False Prey

Rate this book
Reporter Danny Roberts has a front row seat to the end of the world. In the self-quarantined town of Brikston, Kentucky, no one is allowed in and if you leave, you can’t come back—no exceptions. Danny watches the town descend into chaos as people face the threat of the weaponized flu. It’s especially dangerous for stranded motorist Thomas Sang, who’s just trying to get home. Unfortunately for him, the rest of the town is already convinced he’s a North Korean spy trying to bring the weaponized flu to Brikston. They’ll do anything to protect their community… But what if the enemy is already inside? False Prey, a 195 page NOVELLA, takes place between the events depicted in Apache Dawn and The Shift.

We have a brief interlude between books one and two. Danny Roberts, Ace reporter for CNN, is sent out to one of the quarantined cities to investigate rumors of a Super Flu sweeping the nation. Danny encounters a poor soul running from an infuriated crowd who believes the man named Thomas is a Korean spy. After talking with Thomas Danny helps him escape to an out-of-the-way motel where he can hide out. Danny heads back to town to follow-up on his leads. We’ll tag along with Danny as he writes his remarkable story. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A brief view into life in a small town that chose self isolation to avoid the flu, how its population is affected by the events going on around them. Reporter Danny encounters a fear driven mob worked into a frenzy by an influential town inhabitant and the local police as they lead the mob to deliver judgement on an outsider, an alledged spy, Thomas. Another fantastic read in the Wildfire series read by James Romick.

This novella was a microcosm of events that could have been happening in other small towns across the United States during the time described in the "Wildfire Saga" series. I enjoyed this short story and I recommend it to others who enjoyed this series. James Romick's narration was great as he delivered this tale in the style one would expect from a news reporter. I requested this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed and I have voluntarily left this review.

This one is as good as the first one was. It's an offshoot of the situation going on in the first in the series with a different set of characters in a different dilemma. Yes, I bought the next one. This guy can write his ass off.

False Prey: A Wildfire Novella

This book makes me go back the COMMUNIST CONSPIRACY STORIES FROM THE FIFTYS. A trained newspaper reporter looking for a comeback story to regain his editor status follows reports of a flu pandemic to a small town where he is met with bigotted hatred and unimaginable fear..from everyone. Is this a pandemic or is it a hoax? Either one it looks like it's going to take lives and he is right in the way. A GREAT MYSTERY AND A THRILLER. I RECOMMEND

Wow !

U’ll never see it coming! You may think you know how this story goes, but you don't. Just imagine trying to do the right thing, and finding out after it's too late that you were dead wrong.

False Prey: A Wildfire Novella

An interesting story covering bio warfare. The end it's pretty unpredictable, and not all of the mystery is solved by the end off the book.
Minor editing errors such as duplication of words.
