It's New York, the summer of 1914. A shocking murder. A wrongful arrest. A city built on secrets. A man who won't back down.
In the final golden days of the Gilded Age, before the world tilts toward World War I, Charles Bennington is a man with everything to lose. Two years after marrying the woman he loves, Lily Whitaker, he’s finally carved out the life he once only dreamed of—until a single phone call shatters the illusion. Her brother Cedric has just discovered a body…and the police believe he put it there. Charles never imagined he'd be fighting to save his brother-in-law from the electric chair. As a scandal erupts at the Hotel Belmont, Charles finds himself caught in a web of secrets, lies, and political corruption stretching to the highest levels of the Empire City. With the police unwilling to look any further, Charles is determined to clear Cedric’s name. He begins a perilous search, willing to risk everything to expose a truth that powerful men will kill to protect.
"Scandal at the Belmont" was the newspaper headline after the murder at the Hotel Belmont owned by Charles Bennington's father-in-law. Charles's brother-in-law is arrested for the murder--of his best friend. Everything points to his guilt, unless someone digs deeper--through corrupt webs of city government and power, and a family who believes in providential intervention. Very satisfying.
This book was amazing! I loved the first one and this one was just as exciting! The characters are wonderful! Dan's word pictures are great! I could see everything that was happening! The storyline kept me glued to the book!
Great story! Dan Walsh, you’ve hit a home run. We read it and couldn’t put it down till the last sentence. Congratulations on another hit - a story well told!
Never disappointed when I read Dan's books. Always pointing to the Christian beliefs of the characters. I've read them all so far and can't wait for book #3!
Just finished Scandal At The Belmont the second book in Dan Walsh’s Gilded Secrets Series. This time it is Charles Bennington’s turn to stand behind his brother-in-law Cedric, who has been unjustly charged with the murder of his best friend Reggie Ashcroft. Charles basically has to step in and do the job of the police to investigate details of the murder and bring the true killers to justice. As always with Dan’s books I appreciate the deep faith exhibited by the characters and in this book that is particularly evident in Charles Bennington’s life. Now I am sad as I will have to wait on the next book in the series. Thanks Dan for another great read!
I really enjoyed this second book in Walsh's Gilded Secrets series. If you haven't read the first book, The Perfect Stranger, you will enjoy this one more if you read it first and get to know the main characters and the time period. The pacing of this book is done just right, and the suspense is handled very well. I liked the characters even more than I did in the first book. I was glad I could read it all in one day!
Scandal at the Belmont is book 2 of the Gilded Secrets series by Dan Walsh. Since I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 of this series I was looking forward to reading this book. I didn’t know what I was in for. There is a murder, an arrest of an innocent person, good cops and bad cops with corruption higher up, and a family with faith that truth will prevail. I truly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend this author.
I am a big fan of Dan Walsh and his books. While this one was not my absolute favorite of his, It still had the emotional impact that I’ve come to expect from his books and characters that I really cared about. I found this one a little harder to get into for the first quarter of the book, but I would say by 50% in I wanted to keep reading to see how it all turned out. I would still recommend. Four stars.
I rarely read sequels, but much to my surprise I throughly enjoyed this book. It didn’t have much repetition to the first book and gave just enough review to keep the story interesting. I’m really looking forward to the 3rd book. I love Dan Walsh’s books. He is one of my favorite authors.
Every time I read a book by Dan Walsh I find myself wondering when I will get the pleasure of his next one! And "Scandal at the Belmont" certainly gave me those same feelings. It is a page-turner that I enthusiastically recommend. Do yourself a favor and buy it at once!
Scandal at the Belmont is an excellent book. It has a good mix of suspense, mystery and a little romance. It takes courage to pursue right when those in power are comfortable with the status quo. Dan Walsh does a fine job in showing this. I highly recommend Scandal at the Belmont.
Both stories in this series are excellent. Loved the Whitaker family. Charles, the son in law great character. Most of all I loved their faith in God, their trust that He would be right beside during the most difficult times of life. Good mysteries!
I have read many of Dan's books. Enjoyed all of them. I like how the family in this story cares for each other, that they had faith in God and that the ending completes the story in a very positive and happy manner.
An excellent story filled with great characters with lots of twists and turns. From a tragic murder that causes an innocent young man to be framed for murder . It took time to find the truth.
Another great story from Dan Walsh. I have really enjoyed all of his books. Such a great writer and I especially appreciate that he sees no need for profanity in his stories.
Another great story by Dan Walsh. This is the sequel to The Perfect Stranger, and this time we find Lily's brother Cedric wrongly accused of murder. The mystery, the politics, and the family dynamics all made for a good read.
Again Dan did not disappoint me in this book. It kept my interest until the very end. I really liked how he could show his readers that any time of day a prayer can go up. Dan keep writing your wonderful books!
Very good story! A murder happens at the Belmont Hotel in the gymnasium. As the accused is arrested and held over for trial, Charles pulls out all the stops to find evidence that the police haven’t found. What a surprising story to find who the real murderer is.
This story grabs you from page 1. I couldn’t put it down! This is a well written story about a young man wrongfully accused of murder! This book is the best one I have read in 2025! I look forward to reading more titles by Dan Walsh.
Again I can't say enough good things about the many books Dan Walsh has for us to read. Add this one to the list . Entertaining, suspense and family. I highly recommend it .
Another great book by Dan Walsh! His writing of this time makes me wish I could go back in time! I absolutely love the Whitakers and Bennington’s! Can’t wait for the next book in the Gilded Series!
It's a sequel that can be read independently. What a wonderful work of Christian fiction. Nothing like reading a thriller by one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend it and you won't be disappointed.
A great murder mystery, starts slow but gets exciting fast as Charles investigates this unusual perplexing murder! Another excellent story by Dan Walsh.
