North Africa, November 1941. Days before the British launch Operation Crusader, Corporal Lynch and the other Commandos are given the task of accompanying a makeshift strike force of British tanks and armoured cars deep into the Libyan Desert.
Their mission: carry out a series of lightning-fast raids against Axis bases, creating a diversion to confuse the enemy commanders in the critical hours before the British Eighth Army pours over the border into Libya.
Meanwhile, Afrika Korps Captain Karl Steiner guides a squadron of German panzers into the deep desert in order to provide warning against any British advances. The two forces, German and British, are on a collision course than can only end in blood and flames, littering the desert sands with slaughtered men and shattered tanks.
Operation Dervish is the fourth in a series of military action - adventure novels written in the spirit of classic war movies and wartime adventure pulp fiction.
I enjoyed the story. Well written and a fun read. I liked the fact that the Germans were shown as soldiers fighting a war and not nasty, murdering Nazis.
A Very good book thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of re-enacting war conditions its as your there, all i can say keep your fingers on the keyboard and enlighten us with your visions and researching the stories your sharing with us all.
This book is a fantastic follow-up to Operation Cannibal (COMMANDO Book 3). The action in Commando: Operation Dervish stays in North Africa and with the Long Range Desert Group. The novel benefits from this continuation as it gives the opportunity for both the return of a villain from a previous volume and for some of the other 3 Commando lads besides main character Thomas Lynch to get some of the spotlight. Simply put, C:OD is the same fun read as the rest of the Commando series.
Here's hoping Badelaire will keep writing until the series sees Commando: Operation Zenith completed!
This book, the 4th instalment in the Commando series, is a pretty exciting read and should satisfy most readers of military pulp fiction. It is set in the Libyan desert during WW2 and features our heroes alongside the LRDG and a tank squadron fighting against an old foe.
