Five years ago, they were my everything. Kai, Adam, Reis, and Markus. They were my protectors, my best friends, my forbidden fantasies. We were inseparable...until a lie I was forced to tell shattered everything. They disappeared overnight, leaving me to pick up the pieces without them ever knowing why. Now they're back; bigger, broodier, untouchable. Rock legends who command sold-out arenas. The same boys who once held my heart now act like they want to crush it. But instead of letting me go, they're holding on even tighter. They think I betrayed them. They treat me like a villain. But I know the truth, and I'm done staying silent. The harder they push, the more I push back. Beneath the bruised egos and bitterness, something fierce still burns between us all. Lust. Loyalty. Love. Maybe even something worth fighting for. The road to forgiveness won't be easy. But isn't that how all great love songs begin?
2.5 stars. I’m a bit of a sucker for a rockstar romance, and a reverse harem? Well, that’s a cherry on top, so I was an easy sell to read this book. There were some good moments and the characters were well differentiated, aided through the use of multi-POV storytelling. However, the premise was stretched too thinly over these 560+ pages, with a lot of repetition and overly prolonged miscommunication scenarios. This story could have been stronger if edited down to roughly 350 pages, though i wouldn’t want this to come at the cost of the epilogues, which I enjoyed. I think this was related to how they introduced new developments, rather than rehashing past mistakes and making the same declarations, again. Another downside was how every female character, besides the FMC, was written as a ‘bitch’, most often of the man-obsessed, jealous variety. I really dislike this kind of stereotypical, anti-feminist portrayal of women, often designed to elevate the protagonist’s attributes and singularity. Then there were the errors, and oh, so many! From misspelt words to missing words, grammatical errors, non-existent words, continuity errors (e.g. the FMC saying she felt a sensation in her bra cups, when her bra had been removed a few sentences earlier), and the odd and unnecessary occasional use of bold type for emphasis… arrghhh!
Just a few of the many examples of errors that should have been caught on the first proofread:
-there isn’t anyone looking at us around -whipping it across it in the room -trapezing around New York -has a mischievous grin on his face shows just -his hands slide all move me -if they’re eyes land on you -then comes what the question we were waiting for -Adamm (referring to one of the MMCs, Adam) -I take a steading breath
I really don’t understand how authors allow their creations - into which they’ve presumably invested much time and effort - to be published without putting a corresponding amount of care into editing and independent proofreading (especially when software and specialists are so easily accessible these days).
Let’s see…where do I start? Because Alina has seriously done it again with another amazing book! Not only was I hooked from page one, but I didn’t stop until I was finished! Trust me, the lack of sleep was so damn worth it!
I mean, if the tropes didn’t seal the deal for me…reverse harem, rockstar romance, second chance, friends to enemies to lovers, touch her and ☠️, and trauma…the captivating story of 5 childhood friends, broken apart by overheard miscommunication that takes you on an intense emotional rollercoaster ride damn sure did! I laughed, I cried (like a damn baby at times) and had my heart torn apart viciously and then slowly pieced back together, stitch by stitch!
I won’t go into details of the story, let’s face it, the blurb is posted everywhere with the book, so you get the gist of it, but honestly, you should go in blind and get captivated by this story for yourself!
I am so damn excited to see what the amazing mind of Alina comes up with next!
This is the second book I’ve read by Alina, and while I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the first book of hers I read, I still had a good time with it. I absolutely loved her last book, and with tropes like reverse harem, rock-star romance, friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, touch-her-and-die, and trauma, this one felt like a no-brainer for me to pick up.
While the writing itself was polished, the characters’ actions and dialogue sometimes came across as more juvenile than what I’d expect from people in their late 20s. The trauma element also didn’t fully land for me; a group of friends took off and left one behind over a minor miscommunication. Honestly, I would’ve got over that in a few weeks, so seeing it linger 6–7 years later didn’t feel realistic to me (maybe I’m just cold-hearted).
Reisyn is hands-down the most frustrating boy ever. Everything that went wrong was ultimately his fault, and no amount of grovelling could redeem him in my eyes. (Give me a badass killer or a man who spanks a little too hard, grovels, and I’m all over it. Reisyn? Nope. Sorry, not sorry.) He’s quick to fly off the handle and confront others, yet when it came to Melody, he overheard something and ran instead of facing her. That choice completely lost me.
However… Adam, Kai, and Marcus balanced things out beautifully. Adam, in particular, was such a sweet soul.
What I did love was the way the multiple POVs gave each of the guys a distinct voice and personality, and the steamy scenes were spicy, especially the group scene. They were wild in the best way, and messy (very messy).
So despite some predictable or cheesy moments, the story kept me hooked, and I couldn’t stop reading to see how everything would unfold and whether the characters would find healing.
All in all, it had me hooked, making it a solid 4 stars for me.
Y’ALL!! The way these men were so DOWN BAD for my girl 🫠🫠 we love a yearning man, can you imaging having 4 of them?!
Now I know I should have favorites but Markus and Kai were my favorites I’m not even going to lie to you! 🤭
Anywhoodles, back to my review… this book gave me everything I needed from a book! There was betrayal! There was yearning! There was groveling 🥵 There was even more betrayal! But the way these 5 main characters loved each other made it all worth it 🥹 please please please read it if you’re a fan of reverse harem! If you’re not, that’s totally fine but you won’t like this 🤣
‼️As always check your trigger warnings before diving in‼️
This starts off as a friends to enemies to lovers which is one of my all time favorite tropes but the whole premise of it is miscommunication which I hate but can forgive if it makes sense as many of these stories do. This one is not that at all. It’s not miscommunication it’s an author wanting to write a story and giving the flimsiest excuse to hate the FMC that they have have made an important and insanely protected part of the MMCs. I almost DNFd it after the first few chapters but I read the reviews and I thought it would get better and show there was more to the absolute inexcusable behavior that the MMCs portrayed. Nope it gets worse. The author doesn’t keep a consistent history of timeline at all is it 7 years they are apart or 6? Did they leave at the end of her junior year or the beginning of her senior one? Are they 17 or 18 when they left. Did she move to the school when she was a freshman or when she was 16? Are the rockstars in their early to mid twenties or late twenties like was said during the first concerts performance?
RH is prob my favorite trope and these guys lived up to all of it! One simple conversation overheard turns into a life changing in the worse way. Melody is in love. With her four guy friends. She lives in a state where people would call her a whore or worse because of her feelings so she hides them from everyone. When two of the guys overhear here saying some stuff they pack their stuff up and leave and never look back. Now famous musicians putting on a show only to see a girl getting hurt and pass out..that girl..is melody. Now she’s back in their lives and revenge is on Atleast one of their minds but the others are simply trying to get her back past be damned. With a manager that seems to hate her from day 1 and fans and everything else can melody believe that she’s meant to be with them and that it won’t destroy everything that they have built.
The guys are amazing it’s truly a toss on who’s my fav I’d say Adam though. The group scenes 🫠🫠 chefs kiss!
What makes the perfect rockstar boyfriend(s)? 🎸🎶 ✔️ Protective and caring 🖤 ✔️ Tatted and creatively pierced ⛓️😜 ✔️ Their songs are only about her 🎶 ✔️ Lotttttttts of groveling for their mistakes 🙏🏻😌
On The Edge has it all and more with multiple POVs, giving you a chance to really see each character’s special quirks and strong personalities.
My first experience with the reverse harem trope was a bit overwhelming trying to keep up with everyone’s thoughts, feelings and whereabouts, but overall Ali delivers an addictive, bingeable story full of raw emotion from start to finish.
Buckle up babes, On The Edge is one wild ride ❤️🔥
Reader (18+), this one is exxxxxtra steamy! Be sure to check TW and read with care 🫶🏻
Melody & Reisyn & Marcus & Kai & Adam. Whew that's a lot for one woman. Reverse harem isn't my thing, but I love Alina's writing so I took a chance on this ARC. It paid off. It starts off with miscommunication (also not my favorite) but the rest of the book made up for it. The relationships the FMCs had with each of the bandmates was beautiful and special. The characters all seem real and relatable in their emotions. Of course, check the trigger/content warnings - there are plenty. But if you can get past those, this book is rewarding in all the right ways. I enjoyed it so much. It's a big book -a little over 500 pages which means lots of getting to know backstories, emotional rollercoasters, spice, and relationship building.
I received this eARC from the author and my review is voluntary.
Where do I even start? This book sucked me in from page one and I legit had to put it down sometimes. Alina’s writing is soooo immersive.
High school feels, anyone? Melody’s journey hit hard from outcast → bestie squad → abandoned → reunited with successful band members years later.” That tension? The unresolved feelings? SO gripping, I love it sm.🔥
And the guys? Each one totally different, each one giving Melody something unique 😏🎸. Sure, a few slow-burn moments, a little miscommunication, maybe a predictable part here and there… but honestly, I didn’t even care 🤷♀️
⚠️ Heads up: bullying, drugs, alcohol, and a LOT of spice 🔥🔥
If you’re here for reverse harem + angst + slow-burn + a well-earned happy ending ❤️🩹 , this is it. Emotional, steamy, and SO much fun.🤭🎸
Drum roll please…. On The Edge was freaking awesome. Right from the first page I was hooked. Melody was abandoned by Reisyn, Kai, Adam and Marcus all due to miscommunication. I so wanted to kick their butt and ring their necks. Sadly I was not able to. Fast forward years later they end up seeing her in the audience of their concert. Oh my did I forget to mention they are ROCK STARS. Yep so hot right???
I love how they all still love Melody years later. After talking through everything they realized they really messed up years ago. I love all the groveling they do. The spice oh my goodness is off the freaking charts. Like hot hot hot.
Kudos to Alina Martyn for writing such an amazing book with lots of angst, insecurities, secrets, trauma and let’s not forget the spice!!!!
I have a soft spot for the reverse harem trope! This book was well written and wasn't cheesy at all! Not like any other RH I have read before. If I had to pick a favorite guy it would be Markus lol the way he interacts with Melody is so tough and sweet at the same time. I loved how we got to see all 4 of the guy's interactions separately with her. Obviously, there are group interactions, but I think it gave us a better view of how different RH relationships can be. Loved the way the story was written out, and I loved how every time I turned around Alina hit me with another hook! Absolutely devoured this book!
What a fantastic book! With rockstars, RH, second chance, friends to lovers, and much more inside. Right away I was pulled into Melody and her guy's story. This book takes you on a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. With so many feelings going on. Miscommunication being a big issue. Thankfully, we dont wait long for answers. There was heartbreak, insecurity, anger, hope, healing, and so much love. Reisyn, Adam, Markus, and Kai. These guys love their girl so much. They constantly tried to prove that too. I cant forget about the spice. It was off the charts hot! 🥵 I loved it! I was also very happy with the ending!
Ohhh I really enjoyed this book. This if the first time I have read a book by this author, and I will definitely read more by her.
I absolutely adore a rockstar romance. She absolutely nailed the MMC’s, and she wrote these men to perfection. My love for them only grew with each page, and I envied Melody having these amazing men in her life.
This book had everything. The story, the love, the angst, the heartache. It’s everything I love in a book. I would love it if there was ever a sequel to this. To be able to read about their lives further on down the line. I would eat it up.
I enjoyed reading it! I was hooked immediately and I finished it in one sitting what I love!!
The characters their emotions were written so well it really made a connection between reader and character I loved how emotional and protective they were and the FMC was an absolute baddie!!
If you like a rockstar romance with why choose and that is an emotional rollercoaster I’d absolutely recommend this one to you!
Tropes 🥀MMMMF 🖤Friends To Enemies To Lovers 🥀Rockstar Romance 🖤Trauma 🥀Touch Her And 💀
Where do I start? As soon as I read the first page, I knew that I was hooked. So much happens that it is hard to put down.
Full of rockstar romance, reverse harem, trauma, miscommunication and spice, what is not to like. Melody (FMC) goes to a concert where she sees Kai, Markus, Adam and Reis perform. At first she is happy to see them but things change. The same is said for the guys as well. When things finally seem to be going up, the manager who has a dislike for Melody starts planting seeds of doubt into her.
This is a must read and I thoroughly enjoyed every second.
On The Edge was so angsty, and wowowowow did it suck me right in. The steamy scenes were extra spicy, the different POVs between the boys were fantastic, the plot lines were INCREDIBLE. The grovel was just right 👏🏻 Kudos to Alina for making me love a character I hated for most of the book lol I was sucked in from start to finish, and I will definitely be reading this one again in the future. I was hooked!
If you love an angsty, second chance, why-choose rockstar standalone, definitely pick this one up 🎸🤘🖤
Contemporary, rock star, reverse harem. In high school, Melody becomes best friends with four young wanna be a rock band boys. Typically high school emotions cause typical communication break downs and they leave her and run off to NYC. Years later she accidentally sees them in concert and realises her old friends are now stars. They've never stopped loving each other and a new relationship develops with all the required angst and emotional baggage. Well written and edited, but unrealistic and a bit too long. Good entertainment.
Alina, you did it again! Such a beautiful story! Melody's relationship with each man was so individualized and intimate. I tried to pick which one was my favorite guy, but in the end I decided why choose! I really appreciated the multiple POVs and how we really got to see inside each of the guys' heads. I loved this book for so many reasons! And the spice? Just the right amount without turning the physical connection raunchy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌶🌶🌶
I loved this book and it was a great spicy read and nice storyline. I will be honest and for me there were times that it felt like it was dragging on and pretty predictable because of that. But it was a very enjoyable read! I loved that each character had their own story and personality that made each relationship with each other. This was my second read from Alina and I was not disappointed! I can’t wait for more!
Where to even begin?? This book consumed me from beginning to end I had to force myself to put it down! Alina's writing flows so well and paints such a vivid picture of everything and it really envelops you in the story from start to finish. This is the second book I've read from her and I feel EVERYTHING that she writes. All the emotion, the heartache, the love she makes it so fulfilling and I get consumed every time. *** PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS**** there are mentions of bullying, drugs and alcohol and OF COURSE TONS OF SPICE!!
Everyone has been in high school before and how awkward it is and how real the crushes/relationships feel like and honestly? Sometimes they're one-sided... but what happens when they aren't one sided with one guy.... but four best friends? When Melody stepped into the small town in Oklahoma in dark clothes and a little too much makeup she was labelled the outcast from the start. A close friend group took her under their wings and started to fall for her, but in their senior year they just decide to leave her without a trace or a way to communicate with her. Fast forward five years and Melody got tickets to a concert in Tulsa for a band called "On The Edge" and she swears that these are the same guys that were her saviors in high school. Spoiler Alert they are, but everyone seems super hostile with one another. Were those feelings a thing of the past or was this the jumpstart they need to finally be happy??
The storyline, the characters, the twists, the spice scenes 👌🏻 this story was written beautifully, shows how everything is not always as it seems and why communication is important. If you want a book with amazing characters, who go through trials of life and love, this is for you.
I got to arc read this!! Absolutely loved it. Second chance romance. They all meet in high school. Something happens and they all drift apart. They become rockstars. So dam good.
Okay hear me out… there’s these 4 rock stars and they’re all in love with her but also sort of hate her. They’re from a backwards small town where “this” sort of relationship is definitely not acceptable and everything seems to be working against them all getting their girl. This complex, messy (very messy 💦) adventure was so fun to read. All of these rock gods are gone for this girl in their own way and I love that for her.
I’m blown away by how good this book is! There are characters I hated from the start, like Reisyn, and others that I initially thought were sweet and fell into the book boyfriend category, like Adam. Then there are characters who surprised me, such as Kai and Markus. The female lead feels raw and real, with insecurities that are front and center, along with a lot of underlying pain and trauma.
I loved the Bible Belt aspect and how it shaped all the characters. This book made me laugh, cry, feel rage, and ultimately find hope.
Reverse harem, with some good old miscommunication at the start leading to hurt feelings on both sides. With the band members taking various amounts of time to come round, and a manager who really doesn’t like our FMC, it takes a while for a happy ending, but boy do they earn it. A great read.
