An unspoken love. A broken wedding. And a marriage that was never supposed to happen.
When Anika Kapoor is left at the altar, her world crashes in one humiliating moment. But before the whispers begin, a voice from her past cuts through the chaos.
“I’ll marry her.”
Aarav Malhotra was her best friend once—the boy who made her laugh, who sat quietly beside her during her darkest nights. The boy she secretly loved but never dared to confess it to.
Now he’s her husband. And he’s no longer that boy.
This man is colder. Sharper. Guarded.
Aarav didn’t plan to marry her out of love. He did it for reasons even he doesn’t fully understand—maybe guilt, maybe anger, or maybe the feelings he’s buried for over a decade.
She doesn’t know why he came back. He doesn’t know why he cares so much. But maybe… they were never meant to end. They just never got the chance to begin.
This book Childhood friends to lovers Contract marriage Forced proximity Protective MMC
Protect My Heart is the second installment in the Woven Heart Series by S.C. Jain. It follows Anika Kapoor, who is left at the altar, only to be unexpectedly rescued by Aarav Malhotra - her childhood best friend turned emotionally distant billionaire. What begins as a contract marriage quickly evolves into a complex emotional journey filled with buried feelings, unresolved pain, and the possibility of love. Set against the backdrop of Indian culture and modern romance tropes, the story explores themes of healing, vulnerability, and second chances.
I was drawn into this book from the very first chapter. The emotional tension between Anika and Aarav is palpable, and the author does a wonderful job of portraying the nuances of a relationship built on history, heartbreak, and hope. The second chance and forced proximity tropes are handled with warmth and depth, making the characters feel real and relatable. I especially appreciated how Anika’s strength and grace were highlighted throughout the story - she’s a protagonist you genuinely root for.
What stood out to me was how their bond evolves. Anika’s vulnerability is met with Aarav’s quiet protectiveness, and their moments together - whether tender, tense, or teasing - are filled with unspoken history. The slow unraveling of their feelings, especially in the context of a contract marriage, adds a delicious tension to the narrative. You can feel the push and pull between them, and it’s this emotional friction that makes their romance so engaging. And Rudraksh stepping up during their happy second wedding for you-know-what was so heartwarming.
That said, the underlying suspense track felt a little underdeveloped. While the emotional core of the story was strong, the subplot involving the acid attack could have been explored with greater depth. It’s a sensitive and serious issue, and I felt that Anika’s coping mechanisms - both psychological and social - deserved more attention. A deeper portrayal of her trauma, recovery journey, and how she rebuilt her confidence could have added powerful layers to her character and made the narrative even more impactful. I also felt the pacing could have been tighter in the middle chapters, where the emotional back-and-forth occasionally felt repetitive.
Overall, Protect My Heart is a deeply emotional romance that blends heartfelt storytelling with strong character chemistry. If you enjoy love stories that explore vulnerability, healing, and second chances - with a touch of drama and cultural richness - this book is absolutely worth your time.
💭 He called her Miss Toofan… and I cried my heart out.
✨ Protect My Heart – S. C. Jain ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
So I read Protect My Heart by S. C. Jain—the second book of the Woven Heart series. Last time I read the first book Heal My Heart and wanted Rudraaksh, my all-time favourite fictional man… but now Aarav Malhotra, his brother (who was just a supporting character before) had a quiet love story that changed everything for me. 🖤
Honestly, this book made me look at people differently. Unpopular opinion: “The most charming outgoing ones have a quiet monologue of soft love.” Like Aarav… God, that’s infuriating and beautiful.
And the best part? His best friend, lover, wife—Anika Kapoor 💫. A sassy, ambitious girl who forgets to take care of herself. I connected with her so much.
Their relationship went from friends ➝ enemies ➝ misunderstood lovers ➝ husband & wife ➝ divorce ➝ remarriage. It forced them to face everything they had lost for 12 years due to misunderstanding. And the way they divorced and then re-married just to make things right… God, that’s charming.
My favorite dialogue? Aarav teasing Anika as “Miss Toofan” 🌪️—the cutest, most unique nickname ever.
I cried harder reading this book—the way they loved each other so quietly. Anu through her paintings & letters, and Aaru by admiring her and making her smile. It made me believe that true love of a man means he remembers every single moment. 🥺❤️
So girls… be women. Don’t be satisfied with the bare minimum—or even just princess treatment—because if a man truly loves you, he’ll prove it without even trying. ✨
The childhood friends then kinda enemies getting married ,contract marriage to lovers all my favourite tropes in one book🤌🏻🤌🏻.
Anika was left in altar by a guy whom Aarav was looking for because that guy leaked some of his business details, well he ran away leaving our fmc behind. That was the first time they saw each other after 12 years,After Anika shifted from her house when they were kids. She promised him ,she will reach out but she did not but according to her she wrote letters but he never replied, now because of this misunderstanding they hate each other but do they.
Anika agreed to stay married to him for 6 months, but can they stay away from each other.Even after avoiding each for some days they always seem to seek each other.I loved all those cute banters they had.
My fav scenes were ,When he bought kinder joy for her saying you used to like it for the fact he remembered that, such little things are so pure and also the scene where she had her periods,he called her and she got pissed and ended the call ,well just how fast he figured out she got her periods, because she always acted that way only on her periods since they were kids.I mean sir the bar you set ,oh god and also he bought all the snacks for her immediately canceled all the meetings & met her entering through pipe, well they were not supposed to meet for some reasons, did that stop him no .Thats the most simplest yet so considerate thing a man could a woman could ever ask for.
But there was some things I wanted to know the acid attack thing it just did not came up anywhere.
Ahhh !!!! God this book was just 😍😍😍😍. First of all I loved loved loved how the characters from the first book were introduced and I literally fell in love with them all over again😭🫶🏻. It was such a different feeling to read about Aarav in this book we get know more about him on a personal level which tbh was the most beautiful thing about this book!! When I read the first book I was thinking about Aarav’s story and I loved reading about him !!! I sometimes still think about the yellow rose he gave Shivani 😭😭 and loved how dramatic he was !!!! And what can we say about Anika. I feel like she completes Aarav in the best way possible. Not only her even Aarav completes Anika in every way possible and that I think is what love is 😭🫶🏻
My favourite quote (touched my heart for some reason) : “It’s okay, Anu. Whatever it is, whoever it is—I’ll find out. And when I do, I swear, I’ll put an end to it. Because no one gets to hurt you. Not while I’m here. Not ever.”
Story: 5/5 (the ending was 😭😍🫶🏻)
Characters: 5/5 (would recommend reading the first book because you are going to fall in love them more in the second one)
It was fast paced and trust me I couldn’t put it down !!!! And the letters 😭 I don’t want to spoil anything else just trust me pick this book up. I was getting emotional and was giggling at their banter. It truly was beautiful 😍
A easy 5/5 read for me. I love love love S.C.Jain’s work 🥹🫶🏻
This book took me right back into the world I didn’t realize I’d missed so much. Protect My Heart isn’t just a romance it’s a continuation of healing, love, and everything that made Heal My Heart so special, only deeper and more emotionally charged.
Aarav and Anika’s story had me hooked from the start. Both are broken in ways that quietly mirror each other his guilt and her grief, his fear of attachment and her need for stability. Watching them slowly break down their walls and let each other in felt raw and genuine. It’s not all dramatic confessions; it’s the small, careful moments that make you ache in the best way.
What I really love about S. C. Jain’s writing is how she makes emotional pain feel understood. She doesn’t romanticize trauma, she writes healing like it’s messy, complicated, and worth every bit of effort. Aarav’s protectiveness and Anika’s gentle strength balance each other perfectly, and the found family moments? Still pure comfort.
And of course, the little cameos from the Heal My Heart universe made me grin like an idiot. 🥺 It felt like coming home.
If you loved slow-burn romances with real emotional depth, this one will absolutely tug at your heart. It’s about finding peace after chaos, love after loss, and realizing that sometimes protecting your heart doesn’t mean hiding it, but it means letting the right person hold it carefully. ❤️🩹
Slightly better than previous one but only slightly because in this one the FMC is not given every possible trauma available to humankind. overall the story was meh!
The acid attack incident was written so carelessly. No efforts were put into it. The author is probably from India and there are many cases of acid attack on women by their exes or someone obsessed with them. Those attacks are very severe and serious. They literally destroy the victim’s life. But the author just added the attack for the flair of it. Like to gain sympathy or something like making us readers think omg poor girl went through so much bla bla … like how did he even pour it on her in a way that only a spot on her leg was affected or a small part of her hand … make that make sense…. and then fine semantics but then the after process of it ??? Biggest fucking joke. It’s mentioned in one chapter and then bam FMC is fine and it’s not mentioned for the rest of the book. Like if I was a victim, I would not heal so fast from such thing physically or emotionally, no matter how severe or non severe the situation was.
Do better research next time… And please get better editors
Aarav and Anika have known each other since they were kids, loved each other in ways they never said out loud, and then spent twelve years apart with nothing but unanswered questions between them. Now they’re married, but it feels like they’re standing on opposite sides of a battlefield. Aarav Malhotra has my whole heart. Yeah, he puts on this tough, almost cold act in front of Anika, but the things he does for her when she’s not looking? The quiet, unseen ways he loves her? That’s what completely destroyed me. All those little and big things — the kind she may never even know about — make him such a sweetheart. He’s so different from the man we met in the first book, but the way he’s obsessed with her now? I am absolutely not okay. And Anika… she’s pure sunshine wrapped in strength. The way she loves, the way she took care of her mother, the way she still holds her ground even when her heart’s been through hell — she’s just the kind of woman you can’t help but root for. Then there are the letters.. They’re the most beautiful, heartbreaking part of this book. I felt all their emotions in those.
i love love this book so much, not a single dull moment. it perfectly nailed the best friend's to strangers to lovers trope with the perfect angst, push and pull between them. the characters are so raw, imperfect but beautiful. aarav omg i love this guy sm. he is so kind, thoughtful and patient. i love his grumpy as well as cheeky side sm. and anika? her sassy remarks. she is way too good. but there's also so much hurt in them, so many responsibilities. there's both beauty and pain in childhood love and they did the great jib at showcasing the emotions, the restraint and also marriage of convenience acted as cherry on top in the angst. the balcony sneaks, rain dance, those little moments everything was so well balanced. i loved how the humour was well blended here, never letting me cry for long. tge yearning was top tier here. i love just everything about this book, also their family moments. they deserve all the love. i loved how suspense was also added in here. it just made it more perfect.
SC Jain is becoming one of those authors for me whose books I’ll pick without a second thought. Mannn I loved Aarav… and his letter (I wish I had an Aarav… ughhh these delulu dreams of mine).
And Anika… her sass… uff… someone give me a fan. Her love for her mother is beautiful; and on top of everything, What took my heart was how much Aarav LOVED her. After the misunderstanding cleared, the way he disregarded his own pain and blamed himself for not reaching out first… who does that? And he saved himself for her, even without knowing if she’d ever come back… again, who does that?
Anika, I agree with you… he is a total broody guy who turns rom-com only for his girl… or should I say his wife. And yes, this book has A LOT of “my wife” moments. Also, he’s scared of her 😁
I loved it. If you love contract marriage, childhood lovers, second chance romance, strong and sassy FMCs (who paints), broody CEOs turning romantic for their girl (and bringing pav bhaji and Kinder Joy for her while she’s on her periods), this one is for you. As it was for us 😭❤️
This book was such a cute read, like I have been waiting to know about aarav's story and after reading it I literally loved them🥹🩷. They connection between Anika and Aarav is just pure and wholesome ❤️🩹. The angst 🤌, and that damn 'what letters?' Broke me (literally cried in my class while reading). The suspense part was also good, that I legit has to use my brain like where did it came from.
Overall it was a good read with drama (but I love a good drama🤭)
It’s a beautiful beautiful story than shows true friendship can happen just in a split of a second and promises are kept for lifetime ❤️🧿 I’m so glad I got to read such a masterpiece 💕
When you find your love and best friend in one person, and losing one means losing both? That’s what they are both feeling towards each other. And it shows.
The characters were shown raw — imperfect, but beautiful. The portrayal of emotions? Raw. Unfiltered. Unapologetic. Human.
It perfectly nailed the bestfriends to strangers to enemies vibes. Even the slightest touch, even just a glance — it literally turned me to ashes. My heart was aching, it was beating so fast. The book had so much angst and intensity that I completely fell in love.
Aarav. Oh my god — that guy. He is the star of it. I’m not gonna lie, I love him. That cheeky bastard — he has everything I want in a man. I want my guy to be humorous, to joke with me, to banter, to go on little streams of chaos... and he had everything. He was just so good.
And Anika — oh my god. That girl. Her sassy remarks?? She should honestly give us a 101 Sarcasm Masterclass. She was too good. Their banter, their playful arguments — everything was amazing.
There’s just something about childhood love. I completely fell in lovewith them. The balcony sneak, the rain dance, all those little moments — they were so well-balanced. Not too cliché, not too boring. Just... perfect. Whenever things got too emotional or intense, the humour would step in, and I loved that. So yes — I love the book. It’s the perfect book. The yearning, the intensity, the emotional depth — excellent. The best friend's moments? So cute.
I don’t know, but this comes as a surprise because Heal My Heart, the book, I related to Shivani so much. Like, she was the most relatable character I’ve read: the body image, the burden thing, everything else. But I didn’t connect that much with the book emotionally, and I didn’t love it that much. Honestly, I was waiting for that point where I’d get disappointed orfeel like “meh.” I even prepared myself for it. But it never came. Even the last scene — handled so perfectly, I was in awe. Also — Aarav Malhotra’s dialogue about being a man? Oh my god. I can’t. It was the perfect addition. It said what we all feel. It spoke all our hearts.
