Fae Guardians #10

The Company of Vengeful Crows

Rate this book
There’s a reason crows circle overhead nightly. It's to remind themselves of where they’ve been, where they’re going, and, most importantly, who they’re with—who is friend, and who is foe.

Guardian River spent years cataloging every detail of how his best friend accidentally electrocuted his wings, leaving him scarred, flightless, and furious. The healers say his molting is psychological. That he needs to “forgive and forget” to heal. Crows don’t forget. And River won’t forgive. Nothing—not injury, not duty, not friendship—will stop him from delivering justice.

But then Blake Hartley turns up and everything changes. She’s a glittery, stubborn, married human from the past with a knack for fixing broken things and a smile that makes his feathers twitch. She’s not supposed to matter. She’s not supposed to get him.

When their bond snaps into place, he becomes desperate to deny the one thing he swore love. Crow shifters don’t mate like other Fae. When they fall, they fixate. Obsession ruined his best friend, and now he can’t breathe without Blake’s emotions bleeding through their connection. She’s optimistic when he’s drowning in vengeance. She believes in second chances when he knows some betrayals can’t be forgiven. She believes broken things can be fixed.

The problem is, River is starting to believe her. He’s starting to forget, to forgive, which is dangerous now that secrets are surfacing. Ones that threaten to rewrite everything the Fae Guardians thought they knew about their foes, their friends … even the ones they loved and lost.

And at the center of it all?
Cloud.
River’s best friend.
And perhaps ... the villain they never saw circling.

After nine books of secrets, the Company of Vengeful Crows is finally gathering. This isn’t just a love story. It’s the spark that ignites the beginning of the end.

Perfect for fans of found family, forced proximity, fated mates, fish-out-of-water heroines finding their inner power, magical crow boys with unresolved trauma and their “who did this to you?” flavor of obsession. And wings. Not safe to read at work.

Each book in this “Best of Booktok” series features a separate couple with a satisfying HEA. Read them out of order for the individual romance and spice, or binge the lot for the plot. Definitely the plot.

Dangerous crow boy whose job it is to destroy plastic except it is 800 PAGES OF THE MOST UNHINGED MATERIAL I HAVE EVER READ

I don’t know whether to give this 1 star for the way it has virtually no plot but a man is a crow or 100000 stars for the way it made me cackle in its ridiculousness so I will settle for not giving it a rating

Every time I read romantasy it takes a bit of my soul

⭐️ 3/5
🌶 2.5/5
🧠 4/10
Cliffhanger: 4/10
Noteworthy: Book 10 of an incomplete series. 3rd person limited POV. Available on KU.

Don't let my rating influence you on this one. My problems with this book are mostly my personal quirks. I absolutely recommend this series and this book.

So why didn't I like this one as much as I expected to? A few reasons not the least of which is the major selfish fboy energy River gives off. Even taking into account his stint of abstaining from his favorite pastime, he still seems to spend a whole lot of time thinking of and satisfying 'little River' in this book, if you know what I mean. The crow's whole centuries of life has been dedicated to flirting, debauchery and his efforts to drag his friends along for the ride. It was so ick to me. Props for him not letting a mate change him though. The man knows his priorities. 😂 It also bothered me that he took so long to put his mate first. The loyalty to his friends felt greater than to her or even his blood family. I suppose I get it but it felt so uncomfortable to me. He was not letting go of that crows before hoes mentality. I felt like he eventually redeems himself but man does it take a long time to get there. I also struggled with Blake's insecurities a little. I understand why she felt that way but wished she had started feeling secure a little earlier in the story.

There is a lot going on in this book and a fair amount of it is establishing some back story for the other 2 crow guardians Ash and Cloud. It is vital information for the remainder of the series. I loved meeting the families and their drama was kind of fun. The twist on Blake's gift is also unique and was unexpected when I started the book.

Ultimately, even though this isn't my favorite in the series I'm glad that I read it and am so very intrigued by the next 2. To be honest my favorite thing in this book is a single paragraph about Cloud in the last chapter. Bro has been put through it and I need him to catch a break.

⭐️ DNF @ 61 pages

I’ve officially hit my breaking point with this series, and it kills me to say that after investing in nine hardcovers of the previous installments. The first seven or eight books worked for me because they offered depth, character building, emotional tension, and the kind of earned intimacy that makes fated mates stories so powerful. But these last two? Total derailment.

This book lost me at page 60. Why? Because the very first time the MMC lays eyes on the FMC (and mind you, he hasn’t even seen her face yet), his dick twitches back to life after two years of dormancy. That’s the big moment. That’s the grand introduction to his fated mate. Not recognition. Not a soul-deep pull. Not a magnetic awareness that builds anticipation. Nope. Just a crotch twitch.

I get that the point is supposed to be the mate bond awakening something in him, but you don’t need to cheapen it by writing it this way. You could write about the sense of inevitability, the shift in the air, the haunting recognition. Something that lays groundwork for emotional and romantic payoff down the line. Instead, we’re handed porn-level shorthand in a book that’s nearly 700 pages long. If I wanted porn, I’d pick up erotica — not a sprawling fantasy romance where I expect character and relationship development.

What frustrates me most is that this series used to deliver exactly what I loved: protective heroes, strong heroines, fated mates handled with tension and heart. Now it’s all instant lust, zero build, zero depth. The FMC in the previous book was insufferable because her inner monologue couldn’t rise above lusty nonsense, and now we’ve doubled down on the MMC’s crotch as a compass.

I am so disappointed, and I’m done. This is a hard DNF for me, and I won’t be continuing the series, nor will I be recommending it.

This is the long awaited book that starts the story of the crows saga and I loved that it was slightly different than what has been previously written for this series. Not only did we get River's story, but we were granted the wonderful privilege of the backstory of how River, Ash, and Cloud came to be guardians and that their brotherhood preceded their time before they entered the cadre.

River and Blake meet at a market right after she has awoken from her deep sleep, not knowing when and where she is. Just as she is being swindled out of her shiny objects, River pops into view and changes her life. She no longer has the husband who belittles her, but a crow guardian who can't seem to stop thinking of her as *mine, mine, mine*. While River shows that a crows love is obsessive and forever, Blake puts back together the broken parts of River's heart that were shattered by Cloud in his need for vengeance for the death of Rory.

River wars between his desire to make Blake his entire world and his need to make Cloud suffer for the injustices of ruining his wings. Blake is just trying to see where she can fit in this world and the value she brings to it. In moments of hardship, she just has to remember, "Two feet and a heartbeat", and knows that her and River will make it no matter what.

I felt it was a bit more darker than the previous books but I liked it. I also really loved the recap at the beginning as I debating if I should re read the series but I have a lot of other books that are waiting to be read so the recap was very much appreciated.

I cannot wait for the next book of the series!
also, Nero needs to dive off a cliff as im sick of him 😒

I am writing this review after receiving as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I loved it!

So it’s now time for the last three books; the Crow Guardians. Though this is mostly River and his well-blessed mate Blake, we get to venture into the culture of Crows. So many things have happened in the last 9 books, especially book 9, so please go read them! River and Blake are meeting with all our favorites from the previous books. However, so many things happened in War of Ruin and Reckoning that you have to read that. Now River’s story reminds you of some bits of events. The battle was five years ago, and River is out to find Cloud. Blake is awoken. Don’t think this is going to follow along like the other well-blessed mates….because there is a whole new different way things are going to go down.

I loved Blake and River! The banter is organic and just fits. The 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ is pretty good! I recommend this entire series to everyone! And has to be my second favorite out of the entire series. Of course this is ending on some cliffhangers, not severe enough to revolt over, but driving me to hurry up and wait for the next two. It’s close to finally end and Ash and Cloud also need closure, on top of the big baddie Nero! 5 stars, 4 because I loved it and the 5th because I’ll read it again.

Tried to remain spoiler free!

I didn't know that I needed River's book until now. Obviously, I knew River was completely unhinged and insane in many ways. What I didn't know is how pure it's his soul. I love him. Also, Blake it's the perfect match for him too, and I loved the chemistry and relationship between them. But, of course, this wasn't only about one couple, this story is also about the Triad of Crows and OMG...perfection is the only word for this. The Triad is more than brotherhood, it's a bond and in this book we have glimpses of that. I laugh, I cried... this book is a roller coaster of emotions and definitely one of my favorite's so far.

Wow. This book was absolutely worth the wait.

This is the first of the final three books in the series (book 9 of 12 total). You can tell from page one that the author has been saving the crows for something big. It’s been so long expected, and she still managed to surprise me with a nearly 700-page monster of a story that somehow never dragged. Honestly, she delivered and then said, “you wanted plot? have more plot.”

River and Blake’s arc is emotional, obsessive, slow burn and explosive all at once. The author has always been good at romance and story, but this one hit different. Gritty trauma meets glittery optimism and suddenly I’m feral for a crow boy with issues. You can feel we’re standing at the edge of something huge.

What I loved most is how every crow is still a mystery. Each member of the Company of Vengeful Crows is enigmatic in their own way, tight-lipped, wounded, half-truths everywhere. You get answers, sure, but even more questions hiding underneath. The author is clearly setting the pace for what’s coming, dropping hints, tying threads back to earlier books I forgot I noticed, and now I want to go back and reread everything like a conspiracy theorist with red string. I’m equal parts terrified and desperate for the next one.

Wow just wow. Waited a while for this book and it is so so worth it. This book follows Blake, a woman from Australia whose passion is fixing and repairing things, and River, mysterious crow until now.

The book starts on a super crappy note with Blake being horribly dumped by her asshole husband as the world ends. River meanwhile is out for vengeance against Cloud who ruined his wings when Cloud lost his shit at Rory’s death. Blake and River stumble across each other later and he’s drawn to her, his crow side seeing all her shininess. I feel bad for Blake because she literally gets dumped, world ends and now she has a mate. River seemed to get that and so was careful not to push her too hard. They meet his family and go through a bunch of trials before we learn more about Cloud and Ash (wow that’s a doozy) and eventually find that Blake transforms into a magpie. I love that touch.

I think this book would resonate with anyone who has ever made themselves smaller for someone else. This is for all the people who have doubted themselves because someone else was shitty. I love that River gave her the space to be herself fully. He sucked in that he couldn’t share his feelings like an emotionally repressed idiot but he got there in the end. Blake meanwhile just gave everyone so much grace and tried to do her best always. What more can you ask for in a person? I also love all the touches about crows and crow behaviour in this book.

Now what is going to happen with Cloud and Ash. Cloud seems to have left everything behind including his vendetta while Ash… Ash may not have been the quiet calm one he’s been though the series. He’s got a mate chained in a tunnel it seems and has a lot of dark places. I’m very curious and can’t wait to meet the woman who will bring him to his knees. AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK AGAIN 😭😭😭

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

“As long as we have two feet and a heartbeat, she’ll be right.”

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review—thank you so much to Lana for sending a copy my way! This is a sequel, and I’ll keep it as spoiler-free as possible..

Obsessed isn’t strong enough word for how I feel. I devoured this 600+ page book in under 24 hours. Couldn’t. Put. It. Down

Set a few years after the pervious book, Guardian River is still reeling. Scarred and grounded after being electrocuted by his best friend, Cloud, River can’t fly & no healer can fix it. He throws himself into Guardian duties, driven by revenge. Alongside Ash, he’s sent to the Great Murder – an annual crow gathering – to find an item that could turn the tide in their war with Nero. It’s also River’s chance to confront Cloud. Things get complicated fast when Blake Hartley crashes into his life—a sparkly, ex-DIY influencer from Australia & his mate. Blake believes in second chances and has a knack for breathing life into broken things. River starts to believe he can be fixed. Old secrets rise, threatening everything River thought he knew about Ash, Cloud & their enemy.

River, Ash & Cloud have been lurking in the series' background & I was dying to get their books. The three were close until Cloud's vendetta. Sprinkled throughout, we get flashbacks of their friendship which I adore. River uses humour to deflect & keep people at a distance. Blake helps him realise just how important it is to be vulnerable with loved ones.

I love getting to learn about the Crow shifters. They horde shiny treasures often stealing them. The crows have a slight mafia vibe, which is so fun.

River & Blake are perfection. I loved every second of their romance. He’s instantly captivated by Blake. Despite his hesitation—he constantly shows how he cares which had me swooning all over the place. He’s hands down one of my favourite heroes. River wants to be worthy before confessing how he feels, while Blake—after a toxic marriage—just needs communication. It’s messy, but the HEA? *chef’s kiss*

THE TWISTS! Cloud & Ash’s secrets? I’m still reeling. I need their books stat!

If you love a fantasy romance that has a post-apocalyptic world with Witcher vibes & fated mates this series is an absolute must.

ARC Review
This was such a fun and spicy read! I adored the Aussie bogan FMC, Blake's sassy attitude and aussie slang had me cracking up! Then there's River 😍 our broody and cheeky crow shifter MMC. Loved getting to know him and seeing his obsession grow and smoulder ❤️‍🔥 Their fated mates bond was intense in all the right ways, and I loved seeing how their communication and connection grew alongside all the steam (and yes, there’s plenty of it!).
The crow community was one of my favourite parts, full of heart and humour, and it made the world feel so alive. Getting to dive back into the Fae Guardians universe was like catching up with old friends, but with a fresh, addictive romance at the centre.
If you like your paranormal romance with spice, banter, and a unique twist, this one’s a total win. Can’t wait for more! 🐦‍⬛🥰

I have read other books from this author (& loved them!) but haven't read any of the previous books in this series. It didn't impact my read of this one, however. It was a great read!

It usually annoys me when authors put a very Aussie character into their stories with all the stereotypes and slang (I am Australian, myself) as it just seems to be overdone - but the FMC did not bother me at all here. I actually kind of loved how Aussie and over the top she was. I thought she was a lot of fun.

Parts of this story were heartbreaking, the characters were intriguing, and there were plenty of drama and twists to keep you entertained. I enjoyed it! And I'll need to go back and read all those previous books now!

Fans of Lana's Fae Guardians series have been waiting for book 10 - the first in the Season of the Crows - for years. While it's been a long time coming, it's been also worth the wait.
We return to Elphyne to hear from the Crows - the most enigmatic, most capricious of the Guardians. We don't know if we can trust them. They've always stuck together, and through the other books we are never quite sure of their motivations. Yet they seem so FUN! If you thought you liked Indi and Shade, brace yourself you're going to love River.

So, Lana has outdone herself. It's a hefty book - nearly 700 pages - but I read it in under a week, because it's that good. So well crafted and consistent in-universe. Often authors lose track of parts of their story universe, especially if it's years between updates. Lana has beautifully crafted a new entry in the Fae Guardians universe. There's timeline jumping, POV changes and lots of new language and characters but it's all seamlessly stitched together into a rich story. The backstory of how Crow families live will be relevant for 2 more stories, this one has to set the backdrop for Ash and Cloud's stories so there has to be a lot of new world building - and it is done so carefully and beautifully that now all I want is more Crow tales!

If you've not read the other books in the series, you should do so before hitting up the Crows. This has lots of assumed knowledge and back story. From language and setting to character development and behaviours. Definitely not a standalone.

I gave this five stars because it is worth the wait, it's rich and there's so much new material to savour, and it's still consistent with the Fae Guardians. I went back to re-read the rest after finishing this one, and can absolutely see Lana's development as an author so it's even more rewarding.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC generously from the author in return for an honest review.

I was so excited for this book to release and I am still so excited for the next ones and the spinoff series! However, this book just didn’t quite hit the same way the other ones have.

The plot was a bit lacking for how long the book was, but I think the character flaws are very relatable for people. My biggest issues with this book were that the conflicts were essentially just silly miscommunication tropes. River and Blake constantly have a miscommunication trope going on, and it gets old pretty fast. And then the big conflict with cloud is also essentially a huge miscommunication trope.

I also am still confused on the conflict between the three Crow Brothers. I feel like cloud is just the worst communicator and most of it is all his fault, yet river and Ash are taking all the guilt and blame.

The last 40% of the book I felt like we were just getting more questions and no answers, until the answers finally came at the last 5%. The large conflict with Blake at the very end also just felt like convenience magic and quite a stretch.

I did really like how Blake’s magic manifested. I wish it could’ve happened sooner in the book and we could have enjoyed it more.

Overall, I love being back in this world and will continue to read the series, but this book wasn’t as strong as the other ones were.

Thank you to the author for the eARC as part of their Patreon. This review is left voluntarily and all thoughts are honest.

Let's start with the characters shall we?

River. My god (positive). I want to lick bite him. I knew he was going to be my favourite just from his appearances in the rest of the series and I was absolutely correct. I love this unhinged, slightly insane, broken crow boy with all my heart.

And then there's Blake. My god (negative). I am Australian and I CANNOT STAND the way she talks. The constant use of 'me' instead of 'my' drives me insane. Yes, I get that is it meant to be bogan (Aussie redneck) type dialogue but my father spoke like that and even then the use of 'me' wasn't. Every. Single. Time. And like it's just that word and some corny slang (I don't remember the last time I heard someone use the word 'drongo' in real life). I think she's down with Laurel as my most disliked FMCs in this series, and not just because of her speech. She spends the whole book lamenting that her ex-husband didn't think she has substance, but she doesn't actually do anything to show substance the whole book. She's basically adventurous in the sack and challenges River when he's being a dickhead but everything else... I just found her a bit lacking. She seems like a side-character to River, Cloud and Ash's story rather than a FMC in her own right.

And now onto the plot... It was good, though I definitely should have done a re-read of the series (or at least Season of the Elf) prior to this book as it's been so long and some of the finer details have slipped my mind! This is a crow-heavy book so if you're hoping for glimpses of the other Guardians, don't hold your breath too much. I absolutely loved seeing the crow culture and River's kettle (family), though at times the pacing felt a little rushed. I would have liked the nesting caravan sequence to go a bit longer because it felt like ticking off a list (like the characters started to do) rather than organic bonding. Don't get me wrong, forced proximity is a great trope but something here just felt missing. Or maybe it's just because I really don't like Blake. 😬

I understand why this book is super long--it felt like Lana was trying to tell 3x stories: the main overarching plot of this series, River & Blake's story and then all the crow stories all at once. Don't get me wrong, this was a great read and I loved it like I love the whole series but there is definitely parts where things feel rushed or not as fleshed out and intricate like Lana is so very good at. I think this book could have been split with a potential novella to cover the crow plot/backstory between to let River & Blake (and the overall plot) really shine. Instead I feel like it was buried in crow-dynamics and really took a back-seat in this book compared to the rest of the series.

The ending softened me a smidge to Blake. I really liked

Anyway I need the next book like yesterday because Ash. Wtf dude?? And Cloud! I need answers!!

4.5 stars rounded down for how many times I cringed when Blake said 'me'.

700 pages later… and my eyes are still functional!

I originally picked this up as a "palette cleanser" since the Fae Guardians series is my ultimate comfort read, but lo and behold, I accidentally signed up for a marathon. This book is a total doorstopper; I’m pretty sure my digital bookshelf groaned under the weight.

Despite the sheer size, I powered through this absolute unit in four days (the same speed I usually tackle a 400-page novel) which just proves that page count is irrelevant when you’re hooked. While there were definitely sections that felt like a bit of a trek, the momentum mostly held its own.

Having binged all nine previous Fae Guardians installments this year (yes, I’m committed), I can confirm this is by far the chonkiest of them all so far. I get the page count, though; as the opener for the Season of the Crow it establishes the high stakes, lore, and pivotal plot points for the coming trilogy, preventing clumsy info-dumps later. However, this necessary world-building did, at times, relegate the central romance between Blake and River to a plot device, easing us into what promises to be a a much larger, more intricate arc.

Breakdown: 3.3 / 5 Stars

The FMC: I appreciate Lana trying something different here, and I admire a bold FMC, but the Blake’s personality was…a choice. It wasn’t the cursing (my private vocabulary is 40% profanity) but the startling lack of a social filter. Dropping the C-word on day one isn't a personality trait; it’s just awkward. There is a natural progression to these things! You start with "girl," graduate to "bitch," and earn the right to use the heavy hitters once you actually know someone. It’s relationship math.

The Banter: River, however, saved the day. His banter with literally everyone was top-tier. My Kindle highlights are essentially a shrine to his flawless comebacks

The Spice: I’ve seen some complaints about it being "too much, too fast," but I disagree. It was handled much better than Nova’s "spicy Latina" internal monologue. My only complaint was just that...Smut. It didn't make me feel anything really.

The Future: I am officially terrified and intrigued by Ash. His arc is clearly being paved for the dark romance girlies, and I am sat.

Overall, a solid, ambitious start to the new trilogy. Bring on the rest of the Crow Boys!

Favorite Quotes:

"One moment, he was debating his dick’s divine resurrection. The next, he was yanking a horn and slamming his prey to the ground."
- lol

“I’m married.”
“Married...Do I look like someone who lets anything get in the way of taking what I want?”

“You’d better back the fuck up with that attitude. Your bad mood belongs to you and no one else.”

"The bastard downstairs works just fine!”
“You call your cock the bastard?” Talo’s frown deepened as he stared at River. “That’s not healthy, son.”
“Kill me now.”

“Apparently, Blake’s previous mate was a two-pump-and-dump sort of lover. You see? You have nothing to worry about. Anyone coming after that will look good.”
“Your faith in me is … astounding.”

“One minute, you look like you want to kiss me. Next, you’re attempting to leap out of a moving vehicle. I’m insulted.”

“It would be my honor,” she whispered, “to be the canvas for your mistakes."

“Fly or die, fuck face!”

REVIEW:
The Company of Vengeful Crows is the tenth book in Lana Pecherczyk's Fae Guardians series and the first book in the Season of the Crow trilogy. The novel jumps five years after the events of the previous book and everything has changed for the Guardians, their Well-Blessed mates and the rest of the Fae world. River has been dealing with the trauma of his best friend Cloud accidentally electrocuting his wings leaving him scarred, flightless and furious. Then something unexpected happens when Blake Hartley turns up in his life to change everything for everyone. It was an emotional moment when Blake was dumped by her husband of over 15 years during the moment before the end of their world as she thought they were in love but he had never loved her. When River meets Blake for the first time in the market was very funny as she had just come of the freeze to find herself in a whole new world and has River come to her rescue but she ends up running from him.

River and Blake both have trauma from their respective pasts that they will both have to work through together in order to start to heal so that they could truly enjoy their mating bond. The both go through many trials together that test the newly forming bond they were starting to build. The moments that happened between River, Cloud and Ash 200 years int eh past were very revealing to the relationship that the three of them constructed together. The moment that River felt that he had lost Blake forever he almost gave up on life but thankfully Ada and his friends were able to figure out that she was still alive with the help of Cloud giving her heart several electrical shocks to revive her enough to transform. Lana Pecherczyk delivered a roller coaster of a fated mates grumpy sunshine romantasy that I loved from start to finish. It was fun reading more about the friendship between River, Cloud and Ash before they became Guardians and I can't wait to find out if Ash or Cloud will be next to find their Well-Blessed mates.

Possessive fury flooded his veins. The thought of anyone else touching her, hurting her, made his claws itch to emerge. He'd eviscerate anyone who dared. When it came to protecting their treasures, crows were vicious. When it came to protecting their mates, they were fucking unhinged.

5+ stars

This book was absolute, utter, brilliant perfection. Every single word, every single sentence, paragraph, and chapter, was so beautifully written by Lana and worked to pull me so effortlessly back into this world that I love so much.

Lana has been edging us with the mysterious crow boys since book 1, and to finally have River's book (and our first thorough glimpse into their triad) was so unbelievably satisfying. As much as this story shone with the romance between River and Blake (who I freaking LOVED), TCOVC was also a story about brotherhood and what happens when the trust between brothers was obliterated. River thought he wanted justice for Cloud's betrayal above all else, but the moment he saw his rainbow mouse, his crow boy brain was distracted and entranced by her sparkle.

Blake was an absolute doll; I loved her grit, her sparkle, her fearlessness, her vulnerability, her optimism. She was such a brilliant match for River, and their first meeting literally had me grinning like a loon and kicking my feet like an obsessed fangirl. And then there's River. He was such a broken yet eternally charming crow boy, and I honestly loved him from the very beginning. He heart was broken, his soul exhausted, but he wore his easy smile and joking nature like an armor against the world with his vengeance wielded as a weapon. Only his rainbow mouse and her penchant for seeing hidden worth in broken things could mend his ravaged soul, and I ADORED every scene of their shaky yet indomitable romance.

There were so many unexpected twists and truth bombs that were dropped in this story that I still haven't wrapped my brain around. I laughed and swooned with River and Blake. I cried and raged with Cloud. I smiled through tears with Aeron. And I gasped in dumbfounded disbelief with Ash. But of course Cloud had to steal my attention once more in the end, and I just don't even know what to think anymore. Lana, thank you for this seriously epic book and for raking my heart across burning coals. Also, River is officially mine, along with Indigo🖤

Tropes: fated mates, grumpy/sunshine, charming hero obsessed with revenge, misplaced heroine looking for acceptance, forced proximity, touch her and die, hate-to-love-you, he falls first but denies it, crow shifter politics, dystopian fantasy world, found family, slow burn, STEAMY🔥

Every once in a while, a book grabs you by the heart, drags you through every possible emotion, and leaves you both wrecked and grateful. For me this year, that book was A Company of Vengeful Crows. It is the tenth installment in Lana Pecherczyk’s Fae Guardians series, a series that masterfully blends sci-fi, shifters, fae mythology, and dark romance.

This story follows Blake, a sparkling Aussie social media influencer whose passion is upcycling treasures and making the ordinary extraordinary. After being dumped at the end of the world, she wakes up in a fae realm where her love of plastics, sparkles, and tech is strictly forbidden. There she collides with River, a brooding crow shifter and guardian shattered by betrayal at the hands of his closest friend.

From their very first interaction, their connection is undeniable. The mate marks appear instantly, binding them together in ways neither expected. Blake is shiny, hopeful, and a natural fixer. River is a hoarder of shiny things, but internally broken. She has lost her family, while his is vast and fiercely loyal. Their contrasts make them the perfect complement to one another, and their banter is just delicious.

One of the highlights of this book is the way Lana opens up the crow world for readers. We get our first real glimpse into the Crow murder, their kettle, and their culture. It is gritty, colorful, lawless, yet layered with loyalty and heart. Through River, Cloud, and Ash’s backstory, we see the weight of betrayal and trauma and why these characters are so scarred.

The last eight chapters were absolute chaos for my emotions. I cried, laughed, sobbed, and nearly hurled my Kindle across the room. Lana has a way of writing characters so richly layered, so beautifully flawed, that they imprint themselves onto you. River and Blake’s journey is messy, tender, steamy, and unforgettable.

This is not just another installment in a long running series. It is one of Lana’s best works to date. The romance is electric, the banter sharp, the world building immersive, and the emotional stakes sky high. It is a reminder of why Lana Pecherczyk has become one of my favorite authors. She does not just tell stories, she makes you feel them.

If you love broken heroes, fierce and sparkly heroines, rich world building, and a romance that will tear you apart before stitching you back together, A Company of Vengeful Crows needs to be at the top of your TBR.

I am overwhelmed—this book was a lot! We knew those crows were going to be intense, but wow… I definitely didn’t expect this much! 😅
I’ve been following this series from almost the beginning, and being part of the ARC team has been such a privilege. Every time I dive into the world of the Fae Guardians, I’m reminded how wild and wonderful it is—especially with all their fear and resistance around finding a mate. That trope never gets old, and it’s always hilarious watching it play out.

The book is different from the others, as we have the Love story but also the Bro story...I am not 100% sure how I felt about the Crow background story as I felt cheated with Blake & River story...Like one couldn't have happened without the other...Very conflicted here, jury is still out.

Now, let’s talk about Blake and River. Their story felt really sad to me. You can sense the personal depth the author poured into this book—especially knowing she’s been through a tough time herself. It shows throughout the book, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. However, there's a lingering sense of longing and sorrow.
Both MC struggle to let go of their pasts, and that weight is always present. Blake can't help but remember or compare River to her ex, while River is constantly refocusing on his mission to find Cloud. It made their precious moments together feel bittersweet—beautiful but always shadowed by what came before, and this until the very end!!!

One thing I wasn’t sure about: River’s playboy past was rubbed in our faces a little more than I felt necessary. I get it, but I wasn’t sure how much it added to the emotional development.
That said… the spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Whew. This book delivered.

Then—while I understand the importance of Cloud and Rory’s backstory, it felt like it took up a big chunk of the book (but it's a big baby....700+). I couldn’t help but feel a little shortchanged when it came to Blake and River’s development. Their story sometimes felt pushed to the background.
Still, this was a powerful, emotional, and steamy addition to the series. I’m always amazed by how Lana Pecherczyk continues to grow this world—and break our hearts a little in the process.

Finally: WTF Ash????
