If readers accept the author's challenge, they will pray more deeply, effectively, and regularly than they ever have before. Through powerful daily "dares" or challenges, Ron Kincaid, pastor of Sunset Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon, guides readers not just to think or talk or read about prayer . . . but to actually pray. Individuals and small groups will gain confidence in their prayer lives, strengthen their understanding of prayer's purpose, and learn how to apply key scriptural principles of prayer to their everyday lives. The Prayer Dare is a practical, no-nonsense handbook that demonstrates concepts with relatable illustrations and then invites readers to engage in simple exercises to make the "dare" a personal reality. Journaling space is also provided to record practice and progress. Dares include "Don't Be Afraid to Ask," "Pray Like You Mean It," "Take God Seriously," and "Be Transparent." Each dare builds on the last, and as readers take the challenges one-by-one, they will begin to do something pray.
Although praying is common knowledge, I believe it does not come easy for many. The Author teaches steps to incorporate to achieve the goal of making prayer time a wonderful experience. Communicating with God brings joy, peace, and blessings. I appreciated the Author's honesty regarding his own struggles and mistakes. I gave this book the rating of 5 stars based on the easy reading format. The Author was not preaching as some Christian Authors tend to do or use guilt. I liked his teaching style and highly recommend this book to those who desire more awareness of the value of prayer.
One of the best teaching tools to bring someone back to prayer, and pray in the way God wants us to talk to him. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and 40-day journey.
This is a thought-provoking journey into the complicated nuances of prayer. Written as a 40-day study filled with guides (or dares) to make your prayer more meaningful. This is one to read in a paper version so that you can highlight, dog-ear pages, and write in blanks. The most important suggestion? In his day and time, it has to be “pray for our leaders whether or not you agree with their policies.” Prayer is a powerful tool, and this guide can only serve to strengthen our prayers. Be aware that there are many typographical errors to overlook, but it will be worth it.
This has made me use my prayer journal book. Also praising God and spending time praying to God. The thing I liked was the dare and writing my dares down. I have a date with God everyday and it does bring a smile when my prayer is answered and looking back on the dares is seeing the goodness of God. I also love the real life examples as that helps with my faith in God that if He can do it for me he can do it for others, sharing the testimonies with others helps.
Do yourself a favor and read this book. It’s really good it will really awaken prayer and you. For me personally I started a prayer journal because of this book and I think it’s a wonderful idea to write down your prayer requests and see God work through it; either he answers it says wait or whether it’s no, it’s pretty cool. Read it do yourself a favor.
This is the book I read while exercising. This book is so practical. I have read a number of book on prayer. This is the first book that just dealt with practical solution on how to pray.
Get ready to experience a new level of friendship with God as you are challenged to revamp your prayer life. This is a 40 day challenge to experience prayer in an all new way. Ron Kincaid does an excellent job laying out 40 individual prayer challenges that are geared to get the reader into a regimen of prayer. Each challenge opens with a key scripture then is followed by a devotional and lastly has the challenge and questions to help you start on the challenge. If you liked the love dare you'll love this. If you enjoy a good challenge and marked goals to reach you will enjoy this. Be prepared to take you prayer life to a new and exciting level as you explore your relationship with God and experience his love in a whole new way.
He uses real life situations to help put it into logic for better understanding along with the scriptures. Easy to read and easy to understand and easy to implement. The questions at the end of each chapter makes you truly review the blessings received and to be grateful, how to ask for our needs and not make them self centered but rather making it pleasing to God and His glory.
A good guide to jump-staring or restarting a life of prayer. Broken into short devotionals for 40 days of reflection as well as activities to help you develop your prayer life with the intention of laying the foundation for the rest of your life in relating to God in the gift of prayer. Good read!
I learned very valuable lessons in this book about how to ask for prayers. And to be open to hearing th voice of God when he asks us to do something that HE wants us to do. It was very interesting also to always to not forget that we ask for thinks that are pleasing to him for all the glory and praise.
This is a beautiful journey with God through prayer. If you're struggling in your prayer life this is an excellent book to help you grow in prayer and draw closer to God.
It took me a while to get going with the book as the daily prayer lessons were things I already knew and for some reason that made it difficult for me to really engage. However I'm glad I didn't give up. I did learn some things and got reminded of others.
I liked his approach for helping someone grow in prayer. I recommend the book. Be prepared to work as you go through the book. His goal is application of each challenge.
