Picked this up from The Works. When I read the reviews for this story, they were mixed which did make me unsure on the idea of this book.
However, this book was very good. The story was different, interesting and captivating. It follows different themes such as femininity, mental health, suicide, drugs.
It explores a lot of conversations. It had quite a few twists and turns. It wasn’t “jaw dropping” however the story was interesting.
The characters also had a lot of depth, we got to know them in detail which I always enjoy.
I haven’t read anything by this author before but was intrigued by the cover. I found it quite difficult to engage with any of the characters which made the book a bit of a slow read. The build up was long and then in the last few chapters the whole story was done and dusted. I felt the ending was a bit rushed and was quite obvious…. And I am not usually one to pick up on the clues! It was a readable story but definitely not a gasp out loud ending or a thriller.
I didn’t find the storyline to be gripping and felt there was too much focus on the content of the Dr’s memoir which didn’t add anything to the story. Very underwhelming and definitely not a ‘gasp out loud twist’ in my opinion.
Although I got to the end of this book I’m still trying to decide whether I found it a thrilling read or not. I was intrigued by Eva’s story and ultimately finding out the truth about what happened to her is what kept me turning the page. I didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable, possibly one of the reasons I’m struggling to decide if I actually liked this book. The story has great premise, but I felt like the ending was rushed and didn’t particularly tie the story up well.
