Each child is precious, valuable...and beautiful. With simple words and detailed illustrations that relate to children's everyday lives, You Are Beautiful lets very young children know they are beautiful on the outside, and the inside. Children learn that beauty is more than skin deep and they are beautiful in many ways, just the way they are. A warm, affirming, important little book.
Part of an early education series for building social emotional learning (SEL), this title repeats the phrase “you are beautiful” across double-page spreads. It depicts children with and without adults and uses positive vocabulary to emphasize beauty in all forms (eg whether playing in the dirt, laughing, waking up, crying from getting hurt). The artwork is bright and colorful, representing children from different cultures. This is a short book with no plot or leading characters, but a helpful tool in reinforcing SEL.
Jack borrowed this book from the Ashland Public Library. He has enjoyed all the books in this series, so I snatched it up. It was the last one we needed to finish the series.
When I started to read the book, Jack was standing at his bookshelf to pick a different book out. But he stopped and turned and listened to me read the whole thing. He smiled and pointed at the boy trying on the superhero costume and the girl fixing her hair. He really likes how these books have detailed illustrations of other kids.
