See also 椎名 軽穂 Karuho Shiina was born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan. Though Kimi ni Todoke is only her second series following many one-shot stories, it has already racked up accolades from various "Best Manga of the Year" lists. Winner of the 2008 Kodansha Manga Award for the shojo category, Kimi ni Todoke also placed fifth in the first-ever Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) contest in 2008.
Poor Sa-chan or whatever her name was. She is such a naive, crying girl. I have instantly disliked her when she introduced herself: "I am happy, although I don't have a boyfriend". Grrrr, this is the kind of thought that makes girls look so simple/pathetic.
I don't rate this manga lower only because of the art. Of course it is similar to KNT (it is the same mangaka). Too bad the story is far from being good as KNT was. I shouldn't compare but it is inevitable. KNT is one of my favorite manga, and the story in this one is very lame.
Feb 2020 I'm in the mood for contemporary story after fantasy novels that I reread for three consecutive days. An emotional one that will make me weep and forget real life like drown in the fiction world, and as I scrolled through my manga app, I saw this one, one of my fave shoujo manga that left me with puffy eyes the first time I read it. I read it 8 years ago, so I didn't remember the plot clearly anymore, just the heroine was pining for the guy for entire series (6 volumes), and now rereading it, I cried a river again, and I even started crying from first few pages, because the pining is sooo heartbreaking to watch... 😭😭😭 However 8 years really can change person so much, I mean, in the past when I read it I struggled to understand why some characters did some things, why were they like that, especially Yuki and Akemi, but now, after went through some hellish tests in life, I can understand and appreciate and sympathize with the characters even more, this is one of the reasons why I always reread some books every few years. In the past I didn't like Akemi and had this love-hate feelings toward Yuki, but now I don't at all, I understand where he's coming from, and I didn't blame Akemi nor Yuki's actions. My fave characters are Sachi and Yuuhei, both are strong, not weak at all. Some people think she's weak, and pathetic because she was pining so hard over someone like that, but is that really wrong? Want to be loved and happy, to fell in love so deep, to embrace the pain, to not running away from her own feelings, to stand up without support, personally I think it's admirable. Anyway, it's the kind of manga that either people love or hate it, I think. Maybe people think the author overdramatized it, but I don't think so, people like Yuki, Sachi, Akemi, Yuuhei, and Akahoshi are exist in real life. Now, I'm going to treat my puffy eyes, it's painful after crying nonstop for hours, I even had mild migraine, smh. Next book is definitely happy and heartwarming story. 😂
I felt that the female mc was pretty naive. The male mc was really cunning. He proposed to his girlfriend and when she rejected him he changed his feelings to our female mc. She should have ended up with the second male lead. He was much much better
I finished al 3 vol and it changed my life prespective.
This girl is so dumb. Basically, she has her first crush and is willing to do anything to be with him, as a friend but hopefully otherwise. Literally her first crush and she goes crazy. The guy is hardly a peach either - he both tells her not to bother but also encourages her. They should not end up together, unless they're waiting in the same therapist's office.
If I am to say one nice thing, the artist does a good job in making the main girl look different and less cute than the others, rather than some manga which claim the main character is less cute but draw her just as cutely as the rest. That was refreshing.
Do not recommend. It's not offensively awful, but I wanted to shake both the leads and give that dumb girl some self respect.
I really enjoyed Kimi ni Todoke so I was excited to read the mangaka's earlier series, Crazy for You, but it was a total letdown. The male lead is completely unlikeable, the romance between him and the main character is devoid of chemistry, and the main character comes across is pathetic because of her obsession with him. I was actively rooting against them as a couple. The only bright spot was the other male lead. That character as well as the artwork, which is beautiful, is the only reason I didn't rate this series one star.
I loved Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 1, however, this (thankfully much shorter) series by the same mangaka was not my cup of tea - while Kimi ni Todoke depicted a healthy relationship, this did not. I also found Sa-chan frustrating, centering all her efforts into pursuing someone who repeatedly rejected her.
The art is ehhh and the story is interesting but I’m not liking Sachi very much. She’s sweet and funny but she would jump off a bridge if Yuki told her to… Yuki is not even that great. And he knows it. The end of this volume had a little twist and it’s definitely going to get more interesting after this…
(Ohhh and it was nice to see Eiji from Kimi Ni todoke Soulmate in this! This is where his character comes from! The mangaka connected her series in a fun way)
While reading the sequel to Kimi ni Todoke, I discovered that the male lead is in this series and, as a result, that it’s by the same author. I have to say I’m rereading it just because they’re mentioning characters and I don’t remember anything… I only remembered that I didn’t like it, and I have to say that my memory was spot on lol
Tiba-tiba ingin membaca komik seperti masa-masa SD SMP dulu.
Sachi is an optimistic 17-year-old girl who goes to an all girl's high school. She's cute, where else her best friend Akemi (whom she got to know in high school) is a cool beauty who already had boyfriends before, whereas Sachi simply thinks it's time to have a boyfriend now - things that are fun would be twice as fun with a boyfriend ^^.
Her best friend manages to arrange for Sachi to go to a mixer/gokuon to meet single boys who are also looking for a girlfriend - or just a good time. She tells her that a boy called Yuhei will look out for her. And so he does - Sachi even tries to flirt with him - but then he tells her that he does because he's Akemi's boyfriend (from the all boy's high school which is where the boys of the gokuon come from).
Akemi is so eager to fall that she's very relieved/slightly upset that she "almost fell in love with" him. And when she turns around with every emotion visible on her face (as it always is), there's this smiling, rather short boy, whose first words to her are "You're so cute".
Yup. That was it. Yukihiro Miyamoto, the guy who said that, is charming, a good friend of Yuhei's and friendly.
He's also a light-hearted and skilful player who doesn't care much whether the girls get hurt when they take him to seriously.
Sachi is full of fervour, even running to a medium in the street to have her love fortune told: which is miserable (and if you read the whole series, fairly accurate). Some of the boy's school guys are passing in the street and interestingly enough, although other boys from the gokuon are there, everyone ignores Sachi's hopes being crushed (you can really see all her emotions in her face) - except Yuki.
That's because Yuki is also genuinely kind, when he bothers to be. He just doesn't care for every person, even as he suavely doesn't let acquaintances see that. Sachi takes his empathy as love, though - even though Akemi's first reaction to the name of her new love was utterly and decisively negative.
All of this is because there's a whole log of background between the main characters in this manga, only Sachi is new to the eventual grouping and knows nothing of all this.
Yuki realizes this and actually tells her to her face that she's the one girl he doesn't want to disappoint, he wants her optimism to be strength for himself, actually. But every honest word out of his mouth - still keeping lots of truths hidden though - makes Sachi fall more deeply in love with him.
Akahoshi, another friend of Yuki's who usually hangs out with him, tries to point her towards Yuki's fault, basically out of pity. But he, who sees himself as an average kind guy and Yuki as a player, does NOT realise when Sachi hurts herself in her summer sandals, looking for them - Yuki does.
Truthfully - if you don't like Sachi and Yuki, you will not like this series. It's obvious that Shiina over-dramatizes and angsts in comparison with Kimi Ni Todoke - but in some ways KnT is more idealised. The sordid parts of this story, the fact that the hero never totally fits in his role - that's actually more realistic. As is the fact that not everyone wins out at the end. Things get broken that can't be repaired.
This volume is the set-up for all of that. Sachi in her earnest pursuit manages to shake a lot of Yuki's buried feelings lose, especially on his birthday, but she is not the target of his affections and that already starts the prophesied heartbreak - after getting a fever and being nursed by Sachi, who can't let go even though she's been rebuffed, he gets a visit of all his friends - and also of Akemi and the truth comes out, basically breaking two people's hearts and discomfiting the one bystander, Akayoshi.

A lovely short series from my most favorite shoujo manga ever - Karuno Shiina (also the author of Kimi Ni Todoke in case you don't know). This manga was drawn before Kimi Ni Todoke so the art wasn't as good and neither the storyline but it still has all traits of Karuno Shiina: soft, sophisticated, emotional, youthful and true.
It's hard to find such decent shoujo manga these days when most shoujos only focus on silly clinché dramatic storyline and fanservice but no real emotion and character development.
When it comes to shoujo mangas, I'm extremely picky because I need true emotion and honest characters and only a few can have that. And "Crazy for you" definitely have them all, that's why it goes straight to my short list of favorite shoujo mangas.
This manga started bad.A girl meeting a weird guy in a Goukoun(if i write it right)anyway, she wanted to be friends cause he wouldn't like her nor deceive her either like the other girls he dated. But then something happens with his ex and she get's torn apart.Tries to get over him but she fails. It's a nice story and it shows us the importance of "love",friendship and being strong on your own.But i don't call what she(Sa-chan) and he(Yuki-chan) have love. She is too obsessed and turns everyone's world around(on defence of the character is not only her fault). She is weak and that's what i don't like about this manga that's why i gave it 2 stars. But i love Karuho's art and she gave her everything in Kimi Ni Todoke to show us what she can do!
Since I don't care for Shiina's other English-released series (Kimi ni Todoke), I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. The heroine can't be brought down, the hero isn't as cold as he thinks (more voluntarily trapped by his past), and the twist at the end foretells the sort of angsty-good series shoujo romance is known for, without the creepy elements...at least so far. With only six volumes, I'm ready for the long(ish) haul and hoping for a physical release at some future date.
I thought the ending could have been better. I kind of don't like Yuki. I don't like what happened to Akahoshi either. I thought Sachi was kind of a good heroine though.
