From the twisted and tormented mind of artist, author, and musician, Matt Martinek, comes a truly disturbing tapestry of horror that will continue to haunt readers long after they've turned the last page.

PRAISE FOR BLACK THE COLLECTION...
"Extreme horror at its best... These stories are brutal, fast, and worth the read." JavaCat Bookstore
"Great little snippets of horror... looking forward to [Matt's] next collection." Dan McKeithan
"Fast and brutal extreme horror. Definitely worth the read." Sandra Bassett
1. Reading a story that a mother calls her child a "soon to be corpse"? No mother would ever refer to her child like that.
2. Has one story referring to a famous serial who killed young MEN but his spirit is appeased when a character kills a WOMAN. Come on.
3. 110% of all the previous reviews are fake do to "reviewers" having no profile pictures and just so happen to rate EVERY SINGLE book they read 5 stars.
It's been a long time since a book has pissed me off this much. Not only due to writing style but due to the fact the author has no concept or knowledge about anything he's writing.
Black Ends: The Collection by Matt Martinek is an anthology of 23 short horror stories, and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Some of these tales are graphic, unsettling, and unflinching—and sometimes, the villains win. I loved that about it.
This book took me through so many emotions—anxiety, sadness, and unease—and a few stories have stuck with me long after I finished.
In Futurefuck, we see what happens when robotic sex dolls go too far. In #22, a fan of a serial killer buys a painting that turns out to be far more than he expected. Vincent Rides the Bus made me second-guess public transportation. And The Legend of Loomis Lane shows how one man’s love for Halloween and lack of family support can spiral into tragedy.
Not for readers sensitive to themes like suicide, sex, sexual violence, stalking, or miscarriage—but for those who can handle dark, raw horror, this is a must-read.
Horror fans/readers are sure to find something in the eclectic Black Ends that they enjoy. There are some stories I don't care for here, and there are others (#22, The Ledge) that truly stand out.
This is the kind of collection you can pick up and enjoy at your own leisure without affecting the complete scope of the read in continuity terms. The stories have a singular, unique feel which makes jumping back and forth from them invigorating. Despite there being some stories that completely did nothing for me as a reader, that is subjective.
From the perspective of someone interested in potentially checking out Black Ends, pick it up for the sake of it being thought-provoking, and often, enjoyably bat-shit crazy.
I loved this book from the very first story I knew I was gonna be hooked and I was. So many short but awesome stories
23 horror tales that will make you think wtf is wrong with this author/story, make you gag make you laugh if you have a messed up mind like me. These are not for the weak of stomach or the faint of heart they are gross and disturbing disgusting and they are fun.
They cover so many different topics or situations. The only common denominator is in the end someone’s gonna wind up dead. There are some pretty heavy topics so it’s definitely not for everyone.
23 horror tales that make you go eeew! Matt brings us a wide range of stories that cover all sorts of situations. One thing they all have in common is that you know someone is going to get it in the end. It's an easy read with the length of the stories being able to be finished in one sitting. Great little snippets of horror before bed. For me the best of the bunch was The Howl and the Wail, nothing can take away a mother's love for her child. I'm looking forward to his next collection.
One of the best books I’ve read this year. It was hard to stop reading and put it away for the night. There’s a lot of short stories that go from mild to extreme horror. Delving into the supernatural and taking a turn into the darkest depths of the human mind. Disgusting, bloody, and creepy in the best ways. 23 twisted stories that definitely stick with you long after you’ve put the book down.
What an awesome collection of horror shorts! They are gritty, dark, brutal, and cover a variety of tropes. This collection does lean towards the extreme horror side, so be aware there may be triggers! All of the stories are very well written and I look forward to reading more from this author!
Loved this book. This author did a great job writing these stories and putting them together in this book. I had a hard time putting it down once I started reading it. I Highly Recommend This Book Especially during October
I haven’t read an anthology with this many stories I genuinely enjoyed. Each story was like a dark secret or confession from a diary. They were unsettling and raw. All different; all equally disturbing and entertaining.
