too much away about this book without ruining book one. However, I will say that this book picks up right where book one leaves off following our favorite couple: Serena and Aster. In this book we get to see more of the mysterious Zephira and let's just say I absolutely love her character!
What to Expect 🔪Dark Romance 🔪Morally Black Characters 🔪Serial Unaliver Couple 🔪Trauma Bonding 🔪Revenge Era 🔪John Wick Vibes
First, I just want to say how much I loved the character development and growth of Serena. She really explores and finds herself in this book which I love. There were twists and turns at the end of every chapter, and I could not put this book down for the life of me. I had to know what was going to happen next. Let's just say my jaw was on the floor multiple times while reading this book. Then we have Serena and Aster, who are literally chef's kiss! Their relationship and bond are everything and the spice and chemistry is through the roof. You have to read this amazing duet but make sure you read The Blue Rose first! I promise you will not close the book disappointed!
if you love all things dexter and spooky serial unalivers, then this is the perfect duet for you.
what happens when your own mother wants to end your gf? The one who opened you up to more ... who showed you endless possibilities of happiness after just trying to appease the demons your parents created?
The number of twists this book has will have your jaw on the floor .

The Black Lotus was not what I was expecting...it was MORE! We get the rest of Serena and Aster's story, but by golly, they had to get through some sticky situations amongst other serial ☠️. So it was touch-and-go for a hot minute! Definitely read book 1, The Blue Rose, and then swiftly grab The Black Lotus. You won't be disappointed.
Now to "patiently" await more about Zephira's story. I smell a poly-glorious situation in the future! 😏
I knew this book would speak to my soul when I read the dedication 🥹 After reading The Blue Rose, I already fell in love with Aster and Serena. I’m pleased that their journey continued in The Black Lotus. All the bloodlust, obsession, revenge, devotion and untouchable love for each other was front and center. There are many ways I feel I can relate to Serena, the top characteristics being the constant trying to behave and continual banter. Not only does this book fulfill my dark romance needs, but it’s also full of mystery and paints exciting scenes. I mean a sword fight?!? Yes, ya’ll! And it’s EPIC. The introduction of the various characters was brilliant and I enjoyed seeing other relationships both bloom and be destroyed. I can’t wait to read what’s next while I wait for my own partner to mark and claim me forever. ♥️🔪
“You are the one person who consumes me completely.” If these words are ever uttered to me, I swear I’ll die.
I loved the first book so much that I got to ARC read the second book. Wow, K. Cardella did it again!!!!!!! Most of the time the first book in a series/duet is the best to me. It typically is hard to beat, but this author knocked it out of the park on this one. As I truly loved The Blue Rose, I will have to say that The Black Lotus had me just as mesmerized. This book two is the continuation of the story of Aster and Serena and picked up right where book one left off. This serial killer duo and their stories of pain that made them who they are and how it all brought them together will almost make you fall in love with them despite all the bad things they do. If you love dark romance, spice and family drama then this is for you. I promise it will NOT disappoint. I just wish there was more. I loved it and didn’t want it to end. This author definitely knows how to keep her audience captured! Thank you from the bottom of my heart K. Cardella for letting me take this journey with you.
I have some VERY mixed feelings on this one. The Black Lotus is the finale of the Fatal Florals duet, and I so badly wanted to love it as much as I loved Blue Rose...but unfortunately, this one was a miss for me.
I DEVOURED book 1. It became my #1 dark serial killer romance ever. I'm always here for that. Blue Rose was gory, hilarious, twisted, and fast-paced. I couldn't put it down. But from the moment Aster’s sister was introduced at the end of book 1 (a plotline that felt random and unnecessary), I had doubts that carried into book 2.
Truthfully, The Black Lotus was a struggle to get into and even harder to stay motivated to finish. It took me weeks — not just days — actually almost one full month to get through, and this was an ARC I was super hyped for. So, I powered through as much as possible to leave a detailed and honest review.
That said, around the 20% mark, the story started to click again. I did enjoy seeing Aster and Serena evolve as a killer duo. Their banter is darkly adorable as they’re literally dismembering people and turning them into art, but somehow it still felt lighthearted and funny in a twisted way. I genuinely laughed at, “You know, you're really sweet for a serial killer.” I loved seeing their fierce protectiveness carry over into book 2, and seeing their styles blend together with their signature.
The main conflict centers around Aster’s imprisoned serial killer mother putting a hit on Serena (who was meant to be Aster’s victim, not his girlfriend). While the premise is solid, the execution felt chaotic. Too many plot twists, not enough depth. Some moments felt like filler twists to keep things interesting, but they didn’t land.
For example, and this one really killed me, there's a scene where a world-class sword-wielding serial killer with katana skills is taken down easily by Aster...who’s barely conscious, severely injured, hasn’t eaten or had water for days, and has zero sword experience. It was laughably unrealistic and just didn’t work. She also is the one who turned in his parents which was a very anticlimactic and empty confession IMO.
The sister subplot? Still pointless, in my opinion. Her role in this book was just to lurk around the edges, stalk Aster and Serena, and then vaguely help when needed. Her presence added nothing substantial, and I still hated her introduction.
Then we have the parade of other assassins who all supposedly elite killers who were surprisingly easy to eliminate. This is supposed to be a million-dollar hit job, with the best of the best coming for them. I expected more of a fight. Instead, it felt like things were being thrown at the wall to see what stuck. Even Serena's dads fiancé gets brought in out of jealously to kill her and admits to also killing her mother...which felt once again, anticlimactic and unnecessary. It was just another "twist" introduced for no reason.
By 75%, with the whipped cream scene I DNF’d. I just couldn’t push through any longer. This really just wasn't it for me and I genuinely tried. For weeks.
It’s not that the writing was bad or the author dropped the ball entirely — I think I just wasn’t in the right mood, and the story didn’t have any of the magic or pull that Blue Rose did for me. While I appreciate the ARC and the twisted creativity that went into this world, The Black Lotus ultimately fell flat, and I wish it was as interesting as book 1.
Omg I love this book finished out the duet and I am giving it a 4.25. I think what I enjoyed most about this book is that we all joke and even see the MIL from hell stories and this book is like what if the man you fell in love was a serial killer from a family of serial killers and this mother HATED you. It was just taking that scenario to the extreme and I just had a blast reading that. (I love horrible MIL stories) But I love that Aster kind of came off as a bit of a Mama's boy in the first one at least wanting to make her proud but the moment that he found out his mother had put out a bounty for his vixen he was like oh hell no this is my woman and not only am I standing with her against these other serial killers but I am also coming after you as well bc no one is taking my vixen from me. Again, tying it back to those horrible MIL stories and the mama's boys who don't stand up for their partners. So, I think anyone who has delt with a situation similar will love this story just for those vibes along with Aster building Serena a library with a secret kill room just for her because he wants to support not just her love of reading but her darker desires as well that are starting to emerge. We love a supportive king. I loved how Serena had evolved now that the truth had come out and how she just accepted that part of her and was going ahead full steam with no reservations. I just enjoyed how she would go off with no reservations and didn't have a breakdown or guilt trip after anytime she made a kill. It just wouldn't have fit her character, and it was just made for a more fun read. I also love how she was just as supportive as Aster as he was of her and that just made them a really cute but violent bloody couple that were ride or die.
Now this book is full of spicy (good spice bc these two couldn't keep their hands off one another), blood and creative kills so make sure you're okay with the triggers if you choose to read this book. It is a true duet with no cliff hangers or unresolved questions, but it does open the door for a spin off focusing on Aster's sister who we saw a lot of in this book who I also fell in love with, and I need her story ASAP. She was also really fun to read in this book and how she just there for serena when she needed her and how she just deep down wanted to get to know her big brother.
-----
This book is about Serena who with the help of Aster has realize the truth about herself and been reborn. Aster is literally the man of her dreams, and she is so in love with him. Everything would be perfect if it weren't for his mother who has never met Serena because she is locked up in prison but wants Serena dead. So much so she decided to put out a hit to fellow serial killers to take out Serena since she can't do it herself. But this woman has severally underestimated Serena and what she is capable of and is she wants a war well Serena will give her a war and with her son Aster at her side they will be unstoppable. Because coming after his vixen means she has signed her own death warranty and since she raised him to be the monster that he is, he has no problem putting her 6ft under after all he has already broken all his rules when it came to Serena so he will do whatever it takes to keep her alive and with him even if it means he has to make his mother one of his lambs.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
K. Cardella has once again delivered a breathtakingly addictive experience with The Black Lotus. While its predecessor, The Blue Rose, set a high bar, this sequel comes remarkably close to matching its magic. I admit I initially struggled to find my footing in the first 20%, but by the halfway point, I was completely swept away, unable to tear myself from the pages.
The central plot is a thrilling and dark ride, filled with wildly unpredictable twists that kept me guessing. The family drama involving Cynthia adds a delicious layer of tension, making the stakes feel incredibly high. The pacing felt clean and nonstop, making this a sequel that was nearly impossible to put down. As an e-arc reader, I'm compelled to include a note about trigger warnings, as the story contains themes of love, murder, and brutal torture that may not be for every reader. At the heart of the story are Aster and Serena, a couple who truly define the term "power couple." Their dynamic is fascinating to watch, especially the slow, deliberate shift as Aster trains Serena both physically and mentally. This evolution makes them feel like an unstoppable force. The heightened romance and intensity in this book only deepened my investment in their relationship. The world is also expanded by a host of new villains, like Cynthia's deadly assassins, who are a fantastic addition and ramp up the constant threat.
Favorite Quote: "The person I am now is the woman I can proudly look at in the mirror and say, ‘I love you’. It’s crazy to think I was once a scared, insecure girl, when I was always meant to be a strong, independent killer."
We also get more insight into Zephira, Aster's sister. She is a phenomenal character who brings a whole new energy to the series, and the second epilogue from her perspective has me desperately hoping for her own story next. The little details, like the "Chucky" drink at Sinister Beans, also added to the rich, immersive world K. Cardella has created.
Ultimately, The Black Lotus is a dark, twisty, and utterly captivating sequel that solidifies K. Cardella as an auto-buy author for me. I am consistently amazed by her ability to transport me into her world alongside the characters. Thank you, K. Cardella, for another literary obsession! This is a must-read for fans of dark romance featuring a serial killer couple, trauma bonding, and blood play.
OMG!!!K Cardella did it again in The Black Lotus. I am absolutely obsessed! I thought after reading The Blue Rose there would be nothing that would top that and was I wrong. I ate this up!! Aster and Serena are the definition of power couple. The couple that slays together stays together- literally for them!!!
I had the honor of reading this as an e-arc reader. In this book which is book 2 of this spicy dark romance series Serena has a hit out on her by no other than Aster’s mother. Talk about a welcome into the family! Will Serena survive Cynthia’s wrath? Find out by reading this epic story of love murder and brutality. Jk… No but there is love murder and brutal torture in it. So make sure and check your trigger warnings because your mental health matters.
Zephira is Aster’s sister and I am obsessed with her. She needs a book!! I wanted a book all about her and her life. She is a whole other vibe that I absolutely ate up every second of.
This book had me on the edge of my seat either sweating from the action or the spice because the spice was spicing!!!🥵🔥. I am obsessed with everything K. Cardella writes and she will always be an auto buy for me. I love how she transports me into the pages with the characters so I feel like I’m right there with them.
Thank you K. Cardella for another obsession of mine. This book was absolutely amazing and I can’t wait for the next one!!! Please do yourself a favor and go read these books, you will not be disappointed! PLEASE!!!
🔥Dark Romance 🔥Serial Unaliver Couple 🔥Trauma Bonding 🔥Spicy 🔥Blood Play
Book two in the Fatal Floral Killers series did not disappoint! Where The Blue Rose introduced us to Aster and Serena and set up their dark, twisty world, The Black Lotus let us see them fully bloom as this dangerously magnetic, power‑couple… even if they are serial killers.
I loved watching their dynamic evolve, especially with Aster training Serena both physically and mentally—it was such a deliberate, slow shift that made them feel unstoppable together. And the plot? Dark, thrilling, and batshit crazy in the best way. There were twists I absolutely did not see coming, and the family drama with Cynthia had me glued to the pages. The spice also got turned up in this book, which made their relationship even more intense to read.
I also really loved all the new villains that were introduced—Cynthia’s assassins were such a fun, deadly addition to the world and added even more tension to the story.
The pacing, the cleaner editing, and the non‑stop tension made this sequel so easy to fall into and nearly impossible to put down.
Also, I have to mention the little details that stick with you—like the Chucky drink at Sinister Beans. I’m genuinely curious to try it in real life!
And can we talk about Zephira? I loved her so much and that second epilogue from her POV has me hoping we get her story next. Salem’s Man Eater deserves the spotlight!
Overall, The Black Lotus was dark, twisty, spicy, and wildly entertaining!
Rounding out my 2025 year of reading, “The Black Lotus” completed my 65 books read and I’m so glad I chose this to be my last. I absolutely loved the first book “The Blue Rose”, learning about Aster and Serena. Learning that love comes in all different shades and that even a supposed heartless serial unaliver can have “feelings” and a heartbeat. I loved that this book picked up where the first left off at and the plot just kept getting thicker. Learning more about Aster’s past and his now “new-ish” sister Zephira was created so well but also so heartbreaking. You come to see why they are the “people” they are. Monsters aren’t born. They’re created. But not all monsters are evil. The chemistry between Aster and Serena is that of magic. Pure and unfiltered love. Powerful. Seeing both of their growth throughout, with each other and their extracurricular activities—was phenomenal. This story gave me all that I wanted in a book for serial unalivers. One’s you can root for in the end. There was violence, mystery, twists and turns, justice, revenge, and extra spicy love and emotions. The author did a fantastic job creating a story that was so unique and memorable that Aster and Serena (and even Zephira) will continue to live on rent free in my head. I do hope that we see them again in the future. Even if it’s a short little snippet. I’d love to see their life continue together and to see into Zephira’s life. Only time will tell. A perfect read to end the year.

Another phenomenal read by K. Cardella! I was highly obsessed with book one in this duet and didn’t think it could be topped but I was definitely proved wrong with The Black Lotus. I absolutely love the chemistry and love Aster and Serena share. The banter and spice is chefs kiss! It’s written beautifully. It definitely kept me hooked from the beginning. Never a dull moment with these morally black serial unalivers. They are definitely a perfect match. I love the character growth Serena had throughout this book. I love a spicy 🌶️ read and K. Cardella can definitely deliver on allllll the spice. It’ll leave you wanting to go outside for a smoke! 💨 🤭 ( and I don’t even smoke )🤣 K. Cardella is definitely a auto-buy author for me. If she writes it I’m definitely reading it! Highly recommend reading The Blue Rose and The Black Lotus! Perfect duet! Thank you for this ARC opportunity now I need to purchase my trophy!
I waited for this since I finished The Blue Rose and now that I have read it, it was totally worth the waiting.
Seeing Serena embracing her new self was everything I expected to be, and how cutely unhinged Aster and her turned out to be as a couple.
I liked the way every challenge was presented to them and their creative way to pass it through. How each were like a little piece of the big puzzle ready to be compleated when psycho mama showed up.
There were some parts that even as I knew they were f*cked up, made me laugh (sorry not sorry).
The only thing I can say I would've expected in the book, was to see a little more of The Fatal Floral Killers in action. You know, like, with Nate and Kelsey. But! I'm happy with what we got..
And Zephira! Smartass and sneaky Zephira. The way she pisses Aster everytime?? Brotherly love all the way!
Now, that epilogue ending only makes me question one thing? Would we see Zee's story in the future, K Cardella??
"When it comes to you, I lose all sense of rationality." -Aster 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
The black lotus is the final installment in the fatal florals duet. This book was insanely good, when there are multiple books in a series you always hope that the next is as good as the first and omg this book in my opinion was better. I loved seeing Serena turn into this stunning bad asf FMC. I had so many theories while reading at what the ending would be but honestly nobody could even freaking guess, The Black Lotus kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, I could not stop reading because I needed to know what was gonna happen next. Then of course when I was done I wish I hadn’t read it so fast because I missed them and wanted to reread it again right after. I was an ARC reader for the blue rose and then became a beta reader for The Black Lotus and yes I will be patiently while impatiently be waiting for any thing Kaitlyn has to write. She is definitely an automatic buy author for me now.
K. Cardella is such an amazing author and I loved The Blue Rose and just as expected I love The Black Lotus just as much. Book 2 was right after Book 1 so yes you do need to read that one first and we are captivated by Aster & Serena yet again. Serena character development is amazing and I enjoyed watching her grow and change. Aster is just as deadly as sexy as before but we get to know him more. The two of them together is phenomenal and the spice, boy is there lots of it. The tattoo scene is everything!!! So many characters were introduced and reintroduced and I loved that, made it refreshing and more mysterious. This book is NOT for the faint of heart as it does have mature themes and dark moments, so read trigger warnings. The duet is well written and you won’t regret getting into this universe.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better the lovely K Cardella said “Hold my pen”. There is nothing to say about this book other than it was pure DIABOLICAL PERFECTION!
This book had me from the very beginning and hasn’t let me go yet. It was so good to see Serena really come into her own but the star of the show for me was Aster. This man had me weak in the knees during The Blue Rose but stole my heart in this book. The dynamic between these two in this book was so hot and loved watching them rebrand themselves into a powerhouse couple.
This book surely had me on the edge of my seat, had me melting, and had my jaw on the floor with all the plot twist. This was such a good duet and I can’t wait to see what K Cardella comes up with next!
I didn’t think I could fall more in love with a serial killer butttt Aster 😮💨 my forever book boyfriend! 😉 Serena and Asters story is a unique one that’s for sure and just when you think they would get a happy ever after Asters deranged mother puts a hit out on Serena! 😱 But of course the fabulous Fatal Floral Duo is no match for any killer coming their way! Once one fails another appears and is brought to their demise! Family secrets are uncovered, hearts are shattered, love is twisted and the spicy… is spicing 😉🥵
K. Cardella’s writing paints pictures in your mind while reading! The attention to detail with each character and scene is remarkable!
I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC and I loved it! This is the sequel to The Blue Rose and did not disappoint. I loved the character development for Aster and Serena as their wild, dark and deadly story continued. I don’t want to say too much, but the stories behind other serial killers and how they connected with the main characters added depth to the plot and made me not want to put this down to see what happens (and who!) next! My only “complaint” is that I wanted more back story from each one. This is dark romance, so check your triggers! Thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this!
Where to start...this is the second book in the Fatal Florals duet and it was a fantastic conclusion to Sarena and Aster's story. It took a few chapters for me to really get into the book but once I did I didn't want to put it down. It has been a long time since a book was able to shock me and shocked I was. I throughly enjoyed the twists and turns in this story along with the character growth. I am looking forward to seeing what K. Cardella comes up with next and she will forever be an instant buy author for me.
"You are the one person who consumes me completely."
Okay, stop it Aster because you completely consume me!!!!!!
The black lotus is full of killings, 💀, spicy moments and just a whole bunch of Aster being a sex machine!
I loved all the twists and turns throughout the book and the moments that had me thinking No way!
I would love a back story on Cynthia who truly is a sociopath but let's be serious without her there would be no Aster and Zephira (i absolutely can't wait to demolish her story!!!)
I finished this book a few days ago and omg. First let me say I was counting days the till I could read this book since the first book was a cliffhanger....
This book did not disappoint in fact it exceeded my expectations. K. Cardella manages to seamlessly combine serial killer thriller with revenge plot and an amazing love story with this series. It has so many twists I definitely need to reread this a second time to see if I missed anything. Not only do you get more Serena and Aster but you get a bunch of new characters that give us Aster's backstory in ways you wouldn't expect.
Loved it as I fell in love with the first book. When I sign up for the 2nd book to ARC it one of the requirements was I had to read book one. I was like ok let me see if I have it already just because zon does this free ebooks, and omg my luck I had brought it when it was free so I read in almost in one day. I loved it. The romance, the chemistry between Selene and Aster through the roof. I love how they were both there for each other The good and bad. My first dark romance was maybe in 2021 I believe and for there I got addicted to that trope/genre.
These are just a few words that describe this amazing story. I absolutely loved the first book, and my expectations for this book were already set high. Well, my expectations were blown out of the water. Serena really grew as a character in this sequel. I was blown away by her growth and determined attitude. We find out more about Aster. I just loved it. The fantasy, the spicyness, and storyline were fantastic. This is absolutely a must read for any horror, spicy, and mystery readers. You will NOT be disappointed.
Aster and Serena have had my heart since The Blue Rose. Their twisted love story is a true crime lovers dreams. This book was full of twists and turns, full of wtf moments and I was here for every moment. Aster, Serena, and his sister teaming up to kill Cynthia was amazing, although parts of it had me wanting to loose my dinner it was truly amazing. K. Cardella is truly a brilliant author and I can’t wait to read more of her writing as she writes it. Aster and Serena will always be my favorite though.

Wow! What a wonderful ending to this duet! Even though I thought a few time we were not going to make it there! It was nice to learn more about Aster’s history. Serena’s was there as well but I feel as Aster pulled it all together! Cynthia is hopefully rotting where she belongs! Hoping Zephira gets her own story!
I absolutely loved this book. I loved the growth we saw in Selena and how see came into her own. Also I loved how it wasn't predictable, I would have never guessed the ending. I highly recommend reading it if you are a dark romance girly but go read The Blue Rose first.
Holy fucking hell!! I devoured this! You learn more about Aster, Serena, and Zephira. There were so many twists. My jaw dropped. I was not expecting some of the things that happened! The Spice so good! I cannot wait to read every book she writes!!!
I honestly am at a loss. I was so invested in book 1 that I had really high hopes for book 2 and K Cardella DID NOT disappoint. From the very beginning I was sucked into the Black Lotus world. The twist at the end tho 👌 chefs kiss... I do wish there would have been more killers theu had to face prior to the ending but thats just a personal preference
You have done it again!!! I love this book but I am sad to see it end(even tho Zephira could use her own book lol). The plot was great, and of course the spice was 🔥! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!!
