Lincoln Peirce is a cartoon artist from Portland, Maine. He lives with his wife and two children, and occasionally gives lectures to students about cartoon creating. Peirce writes the comic strip "Big Nate". Peirce's comic strip, Big Nate, is featured as an island on the famous children's website, Poptropica. Big Nate appears as the first cartoon on The Maine Sunday Telegram in the comics section.

He studied art at Colby College in Maine were he began cartooning. He also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before teaching art and coaching basketball at a New York highschool for 3 years. He currently plays hockey with "an old men's league" and describes it as his best sport as a child. In an interview with the Washington Post, Peirce stated that his last name is pronounced "purse" and is not a misspelling of "pierce."

Lincoln Peirce was a member of the "Surviving as a Print Cartoonist" Panel at the Maine Comics Art Festival with fellow cartoonists Corey Pandolph (Barkeater Lake, Toby: Robot Satan, The Elderberries), Norm Feuri (Retail, Gill) and with Mike Lynch moderating. On the panel Lincoln revealed he is currently working with some animation and licensing projects including the addition of a Big Nate island to the online game Poptropica.

My Review: Big Nate is back and this time he is Mr. Popularity. In this issue, Big Nate decided to run for Class President. But he thinks that the process is flawed. Then again why should the popular kids be the only ones to get elected, and not the unpopular kid like him? Will Big Nate become Class President or will the popular kids win again?

Follow Nate as he goes to summer reading program, an opportunity to get his comic strip in the newspaper, trick-or-treat, t’was the Nate before Christmas and many more strips.

Another funny book kids would love to read. It has bonus activities to crack you up. Write your own caption action, match sketch to strip, trivia and more.

Librarians will appreciate the first few pages, especially the storytime comics which had me laughing out loud. Other fun storylines include Nate running for Student Council President, scheming to hit on Jenny while Artur is temporarily out of the picture, and Nate's sessions with the school therapist.

Great series for grades 3-6, especially for fans of Peanuts and Wimpy Kid.

The Big Nate books are funny for everyone from five to fifty-eight years old. I ought to know, I was the former and am the latter now. My son also enjoys them.

This is one of the newspaper strip collections to include the Sunday Funnies. Here, Nate learns that popularity (he wins the class president election) is fleeting and very quickly he finds himself back in the daily scrum with the rest of the students. Since his nemesis from Mrs. Godfrey's class (Gina) has been elected class treasurer, he also finds himself spending more time with her.

As Gina is far more quick-witted, Nate rarely comes out on top. He does, however, find a wonderful use of parliamentary procedure that nearly drives the poor girl mad. That scene alone is worth the purchase price of this book or even as part of the box set that it is sold with in some retailers.

Highly recommended for fans of Big Nate and other kids literature such as Captain Underpants and The Wimpy Kid.

This book is about Nate is running for president and he is taking everything serious all the times. And then he is trying to be the most popular person in the school but then Marcus is still the most popular in the school. And I would recommend this book to people that like books that are comic and that are funny. The part I liked the most was when Nate was putting all the posters so the school could vote for him to be president. That was my favorite part because The people that were president for most the ask to vote for them but they said no because they already voted for Nate.

I like these funny books with wacky stories. I just like the mood I get from these books. Even though Nate is just messed up with some things he does, he still is a good character in this book. I like the Class President story. Then Nate expects everyone to like him but everyone just ignores him It was pretty funny.

Fantastic!!

I love that Nate wanted to be president because he was versing the two most popular kids at P.S 38, and that he kept messing around with Jenny, even though she is going out with Artur, and that Nate kept telling Gina “No”, which I thought was HILARIOUS!! I love your Big Nate books, Lincoln Peirce! Along with your Max and The Midknights!

Note: this is the first I have read of anything Big Nate-related.

An okay collection of comics originally published 2009 to 2010. The collection was fine, mostly I just don't think it was a good fit for me personally. I had a difficult time assessing who this book was targeted toward. The characters look like elementary kids, are supposed to be teenagers (I think?), and talk like adults. I didn't find most of the humor funny. It felt very adult and I didn't see it being very humorous to young readers. The funniest part for me was the seemingly self-aware joke in "Reality Bites" on page 134 about kids sounding too adult and programs being unrealistic because that's not how kids talk to each other.

I also really wasn't feeling Nate's obsession with Jenny. I get that it's a crush and it's supposed to be funny, but she makes it clear she's not interested and he still keeps trying. These strips were originally published in 2009/2010 and complied in 2014 so I get they're a little dated. But I think we should all just be done with this storyline. Presenting it as normal to keep bugging a girl who makes it obvious she doesn't want to be with you (and also has a boyfriend) isn't my thing and I think we need to move past it.

Overall, this book was okay. There were a few silly moments, but overall it wasn't for me. Fun art style and relatable topics like homework, school sports, class elections, and dating. Includes engaging activities at the end such as creating captions and deciding what happens next.

Nate Book ideas!

Hello! I love your comics and they're really funny and cool!

(Ratings)

Plot twist: 6/10
Ideas: 8/10
Romance: 6/10
Overall: 8/10

I recommend this book for 9+
And here I have ideas!!
For my first idea is that Nate accidentally (not) breaks his promise and tries to hit on Jenny so when Auther comes back and says what Nate did in Nate's dream! I think that would be a great plot twist!!

Good for kids, not nostalgic adults

I used to read Big Nate a lot as a kid. I've outgrown most of it but not because it's bad or childish, but rather the material just can't be relatable to a person who is, as of writing, pushing 25. I find it funny and charming thinking as kid. It even made me chuckle a few times but mostly from an observer's perspective and not as a person who would be like "I've been there."

Nate becomes class president

This reminds me of a cross between Calvin and Hobbes and Charlie Brown. Mostly in this one, Nate somehow gets himself elected class president. Of course, he likes the power and the “popularity” it brings him. It also showcases his crush on Jenny and his other struggles to be in the limelight.
