How I wish this book had been around when I was younger! Rocket Writers is a must-read for storytellers under 18, but Kristen Gwen’s practical, engaging guide works equally well for adults.
I especially liked the “Deep Space Tips” and “Black Hole Warnings” to help you avoid common pitfalls. There’s even a master checklist to keep track of your progress.
The examples (from Moana, Zootopia, Tarzan, Matilda, Finding Nemo, and more) make complex storytelling ideas instantly relatable. I also loved the encouragement to draw maps, brainstorm, and play with story worlds. The sections on endings, character growth, and the “lie vs. truth” at the heart of every story are especially valuable.
Most of all, I love the encouragement. Kristen cheers you on, reminding you that writing is hard, yes, but also rewarding. Her book will launch you into storytelling with confidence, clarity, and joy. Highly recommended!

Love this fun and informative writing book to share with children! In particular, I love the specific black hole warnings and deep space tips throughout the book. The author makes learning this information fun! I also appreciated how the author adds book examples throughout to help explain various parts of the writing process such character goals. I want a stuff armadillo writing companion now! Highly recommend this helpful writing guide for young storytellers!
