No Power is Strong Enough to Keep Him from His Lifemate
Auden, the immortal king of the Anathergians, is lost within a sea of emotions. Rocked to his very core from his battle against the Variants, he fears Travik—father to Auden’s Lifemate, Leah, and the Anathergian who turned humans into Variants—has committed the ultimate evil and killed Leah. Desperate, Auden struggles to discover the truth.
And what of Leah’s foster brother, Ceadan, who turned into a Variant to save his sister? Was he successful? Did he survive?
Auden and his fellow Anathergian warriors join with the council of witches to search for—and hopefully save—Leah and Ceadan.
Will they find them? Are they alive? And what is Travik’s evil plot for humankind?
Michelle C. Reilly is a single mom of two wonderful boys, and a grandma to three wonderful kiddos. She spent ten years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and is a 100% disabled veteran. She has a Masters in Science in Public Health, but she is generally an IT geek and nerd of many other things. She currently resides in Colorado with her two dogs, Sophie and Lyra (aka The Mud Dog), and her cat Moose (aka 'Moosifur').
She self-published the ANATHERGIANS saga, science-fiction/paranormal romance and suspense stories that revolve around a powerful alien species who landed on Earth over five thousand years ago. SAVAGE WINDS, her venture into time travel romance, was picked up by The Wild Rose Press.
She's currently working on a romantasy trilogy that is TOP SECRET!
Auden is inconsolable following the death of Leah, his Lifemate. But Ceadan has an ace up his sleeve, and finds and releases Leah from her father's grasp, and reunties Auden and Leah. Just when they think its happily ever after, a bigger threat is revelaed, and not only Leah's life is at stake, but the whole Anathergian race.
After reading Variants (and you really MUST read that first to get the whole picture!) I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall, I was left hanging so badly, I really was. This book follows on immediately after that one, after Auden releases the full weight of his power. MArcus, Nico and the others cannot do anything for Auden, just take him home and wait with him while his fate is dealt. And the first few pages of this book, we all felt Auden's pain at the loss of Leah, it jumps off the page at you! I truly hoped that poor Auden wasn't going to suffer for long!
And he doesn't. Leah's brother, Ceadan, comes to the rescue, and I loved, LOVED the way he left clues for the others to find him. I loved that he knew what he was doing while doing it, that he might not survive, but his sister needed to.
As the title suggests, The Witches play a large part, and those ladies made me laugh! Their descriptions, their out fits, and attitudes, love them! They assist with Leah after her release, and they assist with Leah after its discovered what her father has done to her. Leah's Grandfather turns up too. But I'm not sure about him, I think he has a bigger part to play in the next book.
One thing, although this is the second book in the trilogy, there was a novella after Variants, and that overlapped a little with this one, BUT there is no mention of what happened in THAT book, in this one.
Again, we get to hear from all the major players, and I loved that. The ending isn't quite a throw-your-kindle-at-the-wall ending as Variants, but very nearly.
I cannot wait, but am gonna have to, for the third and final part in this series, but I do know there maybe another novella along the way to keep me in my Anathergian fix.
In the cliffhanger ending of the first book in the trilogy, King Auden believes his Lifemate, Leah to be dead and is nearly inconsolable in his grief. Thankfully, that turns out not to be the case, but Leah may have wished at times for death. Ceadan, Leah’s foster brother (who has now been adopted by her Lifemate), puts his own life on the line to save Leah when she is abducted, proving his love for Leah and his own ingenuity when it comes to leaving clues for the others to find.
As with the previous book in this trilogy, I was not happy at all with the fact that we were left, once again, in a cliffhanger. That is usually enough to make me throw my hands into the air and decide to never read another book by the author. However, Michelle C. Reilly does such a wonderful job in making her readers become invested in the characters, the concept of the story, the plot, et cetera, that it would seem almost disrespectful to not continue with the story. As a result, I’m giving this book a 5 out of 5 rating. I look forward to the final book in the trilogy, and, as an even bigger compliment, I’m intending to see what else I can find by her.
This book is recommended for those over 18 who enjoy hot sex with an Alpha male and who like writers who take a potentially tired genre and flip it on its ear.

5 Fangs Leah is finally realizing where she fit in and her and her life mate Auden are finally clicking when she was kidnapped by her father. Ceadan changes his looks and gets in with the Variants to help save her from the inside while Auden and his men try to save her from the outside. Will she survive? Does she still love Auden? Read it! Love where the story picks up after the cliff hanger! Ceaden really came through and was a star in the family for this one! Loved how it ends up back where it all started at the witch’s sanctuary! My favorite scene is the escape, Ceaden to the rescue! 18+ violence and sex paranormal romance Reviewer for paranormal romance and authors that rock and Michelle C. Reilly.
While I have come into this trilogy with a third already done (and have not had the opportunity to read the first book), I did not find myself missing any pieces. That is not to say that the first books shouldn't be read first - it should as it would bring a greater continuity and context.
I found Witches to be an enjoyable read and will certainly look into picking the other two books up to read.
I really do enjoy this series and everything goes together. I love the characters they are unique and the plot flows flawlessly. Craedan is going after his sister no matter what. She is his only family and he will not sit around and do nothing. Auden is to filled with grief to do anyone any good. Leah is in a world of trouble and we wonder what will happen to her without any help. I can't wait for the next book.
I have enjoyed reading Witches and how Ceadan saves his sister. Felt sorry for Leah and Auden because of what her father tried to do too her. But was glad to see she was able to be transformed back to herself. Thank you for the great read.
