Carroll Vane Glines, who retired from the United States Air Force as a colonel after twenty-seven years of service, is historian for the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders and curator of the Doolittle Library at the University of Texas at Dallas. He has been published in a number of publications and written and co-authored numerous books on military and aviation history.
This book revolves around an aircraft 'like no other' as it frequently asserts. Great read to anyone who enjoys historical accounts. Fun, scary, and overall well written. Although the book revolves around an airplane its the history and story of the people involved in this flying machine that truly makes it worthwhile - and that is good, considering I feel like a caveman whenever the book switches to hard science as it dabbles on airplane technology to which I have only but the slightest idea.
Excellent recap of the career of everybody's (over the age of 50) favorite airplane. While the book is a bit dated (1979 latest copyright), the fact remains that a good number of DC-3's are still flying! Great book, great memories.
