Thank goodness he writes fiction--if his story were true, Americans would be seig-heiling our fuhrer today. Do yourself a favor and read this book now."--Shane Gericke, bestselling author of Torn Apart""House of Apache Fires" is crisp, throbs with suspense, and a "don't miss it", decidedly real joy-ride for any reader." - Earl Merkel, author of the Beck Casey espionage thriller series and the Faulk Carpenter suspense-mystery series.
A very enjoyable read, that combined fiction with real events. it covered a lot of geography, Arizona,Washington DC Germany, Italy and others, The characters were will defined and it was well written.
I received this book as a first read. I have to admit, I didn't have high hopes for this since I didn't like the cover - Don't judge a book by its cover. The writing was phenomenal. The writing was descriptive yet crisp. The story is very past paced and instantly sucks you in. The book is part mystery and part action filled war story. The characters are well developed. The pacing and story style instantly bring to mind Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton, and Kurt Vonnegut. I feel like I might have gotten more out of the story if I had any knowledge of guns or weaponry but didn't feel like I missed out on anything. Fans of military fiction will enjoy this book.
Continuous action. Great characters with enough differences to make them all interesting. Just enough true history to make one say, "Hmm, I wonder. . ."
I rated this book 3 stars only because I really appreciated, and applaud this local author, for writing a book that involved our local Sedona history. I actually read it as part of a "community read" at our library. It included some "real" people" , like Helen and Jack Frye( the president of TWA) who did live in Sedona, Harry Truman, and Howard Hughes. House of Apache Fires is a real house, still in existence in Red Rock State Park, and many places in the story, such as Flagstaff and their steam tunnels, the Lowell Observatory, and the Navajo Ordnance Depot are real places. However, despite an unusual, interesting plot, this story was probably the most unbelieveable and unrealistic book I've ever read!!! It went from one disaster to another, danger around every corner, normal everyday people becoming super heroes, shootouts and blood galore....all the while these characters treated the situations they were in very casually, even taking time to joke about things!!! The "edge of your seat" moments actually started to become funny because they were SO unbelieveable and occurred almost every other page😄. I met this author and he seems to be a nice guy with knowledge of local history, but he's definitely not an author you can take seriously.
I you like a good, well researched WW II page-turner in the vein of Kenny Follett's best, you need to read this book.
It takes place in Sedona and Flagstaff, AZ (and a few other places like Warm Spring GA and a few locations in WWII Germany, with Hitler's Eagle Nest one of them). It was one of the high rated "local" reads here in Sedona since the book covers all the Red Rock locations from a unique perspective. In Flagstaff, the "steam tunnels" mentioned in the book started a local historical search of the area.
It is fast paced, has 3D bad-guys (and good guys), and intriguing plot and an ending research note that you should not miss.
If you've ever visited Sedona and wanted a taste of the 40's era of the town, this is also a book for you.
The most exciting book that I have read in a long time
This is one of the best written books that I have read. The author covers some very interesting subjects within his story. I have often felt that there was more to Pearl Harbor than was released by the government. It is only mentioned in passing in this story, but I felt it was important. As I said in the title this is a very exciting book.
I meant to give it a rating of 3 but my thumb slipped . I feel there was no need to toss a German word into a sentence. The last third of the story was better than the first two thirds.
Well written. An exciting adventure but totally implausible
The characters real and fictitious behave realistically given the circumstance but the.underlying premise is sheer fantasy. If you like revised history you will love this.
This is the second book by Morgan Jameson that I have read and I really enjoyed it. Great characters and a story that makes you not want to put it down. I look forward to reading more of his books.
A promising first novel with a couple truly surprising twists (and I'm not easily surprised). Some readers may skip over some of the technical details, but I appreciated the depth of the author's research and his knowledge of military technology. The writer is from the Sedona area that serves as the book's setting, and his descriptions capture the region wonderfully.
Bought eBook on Kindle. Hard to stop reading , thrilling page turner. I have lived in Sedona Az for 26 years so I was familiar with many of the locals in the story. I loved the aerial battle through the Sedona rock formations.
I was drawn to this book because of the setting being Sedona during WWII. That part was good and it is a fast pace book. However it is heavy on guns and war, not my favorite subjects. It reminded me of those action serials at the Saturday afternoon movies during the 50's.
