This is one of those manga series I've seen around for a while now, always thinking about maybe picking it up but never actually doing it. But now the first volume was on NetGalley and I finally took the chance. It was a perfectly fine start to a series, but also just nothing special and I don't think that I was really missing out. It's about Geo, a young girl who wants to leave her island and seek adventure but is not allowed to. But one day she meets a strange boy with no memory and soon after there are dramatic reveals about her past, and then she is able to leave her home after all. It doesn't sound too breathtaking when I write it out like that, and that's because it just really isn't. There are people with dragon tails and special powers that were somewhat cool, and the information about Geo's past was also interesting, but the story still didn't hook me. It was all a bit random and so far the characters really only been to one town where they help a random boy and get into (very) random fights. The art also wasn't my favorite, so I really have nothing that makes me want to continue here. At points I thought that this kinda reads like One Piece, which is of course a positive thing to say, but don't ever quote me on that. I didn't read enough of that endless series to actually know what I'm talking about.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for providing a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.
What a spirited, fun, exciting, and intriguing time! The main plot sank its teeth into me early on, the action is thrilling, the humor is glorious, and the art is delightfully expressive.
The overall vibe of anything-can-happen, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed adventure reminds me a lot of Dragon Ball, as does the whimsy. But mix it with the more propulsive pacing of something like FMA.
I didn’t go into this with any expectations really, and considering the more youthful tone, I didn’t expect to be hooked into awaiting a second volume, yet here I am, now hungry for volume 2 lol. Also? This would make for a super fun anime, I think!
Galaxia es un manga prometedor que toma la chispa aventurera de One Piece con algo de inspiración en los poderes de tokyo ghoul. Aunque recién está comenzando, logra tener su propio estilo y te invita a sumergirte en una aventura llena de acción y misterio.
I thank Netgalley and the publisher for granting me an e-ARC of this manga.
Don't let my rating mislead you, because a 3 star review is a great rating, at least for me. It just means I needed a little bit more.
Let me explain myself.
This manga is funny and fantastical and the plot sounds promising. And it was. However, as everytime it happens to me whenever I pick up a manga volume, I needed a little more of everything. It intrinsically goes against the usual lenght for mangas.
That being said I will keep up with the series because the world building is very interesting and I want to know more about the characters journey. I really hope Geo cultivates her self-defense skills because that girl could unstoppable if she wants to.
Also, Nereid is very intriguing and I want to know what is his deal and why he wants to find Holst.
It’s a pretty cute and simple shounen manga although it’s pretty much the same as any other generic shounen manga out there. Geo and Nereid are OTT and annoying af so that’s why I skimmed through the whole thing. It is completely forgettable but it’s ok to waste time on if you like your shounen….
Growing up in a backwater village does not suit Geo at all. She wants to go out and have adventures just like her hero Yuri Holst, unfortunately her father is firmly against it. One day, after another failed attempt at leaving the village, Geo fishes a young man out of the ocean! Everything about him is weird, he doesn't seem to even know how to be human correctly, but he soon explains to Geo that he doesn't. He woke up with no memories of his own and is traveling the world to figure out to be human again. Geo wishes she could go with him but she knows she'd upset her dad so after feeding the young man she has named Nereid she heads back home. On her way back however, she finds her father bleeding and under attack by a Dragon Knight who reveals that there is far more Geo than her father ever told her and she can't possibly stay still any longer!
I've got high hopes for this series after reading volume 1! Both characters know absolutely nothing about their pasts and are now on a high stakes adventure to find the one man who may be able to shed some light on who they really are. This first volume takes us to a town where we meet a young boy who desperately wants to bring change to his town while knowing that change may cost the people he cares about their livelihoods. Geo and Nereid find a solution that not only works for everyone but also gives everyone hope for the future. I loved that so much and I hope this theme continues throughout the story.
My favorite part has to be the Dragon Folk though, from what I saw here they appear to be nothing like any dragon race I have come across before. Their tails seem to be where their power is centered, and they can fuse them with other body parts to increase their power. They also seem to rule over the world but in a very loose manner. There is a Dragon Led government, but it appears that government relies on groups formed very haphazardly through battles to enforce laws. However, as there is no government oversight here it seems like Dragon Folk take advantage of this to enforce their own rules. I am really looking forward to seeing how that side of things progresses as there is definitely an implication that the Dragon Folk aren't necessarily the good guys.
I recommend this one for sure. It has a Fairy Tail like quality to it that I think will appeal to fans of that show in particular.
As always thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for the eArc!
I have received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, thank you!
Do you like One Piece? Do you wish you could read something that carries a similar spirit of adventure but isn't going to take you half a year to read? Look no further, because GALAXIAS is exactly what you want. It has a lot of elements reminiscent of beloved shounen series while being unique enough to stand on its own and not get boring.
Since we follow two protagonists who don't really know that much about the world, we can learn about it alongside them, which makes the worldbuilding really digestible. I'm very curious to learn more about the dragonfolk (the tail designs are so cool btw) and the way their society works. Both the world and the characters are positively unhinged and quirky but there are also wholesome moments.
The art in Galaxias is distinct and I really liked it. The action scenes are easy to follow and very dynamic.
I'm very curious to see where the story will go and meet some more characters. It's one I will follow for sure.
In Galaxias an intrepid girl living on a small, isolated island meets an amnesiac boy traveling the world; a perfect match made for friendship and adventures. This immediately gets complicated by making themselves enemies of the state. Looking together for a renowned adventurer and criminal, the two of them embark on a journey in a land where humans live together with dragon-tailed people with strange abilities.
This is a quick, fun and wholesome read and the art is consistently solid and allows the characters to have colourful expressions and engaging action frames. The magic system, simple on paper, offers a lot of creative interpretations (For example, a kangaroo-themed dragon-character cannot just store their young but also abstract concepts like strength.) The world and main characters are interesting enough, but the first volume does not distinguish itself from other shōnen titles much yet. Hoping the next volumes can find more of an identity.
3.5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and publishers for an ARC for an honest review.
I want to start by thanking NetGalley, Ao Hatesaka and Kodansha Comics for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review. GALAXIAS 1 will be out February 24, 2026!
What a fun story and such a strong cliff hanger. Hatesaka has written the story with such care and the inspirations are clear: One Piece, Gachiakuta and Hunter x Hunter. If you enjoy the adventure and initial premise of the Pirate King from OP, the art style of G and the search for the MC’s adventurer father like HxH, I think this might be the perfect manga for you.
Because this is only the first volume it’s hard to see what will distinguish it much from these previously mentioned beloved stories but it’s so refreshing to have a strong female lead in a story like this. It’s got a very fun, lighthearted and modern feel to it so eager to see where this might go. Overall, solid start but keen to see how it can set itself apart from the rest.
Uuuh, sehr cool!
GALAXIAS 1 by Ao Hatesaka is an adventure/mystery manga about a young girl who was raised on an island all her life, never allowed to leave until the day a strange newcomer arrives, and a secret about her past is revealed, which causes them to have to band together and go on the run to figure out the answers. I enjoyed this first volume; there are interesting characters and a perplexing world that has barely been explained, leaving the reader more and more curious about everything. There are great fights in here also, if you enjoy that dynamic, but it might turn out a bit episodic going forward as they travel to more cities, meet new characters, learn things about the world and their mission, fight different bad guys, etc. Fans of One Piece might enjoy this, but time will tell.
The manga is about a girl who is supposedly unable to leave an island, who then meets a boy, which at this point then reveals things that then lead to the fact apparently she can leave the island. To put it simply, and it really is that...simple.
It's a cute read. Was easy to read, shorter than usual, the characters are a bit annoying and there are very random fights. The art style is a little odd to me, but I have a weird perception thing sometimes where I can't watch animation or read manga with certain styles.
I do plan to continue it, as I am curious where it could go. The magical powers are cool, the dragon tails are neat, and I want to see if it gets better.
I can totally see the One Piece x Fairy Tail vibes— The comedy is very reminiscent of both shows. It seems like a fun manga so far!!
Very interested in the Dragon Knights. The tail aspect is kinda cool too. I can’t wait to see what other different abilities are out there.
Our MMC who can’t remember his name gives off very Luffy/Natsu energy and the FMC is very Nami coded in a way that she wants to explore the world. Overall, I think it’s a pretty fun vol 1. Nothing too plot heavy right now, def more on the lighter side for right now.
Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy of this manga for an honest review.
This is a really fun read, I love the character Geo she is adorable with a sassy attitude, she wants to become an adventurer & told by her father no until events happen that leads her on the jounrey she always wanted.
the friendship we see being formed between her and a fellow dragon folk us sweet but also entertaining, they bounce off each other in the book in every situation they get it.
highly suggest the read and will be continuing with this story as other volumes come out.
The artstyle grabbed my attention first, it's crisp and legible and the characters are varied to be easily distinguished from each other, even during action scenes. I went in mostly blind for the plot, and it's an interesting set-up! A world where the secrets have already been uncovered thanks to a famous explorer (as a note, the book says this and then contradicts itself by saying no-one knows the origin of the dragonfolk?) and one girl on an island who yearns to explore all the same.
It's a good opening volume, slightly episodic which makes sense given the exploration/search needed, and I enjoyed the dynamic between the characters.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
starting a new series!!! what else is new. love this world already. jio and neraid??? memory loss? lost father? cool power system? yeah i think this is going to be a fun series with a lot of twists and turns. and i love a girl who gets to explore the world for the first time. LETS. GO.
Have you ever started to read a manga and immediately have the thought that this is gonna be one of the big ones? That was the sensation I ended up with while reading the first volume of Galaxias.
In this shonen manga we are transported to Laniakea Kingdom and meet Geo, a country girl that wants to get out of her little island and explore the world. The thing is, in this world humans live alongside dragonfolk, people with strange tails and varied types of powers. And Geo’s life is about to change when she fishes a dragonfolk out of the sea.
The art style is perfect for this story, a bit quirky but totally up to the fast and dynamic fight scenes. The characters are interesting and full of spunk, the action is on point and the world and lore is gonna make you keep reading more and more.
Even though I do not like the comparisons, I do believe that if you like One Piece or Soul Eater you will enjoy this one greatly! The vibes are very similar.
By the end of this first volume I was already looking if the second volume was available.
I want to thank Kodansha Comics for giving me access to the book through Netgalley in trade for my honest opinion.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy!
Galaxias is an exciting new manga series about Geo, who is eager to leave the little island she's lived on all her life, and Nereid, a wide-eyed aspiring adventurer with no memories at all. The most interesting thing about this story, which sets it apart from other shonen-type manga with this type of storyline, is the dragonfolk. Some people, in this kingdom alone, are born with tails and amazing powers. These people are called "dragonfolk", and though no dragons have been mentioned yet, I am curious to learn more about them! The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger, and I'm really excited to see where the next volume is headed! Will continue this series if I can!
Galaxias was such a fun adventure of a read! I really enjoyed the characters! My favorites of course have to be the main two Geo and Nereid, I’m curious to see how their dynamic goes within the next manga volumes. I really enjoyed the both of them, Geo is such a nice main character, I loved the whole curious adventurer thing she has going on but I was just very pleased with her character in general. Nereid also caught my attention, I’m very invested in the whole forgotten memory plot line and I’m eager to learn more about what had happened to him and where he comes from. I also enjoyed Nereid’s curiousness about the world, it was entertaining to see him have to relearn what certain things are. Together they make an interesting and entertaining friendship, it was fun to see them adventure and discover new things together.
I loved learning and seeing the world of Galaxias, the whole dragon folk and dragon knights were intriguing elements to learn about. The battle/action scenes in here brought a nice bit of tension and it was fun to see the different characters use their different talents. I absolutely loved the art style and character designs, the dragon tails and Geo’s character design are some of my favorites. I’m so excited to read more from this series in the future especially since this manga volume hints at making allies/friends. I’m very intrigued to see what characters are going to join this little adventure group! Thank you to the publisher for my complimentary review copy.
This is the start of an adventure maga series. It's about a girl who wants to explore the world and she meets a mysterious amnesic boy. They team up and start adventuring, visiting different places. It reminded me of One piece for the adventure aspect.
The magic comes into place as these dragon like tails that only some people have. Their origins are mysterious too so they will play an important part in the future.
The action is a bit murky sometimes because of the tails but otherwise the artsyle is very clean with bold strokes.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
GALAXIAS, Vol. 1 introduces a fantasy world where there are beings called dragon folk are born with powers. At the center of the story is Geo, a young girl who dreams of escaping the island she was born on so she can see the wider world and someday write a book about her adventures. Her curiosity and ambition put her at odds with her father, who is strongly against her leaving, creating an early emotional tension between safety and freedom.
Geo’s journey truly begins when she saves a mysterious boy she names Nereid, who has lost his memories and is traveling in hopes of recovering his past. Their meeting feels fated, and the two quickly become travel companions, bound together by uncertainty and the need to keep moving forward. As they journey, they encounter new friends and powerful enemies, many of whom possess abilities.
Personally, the overall art style and other character designs outside of the main characters, plus pacing, made it a bit tough for me to get into the story, especially towards the middle, until the end. There's no hints of romance, which is fine, as both the characters act more like siblings so far.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
GALAXIAS embarks on a classic shonen manga adventure that feels both familiar and exciting. The story introduces us to a vibrant world populated by humans, dragon knights and “dragonfolk”, with beautiful visuals and lots of action scenes.
The narrative primarily focuses on two main characters, Geo and Nereid, as they embark on their journey to find a legendary explorer; both seeking for their own separate reasons. The characters are relatable, and have distinctive personalities that play off each other well.
Visually, the artwork captures the essence of the shonen genre, with dynamic action sequences and intricate designs that bring the world and its inhabitants to life. The presence of dragonfolk and dragon knights adds an intriguing layer, and the plot progresses quickly without dragging on.
While GALAXIAS may follow typical shonen tropes, it does so with charm and a sense of adventure. If you like fantasy and adventure shonen manga, you will likely enjoy this. Overall, it's a solid start to the series! I will definitely be looking for the second volume on release!
Galaxias is an interesting adventure with an intriguing mystery at its core - it reminds me of Hiro Mashima. The story is set in the Laniakea Kingdom, where humans live alongside dragonfolk. Geo is an adventurous girl, who's bored of the island she lives on and wants to see the world, but her dad doesn't want that. Geo ends up meeting a weird guy, Nereid - he's dragonfolk. It seems nothing is what it seems and Geo alongside Nereid end up fleeing in order to find Yuri Holst, the greatest adventurer. The history is very awesome here and full of mysteries. This first book is a great one because we only get glimpses of information and it's well constructed. Perhaps I wanted to know more about the island and the characters though, since we are off to the adventure very early on.
The art looks good and wonky even, well, sharp shaped perhaps. There's humor, but it feels slightly cliched though. Nereid being an idiot at times feels cheap, but at least Geo is a great character. The whole dragonfolk idea is great and I really enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere. I hope revealing them is very slow so that we get to enjoy them for a long time!
This was such a fun read and packed way more into its first volume than I expected. A lot of manga series take their time with setup, but this one jumps right into the action. It’s fast-paced, full of lore, and has a whimsical tone that pulled me in right away.
The story follows Geo and Nereid as they search for someone, each carrying their own mystery. One dreams of escaping their small town and seeing the world. The other can't remember anything about their past. Add in dragon folk and dragon knights and suddenly there’s this fascinating layer of fantasy that I can already tell is going to get deeper with time. I’m super curious to see how that lore unfolds in future volumes.
The art style is absolutely beautiful, expressive and detailed, but I will say that a few panels were hard to follow at times. Still, nothing too disorienting, and it was easy enough to piece things together.
I didn’t go into this with any expectations, and I came out impressed. I would love to see this adapted into an anime because the visuals and worldbuilding would translate really well on screen.
Galaxias is an adventure fantasy manga that follows Geo, a girl who wants nothing more than to leave her small village and go have an adventure! The fist volume follows her as she meets Nereid, who has lost all his memories, and the beginnings of their own adventure to find a man named Yuri Holst.
This first volume has everything I want in the beginning of the manga. We get to meet the main characters Geo and Nereid and learn what is going to drive them in the series. There is an introduction to the dragon folk, those with dragon tails and special powers. There are battle scenes and quiet moments for the characters to talk. Nereid feels like he's trending in the OP MC trope, which I personally enjoy. At this time there is no real fan service which may appeal to many readers.
The artwork is really nice. The characters are instantly recognizable, the battles are well done, and the page or two-page spreads are breathtaking.
This first volume gives plenty to get a reader invested and looks like it will be a fun fantasy adventure for younger audiences in the vein of One Piece or Fairy Tail. Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for allowing me to read this eARC.
I don’t read a lot of manga. Galaxias is only my second one after Spy x Family so I can’t say too much from an experienced perspective. I really love dragons, and when I saw in the description that the book is about “powerful beings with strange tails known as dragonfolk,” I was immediately sold.
The world-building was genuinely interesting, and the art was really good too. I’m not a fan of gore in graphic novels or manga, so Galaxias was very much my thing. It has action without being gross about it, which I deeply appreciate.
The story is easy to follow. Geo is a girl who desperately wants to escape her very quiet countryside life and explore the world (preferably while not being chased by the government). Along the way, she meets Nereid, who claims to have lost all his memories, and together they go in search of the world’s most intrepid explorer, Yuri Holst.
If you like action and adventure with cute moments sprinkled in, a lot of friendship, and characters constantly getting into trouble, then just read it.
Kingdom of Lakeia is the only place in the world where dragonfolk are found. They're strong and with magic, and so rule the place. Geo, a young woman, has lived her whole life in a small island in Lakeia. She yearns for adventures, but her father, also dragonfolk, doesn't want her to leave. One day, she learns why when a dragon knight comes to arrest her for a crime she hasn't done, killing the dragon king.
To keep her safe, her father sends her away. With her comes a strange young man who has lost his memory, so she calls him Nereid. But instead of going as far as they can, they get stuck in the first town, solving problems there.
This was exciting with a lot of action, but it doesn't really go anywhere yet. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, but I don't need to read more. Geo was a strong charcater and Nereid all over the place with his excitement about every little thing, as he can't remember anything, but they make a good team. Art was good.
I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
