Amar Purana is exactly the kind of book that makes you feel connected to stories you’ve heard growing up but in a fresh, easy-to-read way.
Each of the stories comes from India’s sacred texts and myths, but Puja Rai tells them in a way that’s simple, engaging, and actually fun to read, with all the goodness wrapped up with an ending that somehow tangles well with the web we're all facing in life. A lesson for each one of us somewhere in here.
What I loved most is how short and crisp the chapters are and you can read one in between tasks or binge through a bunch at once. 🙌 The language doesn’t get too heavy, and yet it keeps the essence and magic of the stories intact. From gods and demons to lessons of dharma and devotion, it has a little bit of everything.
If you’re someone who enjoys mythology retellings or just wants to dip into Indian sacred stories without picking up a bulky, intimidating book, this is a great pick. 🌸
Amar Purana takes a refreshing approach on the grand epics by drawing out the values, reflections and hidden life lessons from epics rather than just retelling mythology tales.
Through 22 engaging stories, the book connects timeless wisdom with modern, everyday life. Themes like integrity, significance of our choices, real happiness and even gender stereotypes are explored through character examples of Yudhisthira, Duryodhana, Kuber etc. Book felt really thoughtful and easy to understand.
One story that stayed with me was about Kubera. It beautifully conveys 2 lessons of impermanence and coexistence. It is a gentle reminder that growth and evolution are possible for everyone no matter where one begins. Also the world thrives when we learn to coexist in harmony.
What also makes the reading experience unique is the Crossword puzzle at the end of each chapter. It adds an interactive element while also adding to the knowledge of readers
