A Blessing on Your House!, volume 2, let’s us get to know Yuuji’s acid mouthed brother, Kenji, and his not so secret admirer, Yocchan. Together, they deliver quite a few laughs in this comedy romance manga.
Kenji Miza really is a demon (or oni) disguised as a Buddhist priest. Yacchan, the son of a dry cleaner in love with Kenji, fully admits to Kenji’s unpleasant personality. But Kenji’s beautiful, and Yocchan values the way Kenji honestly expresses his feelings, even if they are abusive, and anyway, Yocchan can’t give Kenji up. But the stakes are raised as another suitor and a mysterious man from Kenji’s past turn up.
Also in volume 2, Yuuji, Kenji’s younger brother, deepens his relationship with Saburou, who has his hands full with Yuuji’s emotions running all over the place. But Saburou is also nervous about being in his first gay relationship. It hardly matters, though, because the townspeople who love hardly give them time to be alone.
Every bit as enjoyable as her other series, “Like the Beast,” this one is definitely a keeper. I’ve fallen for the whole cast, and am looking forward to the remaining volumes (available in an official English version on Futekiya.com or in Japanese from either CD Japan or Hana Republic. I know there are other, unofficial ways of reading this work, but I try to support the author/artist by buying it in some form).
Yamamoto-sensei really made all the characters in this manga super interesting, especially Yuuji, Kenji, and Yoshito.
Even though Yoshito is my favorite because of his funny antics, Yuuji as the MC always manages to stand out and get the spotlight, hahaha. With all his naivety, innocence, and clumsiness, Yuuji is really loveable.
Also, Yamamoto-sensei did a great job portraying the Miza brothers.
I had one chapter left!!! Why did I put this down for a month?? Ah! I wish the cleaner boy had ignored Kenji even longer. I wanted Kenji to have to fight for him a little more. This is a really cute series although it can be a bit juvenile sometimes.
I see where this is going and I already know that is going to drag on for an unnecessarily long amount of time. Do I like it though? I still don't know but I like the awkwardness of it all (yes, bring me more of this!). Yuuji is so precious and Saburou-kun reminds me so much of Nozaki-kun for some weird reason. I do find the comedic timing to be on point and it makes me laugh out loud several times. Kenji is so bossy and bratty, I love him.
