I continue to be baffled by the appeal of these books, but I am not the target audience, and my seven-year-old is delighted when I bring a new one home from the library so perhaps I shouldn't judge.

That said, if we're going to write books in which royals are friends with peasants, and both female and male peasants attend school and turn in geography reports before recess, let's just update things a bit more and show some diversity in the characters, why don't we? Everyone is white. All the humans. All the gnomes. This is *not* a historically based story by any stretch of the imagination (we have a peasant girl miffed that she has to curtsy to a visiting princess, for goodness sake!) so it would be nice to see at least some of the characters in the kingdom reflective of the diversity in the children who are reading these books.

I didn't like this book because I do not like grubby fingers. I enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Lucas, Clara, and Bella went into a cave full of crystals.

I'm not sure I loved the plot as much in this one, but my daughter loved the scenery of the stone forest and we flew through the final 6 chapters in one night together.

This series is really great for children that are just starting chapter books! I started them last summer with the boys that I nanny and they both loved them (ages 7 & 4 ~ now 8 & 5). Before finding this series, the then 7 year old absolutely hated reading! But when we found this series for summer reading last year, he took off and has loved reading ever since! Now he’s read the entire series and the first 4 Harry Potter books!
I started reading them aloud to the 5 year old last summer and continued into this summer and he adores them!

I liked this book because I like secret passages and gnomes. I also liked this book because I like gems.

The kingdom of Wrenly is expanding for the reader in the way of more information about various parts of it. The stone forest has a lot of gems and Clara has never been there. Her teacher (Mistress Carson) wants the students to write a report and make drawings on a part of Wrenly they've never been to on animal hides to present to the class in a presentation. Meanwhile, Prince Lucas's cousins (King Rufus, Queen Eleanor, the stuck-up Princess Bella, and a dog named Percy) are coming for a visit from some unknown... land...? country...? It's never specified. In order for Clara to go to the Stone Forest with Lucas, Clara must find a way to include Bella or Lucas won't be able to go. She decided to mention the that forest just bursts with previous gems and sparkling jewels, and Bella agrees to go. It's given away on the cover, so there's no harm in saying that gnomes live in the forest.

It's actually a really good addition to the series and by far the best. 4 stars.

I am so glad there is a series with this theme for kids this age, but I was not thrilled with the content. I expected this book to be less cliched. The plot was predictable, the world-building was mundane, and the characterizations were thin. The elements are all predictably European with no surprises. I would have liked to see more drawn from less-known mythological philosophies. Also, I think boy readers especially would like a little more depth. A story can be simplified with age-appropriate writing without writing down to the reader's target age. I will read the whole series, but this was not a promising start, more like a Saturday morning cartoon. Nevertheless, I am sure there will be an audience for this. I am sure they will eat it up, but not sure it is destined to become a favorite.

When I learned of this series, I thought it would be great for my niece when she learns to read, or even now when her parents are reading to her. I got the first 4 books in the series and loved them so much that I decided to get the next 4 and plan to buy the rest of the series as well.

Although I didn't enjoy the 5th and 6th books in this series as much as I loved the first 4, I still think it's a great series for kids to read. I'm positive your kids will enjoy them.

From the looks of some of the reviews on here, I see that there are people with issues about things in the books, but your kids won't notice those things and most likely won't obsess over them like adults do, so don't worry about those reviews and just think about the level of enjoyment your kids will have while reading the series.

My Review: Another great book in this series! In the previous book Lucas, Clara & Ruskin had a lesson to learn and in this one they learn as well as help another learn a lesson. I like that we are branching out into more characters and that it isn't always Lucas and Clara causing trouble. I adore the Gnomes and the way they are depicted in the story, I would have loved to see some color in the illustrations in this one just because so much color was referred to but I still really enjoyed it.

Prince Lucas has a pet dragon, and his cousin, prince Bella, thinks that's silly! Gasp! How could she‽

...which is to say, there was plenty to emotionally react to in this book. It's not boring. The illustrations are gorgeous! There are lots of illustrations! And it's very easy to read. The student who recommended this series to me was right. :-) This is the first I've read, but I can already tell they are lovely books. Looking forward to checking out more from the library soon!

P.s. Always take book recommendations from students. ;-)

This adventure involves Lucas's very bratty cousin Bella and her dog Percy getting lost. I think that there are some lessons in here about not being a self centered person and not looking down on people who are not in your class, but I dunno... it was ok for me. I liked the way this adventure tied into things that Clara is learning in her class at school. That was good, especially since I have someone who doesn't want to do a book report next month...

With short easy to read chapters and abundant illustrations, the titles in the Kingdom of Wrenly series make good bridge books for advancing from picture books to longer stories.
The characters are enjoyable and the plots are interesting for early elementary readers.

The story was a bit eh; I think having an audiobook and this no pictures probably means we missed out on a lot for this one. Just listening to the text wasn’t especially interesting, and this one was a tad preachy too.

Still a really good series but I wish there was some diversity. Different kinds of mythical creatures are fine but they're all white.

So far this was my 8 year old daughter's favorite of the series. She loved the additional characters and the resolution in the end. She gave it 5 stars!

James liked how Prince Lucas's cousin came and his friend Clara didn't know and came over. Then a little later they went to the Stone Forest and Lucas's cousin lost her dog and they had to go find it.

Abbie also gave it five stars but didn't want to say anything.

In this sixth installment of The Kingdom of Wrenly series, Clara and Lucas and Ruskin take off to explore the mysterious and enchanting tunnels of the Stone Forest - where gnomes mine of jewels that only they can pry out. Unfortunately, Lucas and Clara's adventure is ruined by Lucas's snotty cousin Princess Bella and her obnoxious dog Percy. As a princess, Bella thinks she's above everyone else, including Clara. However, she's about to learn a lesson in valuing people for who they are, and not their station, when Percy is lost in the tunnels of the Stone Forest.

Having grown up with a cousin I didn't exactly get along with, as well as snooty girls who thought themselves superior to me because they were in public school (oh, how mistaken they were. . . .), I always enjoy snooty characters/cousins. I can relate very easily. And Bella was pretty easy to dislike in the beginning. Especially when she's a jerk to Clara.

It was really fun to see the Stone Forest, and therefore more of Wrenly. Part of the fun of this series is learning about all the different parts of Wrenly - and the creatures and people who live there. While Beneath the Stone Forest teaches a lesson in appreciating one's friends, it also is yet another fun, magical adventure that won't soon be forgotten by Wrenly fans.

The Kingdom of Wrenly books are fun little reads! They have wonderful black and white illustrations that break up the pages nicely with large type face. In #6 (Beneath the Stone Forest)Clara's teacher gives a geography assignment in class to research a place in the Kindgdom they haven't been to. Clara sees this as a perfect opportunity for her and Prince Lucas to go an another adventure.

When Clara gets to the Royal Castle to pick up Lucas, she is met by Princess Bella (Lucas' cousin) who initially looks down on Clara who is the daughter of a Seamstress (but is Prince Lucas' best friend). Bella begrudgingly accompanies them them on their journey to the Stone Forest where they fine a grove of stone pillars and arches which were formed by gnomes tunneling for gems beneath the ground.

Princess Bella's dog runs off chasing a squirrel deep into the tunnels. The princess learns a lesson in humility when one of the (dirty) gnomes help her find her lost dog. Princess Bella and Clara realize they aren't so different after all, and Clara had quite the story to tell when she got back to school!

A really fun early chapter fantasy for boys and girls K-2 with a pinch of medieval, gnomes, dragons and much more.
