If you like Bernard Cornwell, Conn Iggulden, Simon Scarrow, David Gemmell and Giles Kristian, you will love this epic Viking adventure, packed with battles, treachery, blood and gore. Before the Viking Blood and Blade saga, there was Ragnar Lothbrok, Ivar the Boneless, and the warship Seaworm.

Einar is a Northman with a dream, a Viking bound by blood to a ship and a crew of battle hardened warriors, and oathsworn to Ivar the Boneless.

The sons of Ragnar fight a war of vengeance against King Orsten the Roarer, ruler of Sweden, a savage pagan and murderer of Eric and Agnar Ragnarsson. Einar and his crew face losing their precious warship Seaworm and become locked in a fight to keep their ship, survive a brutal war, and treachery from within the Viking army itself...

Einar must navigate the war, survive brutal attacks, and take command of his longship in this fast paced adventure prequel to Peter Gibbons' Viking Blood and Blade saga, with unforgettable characters and heart pumping battles.

The Warship Seaworm is easily one of my favourites in the whole Blood and Blade saga. What I really loved was the way Peter Gibbons developed Einar’s character and you can clearly see the foundations of the man he would grow into in the main series.

The relationship between Einar and Halvdan was also a real highlight. Exploring their bond here made Halvdan’s later betrayal and sacrifice in Blood and Blade feel so much more meaningful and emotional.

I also enjoyed the parallels between Einar and Hundr from the main series. Both are obsessed with building their reputations and living by drengskapr, and it really shows how central honour and respect are in this world.

Overall, this book added so much depth and context to the saga, and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next installment!

Brilliant introduction to The Viking Blood and Blade Saga

Einar the Brawler starts to find his way in this excellent prequel to a superb saga with raw force and energy. A twist at every stroke of the oars and a surge with every drop of the sails.

A Fantastic Read

This was a fantastic prequel to The Viking Blood and Blade saga and follows Einer the brawler and his early adventures with Iver the Boneless. This was a cracking tale and comes very highly recommended.

Another prequel with a young Einar Rastor as the main character. And with each story there has to be a villain or 2. These 2 in particular were very mean to Einar with their cruelty behavior.
