A really heart wrench story about the author's family, neighbours, and ancestors; giving a small insight into the lives and suffering of Ukrainians for the last century and before.

"We, Ukrainians of many ethnicities, cultures and histories, are united. We are scrambling to piece the mosaics of our personal and common history together, to add our family stitches to Ukraine's embroidery, comparing notes and becoming stronger."

Olia has shared a beautiful story. Her love for her country shines through in the description of the food, the landscapes and the people. I learnt so much during reading it that I didn't know about Ukraine's history. Olia generously shares her family's story alongside the events that have happened in Ukraine for over 100 years.

I would recommend anyone read the book. It's beautifully written and reflective but remains accessible and readable.

I cannot recommend Olia’s brilliant book strongly enough. It is beautifully written and I have learned so much about Ukraine’s history; its people, culture, art, and of course, cooking. The story of the persecution of this beautiful country and its people is not a happy one, but despite this, Olia gives us hope that Ukraine will ride the storm, as the sheer strength and resilience of the people throughout the years shines through. It made me even more determined to support Ukraine in whatever ways I’m able to.
A wonderful book, and one to cherish and keep.

A very good read. Olia talks through the history of her family over generations looking at the Russification and brutality of Ukraine in the past and in this current war. She discusses the current situation and the resilience and patriotism of her fellow Ukrainians.
