I LOVED this book and read it over and over again when I was a beginning reader. I hope it's not out of print. I'm so glad I still have my paperback copy from my childhood.
This is a fantastic story illustrating how we all sometimes get a bit overwhelmed and need a break from each other. It is a timeless piece offering hope to those seeking rejuvenation and respite from chaos. This was the first 'chapter' book that I remember reading as a child at the age of six and I still have that (very worn) copy and think of it often as I am now 47 and often seek to escape the craziness of life!
I remember reading this to myself as a small child, with my mother anxiously hovering over me. At the time, I was mostly confused by the premise - you could move out of your house? What was this madness? - but I loved it anyway. The pictures are classic Kellogg, and the simple story is a treat. Molly is the oldest child in a family of rabbits, living in an overcrowded home with her siblings who have an unfortunate tendency to break her things. When she can't stand finding her books ripped, her flowers smashed and her lipstick smeared on the mirror, she decides to move out. Finding a little cottage in the woods, she happily settles in. "Now," she thinks, "I can have peace and quiet." However, it doesn't quite work out that way...

This was my favorite book when I was a kid. Molly is a rabbit who gets sick of her family and decides to move out. But much to her suprise, she realizes how important all those relationships are to her, after everyone is gone.
I read this book when I was about 7 or 8 and fell in love with it! I was so much like Mollie and wanted to move out. I have since bought my own copy and read it to my children, who also love it but not for the same reasons.
Molly Moves Out by Susan Pearson is one of my favorite books of all time. It's what I would call 'young reader' level, and it struck the cord of my crazy independent streak, even when I was very very young.
