I really liked this book, I am new too cooking alllll things inside my Slow Cooker, outside of soups and meat dishes, so this was rather a refreshing read, though I missed seeing the photos! I find that really helps the creativity to get going, but again, on the plus, less photo pages allows for more recipes, and I loved that too.
Well I bought this because I had seen some rave reviews online. I am not impressed. I did like the bank of colour photos at the beginning of the book, there are none to accompany any of the recipe details and it's a bit disjointed in the way it categorises the recipes, which makes searching a little difficult.
It took me a while to find a recipe for the chicken breasts and the ingredients I had, and then she does not recommend cooking chicken breasts in a slow cooker, she prefers to use chicken with the skin on. I can see the reason behind that in that the chicken could dry out, but cooking with the skin on and not pre-frying first (not recommended as it destroys the flavour) leaves you with soggy skin. Not pleasant in any dish. So I dished the slow cooker and cooked my chicken breasts in the oven instead with a mixture of a curry paste massaged over the top. Turned out well without the slow cooker! But I had wanted to cook using the slow cooker which was the point of buying the book, but couldn't find a suitable recipe for my ingredients, although the vegetarian ones detailed looked okay I think.
I'm not sure if I will cook many dishes from this book, and those that I do will not involve meat it looks! Rather disappointed really, and it was an expensive book.
Bought on the recommendation of a friend, I used this book once and the recipe didn't work. The food was uncooked and inedible. I'm not sure if it required a different type of cooking pot. However, I lost confidence in the book and it now sits on the shelf
I thought this was really promising and liked the range of different recipes. I’ve tried three or four and had mixed results. One worked really well a couple were okay and one was a disaster. I’ll try more but select the recipes carefully.
A favourite slow cooker book of mine - I especially like the dal/legumes section. The recipes are fairly easy to follow, so you won't find yourself spending hours on the preparations for a "set it and forget it"-type of meal. It's not much of a coffee table cookbook, though.
