Rogue is a rule follower through and through.

Working as a bounty hunter for the paranormal council is the perfect job for this Seelie fae, especially considering she can sense mistruths. Things get muddy when what the council believes doesnʼt line up with what she sees with her own two eyes.

Everything points to her suspects being innocent, while one of her coworkers begins to look guilty. Things compound when she realizes her targets are her mates. Not to mention the connection she feels to her boss at the bail bondsmanʼs office.

Torn in two directions, Rogue is in crisis.

Does she follow her heart? Or honor her commitment to the paranormal council? And what happens when fate intervenes, attempting to drag her in a completely different direction...

This is Rogue’s complete romance with no cliffhanger. With that being said, there are overall world plots that carry from Ember’s Claim to Rogue’s Crisis. I highly recommend reading these two books in order.

ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Comfy, cozy, and spicy! Just the way I like it and exactly what I’m looking for in a Jillian West story.

This is a longer novella, so expect a fast-paced story, instant connections, and a quick resolution to all problems.

Part of the second generation of A Monstrous World, it is best read after Ember's Claim (or even better, do a tandem read!)

Thanks to Jillian West for the advance reader copy

I enjoy this book and loved the FMC. Rouge can definitely take care of herself in any situation, she’s a strong woman and I love it. Definitely need to read Embers claim to grasp this one.

*Must read Ember’s Claim first* Rogue is a bounty hunter working on a case. While investigating a potential lead, she discovers the possible criminal is her mate. After some discussion and finding her other mates, she learns her mates aren't the bad people she was led to believe. Rogue's life gets a lot more interesting.
I love this world. This book is a little confusing in the beginning but if you've read Ember’s Claim it will make sense. I love these characters, especially with how different each species is. I enjoyed how the characters from the other books made an appearance in this book. Overall great book.

4.5 *

One word of advice from me would be to read “Ember’s Claim” and “Rogue’s Crisis” in one go (or do a reread before diving in). Even though this book can technically be read as a standalone, the start can be a little overwhelming without enough background from Ember’s part. I read too much to remember storlines weeks, let alone months, after reading and I was a little overwhelmed because of it.

That being said, I did like Rogue’s story. It introduces a less used “species” for a male love interest, and some fascinating powers and worldbuilding elements. Once the story started to flow a little more naturally for me, I enjoyed every step along the way, and the author managed to give them another great happily ever after. I’m really hoping to see them again as side characters in the future, giving shelter to some main characters… The Sithen they’re living in really fascinates me and I’m not entirely done with it yet.

I’m hoping Rogue’s sister will get her own story in the future, but I realize I say something like this every time one of Jillian’s books is done so perhaps I should just wait and see. Chances are I’ll love it anyway.

This might actually be my favorite in the entire monster series. Rogue is such a badass and definitely doesn't need her men protecting her 😌.

Out of the guys Calyx is definitely my favorite. There's just something about him that I loved. All the dark flirty humor and how obsessed he is with Rogue right from the start. Plus he has reanimated pets so like?? Yes please??

The SPICE. Like oh my gosh the spice. When I tell you it was freaking plentiful. So good.

thank you to the author for the gifted arc

I want my own sithen! What a cool creation.

Rogue and her fellas were a handful. Between solving a case to clear her mates' names and going through a quickening, she was a busy fae. I love how she ended up being bonded to the sithen too and protecting the souls brought to her there. Glad we got to see Rogue's HEA.

I am at this point just finishing these up. I think it was a solid read but it's lost some of the original pizazz if you will of the earlier books. maybe I just didn't connect with rogue?

Having read the Monstrous World Series as my first Jillian West books, I've been impatiently waiting for all those children of my OG favorites to meet their mates and go on adventures. I love that Rogue's story overlaps at the start with what we read at the bar in Ember's novel. Bounty hunter Rogue is the rule follower and while it can cause issues, it also shows her character and that she genuinely cares about others but doesn't always know how to put that into words or show it. Her boss, Owen seems to baby her which really gets on her nerves...how is she to know it's because he knows she's his mate and he and his much sought after and hunted animal have been fighting one another sine day one to get closer to her but also give her space. Oh and the guys she's hunting? A VERY old Lich, Calyx, and his warlock thrall, Cohen may also be her mates. The Paranormal Society may have assigned the case, but that isn't the only weird and illegal thing happening in and near Haven. This is written so beautifully that it feels too short. You know how you read something and it's so good you almost cry because it's over? That was this story for me. And the sassy Gemma included and some visits by Atlas and Malice made it even more perfect. Add in a sentient house and a loving Tiger named Ash, and you will love this family.
Your cast for this low-angst second generation story is:
Rogue- Soothsayer Fae. Tends to be a rule follower, but understands some things happen for a reason. Very caring, but can be awkward. Doesn't feel at home in the human world and with technology.
Calyx- Lich, a millenia old, very sassy and easily bored with locations since he's so old and has lived so many places. Lost his soul jar...but can easily unalive himself to respawn near it.
Cohen- Warlock tied to Calyx. Self described nerdy and quiet, but very caring and shows his love through taking care of others, especially Rogue and Calyx.
Owen- Shifter of a highly hunted after origin. Rogue's boss who co-owns the bounty hunter business. He fought the mate bond to give Rogue more time to find out who she is, but his animal had wanted her since day one and isn't afraid to show it.
Ash- one of Calyx's revenants. Tiger and absolutely loves water and pools, plus also Calyx and Rogue by extension.

“No matter what she might say, her favorite days are when we get new guests. My favorite days? All the ones I get to spend by her side.”

✔️MFMM why choose paranormal romance
✔️seelie soothsayer FMC and berserker, warlock and lich MMCs
✔️age gap
✔️dad’s best friend
✔️enemies in the pack
✔️fated mates
✔️she’s hunting them (and they want to be caught)
✔️no pregnancy, kids, cheating, OW drama or 3rd act breakup

I love this author’s paranormal books, and this one was no exception. Though this is technically an interconnected standalone series, I highly recommend reading Ember’s Claim before this one. The timelines overlap quite a bit, and though the author provides a catch up/what you need to know guide at the beginning, it is really helpful if you have read the other book first. That said, this is a fun romance that is low angst and has just enough action to keep things interesting.

Rogue never really fit into the human realm, and she finds her place at the sithen between the human and fae realms. The house decided she is to be the caretaker and it is sentient, so that provides some fun/funny moments throughout the story. Once the house has expanded enough, she is able to provide a respite for travelers who are moving between the realms and help them find safety if needed. Like I said previously, this book is very low angst and there is no drama within the pack even though this is a case where the FMC makes the pack (and her mates assumed they were her only mate). Fate put the four of them together for a reason, and it all works out fairly seamlessly. Though there are technically enemies within the pack, they get over it very quickly for Rouge’s sake.

Rogue has so much power, and we only see just a hint of it, but I love that she is powerful without her mates. She is able to defend herself if things go sideways, even though she doesn’t tell anyone that she inherited some of her mom’s power. It is always fun to see glimpses at the first generation of Haven monsters again, and the story arc/mystery that started in Ember’s Claim was tied up perfectly.

Read it for the vibes

This is sort of a stand alone book in that it focuses on a new pack (Rogue’s story) but it really is a companion book to Ember’s Claim. It had been a bit since I last read it so I felt a little confused re: the timeline of things. Thankfully Jillian included a blurb about how the stories link up.

Overall, I have to rate this 4 ⭐️. It had a good vibe but there’s a few issues I had with it—primarily that I couldn’t remember all of the world and relationships between characters since it took place in the same city as A Monstrous World and the other next gen books. If I hadn’t read them, it would have felt like a true standalone but I of course had to go back to the other books to get the family trees straight in my mind. Additionally this is a novella so it goes quick and there isn’t as much character development as I’d love. It also felt like the problems got wrapped up in a little neat bow that was just a bit too convenient.

But again, I still absolutely loved the vibes of this book. The spice was spicy, the pack was super fun, and their interactions were amazing. I loved all three MMcs and they all had well developed personalities (although they didn’t really grow as characters)

First we have Cohen, the sweet nerdy golden retriever warlock. Then there’s Owen, a Viking berserker with an inner bear—he’s the protective rule following type. Last there’s Calyx, an intelligent, powerful, and super confident lich. I got Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock vibes from him—if Sherlock was over a thousand years old with powerful magic and tattoos. He also has pets 💙

But the REAL mvp is the sentient house. Trust me, the house is full of sass and personality. I was laughing out loud at some of the scenes. I definitely need more sithens.

Again, definitely a good “read it for the vibes not a literary masterpiece” kind of book. If you love paranormal RH then this is a great read.

I want to like this as much as I do the rest of Jillian’s books, but there were a lot of pieces in the main plot that just didn’t connect to me.

Going into this I knew the MMCs' names, Calyx, Cohen, and Owen, and I was really concerned that I was going to get them mixed up since Cohen is almost a combination of the other two names. However, one thing Jillian is amazing at is making each MMC distinct without completely relying on stereotypes, so it wasn’t even an issue.

I was intrigued by Rogue's and Calyx’s powers, and I wish we had seen more of them. Also, while there was definitely the start of the feelings, I don’t think we saw Rogue and the MMCs fall completely in love with each other.

In the afterword Jillian mentions this wasn't her original plan for the book but there wasn’t enough interest in the series to commit to her original ideas, which explains the forced feeling in the main plot. This is her job and business, and she has to consider that when making these difficult decisions. As far as interest goes, I think Jillian could write the other books she had planned but market them as standalones. New fans wouldn’t be intimidated by them being in a series or labeled as the “next gen”, but fans of Jillian would know how the characters are connected and it could be a fun easter egg for them.

Thank you, Jillian and Sarah, for giving me an ARC of this book!

Reading the next generation of the monster world is a little bittersweet. I loved the parents' stories, and I am happy to say that I love the second generation just as much. I know I am going to be heartbroken when this world wraps up, but that day is not today! So bring on the monsters. <3 Rogue is such an interesting character, and I would love to get more info about her and her mother's powers eventually, but getting this peek at her powers was so bad@ss. She's fiesty and mouthy, and I love her guys for her for obvious reasons. Owen is a big, muscled shifter, and I love the gruff, growly attitude. I didn't realize how much I would love reading a JW lich, and that is a new monster to add to my favorites folder, thank you for that.I was absolutely enamored with Calyx and Cohen from Ember's book, and I was happy to see them come back for Rogue's book. Cohen is so sweet and lovable & I am so glad they got to do the bonding that he deserved & needed. Atlas was one of my favorites from Gen 1, and I love that he makes an appearance in Rogue's story too, even if it was only for a short while.
I was hoping for a Gemma book but I know Jillian has a bunch of other projects planned for us soon. I would love to see her nightmare self being courted though. I can't wait for the next book, whatever it may be.

I mentioned in my review of Ember's Claim that I love when we get to see the second gen get their HEA. This book was no different. While it is a standalone, I highly recommend reading Ember's Claim before this one as the plot carries through both books.

I think one of my favorite things about this book was the magic. I loved seeing Rogue learn more about what her magic could do, how strong she was, and not be as scared of the magic she inherited from her mother. I also love that she was able to find a compromise to being unhappy in the human realm, or having to leave her family to go to Faere.

Seeing the unique magic of her mates was also extremely interesting. While I had heard of both briefly over the years, I have never really read any stories where they were explored in such detail. The sithen was also something I rarely see in books. It was a really interesting concept and made the book super intriguing.

I don't know if it was the intention, but I feel like both Ember's Claim and Rogue's Crisis had a similar theme through them. Not necessarily of hope, but as in, things have been so messed up for so many generations and the universe was finally putting things in place to correct some of that.

I've been not so patiently waiting for this book for what feels like forever. We got hints for Rogue's story in Ember's Claim that just left me wanting her story asap. I definitely suggest you read Ember's Claim first and this one right after.

Rogue, along with Ember and Hazel, have been charged with bringing in a suspect. Ember has her own things going on that take place in book 1, which leaves Rogue and Hazel left to complete the assignment. What Rogue doesn't expect is for the suspect to turn out to be one of her mates. When her infuriating boss she has a crush on decides to pull her from the investigation, she knows she can't walk away.

Cohen and Calyx are the suspects, and their relationship develops pretty quickly with Rogue. Owen, on the other hand, is her boss, and while she's had a crush on him, he's never hinted he feels the same. What further complicates things is that he's friends with her fathers.

Overall, this was a pretty satisfying read. We get some danger and intrigue while Rogue investigates and tries to find out who is behind the crimes. We definitely get spice because, of course, Jillian West always delivers on that. I loved the animal side kicks. I hope Hazel gets a story and what's going on with that character introduced at the end?

So, the book starts off with facts from Ember's Claim. Which is why I recommend reading that book first. Sure, this book is a standalone and can be read as one, but it's less confusing and easier to get into, if you already knew the background from Ember's Claim.

Otherwise, I loved Rogue's Crisis. Generally — I know at this point I repeat myself — I love every book written by Jillian West. Her Monstrous World series, is in fact one of my favorites, since it's combining things of different genres. Like, I love stories where there is a “normal” world with a secret paranormal/monstrous society, and it has some overlaps with Omegaverse. As there is often some sort of match/bonding, that is similar to the ones that you find in Omegaverse. And Omegaverse is one of my favorites and is something Jillian West is renowned for. That's how I found her, and I'm a reader since the first book.

I loved too how she brings in different species and how she is writing characters that are unique. With their own quirks. I loved all the characters. Calyx was one of my favorites. I love a dedicated mate. Tho, all the guys are. And I loved Ash! I mean, animals are always great.

So, 5 stars. Can recommend reading it! :D

The beginning of this one has some overlap with Ember’s Claim…so if you don’t remember all the things from that one you might want to reread it…or read them back to back if you are new to the Next Gen series! 😊

I loved seeing Rogue embracing all the sides of her magic & the dynamics between her, her siblings & her parents. Her trio of mates couldn’t be more different from each other while also being exactly what she needs. Cohen is the sweetest, nerdy warlock…Calyx (the plague doctor) is so much trouble, he is definitely the mischievous one, but can seem so innocent while stirring things up…and then there is Owen, her dad’s best friend & a berserker bear shifter who is having a hard time accepting the fact that his mate is his best friend’s daughter.

Sithen…I have so many questions and while this book answered a lot of questions I still have just as many! 😂

I absolutely LOVE this world. The Monstrous World Series was my first Jillian read and the Next Gen series has been just as amazing! I know this is probably the last in this series at least for a while, but whenever she decides to take any future books for this series of the shelf I will gladly devour them!

I adored this book! Jillian West is an author read author for me, but something about this book felt so good. Rogue's character is one I genuinely am still thinking about days after finishing this book. Even though some people may hesitate because this is a second generation story, you MUST take the leap and read this!

Rogue is a strong, independent young adult woman who is basically a walking lie detector with some serious magic. She works as a bounty hunter of sorts with her sister and best friend (who has the first book in this series), while also harboring a serious crush on her boss, Owen. Struggling to be treated like an adult among creatures that are centuries older, she finds herself with soulmates who are hunted by the council...well, Owen who has secrets of his own. I love that there is a house with such personality that it basically becomes a character in and of itself.

This book is a really great paranormal romance. Just give it a shot and don't fear the 'Next Generation' series name, it's really good!

Rogue might live to follow the rules, but this book gleefully breaks every single one, and I loved every second of it! Our uptight, truth-sniffing Seelie fae bounty hunter thinks she’s got it all under control: find the bad guys, haul them in, get paid. Easy, right? Wrong!

Plot twist number one: her suspects aren’t shady criminals, they’re her mates. Yes, plural. Plot twist number two: her coworker might be the real villain. Plot twist number three: her boss is suddenly looking mighty fine in that morally grey light, too. Rogue’s poor moral compass never stood a chance.

I cackled, I swooned, I yelled “GIRL, SAME!” more times than I care to admit. Watching Rogue fight herself at every turn torn between duty, desire, and fate just rolling its eyes at her stubbornness is pure entertainment.

If you want sizzling chemistry, magical messes, and a heroine who tries so hard to keep her halo on straight while the universe says absolutely not, grab this immediately. Rogue may be a rule follower, but this book is pure delicious chaos and I’m obsessed!

🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3/5 Spice

I am a huge fan not only of The Monstrous World by Jillian West, but I am also a huge fan of second gen. I was so excited when she announced Rogue’s book, as I was ready to dive back into the monstrous paranormal world Jillian created.

I absolutely loved Rogue has a female lead. She’s strong, fierce and extremely loyal to those around her. Plus, she’s got some cool sidekicks in a tiger named Ash and house that simply adores her. I also really enjoyed the MMC’s in this one, as each brought something unique and special to their relationship with Rogue. I might be impartial, but I’m team Owen all day every day.

While considered an interconnected standalone there’s so much history from the original Monstrous world that I highly recommend starting with the Monster’s Den, so you get the full effect of the world Jillian has created. If that seems daunting don’t fear, you can get there by also starting with Ember’s Claim which kicks off the second gen series.

I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was bothering me about this book until I got to the author’s note at the end and it all clicked. It turns out that a lack of interest in the series led to the author cutting short the development of this book. What was originally intended to be a full length book, was shortened in a way that would wrap up loose ends from previous stories. I get it, it’s a business, but man it’s so disappointing. I only read the paranormal series in the first place because of Greer’s change, which I still think is Jillian West’s best book. It’s too bad that the second gen books didn’t get enough interest to justify continuing. In comparison to the other books in the series this one really fell flat. It felt rushed both in plot and in relationship development and I think West only scratched the surface of what the story potentially could have been. I’m glad she tied things up for fans, but part of me is pretty disappointed that Rogue didn’t get as much time and development as she deserved.

The Name Fits 😝

Rogue doesn’t just have a crisis in this book, she has a whole dang dilemma of life changing proportions lol. I mean, that’s what I’d call it when you're a bounty hunter sent out on a lead, and then your investigation leads you to your mates, some of whom are the “bad” guys. Of course, we all know there’s no way that would happen, and what comes next was one wild ride with an amazingly strong & fierce bada$$ FMC, and some seriously sexy & strong MMCs. Once again Jillian dives deeper into the monster characters she introduced us to, and I love that we just never know what kind of mix she’s gonna throw at us. I truly hope we end up with more in this series at some point. Jillian has created such a fascinating magical world, and I’m always entertained when I visit. Be advised, if you haven’t read Ember’s Claim yet, you’re gonna wanna do that 1st, and then read this as soon as you can afterwards. It’ll really help follow the events when the book 1st starts.

Rogue's Crisis is the newest addition to the Jillian West Paranormal universe. It's fantastic!

This book takes you on a journey with Rogue as she tries to find the correct people responsible for robberies. Along the way she meets her mates, and they're all amazing! I loved the originality of Jillian Wests Paranormal and Omegaverse books. Rogue's Crisis is no different. It's not cookie cutter, I didn't feel like I've already read it, and I didn't get bored. As a seasoned reader it can be difficult to find a book that doesn't read like the 100 I've read before it. Going into a Jillian West book gets me excited because I know it's going to be different, and I know I'm going to love it. Rogue's Crisis was original, intriguing, and very well written.

Rogue's Crisis took me on an adventure, it sucked me in and didn't let go until the last page. I can't wait for next one!

While we can all agree Jillian West is the queen of Omegaverse, she definitely isn't holding back with PNR. Rogue's crisis is the third book in Jillian's A Monstrous World: The Next Gen series. We got to watch bits and pieces of Rogue's story while reading Ember's Claim and it is safe to say that I've been thirsting after Calyx's story since then.

This book touches on a bit of all of the tropes I love to see: Enemies to Lovers, fated mates, and don't forget Dad's Best Friend (YUM!). We've got cute totally not zombie pets and zero pregnancy or kids in this one. The action is actioning and the spice is spicing.

Obviously, make sure you've recently read Ember's Claim or you might miss out on some of the bigger plot points here as the two are deeply connected. Greer's book, however, can be read as a standalone.

This one was a wee bit shorter but, that didn’t take away from the story or my interest. I really loved the dynamic in this one. With the FMC not being so much as standoffish but, there being more of a push and pull.

The intrigue in this with the mystery of what’s going on, on all fronts really caught my attention. Including how the MMCs will work together.

The troupes were great and the uniqueness of the “species,” is that the right word? Grabbed me and made me go down a rabbit whole of the mythology.

The spice was a 10/10 and you know me I love a good innocent learning moment if you know what I mean.

This book also should definitely be read after Embers Claims cause it makes it much more understandable and enjoyable. You get to see the other side of what some characters were doing during Embers Claim!

I love Jillian’s books…PNR or Omegaverse I am going to read it. I really wish more people would give the PNR a chance because you get the same type of feels with the PNR that you do here that you get from the omegaverse books. She still writes the same types of characters that translate over. Guys who are devoted to their mate and will do anything for them. I really am excited and happy that she decided to finish this and answer the questions that were left off. I really hope she does continue writing PNR because I really do love this world that she has built and find it fascinating. I really love the history we got even more in this one about Rogue’s maternal family. I totally think I am going to do a reread now!

This was another excellent paranormal book by Jillian West. I have been a big fan of the entire Monstrous World Series, including the Next Generation that this book is part of. The books all are in depth with great stories and amazing characters.

I loved Rogue in this book. Her insecurities are very much obvious but she is a strong character with a great head on her shoulders. I love her story, and her mates. Calyx was probably my favorite as he was quite quirky, but Cohen and Owen also brought a lot to the story.

While the human characters were all well-written, I think the star of this book was the sithen. This was such a unique storyline and I really hope we get to see more of it in the future.

Overall, this was another great story by Jillian West!

This world is so intriguing. With every Jillian West book, I get sucked in from the very first page. This one was no different. I’ve been looking forward to Rogue’s book, and I’m so happy we finally got her story. Her powers are so incredible and powerful, but she uses them purely for good. She has an amazing heart.

Calyx, Owen and Cohen were the perfect trio for her. They each contributed to something different, and it really kept the story flowing. I love the different characters, monsters and fea. I love this world!

This was an amazing plot driven story, with its own mysteries to solve. In addition the tension and connections between the mates, were off the charts and so hot! The spice was so good 🔥
