The fact that Sachi jumped in between Yuki and Youhei and got hit is the starting point of the second volume - the hit being caused by feverish Yuki kissing his old girlfriend Akemi and asking her to come back to him, even though he knows she never trusted him.

Yuki may be a player, but even he feels guilty about Sachi getting hit, because she has shown that his happiness is the most important thing to her in their relationship, even if he can't reciprocate her love.

Akahoshi carries the unconscious Sachi home (yes, as I said, this series is quite a bit more angsty and melodramatic than KnT ^^).

The next day Yuhei abjectly apologises, but Sachi is quite aware that it was her fault for getting in between the boys - she's not stupid, just naive and optimistic.

She tries to talk to Akemi, who refuses to tell her truth, so this drives a wedge into their friendship. Then she has to hear from Akahoshi that Yuki was in school and didn't try to meet her that day. He's also avoiding Yuhei, naturally.

When Yuki and Sachi meet after school, he finally tells her the story of his love for Akemi (which started in middle school) that went wrong because he treated all the girls nicely and insecure Akemi couldn't handle that (^^ who can, at that age). Actually at that gokuon he had known she was a friend of Akemi's and started flirting with her to get back at Akemi.

But Yuki has some decency left and Sachi's full-hearted emotions made him decide to not want to use her for revenge. Her honesty makes him be honest, too.

The amazing part is that because Yuki also honestly thought she was cute, Akemi is thankful for being called that by a popular boy like Yuki and tells him so (actually I can totally relate to that - if hasn't happened before hearing this for the first time has a real impact on a girl), no matter how difficult her situation may now be. She repeats her confession and decides that she wants more than friendship, so therefore she can't be his disinterested friend any longer.

Akahoshi appears from the shrubbery, it seems (I did say this was melodrama) and declares his interest in Sachi, now that Yuki has clearly and honestly rebuffed her love and has lost her "friend" status.

Sachi tries to make things clear with Akemi and decides to go after Yuki purposefully (with all the knowledge she now has). Yuki does not discourage her completely (something has to be mysterious and it usually is the hero, if it isn't the heroine).

Youhei and Akemi try to find where they stand with each other now, after all Akemi wasn't fighting off Yuki's kiss in the last volume.

The big moment at the boy's school cultural festival, has Akemi and Yuki, Akahoshi and Sachi realising the fact that "men and women can't be just friends, when they meet there is always a different motive behind that" (something I don't subscribe to, because I have seen friendships that work across gender lines without sexual interest, but I do admit I haven't seen many!).

Sachi clearly tells Akahoshi she loves Yuki and doesn't want a kiss from him (actually, it's manhandling - melodrama here we come). Akemi confesses to Yuki she's always thinking of him, but she would still be totally insecure if they got back together again. Meanwhile Sachi wishes that everyone could be happy.

Akemi gives Yuki an ultimatum. If she gets back together with her, he'll lose Youhei's friendship and Sachi and any other girls, because he can only focus on her, otherwise she can't handle it: He meets Sachi to tell her this, and also to tell her that he loves her, too - just not as much as he loves Akemi. So she should give up, because he will now only belong to Akemi, so he's sorry.

Sachi is devastated - but not so much from finding out that Akemi remains Yuki's choice: he apologises for loving her, Sachi, too. She finds that hardest to hear, because she is so glad (not happy) that he loves her at all (I can't say that I find that totally unrealistic, because when I was a teenager that is what I sometimes thought would suffice, too).

Being Sachi she tries to deal, reconfirm her frienship with Akemi and even becomes a sympathetic ear for Youhei, who is taking the separation from Akemi really hard (in many ways, he's a male version of Sachi, just more clueless). Sachi is really growing up and defining for herself what she wants in a relationship and in a frienship, and in many ways her approval and love is what the other main characters revolve around. Her esteem is sometimes what they measure themselves against.

At the end of this volume Akemi and Sachi are totally hones to each other regarding their feelings and find somewhat of an even footing in their friendship again, while Akahoshi has turned into a Sachi-cheering or Sachi-balancing team.

What I appreciate most about this book is the fact that heroine Sa-chan encourages everyone to actually talk to each other. She knows life won't always go the way she wants it to and that she might not get what or who she wants, but she's still committed to making things as good as they can be. That's a nice change in shoujo manga.
