They have one chance at love in an unforgiving sea...

Azai is sailing home with a secret treaty to avoid a war when his ship is destroyed by the mer, a strange, intelligent race living beneath the waves. The diplomat awakens naked on the beach, abandoned on a tropical island far from the shipping lanes and any hope of rescue. He soon discovers the island is not deserted, and he is far from safe. A mysterious stranger shares the jungle with him. Knissic is powerful, intense, and able to communicate with the mer. On the night of the full moon, his inhuman blue eyes gleam when he claims Azai with one word: "Mine."

But Azai soon learns there are two sides to the enigmatic man. One is the dangerous, powerful, commanding side of Knissic when his half-blood rises during the full moon. The other is a kind and caring but lonely man who freely shares his food and shelter with Azai. Knissic has a deep connection to the mer, and the mer are far different than Azai ever imagined. Soon Azai is forced to question what he believes and what he feels—a mix of fear and friendship, duty and desire. But even as their relationship deepens, Azai knows he must return to his kingdom. A war looms on the horizon, and Azai might be the only man who can stop it. Only Knissic may not let him leave...

Also known as J.C. McGuire.

J.C Owens lives in small town, rural Alberta and is a self confessed writing-a-holic. In the absence of help for this affliction…

I do indeed love to write and have now completed thirty published stories, along with over twenty books sitting idle in my computer, waiting… I love the genre of male/male stories and conflict in what a person thinks they want, versus what they truly need to become themselves. I think any writing that shows the beauty of men loving men is worthwhile.

I love to hear from my readers and always appreciate suggestions and comments for future books. Sharing a love of reading and good, hot sensuality between men is always a cause for celebration!

While I enjoyed this book, it was definitely slow in spots. I think it suffered from being exclusively from Azai’s point of view. I would have loved to have Knissic’s perspective and have insight to his interactions with his fellow mers. So while enjoyable, I just wish it would have been a bit longer and more inclusive of Knissic’s point of view.

Rating = 3.5 Stars; Parts of it were really good, like the siblings and the evoking of emotions. I stayed really engaged. But once it was done, I realized the ending felt really rushed in multiple areas. For me, that kept it from being above average. I wanted to see what happened instead of being told for both the conflict and its resolution. This includes reactions and explanations etc....

This story has a strong HEA and a touching ending, even though it faded to black a little too quickly.

**************
Below are my explanations or thoughts on reviewing!
***************
1.Obviously no review can take into account all the various personal pet peeves of readers. But, I do try to take into account the common ones often bemoaned by other reviewers
2. If used in this review, the term Brain candy is not necessarily negative. It has its uses and at times it is my preference when I just want to pass some time; so it does not carry a negative connotation for me - unless I'm expecting the next great novel. (What falls under brain candy? The book is meant for pure entertainment to pass time. It may be formulaic, from an author published quickly like monthly, things escalate fast, and are often solved easily etc.. Publishing industries version of pop music. Beach type reads etc... ).
3. Blurb rating purpose:
Like many readers, I do not like to think I'm reading one kind of story; just to end up with another type. But...I also don't think a book should be docked stars for being as stated. If I don't like stories about "_________", and I choose to read one. I shouldn't give it 2 stars based JUST on my preferences. Unless... it wasn't clear in the blurb.
4. Other Factors that effect my perspective when reviewing:
Since 2009, I have exclusively read m/m. My 1st was in 2007. I am a Kindle diehard, and I never do audio for m/m. I read at least 100+ books a year - with an average length of 220± pages; but the total number of books is usually much higher. My Goodreads lifetime rating (at the start of 2020) was a 3.72 average for 1390 books. Which considering, you should be better at picking out books the more you read, I feel is a accurate average. I have over 700 reviews within the m/m genre here on Goodreads.

Wow. I finished this in a day but not because it was too short. Like most I have a lot of time on my hands and literally refused to put this book down. It is one the best merman stories I have read. And has a good ending. Loved it and would definitely recommend it.

Owens never disappoints! This was a good story of a half human/merman and the human that grows to love him. Loved the ending!

Started off slow but turned into a very enjoyable and interesting romance. Very different take on merfolk mythology. Love it!
